George Seekins
George D. Seekins, 75, Jamestown, N.D. died Sunday, May 20, 2001 at the Jamestown Hospital - Jamestown, N.D.
George D. was born July 30, 1925 in Wimbledon, N.D., the son of William A. and Alice (Renwick) Seekins. He grew up and attended Jamestown Public School graduating from Jamestown High School in 1943.
George married Melba Jensen on December 29, 1945 in Long Beach, California. They made their home in Jamestown, N.D., where he owned and operated Seekins Booterie downtown for 45 years, starting in 1946.
George has held many leadership posts in Jamestown. He was president of the Roosevelt Elementary school Parent-Teacher Association, and was president of the adult board for the former Teen Canteen. He served on the board of trustees, was president of the men's club and president of the administrative board at the First United Methodist Church. He has been president of the Jamestown Clowns and the Jamestown Shrine Club.
He has also been on the board of directors and been president of the board at the YMCA in Jamestown. For four years, he was the YMCA's outstanding fund-raiser.
He was past president of the Jamestown Country Club and the Jamestown Dance Club. He served on the Jamestown Airport Authority for eight years, and was involved in planning of work on the terminal building.
George was on the board of adjustments, was president of the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce and served eight years on the chamber board. He has also served the Central Dakota Village nursing home, the Heritage Centre and Jamestown College. He has been on the board at the nursing home for over 25 years, and has been board chairman. He has been on the board at the Heritage Centre, which is connected to the nursing home and provides 29 supported living apartments for seniors, since it started in 1990. He has been on the board of trustee at Jamestown College since 1980 and served as president of the foundation board.
George received the 2000 Outstanding Citizen Award from the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melba Seekins, of Jamestown, N.D.; three daughters, Lesley (Michael) Nystrom, of Shoreview, MN; Marcia (Phillip) Ringstrom, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Judy (Jack) Arnold, of Ashburn, VA; five grandchildren, Sara Nystrom, Paul Ringstrom, Anne Ringstrom, Amy Arnold and Ryan Arnold; one brother, Richard (Jean) Seekins, of Jamestown, N.D.; two sisters, Joanne (Ronald) Joslin, of Tucson, AZ; and Joyce (Walt) Johnson, of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother (William A. Seekins).
Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. - Thursday, May 24, 2001, at First United Methodist Church - Jamestown, N.D. with the Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, N.D.
Memorial to: Jamestown Hospital and Hospice, Jamestown College, First United Methodist Church Jamestown and Central Dakota Village.

Arick Seil
Arick Michael Seil, 19, Sykeston, N.D., died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at his home following a struggle with cancer.
Mr. Seil was born Feb. 10, 1982, at Carrington, N.D., the son of Norman and Julie (Neumiller) Seil. He grew up and attended school in Pettibone, N.D., Cavalier, N.D., for a time and later at Carrington, where he graduated in 2000. He had planned a career as a metrologist. He enjoyed working, music, football, basketball and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his parents, Sykeston; two sisters, Maggie Seil and Carly Seil, both at home; and grandparents, Paul and Edna Neumiller and Victor Seil, all Sykeston.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Seil.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, May 28, Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington, with the Revs. Richard Biberdorf and Larry S. Harvala. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Sykeston Cemetery, Sykeston.

Art Wentz
Art Wentz, 87, Wishek, N.D., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Wishek Nursing Home, Wishek.
Mr. Wentz was born Aug. 26, 1913, at the family farm home Southwest of Streeter, N.D., the son of William and Margaret (Trautman) Wentz. He grew up and attended the local rural school in Streeter, receiving his elementary education. He married Alice Rau Oct. 20, 1936, at Napoleon, N.D. They lived 14 miles Southwest of Streeter, where they farmed until retiring in 1968. They moved to Bismarck, where he worked for Kirschenmann Manufacturing. He later worked at the North Dakota State Penitentiary as a prison guard and as a taxi cab driver for a short time. In 1994 they entered the Gackle (N.D.) Care Center. She died March 31, 1997. He continued to reside in Gackle, until the fall of 2000, when he entered the Wishek Nursing Home. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bismarck.
He is survived by a sister, Elta (Milton Iszler) Schauer, Gackle; and two brothers, Ervin (Alma), Philomath, Ore., and Reuben (Helen), Napoleon, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, May 28, United Methodist Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Grant Piehl officiating. Arrangements byHaut Funeral Home, Gackle.
Burial: Streeter Cemetery, Streeter.

Emil Schauer
Emil Schauer, 89, Streeter, N.D., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Wishek (N.D.) Retirement Home.
Mr. Schauer was born April 6, 1912, at Streeter, the son of John and Fredricka (Enzminger) Schauer. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the area, where he helped on the family farm. He married Martha Kuch on Feb. 7, 1935, at Jamestown. They lived at Salt Lake, N.D., working for Dr. Stokes, later living on other farms in the area. They then moved to a farm 5 1/2 miles northwest of Streeter before moving into Streeter in 1986. She died Sept. 28, 1988. He entered the Wishek Retirement Home in 1995. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter, and the church, school and township boards.
He is survived by a daughter, Erma (Lawrence) Dockter, Fargo, N.D.; two sons, Dennis and Stanley, both Streeter; a brother, Harry, Stockton, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Karen, in 1996; a grandchild; six brothers and three sisters.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Streeter, with the Rev. Grant Piehl officiating. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.
Burial: Streeter City Cemetery, Streeter.

Anna Carlson
Anna Carlson, 45, rural New Rockford, N.D., died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her farm home.
Anna Wishinsky was born May 22, 1956, at Otsu, Japan, the daughter of Stephan Jr. and Helen (Allmaras) Wishinsky. As an Army "brat," she traveled to France and Germany, and areas in the United States. She graduated from New Rockford Central High School in 1974 and attended Jamestown College, graduating magna cum laude in 1978 with a degree in nursing. She then took part in a two-year nursing internship program in South Carolina. She moved to Iowa City for a year, then returned to New Rockford. She worked at City Hospital, New Rockford, in a variety of positions. She later became certified in gerontological nursing. She married Johnny A. Carlson on Dec. 23, 1988, at New Rockford. They lived on a farm near New Rockford. She began working at Carrington (N.D.) Health Center. She lived with breast cancer from August 1995 until her death. She enjoyed hiking, horses, gardening, bird watching, reading, pack trips/camping, traveling, the arts, music and her Dalmatian, Lucky.
She is survived by her husband; her mother, New Rockford; two brothers, Paul, Gardner, N.D., and Anthony, West Fargo, N.D.; two sisters, Barbara Wishinsky, Memphis, Tenn., and Caroline (Dave) Hopkins, Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her father; her father-in-law, Freddy Carlson; and her grandparents, William and Katherine Allmaras, Stephan Wishinsky Sr. and Louis and Pauline Knecht.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford, with the Revs. Alfred Allmaras and Jerome Hunkler officiating. Arrangements by Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

Samuel Meske
Samuel Fritz Meske, 43, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, following a house fire.
Mr. Meske was born April 26, 1958, in Ellendale, N.D., the son of Fred C. and Agnes L. (Podenski) Meske.
He grew up and attended school in Edgeley, N.D. After high school, he attended North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton.
He married Lori Pokrzywinski in December 1982. They later divorced.
At the time of his death, he lived with his long-time companion, Carla Kruse.
She died Saturday, July 28, 2001. He enjoyed restoring old cars, collecting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, David, Hillsboro, N.D.; and three sisters, Linda (Larry) Childs, West Fargo, N.D., Diane (Jack) Davis, Chandler, Ariz., and Lorette (John Guy) Meske, Lakewood, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, Boulger Funeral Home Chapel, Fargo, with the Rev. Phil Ackerman officiating.

Kathleen Herman
Kathleen L. Herman, 64, Kulm, N.D., died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
Kathleen Louise Pfahl was born March 4, 1937, at Ashley, N.D., the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Spitzer) Pfahl.
She grew up and attended school in Ashley, graduating from Ashley High School and Ellendale NI.
She taught school in Gwinner, Wilton, Napoleon and Bowdon, N.D.
She married James F. Herman on March 19, 1961, at Ashley.
The couple farmed east of Kulm until 1965 when they purchased a farm south of Kulm, where they produced small grains, beef and dairy.
They moved into Kulm in 1999. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Kulm, where she produced the weekly bulletins and newsletter and taught Sunday school.
She was active in other civic and service organizations, including the Whitestone Historical Society, Northwest Friends Club, North Dakota Union League, Farmers Union and the District 28 Democratic-NPL.
She is survived by her husband; her mother, Kulm; two sons, Matthew J. (Darla) and Steven J. (Yvonne), both Kulm; a daughter, Joyce (Steve) Glass, Valley City, N.D.; a brother, John Allen (Leah), Papillion, Neb.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, First Congregational Church, Kulm, with the Rev. Bill Bradley officiating.
Arrangements by Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm.
Burial: New Beresina Cemetery, rural Kulm.
