Alvin Kvant

Alvin R. Kvant, 86, 904 2nd Street North, Fargo, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at his home.

Alvin was born February 16, 1915 on a farm near Cayuga, ND. His family moved to Harwood, ND, in 1926 where he grew up and was educated. He worked on his family’s farm at Harwood. He was united in marriage with Mavis Larsen on October 25, 1941 at Fargo. They made their home in Fargo. He served in the US Army during WWII, entering in January of 1941. He served in the European and North Africa Theatres of operation. He was discharged from the Army in October of 1945. He returned to Fargo, where he worked reconditioning cars for local shops, until he began working for Overvold Motor’s when they were located downtown. He worked for Overvold’s reconditioning cars for nineteen years. He then worked as groundskeeper with the Fargo Parks Department until retiring in 1982. His wife, Mavis, died on October 13, 1992.

He is survived by: A Daughter and Son: Linda Buringrud (Jay) of Bismarck, ND and Roger Kvant of Fargo, ND; Four Grandchildren; Two Brothers and One Sister: Edgar Kvant (Bessie) of Cape Coral, FL, Alfred Kvant (Margaret) of Fargo, ND, Irene Vernie of Detroit, MI

He was preceded in death by: His Parents, Wife, Son: Ronald on December 11, 1983 and a Brother: Clarence.

Visitation: One Hour Before Services.

Funeral: 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo, ND.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Carla Kruse

Carla Mae Kruse, age 39, of 337 20th St. N., Fargo, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN.

Ms. Kruse was born September 11, 1961 in Fargo, ND. Carla grew up on a farm near Barney, ND and graduated from Richland #44 in 1979. She attended college the University of Minnesota Morris, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and North Dakota State University.

Carla is survived by her mother, Cora Kruse, Fargo, ND; three sisters, Bonnie (Sanjib) Mukherji, Santa Barbara, CA, Linda Jacklitch (David Kapaun). Perham, MN, Barbara Comford (Timothy Pacholke), West Fargo, ND; and one brother, Jerome Kruse, Fargo, ND.

Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 2, at 7 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, with a gathering of friends at 6 PM in the funeral home.

Beatrice Koehler

Beatrice O. Koehler, 100, Eventide Home, Moorhead, formerly of 1331 – 6th Street South in Fargo, died Friday, April 6th, 2001 at Eventide.

Beatrice O. Oliver, daughter of Harry & Clara (Vollmer) Oliver, was born on December 13, 1900 at Stillwater, Minnesota. She attended grade school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Bea attended high school in New Ulm, Minnesota, graduating in 1918, where she played center on the basketball team. She worked as a secretary in Sioux Falls, SD. She was united in marriage with Armin E. Koehler, of New Ulm, MN, on April 15, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1933, they moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota and in 1939, moved to Fargo, where they had lived since. Bea worked for the Red Cross during World War II. She was a longtime member of Plymouth Congregational Church, ND Federation of Music Clubs for over 50 years, PEO AM Chapter, the Fine Arts Club. She also belonged to Bridge Clubs, Dance Club and the Elkettes. Armin died on February 9, 1978. Bea entered Eventide Lutheran Home on July 20, 1996, the family would like to thank those at Eventide for their wonderful care and compassion to her and her family, especially the Staff on Heritage Court. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and always remembered in their hearts.

Nephews: Tad Pirmantgon of Austin, MN, Stanley Koehler of Flower Mound, TX, and Loren Oliver of Seattle, WA

Cousins: Beverly Urness of North Branch, MN, Florence Mary Emme of Lakeland, FL, Arlene Peterson of Hudson, WI, and Gordon Oliver of Shoreview, MN

Special Friend: Marcella Thorene of Stillwater, MN

Visitation: 6 to 8 PM, Monday at Hanson-Runsvold and for one hour before services at the church.

Funeral: 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo, with Rev. James Martin officiating.

Burial: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 11th at New Ulm City cemetery, New Ulm, Minnesota.

Arvilla Joncas

Arvilla Joncas, 78, Fargo, ND, died Friday, December 21, 2001, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo.

Arvilla Johnson was born October 24, 1923 to Sylvia and Tallack Johnson in Oklee, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. In 1929, they moved to Clearbrook, MN, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1942. She attended Dakota Business School and the Minnesota School of Business, Minneapolis, MN.

Arvilla worked as Chief Internal Auditor for Western Oil and Fuel Co. in Minneapolis. In 1948, she married James Joncas and in 1950 their son, Scott, was born. Arvilla moved to Fargo in 1976. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, belonged to Joshua Circle, and was a past member of the Women’s Executive Board.

She is survived by two brothers, Willard Johnson, Clearbrook, MN, and Don (Dorothy) Johnson, Fargo; one nephew; three nieces; three great nephews; and one great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, December 26, 2001, 10:30 AM, First Lutheran Chapel, Fargo, ND.

Burial: Clearbrook, MN (at a later date)

Clifford Johnson

Clifford W. Johnson, 74, of Fargo, died Friday, March 30, 2001 in his home.

Clifford was born January 10, 1927 in Leonard, North Dakota to Henning and Lulu (Gulland) Johnson.

He attended school in Leonard, then worked on the family farm for five years. In 1948, Clifford married Inez Lee in Leonard. They then moved to Fargo where Clifford worked at various service stations until he purchased Cliff’s University Standard which he owned for about 25 years. Then he owned Cliff’s Repair and Towing until the time of his illness. Inez died on May 6, 2000.

Clifford and Inez enjoyed their summers camping and fishing at Lake Ida. He was an active member of the Eagles, serving as a Trustee for several years.

Clifford is survived by 3 daughters, Eileen (Doug) Ketcham, Fargo, ND, Audrey (Ron) Helgeson, Fargo, ND, and Pam (Terry) Taralson, Fargo, ND. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Leo (Janet) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Charles (Violet) Johnson, Moorhead, MN, Arthur Johnson, Ottertail, MN, 5 sisters, Hilda Sell, Amenia, ND, Alma Klug, Fargo, ND, Mary Lou Jensen, Colorado Springs, CO, Lilyann (Don) Plum, Rockford, IL, Joyce (Ben) Greenwalt, Rockford, IL, 7 grandchildren, Shane (Tiffany) Ketcham, West Des Moines, IA, Rhonda (Chris) Franek, Fargo, ND, Erica Olson, Fargo, ND, Nick Taralson, Fargo, ND, Mitch Taralson, Fargo, ND, Jennifer (Paul) White, Ogden, UT, and Jeff Ketcham, Mpls, MN, and 1 great-grandchild, Tyler Ketcham, West Des Moines, IA, and many special nieces and nephews.

Clifford is preceded in death by his wife Inez, his parents, Henning and Lulu, 5 brothers, Alfred, Lester, Gordon, Henry, and Edwin, and 1 sister Julia.

Funeral Service at Elim Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at 11:00 AM.

Visitation will be held at Hanson-Runsvold on Monday from 5-8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM.

Arliss Jensen

Arliss Jean (Fluge) Jensen, 68, Fargo, ND, died Friday, October 26, 2001 from congestive heart failure at home where her family was able to care for her.

Arliss was born December 3, 1932, in rural Starkweather, ND, to Samuel and Ethel Fluge. She was raised and educated in Starkweather and later in Egeland, ND, where she graduated. She continued her education at Aaker’s Business School in Grand Forks, and began her career as a bookkeeper in Devils Lake.

At this time she met her future husband, Edmund (Ed) Jensen and was married on October 12, 1956 at St Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, ND. Ed and Arliss then made their home in Moorhead, MN, and later moved to Fargo, ND, in 1959. Arliss continued her bookkeeping career at Fairmont Foods for 8 years and then at Culligan for the next 25 years. She changed careers to manage Bethany Homes Coffee & Gift Shop, a chef at the Sons of Norway, and most recently at Hope Lutheran Church. Arliss’ specialty was her home-styled baked pies, and were highly praised by all. Arliss also donated her spare time as a volunteer working in many areas of the community: Hope church, Elim Care Center and Cove Coffee Shop, Rosewood Auxiliary and RSVP.

Arliss enjoyed activities with family, friends, traveling, sightseeing, gardening, and bowling.. A constant source of pleasure was helping her family with various projects and time spent with grandchildren and great-grandsons.

She is survived by her husband, Edmund P. Jensen (Fargo), her children, Karen Jensen, Jo Marie Jensen, (Fargo), Neil (Sandra) P Jensen (Nellis AFB, Las Vegas); her mother, Ethel Fluge; her sister, Donna Mae Fluge (Fargo), her brothers, Arnold (Gladys) Fluge (Egeland, ND), and Duane Fluge (Bozeman MT); her grandchildren, Shawn (Khna) Chroeung, Nicole Newbury, Brandon Newbury (Fargo), and Samuel Jensen (Las Vegas); her great-grandchildren ("the boys"), Kana and Keenan Chroeung (Fargo); and many nieces, nephews and cousins (USA and Norway).

Her father, Samuel Fluge, and granddaughter, Holly A. Jensen precede Arliss in death.

The memorial service for Arliss will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus with a Gathering of Friends being held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 PM. Inurnment will be in the North Dakota Veteran’s cemetery, Mandan, ND on Thursday at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, Hospice, Hope Lutheran Church, or Hope Care.

Arthur Janke

Arthur S. Janke, 77, of Fargo, died Friday, July 13, 2001 at Rosewood Nursing Home, Fargo.

Arthur was born on June 29, 1924 to Otto and PhoeBe (Jennings) Janke in Lampton, Wisconsin. He attended school in Devil’s Lake, ND and graduated from there on May 28, 1942. In 1957, Arthur married Delores Morken in Watertown, SD. He worked for the Ottertail Power Company in Devil’s Lake as a linesman and then for NSP in Fargo as a Steam Engineer. Arthur was in the Navy and Army, both with Honorable Discharge.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and PhoeBe Janke; one sister, Alma Caulkins; and two brothers, Harry and Lesley Janke.

Arthur is survived by one son, Doug Janke of West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Dawn Welles of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Betty Jackson

Betty J. Jackson, 80, of Fargo, North Dakota, died Monday, March 26, 2001 in Elim Care Center, Fargo.

Betty Jean Sweeney was born January 1, 1921 in Fargo, ND to Matthew and Clara (Layton) Sweeney. Betty grew up in Fargo and graduated from Central High School in 1940. She married Lloyd "Jocko" Jackson on August 22, 1942 in Fargo, ND. Together they raised their family in Fargo. Lloyd died in 1982. Betty worked for Richtman’s Printing Company for 30 years until retiring in 1986. She was a charter member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by: 2 sons, Roy (Janet) Jackson of Fargo, Lloyd (Karen) Jackson of Fargo; one sister, Francis (Leigh) Scott of Fargo; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 30, 2001 at 2 PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Visitation: Thursday, March 29, from 5-7 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, and one hour prior to service in the church.

Burial: Riverside cemetery, Fargo.

Betty Jean Brown Hatch

Betty Jean Brown Hatch, 49, Fargo, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Betty Jean Brown, daughter of Charles Wayne and Elnora Katrina (Hansen) Brown, was born on October 20, 1951 at Belview, MN. She grew up and was educated at Echo, MN. She went to Minneapolis Business College, Minneapolis, MN. Before she graduated, the business college hired Betty and she worked there until 1974. She was united in marriage with Larry Hatch on January 19, 1974 at Moose Lake, MN. They moved to Moorhead, MN and then to Argusville, ND. She worked at MeritCare, NDSU and Northern School Supply. She moved into Fargo in 1984. She worked at MeritCare for eighteen years, until her most recent hospitalization. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in April of 1996, with a reoccurrence in the spring of 2001. She lived each day with faith and courage, blessing all those she touched.

She is survived by: A Daughter and A Son: Tanya (Jason) Pearson of Coon Rapids, MN & Erik Hatch of Fargo, ND. Grandson: Zachary Pearson. Mother: Elnora Brown of Marshall, MN. Four Sisters and One Brother: Anne Koski of Fargo, ND, Corinne (Allyn) Bendix of Echo, MN, Charlene (Scott) Grabow of St. Bonifacius, MN, Mary (Ken) Bostrom of Galveston, TX and Charlie (Rosie) Brown of Honolulu, HI.

Visitation: 4 to 7 PM, Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Hanson-Runsvold, Fargo.

Prayer Service: 5 PM, Sunday at Hanson-Runsvold.

Funeral: 10:30 AM, Monday, June 18, 2001 at First Lutheran Church, Fargo.
