Funeral services for Lyle Witt, age 62, of Hettinger, ND, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lemmon, SD.

Rev. John Irwin and Chaplain David Peterson will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill cemetery in Lemmon, SD.

Special music will be provided by Marilyn Willey, pianist.

Serving as casketbearers are Mike Johnson, Keith Wolff, John Jahner, Dennis Guenther, Jerry Ostle, Chad Chadwick, Kenny Chadwick, Jody Witt and Josh Stang.

All of Lyle's friends and family are considered honorary casketbearers.

Lyle Duane Witt was born on January 7, 1951 in Elgin, ND, to Robert and Leola (Crow) Witt.

Lyle grew up on the Witt Farm southeast of Lodgepole, SD, with his five brothers and one sister, Jim Witt, Joyce (Witt) Bauman, Dan Witt, Tom Witt, Mike Witt and Jerry Witt.

Lyle attended grade school at the Carr School and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1969.

Following his graduation, Lyle attended college in Denver, CO, for a short period of time, then moving to Mississippi to do custom harvesting.

While in Mississippi, he met and married Ann (McCool-Witt) Munro. Lyle and Ann were blessed with five children, Robert Aaron Witt (deceased), Johnny Duane Witt, Jason Lyle Witt, Jody Ann Witt and Jeffrey Robert Witt.

Lyle worked at farming and ranching in the later 1970's, moving his family to Lemmon, SD, in 1976, purchasing the Harold Crow Family home and working for the City of Lemmon.

In 1981 Lyle joined the oil field business moving to Watford City, ND.

From there, Lyle managed an oil business in the states of Colorado, Utah and Texas.

In 1991 Lyle and his family moved to Hettinger, ND, after retiring from the oil business.

Lyle was employed and lived in Hettinger until owning and operating his trucking business in 2005, which took him cross country.

Wanting to be closer to his children and grandchildren, Lyle sold his truck in 2011 and was employed with CC Flooring and Backyard Mechanics until his passing on May 1, 2013.

Lyle passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

He is survived by his mother, Leola Witt, Hettinger, ND; three sons, Johnny Witt, Jason Witt and Jeff (Valerie) Witt, all of Hettinger, ND; one daughter, Jody Witt, Williston, ND; 16 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; three brothers, Dan Witt, Sioux Falls, SD, Tom (Brenda) Witt, Marion, SD and Jerry (Kristie) Witt, Lemmon, SD; one sister, Joyce (Duane) Bauman, Rock Springs, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by one son, Robert Aaron Witt; his father, Robert Witt; two brothers, Jim and Mike Witt; and two nieces, Angela and Amy Witt.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a family service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.

A memorial has been established.

Alvin Heupel
May 28, 1937 - December 14, 2013
Hettinger, North Dakota

Funeral Services for Alvin Heupel, 76, of Hettinger, ND will be Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hettinger.

Rev. Richard Wyman and Rev. Paul Lindt will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger cemetery.

Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger and one hour prior to the service at the church Friday morning.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Centennial Chapel.

Alvin Robert Heupel was born May 28, 1937 in Bison, SD to Alfred and Nora (Rattei) Heupel.

He was the oldest of 13 children and grew up on the farm southwest of Bison.

Alvin spent a lot of his youth working with his father, where his love for horses started.

They did everything by with horses; planting, haying and feeding with teams.

In his early 20's, Alvin moved to Bowman, ND where he worked for farmers and rancher, worked at the Sale Barn, the State Department and helped built Bowman Haley Dam.

While living in the Bowman area, he met Geraldine Volk.

They were married and to this union, six children were born, Rodney, Loretta, Roger, Ross, Russel and Redgi.

They moved to a place four miles north of the Haynes Junction in September of 1972.

Alvin and Geraldine's marriage ended in divorce.

On his 20 acre place, Alvin raised horses, cows and pigs.

He worked for American Colloid, Hettinger Sale Barn, Gregorian Inc. and Lemmon Livestock for 30 years or more.

For many years he was known as the man who had trained his horses to jump into and out of his pickup box.

During these years he trained and broke horses for other people as well as his own.

Alvin met Arlis and she moved in with him in May of 1984.

They were married on June 4, 1992.

After all the children left, they worked together hauling bales and farrowing pigs.

They were always busy along with their jobs.

Alvin loved to go to dances, rodeos, watch horse shows on TV and ride his horses to keep them in shape.

Horses where a big part of his life and they always made him happy, whether riding or driving his cart for relaxation.

Alvin passed away at the Western Horizons Care Center in Hettinger on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Arlis, of Hettinger; his children, Rodney (Anna), Tacoma, WA, Lorretta (Doug) Pruener, Battle Creek, NE, Roger (Barb), Lemmon, SD, Ross Heupel, Dickinson, ND, Russel (Denise), Box Elder, SD and Redgi (Natalie), Dickinson, ND; two step children, Kirby Klein, Lemmon, SD and Kara (Shannon) Wiesinger, Lemmon, SD; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Casey, Delayna, Kayla, Eric, Cody, Bailey, Eve and Blaze; two step grandchildren, Melinda Klein and Brittney Wiesinger and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by four brothers, Alfred (Judy) Heupel, Culbertson, MT, Leonard (Janice) Heupel, Hettinger, ND, Lester (Cleta) Heupel, Wichita Falls, TX and Ron Heupel, Sioux Falls, SD; five sisters, Alice (Delbert) Hurst, Minneola, KS, Linda Baesler, Grants, NM, Margie Kvanvig, Rapid City, SD, Diane (Terry) Brown, San Rafael, NM and Debra Heupel, San Antonio, TX; three brothers-in-law, Craig Perfett, Gillette, WY, Duane Perfett, Gladstone, ND and David Perfett, Deadwood, SD; three sisters-in-law, Barb (Dean) Schlangen, Cresco, IA, Cindy (Shawn) Silkman, Clark, SD and Becky (Bill) Holt, Ralph, SD.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Nora Heupel, an infant brother, brothers, Ray (Cordevee) Heupel and Norman Heupel, a sister, Lorraine Pace, his mother-in-law, Joyce Perfett, a step-son, Wade Klein and an infant grandson, Shane.

Bruce E. Verhulst
June 16, 1965 - May 23, 2013
Reeder, North Dakota

Bruce E. Verhulst, age 47 of Reeder, passed away on Thursday, May, 23, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.

The Funeral Service for Bruce will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Reeder.

Pastor Stephanie Swanson will officiate and following a time of fellowship and a luncheon, burial will be in the Ralph Lutheran cemetery.

A Family and Friends Service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00pm at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.

Special music will be provided by Carolyn Erickson, Elizabeth Verhulst, and Angie Oase.

Serving as casketbearers are Richard Sarsland, Gene Robinson, Jeff Jung, Kim Hodell, Tony Dillon, and Bob Sousa.

All family and friends are considered Honorary Bearers.

A Memorial has been established.

BRUCE EDWARD VERHULST was born June 16, 1965 in Bowman, ND, the youngest of five children born to Ralph E. and Beatrice V. (Pederson) Verhulst.

He was baptized and confirmed at Ralph Lutheran Church.

He attended grade school at Ralph and attended two years of high school in Scranton and then graduated from Bowman High School in 1984.

During his high school years he played football.

Bruce then began working for Jim Bingaman near Prairie City on his farm and ranching operation.

Bruce was united in marriage to Laura Lee.

They lived in Lemmon where he worked for NoDak Farm Supply and later on began working for Wheeler Manufacturing.

On July 26, 1997, Bruce was united in marriage to Linda Finchem.

They continued to live in Lemmon where they were employed with Wheeler Manufacturing.

In 2005, they moved to the Verhult ranch at Ralph when Bruce took a job working for GMHR cleaning and repairing railroad cars in Scranton.

Bruce and Linda moved to Reeder where they have continued to live since.

He began working at the Scranton Equity/ Pronto Parts operating the tire repair truck.

Bruce suddenly became ill in April 2013 and was diagnosed with lung cancer on April 30, 2013.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding bike with his dog Cheyenne, and remodeling a 1943 international tractor given to him by his dad.

He loved playing cards and gambling, especially playing pull tabs, and loved going to the casinos.

Bruce was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Reeder Volunteer Fire Department, Reeder Park Board, and volunteered for numerous activities and events in the area.

Keeping him in their fondest memories are his wife, Linda, Reeder, ND; step-daughter, Shaya Finchem, Stanberry, MO; Step-granddaughters, Nikole and Allison, and step-grandson, Austin; his mother, Beatrice Verhulst, Reeder, ND; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Barbara Verhulst, Ralph, SD; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Diane Sanford, Reeder, ND; Pam and Greg Oase, Bismarck, ND; Nancy and Scott Doe, Beulah, ND; brother-in-law, Neal Johnson and his family, Tia and Tyler, Bismarck, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Verhulst, his grandparents, Anders and Olive Pederson and Edward and Lila Verhulst and brother-in-law, Lane Johnson; and his dear pet cats, Fred and Barney.

Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and on Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church in Reeder.

Bruce Wayne Olson
July 10, 1945 - April 13, 2012
Minot, North Dakota

Funeral services for Bruce W. Olson, 66, of Minot, ND and Hettinger ND will be Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hettinger Lutheran Church.

Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will be at the Richland cemetery, north of Hettinger.

Bruce Olson passed away suddenly on April 13, 2012 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Centennial Chapel (formerly the Congregational Church) in Hettinger.

Bruce was born July 10th, 1945, the son of Myrtle (Underland) and Clifford Olson.

'Bruce graduated from Steel High School in 1964 and spent time in San Francisco working for a telephone company before he lived in Texas working in the oil field.'

He spent most of his time on the family farm north of Hettinger, ND farming and ranching.

Bruce enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. 'He also was a collector of antiques and guns. '

Bruce loved spending time with his friends and family, playing poker and riding motorcycles. He had a passion for horses, especially his Mustang, Captain.'

Bruce is survived by his son Justin, daughter-in-law, Amanda, 2 grandchildren, Sawyer & Taylor. 'He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis G. Eckmann
July 8, 1942 - June 1, 2013
Hettinger, North Dakota

Dennis Eckmann, age 70, of Hettinger, ND, longtime North Dakota State Highway Patrol Trooper, passed away on Saturday evening, June 1, 2013 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

The Funeral Service for Dennis will be held at 11:00am Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Hettinger Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Dettmann, officiating.

A Rosary Service for family and friends will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday evening at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger with Fr. Stephen Folorunso.

Serving as casketbearers are John Muth, Kent Brackel, Jerel Seamands, Bob Kudrna, Mike Bliss, and Delwayne Olson.

All former and current Law Enforcement Officers and the North Dakota Highway Patrol are considered Honorary Bearers.

A memorial has been established to the Dakota Buttes Museum in Hettinger.

DENNIS GEORGE ECKMANN was born July 8, 1942 in Beulah, ND to Fredrick and Helen (Singer) Eckmann.

He grew up on a farm near Mercer and attended school in Mercer and Turtle Lake, graduating from Turtle Lake High School in 1960.

He attended Bismarck Junior College for one year and then in 1962, Dennis began working for North Dakota State Radio Communications in Bismarck.

In 1965, he began working for the North Dakota Highway Patrol and was stationed in Cavalier.

He was transferred to Hettinger in 1967 where he retired from the Highway Patrol in 1994.

Following his retirement, he worked as an insurance adjustor and did tree moving.

He was always looking for antiques with his grandkids.

He was an avid toy tractor collector and attended numerous toy shows, and loved watching NASCAR races, and having coffee twice daily with his coffee buddies.

Surviving family members include his wife, Bernadette, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Mary Eckmann, Helena, MT; Dean and Michele Eckmann, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, A.J., Joshua, Luke, Jacob, Thomas, and Callie; and sister-in-law, Janice Eckmann; a nephew, Kevin and a niece, Renee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arlo Eckmann.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 to 7:00pm at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and on Thursday one hour prior to services at the Hettinger Lutheran Church.
