Amy J. Lybeck, 87, Fargo, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Bethany Homes. Her death followed a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Amy Georgeson was born on March 8, 1916 to Justin and Olga Georgeson in Heimdal, ND. Amy was one of 9 children, growing up on a farm near Maddock, ND.

She graduated valedictorian from Maddock High School where she lettered in track and basketball. Amy later moved to Fargo, where she worked for the Fargo Cafe and also the Dakota Tractor Company. On November 14, 1942 she was united in marriage with Earl C. Lybeck in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Fargo and raised 3 children until his death in July of 1988.

Amy was an avid dancer, bowler, knitter and golfer. She golfed and bowled until retiring from these sports at 85. Well into her 80’s, she would often golf 18 holes in the morning, and be asked to golf another 9 or 18 holes in the afternoon. She was over 40 years of age when she started her 40-year addiction to bowling. There were weeks when she bowled every day of the week, morning, afternoon and or evening leagues. Last year Amy was inducted into the FM Woman’s Bowling Hall of Fame. Her hobbies didn’t stop there. She was also a beautiful ballroom dancer. For a number of years beginning in the 60’s, Amy and a few of her lady friends danced the Roaring 20’s Charleston routine throughout the Fargo Moorhead area, to include performing on then WDAY’s Party Line show. When Amy wasn’t golfing, bowling, walking, or doing volunteer work at her church, she would knit, and knit and knit. Amy loved knitting, but more than that, she loved giving her work away. It will never be known the hundred’s if not thousands of booties, scarf’s, golf hoods, sweaters, afghans and stocking caps she has knit for friends, acquaintances and occasionally individuals who she will never have the pleasure of meeting.

Amy is survived by two sons, David (Ellen), Fargo and Thomas (Robin), Denver, CO; a daughter, Cheryl (Lance) Caplin, Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Lybeck, Jill (Gerry) Ulrich, Eric (Erin) Caplin, and Jackie Caplin; and 1 great grandson Tyler Ulrich.

Amy is also survived by 1 brother, Arthur Georgeson, Englewood, CO; 3 sisters, Myrtle Roberts, Maddock, ND, Minerva Gutterud, Spokane, WA, and Joyce Georgeson, Denver, CO.

Amy will be dearly missed, not only her family, but by the countless friends who loved her very much.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo, ND, Hospice of the Red River Valley and the First Lutheran Church of Fargo, ND.
