Edna Forsberg

Edna Forsberg, 84, New Hope, MN, formerly Fargo, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at the Northridge Care Center, New Hope, MN.

Edna Kalman, daughter of Alexander and Ena (Waterman) Kalman, was born December 11, 1916 at Winnipeg, MB, CA. Her family moved to Minneapolis, MN, when Edna was young and she grew up and was educated there. She was united in marriage with E. L. "Frosty" Forsberg on April 6, 1935 at Minneapolis, MN. They moved to Fargo in 1942. Her husband died on August 6, 1998. She moved to the Northridge Care Center in New Hope, MN on December 14, 1998.

Survivors: One Son: Dick of Fargo and Three Daughters: Carol Ulness (Don) of Omaha, NE, Beverly Musegades (Wallace) of Scottsdale, AZ and Marilyn Esson (Stan) of Plymouth, MN. Eight Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Visitation: 10 to 11 AM, Wednesday at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo.

Funeral: 11 AM, Wednesday, June 27th at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Carl Ganje

Carl L. Ganje, 69, Fargo, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Carl L. Ganje, son of Henry and Ludvina (Heilman) Ganje, was born May 1, 1931 at Wellsburg, ND. He grew up and was educated at Harvey, ND. He served in the National Guard, US Army and the US Air Force, before returning to Harvey. He moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1961. He was united in marriage with Berget Hegland on November 6, 1963 at Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Fargo. He worked a variety of jobs in the FM area, before working as a custodian at the Forum newspaper. He then worked as a custodian at Fargo South High School, retiring four years ago after twenty-one years of service.

He is survived by:

His Wife: Berget Ganje; Daughter: Janetta Guida (Kevin) of Moorhead, MN; Two Grandchildren: Bryant and Kayla Guida of Moorhead, MN; Brother: Leonard Ganje (Mavis) of Fargo; Five Sisters: Leona Feickert (Wesley) of Martin, ND, Marcella Martin (Morris) of Richardton, ND, Marie Feldman of Bismarck, ND, Monica Barnette of Tennessee, Angeline Yellick (John) of Minnesota.

Visitation: Tuesday, April 24, 2001, 5 to 8 PM at Hanson-Runsvold and for one hour before services.

Funeral: Wednesday, April 25, 2001, 2 PM at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo.

David Goble

David H. Goble, 68, of Fargo, ND died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo.

David was born September 27, 1932 in Wadena, MN to Vernon and Eva (Squire) Goble. He spent his childhood in Wadena and graduated from Waubun High School. David served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Donna McCann on April 10, 1954, in Detroit Lakes, MN. Together they moved to Fargo. David worked for Berg Fargo Motor Supply, First Presbyterian Church, and Thom Linen before retiring in 1997.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Dennis Dean, one brother, and one sister.

He is survived by: his wife Donna, one son, David (Robin) Goble, of Fargo, ND; 3 daughters, Davonna Neal, of Fargo, ND, Delaine (Tom) Goble-Clelland, of Zeeland, MI, Danette (Ted) Otten, of West Olive, MI, 5 brothers; Stanley (Rita), of Ogema, MN, Chester (Rose), of Georgetown, MN, Robert (Judy), of Watoma, WI, Gene (Marie), of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Nathaniel Goble, of Wadena, MN; one sister, Violet Moench, of Sebeka, MN; 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 4, 2001 at 2 PM at Golden Ridge Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Visitation: One hour before funeral service in the church.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.

Blenda Melaas
November 19, 1905 - July 26, 2001

Blenda Joyce Melaas, 95, 1240 North Broadway, Fargo, died Thursday in Rosewood on Broadway.

Blenda was born November 19, 1905, in Mayville, ND, the daughter and only child of Nels Melaas and Amanda (Ask) Melaas. She spent her early years in Mayville and later moved to Fargo. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1924 and the Agricultural College in Fargo in 1928. Blenda was a lifelong member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

After college, Blenda went to work for Northwest Bell Telephone Company. She retired after 40 years with the rank of Senior Clerk. She was a lifelong member of Telephone Pioneers and Communication Workers of America.

In her youth Blenda enjoyed archery and target shooting, earning medals in both. She volunteered for many years at Bonanzaville and also with the Quilters Guild and Altar Guild of First Lutheran Church. She had a passion for playing cards and spent much of her retirement at the Trollwood Senior Center playing with friends.

Blenda is survived by an aunt, Nellie (Oscar) Ask, Minneapolis, MN; three cousins, Vera (J. Willard) Knapp, Moorhead, MN, and Alice (Ray) Setterholm, Lakeville, MN, and Wilbur (Helen) Lindgren, Hallock, MN.

Visitation: Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Alice Meyer

Alice Meyer, 74, of West Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, April 24th, 2001 at Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Alice Mae Madsen was born May 18th, 1926 to Carl and Ethel Madsen. She grew up and attended school in Hunter, ND. On December 30th, 1944, she married Melvin Meyer. They lived in Fargo, ND, and later moved to West Fargo, ND, in 1959.

Alice is survived by her husband; three sons, Gary (Marlene), Fargo, Bruce (Judy), Conyers, GA, and Curt, West Fargo; one daughter, Judy (Lowell) Christenson, O’Fallon, IL; three brothers, Lee and Carl, both of Fargo, ND, and Lyle, San Diego, CA; one sister, Joyce Higgs, Colorado Springs, CO; six Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

FUNERAL: Monday, April 30th, 2001, 2:00pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Fargo

VISITATION: Sunday, April 29th, 2001, 5:00-8:00pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home

BURIAL: Sunset Memorial Gardens, at a later date

Beverly Nelson

Beverly Nelson, 72, of Fargo, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Beverly was born to Gustav and Helen (Wheeler) Malstrom, April 26, 1929. Beverly Mae Malstrom grew up and attended school near Harwood, North Dakota. She later moved to West Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School on 1946. She was baptized at Elim Lutheran Church and has an active member ever since. On October 27, 1949 she was wed to Melford Nelson at Elim Lutheran Church. Until she had children she was employed at General Motors, Inc., Retail Credit and International Harvester Co. Her love and dedication to her children and grandchildren and her self directed sense of humor will stay with all who knew her forever.

She is survived by her husband, 3 children, Gail (Robert) Farnam of Ft. Collins, CO, Greg (Gerry) Nelson of West Fargo, ND, Linda Aamold of Fargo, 2 brothers, Arvin (Bernice) Malstrom of Payetteville, ID, Donald (Vicki) Malstrom of Palm Springs, CA, 1 sister, Juneve (John) Reamer of Kaizer, OR, and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral Services: 2 PM, Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Elim Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Visitation: 5-7 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

Prayer Service: 7 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Arthur Olerud
August 15, 1926 - September 8, 2001

Arthur B. Olerud was born on August 15, 1926 in Mayville, North Dakota and educated in Mayville and Kelso Schools, Art graduated from Argusville High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy on the USS Hyman, DD732, naval destroyer during WW II. While stationed in Portland, Maine, he met his loving wife, Mary O’Neil and they were married on February 10, 1947. He was honorably discharged in August 6, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. Art worked for Gamble Robinson and Northern Pacific Roundhouse until 1952. Art started his construction career in 1952 as an Asbestos Worker. He worked for many firms before he retired in 1988. He served as Business Agent for Asbestos Workers Local #133 from 1962 until his retirement. Art had tremendous dedication to the Asbestos Workers Local #133. In his more than 25 years as Business Agent, he spent many hours on the phone taking care of Local # 133 business.

Mary became ill in the mid 90’s and passed away in the spring of 1996 and later that year he lost his mother. During this time of his life, he was recovering from major surgery, removal of cancerous lung. He never complained and always remained positive and upbeat. After Art lost his loving wife, he enjoyed traveling to California, Maine, Washington, and to Norway visiting family and friends. Art had a strong connection to all of his relatives in Norway. He visited the Hagen and Olerud farms and enjoyed the time he spent with his Norwegian family and all of his friends. He was a respected and revered elder of the Oleruds.

Art made annual trips to Portland, Maine, to visit his wife’s family. He loved the annual lobster fest with the O’Neil family.

Through the years, Art made many friends and his life was enriched by these friendships. His fellowship and love of life and filled everyone’s heart with laughter and joy.

Art was an active member of the VFW, the American Legion, Sons of Norway, Eagles, and the Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Air Patrol of El Zagal Shrine. He was also a member of the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church.

His seven loving children survive him: Arthur J. (Nancy) of Moorhead, MN, Patricia Wentz (Al) of Alexandria. MN, Dianne Lynne of Bainbridge Island, WA, Andrea Broughton (Mark) of Fresno, CA, Deborah of Bainbridge Island, WA, Andrew I. (Marcia) of Alexandria, MN, and Michael of Chino, CA. He is also survived by his two brothers, Ira (Betty) of St. Paul, MN and Andrew (Carol) of Argusville, ND, and two sisters, Anne Nelson (William) of Tacoma, WA, and Bertha Stangeland (Gordon) of Moorhead, MN. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Arthur J., Jr, of Atlanta, GA, Christopher and fiancé, Sheri Sonnenberg of Fargo, ND, Michelle Wentz of Oshkosh, WI, Bryan Wentz of St. Cloud, MN, Heidi Lynne of Washington, D.C., Kirsten and Matthew Broughton of Fresno, CA, Corbin of Bainbridge Island, WA, Andrew I., JR, of Detroit Lakes, MN, Leo Paul and Rachel of Alexandria, MN.

His parents, Andrew and Bertha Olerud, his sister, June, and his beautiful wife, Mary, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with a prayer service immediately following on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo. Funeral will be held at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 13, 2001, at 11:00 AM. Internment will take place at Oakwood cemetery in Harwood, ND. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, and Shriners Hospitals, Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, or charity of choice.

Darlene Opdahl
March 26, 1934 - July 16, 2001

Darlene LaVonne Opdahl, age 67, of Fargo, died in her home after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Darlene was born March 26, 1934 near Audubon, MN the daughter of Henry and Viola (Craig) Branden. She grew up in the Audubon area and graduated from Audubon High School in 1952. After graduation she moved to Fargo, ND and then attended Interstate Business College graduating in 1957. On June 27, 1959 she married Robert Eugene Opdahl in Audubon, MN. Darlene worked for Cass County Auditor’s Office until her daughter Deborah was born and stayed at home raising the rest of her family, Steven, Kevin, and Paul. In 1988 she went back to work working for the Doublewood Inn and later working at the Motel 6 until she retired in July of 2000. Darlene loved to read books, especially the Bible and was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; and children, Deborah (Robert) Fralick, Minnetonka, MN, Steven (Edith) Opdahl, Minneapolis, MN, Kevin (Sheila) Opdahl, Fargo, ND, and Paul Opdahl, Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Karen, Jonathan, Timothy, Daniel, and Patrick; three brothers, Arvin (Marlene) Branden, Audubon, MN, Dallas (Betty) Branden, Hawley, MN, and Norman (Barb) Branden, Audubon, MN; two sisters, Donna Nicholson, Highland, CA, and Venoie Hemmelgarn, Audubon, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Darlene in death are her parents, a brother LaVorn Branden, and a sister Clara Davis.

Services for Darlene will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 2 PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. Her visitation will be held Wednesday, July 18 from 4 to 7 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral home with a Prayer Service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Sunset cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Dorothy Lingle

Dorothy R. Lingle, 74, Fargo, died Wednesday, November 28th, 2001 at her home.

Dorothy Ehnstrom was born February 26, 1927 at St. Paul, MN, where she was raised and educated. She worked in the munitions plant in Arden Hills. She was united in marriage with Richard K. Lingle on April 5, 1943 at St. Paul, MN. They made their home at Elk River, MN, where she served as leader of the Boy Scouts. They moved to Fargo in 1956. Dorothy worked as a volunteer with the area Democratic Party for many years. Her husband, Richard, died on June 14, 1978.

Christmas was her favorite time of year. She was "Mrs. Claus" in the Fargo Area Elementary Schools & Nursing Homes. She enjoyed bingo and many trips to Mahnomen. They summered at Turtle Lake for many years. She was a wonderful scrabble player.

Survivors: Two Sons and Two Daughters: Richard (Lorene) of West Fargo, Linda Quandt of Fargo, Kenneth (Marie) of Pennsylvania, and Rhonda (Kyle) Stoutenburg of Copperas Cove, TX. A Sister: Wilma Carry of Inver Grove Heights, MN. Four Grandchildren.

Visitation: One hour before services at Hanson-Runsvold.

Funeral: 2 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo.
