Freda Sprecher
October 4, 1913 - April 24, 2013

Funeral services for Freda Sprecher, age 99, of New Leipzig, ND, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND.
Pastor John Amundson will officiate and burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran cemetery north of New Leipzig, ND.
Freda Baesler was born on October 4, 1913, on the family homestead north of New Leipzig, ND, to Daniel and Wilhelemina (Bierwagon) Baesler.
She was one of eighteen children.
Freda grew up on the family farm and attended a local country school.
Following her schooling, she began working on the farm and also worked for the Carl Schaffer family as a nanny.
Two of Freda's sisters were married
, and through them she was introduced to Reinhold Sprecher.
Freda and Reinhold were united in marriage on August 18, 1934, at the Trinity Lutheran Church north of New Leipzig.
To this union, two sons were born; Lloyd and Marley. Freda took the role of farmwife with ease, and enjoyed milking cows and raising chickens, along with raising a big garden and flowerbed.
She was a wonderful baker, and said that she never bought bread at the store.
She also enjoyed cooking, and could make an excellent meal from leftovers she had.
Reinhold passed away in 1971 and in 1972 Freda moved into New Leipzig.
She entered Dakota Hills on October 25, 2005 and later moved to the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in 2008.
Freda loved making afghans for her family; knitted many pairs of slippers for her grandchildren; and in her earlier years on the farm, made homemade cottage cheese.
Freda passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin, ND.
She is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Deloris) Sprecher, New Leipzig, ND, and Marley (Julie) Sprecher, Elgin, ND; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Wilhelemina (Hank) Sandau, Stockton, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reinhold; her parents, Daniel and Wilhelemina Baesler; one grandson, John Sprecher; one great-grandson, Jeremy Linghor; and 16 brothers and sisters, August, Otto, Rudolph, Gustave, Pauline, Emma, Melinda, Arthur, Emil, Reinhold, Adolph, Lydia, Ella, Daniel, Clara and Ervin.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday morning.
A memorial has been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig.
Giles McDowall
May 24, 1952 - April 21, 2013

Giles Eugene (Gene) McDowall III, 60, Carson ND, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013, surrounded by his family.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm MT at the Grant County Fair building in Carson with Pastor Ken Trana officiating.
Burial will be at the Carson Community cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Brock Hager, Tom Bonogofsky, Ira Bentz, Jason Bentz, Brent Golke, and Mark Peterson.
All friends and relatives are considered Honorary Bearers.
Gene was born May 24, 1952 in Elgin, the son of Gene and Ina "Peggy" (Allen) McDowall II.
As a child, he lived on the family farm near Carson and graduated from Carson High School in 1970 and went on to attend college in Wahpeton.
Gene married
Marlys Guttromson in 1976.
They continued to run the family farm with Gene's father.
Farming and ranching were Gene's passion.
He was a talented mechanic, and had a love for all animals and enjoyed caring for them, especially his dogs Dozer and Casey.
Gene valued his family and showed it every day. He was a good neighbor and a kind and gentle man; loved by many and respected by all.
Gene really loved his grandchildren and they loved him in return with the special relationship they shared.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marlys, his father, Gene Sr., Carson, ND; 3 daughters, Sarah McDowall, Bismarck, ND; Rhonda (Francis) Bauer, Mandan, ND; and Stephanie (Brock) Hager, Bismarck ND; 3 grandchildren, Braelyn, Cassie, and Alli; sisters, Sandra Peterson, Yankton, SD; Marge (Ira) Bentz, Carson, ND; Faye (Les) Hinzman, Bellevue ID; Peggy Ann (Mark) Golke, Mandan, ND; Tami McDowall, GA; Kerri (Barry) Mann, Tok, AK; and brother-in-law, Dave Froemming, Mandan, ND; and one brother, Tom (Lisa) McDowall Laurel, MT; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother Peggy, an infant son, Eric; sister, Sharon Froemming and brother-in-law, Ted Peterson.
Private family visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Larry J. Roemmich
December 7, 1937 - April 28, 2013
Mott, North Dakota
Larry Roemmich, age 75 of Mott, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Dickinson.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 1, at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm CT on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the North Dakota Veterans cemetery south of Mandan with full military honors afforded by the Mandan VFW.
Pastor John Amundson will officiate.
Larry Jake Roemmich was born December 7, 1937 in Mott, ND to Jacob Jr. and Louise Marie (Kamrath) Roemmich.
He graduated from Mott Lincoln High School in 1955 and attended Concordia College and Dickinson State Teachers College.
Larry served in the United States Air Force from October 18, 1960 to October 16, 1964.
Following his discharge, he returned to Mott and worked on area farms and ranches.
He then took over the family farm with his parents until his health forced him to retire.
Larry moved into Mott in 2004. Since 2008, he has resided at St. Benedict's Care Center in Dickinson.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott.
Surviving family members include his 2 brothers and 1 sister; Archie (Betty) Roemmich, Paulsboro, NJ; Arlyce (Jim) Muck, Rainier, OR; Dale (Sandra) Roemmich, Pipestone, MN; 3 nieces, 6 nephews, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Martha M. Heupel
June 2, 1921 - April 22, 2013
New Leipzig, North Dakota
Martha Heupel, age 91, passed away April 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Mott, ND.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am MDT on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Hope Congregational Church in Elgin.
Pastor Bill Bradley will officiate with burial in the Hope Congregational cemetery.
Special music will be provided by Viola Sprenger, Donna Wiens, Krista Erickson, David Heupel, Julie Halloff, and Kristen Heupel.
Serving as casketbearers are David Heupel, Kristen Heupel, Julie Halloff, Paul Halloff, Jon Woodruff, Jennifer Woodruff, Krista Erickson, and Michael Erickson.
All friends and relatives are considered Honorary Bearers.
Martha Magdalena Kirsch was born June 2, 1921 to Jacob and Lydia (Siewert) Kirsch at Willa, ND.
Martha attended Walker School District until the 8th grade, then stayed at home and helped her Mom do housework.
She also helped her Grandpa Siewert with the harvest and she helped her Dad with haying and harvesting.
She worked for a family in Mott, ND doing housework for about a year and a half. She was paid $14.00 a month.
Martha married
Arthur Heupel on March 21, 1943.
The wedding was originally scheduled for March 18, 1943; however, there was a three day blizzard that delayed everything.
Art and Martha farmed and raised their family 4 miles south of New Leipzig.
Martha helped Arthur on the farm and as a farm wife, Martha was an expert at many things, including shocking oats and driving the header box, milking cows, driving tractors, and raising chickens.
She always had a big garden and lots of flowers.
In 1980, Arthur and Martha retired and moved into Elgin.
After they moved to Elgin she made a lot of quilts.
She made one for each of her children and grandchildren.
She also loved to do cross stitch and was very active in the Ladies Group at Hope Congregational Church and faithfully attended Sunday school and Church.
Arthur passed away on June 21, 2000.
Martha continued to live in her home in Elgin until September 3, 2010 when she entered Dakota Hills.
On March 3, 2011, Martha moved to the Good Samaritan Society at Mott, ND.
Surviving family members include 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Elmer and Diane Heupel, rural New Leipzig, ND; Donald and Janet Heupel, Algona, IA; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Luella and Charles Ohr, Glendale, AZ; Delores and Mike Woodruff, Tucson, AZ; 6 grandchildren, David and Kristen Heupel, Jefferson IA; Julie and Paul Halloff, Chaska, MN; Chris and Danne Ohr, Glendale, AZ; Jon Woodruff, Des Moines, IA; Jenni Woodruff, Fargo, ND; Krista and Michael Erickson, Bismarck, ND; 5 great-granddaughters, Emily, Aubrey, Katrina, and Natalie Heupel, Jefferson, IA; Kiana Halloff-Jones, Bloomington, MN, and one great-grandson, James Erickson, Bismarck, ND; 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Elmer Kirsch, Bismarck, ND; Arnold Kirsch, Mott, ND; Norman and Judy Kirsch, Wyandotte, MI, and Alberta Kirsch, Dickinson, ND; 3 sisters, Hilda Haberstroh, Mott, ND; Leona Stern, New Leipzig, ND, and Sara Tompkins, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and a sister-in-law Elsie Blumhardt, Elgin, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lydia Kirsch; her husband, Arthur; 4 sisters, Erna Zimmerle, Olinda Kirsch, Lydia Heupel, Alvina Bertsch, and one brother, Herman Kirsch.
Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2013 from 1:00 – 7:00 pm, followed by a family service at 7:00 pm all at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND.
A memorial has been established.
Merilee Brattvet
May 9, 1964 - May 4, 2013
Mandan, North Dakota
Merilee Brattvet, age 48, of Mandan, ND and formerly of Hettinger, ND, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Sanford Health Continuing Care Center off Collins in Mandan, ND.
She is survived by her two brothers, Randy Brattvet, San Tan Valley, ND and Blair (Sharon) Brattvet, Grand Forks, ND; four nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to School of Promise, 204 7th Ave SW, Bowman ND 58623.
Myron Auen
May 11, 1928 - January 6, 2014
Mott, North Dakota
MYRON G. AUEN, age 85 of Mott, passed away at the Mott Good Samaritan Society on Monday, January 6, 2014.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent's Catholic Church on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 10:00 am with Fr. Charles Zins presiding.
Burial will follow at Sunnyslope cemetery, Mott.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 1:00 – 7:00 pm at St. Vincent's with a Rosary and Wake Service at 7:00 pm.
There will also be visitation one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.
MYRON GEORGE AUEN was born on May 11, 1928 to George and Viola (Larsheid) Auen in Mott, ND.
He was united in marriage to Marcella Kouba on November 19, 1952 at St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
The young couple did area farm work in Mott where three children were born to this union, Cheryl, George, and Rod.
After moving to Regent to work for Wally's Shop as a mechanic, son Tim joined the family.
Myron was also employed as a custodian at the Regent School for a few years, a job he enjoyed as he had a great rapport with the students.
The family eventually returned to Mott where Myron opened his own mechanic shop where he worked until his retirement.
He had a love for gardening and dancing to old time music.
Myron's other hobbies included tinkering with old tractors, truck and engines.
He also enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee with his friends at the Pheasant Café.
Myron was always excited to see his family, especially his young grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 61 years, Marcy; his daughter, Cheryl (Doug) Olson; sons, George (Cindi) Auen, Rod Auen, and Tim (Elaine) Auen; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Zentner, Ryan (Desiree) Olson, Dave (Kristi) Olson, Eric (Tiffany) Olson, Jocey (Nate) Jahner, Kayla (Killian) Norton, Casey Auen, Cari Auen, Brady Auen, Megan Auen; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tyler, Tanner, and Jenessa Zentner; Jayda, Mercedes, Jaxton and Aften Olson; Taylin and Teagan Jahner; brothers Clint (Jean), Luke, Leland, Rich (Helen) Auen; sister, Jennifer Bonness; sister-in-law Catherine Kouba and several nieces and nephews..
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, George and Viloa (Larsheid) Auen; brother Gary; sisters, Rosemary Miller and Angie Deavy; an infant brother Dennis; brothers-in-law Stanley, Hubert, Dennis and Lawrence Kouba, Donald Miller, Jr. Deavy; and sisters-in-law Anna Lou Auen, Helen Leidal, Betty Kouba and Harriet Lampl.
A memorial has been established to the Good Samaritan Society of Mott.
