Darlene J. Limbaugh
BROKEN BOW - Darlene June Limbaugh, 78, of Broken Bow died June 5, 2001, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

She was born March 3, 1923, in Boone County to Guy Z. and Edna Darling Quiter. She grew up in Boone County and graduated from Albion High School in 1942.

On Sept. 24, 1942, she married Thomas Limbaugh at West Point.

They lived and worked in Omaha before moving to Broken Bow about 1950.

Mrs. Limbaugh worked at the Custer County Sheriff's office for eight years. She retired in 1981. On Sept. 1, 2000, the couple moved to Liberty Square in Broken Bow.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow.

She enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda (David) Thompson of Broken Bow; two grandsons, Kevin Thompson of Kearney and Aaron Thompson of Carthage, Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Whitney Thompson of Kearney.

Memorials may be sent to Tom Limbaugh, 145 Memorial Drive, Broken Bow, NE 68822 for the Prairie Pioneer Center.

Private family graveside services will be Friday in the Broken Bow Cemetery with the Rev. Pastor Gene Goben officiating.

Barbara Eileen Luce
LEWELLEN - Barbara Eileen Luce, 60, of Lewellen died June 3, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born Aug. 11, 1940, to Cecil E. and Mamie Horner Root at Hayes Center. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1957.

She married Walter Hart and they had two children, Randy and Christine.

On Nov. 17, 1972, she married Harold Lynn Luce.

Mrs. Luce is survived by her husband; a daughter, Christine Hart of West Lafayette, Ind.; a son, Randy (Alicia) Hart of Delphi, Ind.; three grandchildren, Adam and April Hill, both of Lewellen, and Jeremy Hart of West Lafayette; two sisters, Jean Brandt and Evelyn (Larry) Flagle, both of North Platte; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close and special friend, Maxine Locke of Lewellen.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. MDT Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Oshkosh with the Rev. Paul Maunu officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. CDT Friday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Holechek Funeral Home of Oshkosh is in charge.

Anita M. Nisley
Anita Margarethe Nisley, 82, died June 5, 2001, at her home in North Platte.

She was born Dec. 31, 1918, on the Island of Als, Denmark, to Frederick Wilhelm Theodore and Thora Rasmussen Bruhn. She grew up on the Island of Als and attended nursing school in Sonderborg, Denmark. She was a surgical nurse during World War II in Copenhagen. During the war she assisted the Jews in escaping to Sweden.

In 1947, she came to America as an exchange nurse at Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, where she met her husband.

On June 18, 1948, she married Robert James Nisley in Rapid City, S.D. They had made their home in North Platte since 1952.

Mrs. Nisley's major hobbies were needlepoint and china painting.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and active in Lois Circle. She taught Sunday school and was active in many other church activities.

Surviving her are two daughters, Karen Long of Winnetka, Ill., and Ellen (Henry) Stahla of North Platte; a son, James (Shirley) Nisley of North Platte; three sisters, Karen Andersen and Hanna Hansen and Thyra Svendsen, all of Denmark; five grandchildren, Kelli (Jonathan) Arbogast, Daniel Nisley, Christopher Long, Nathan (Stephanie) Jenkins and Meghan Halstead; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Arbogast II and Autumn Rose Arbogast.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A memorial has been established for Great Plains Hospice and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Foundation.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Nathan R. Wadewitz officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

The casket will not be opened at the church.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel and prior to services Friday at the church.

Kenneth J. VanVleet
SUTHERLAND - Kenneth John VanVleet, 49, of Sutherland died June 2, 2001, in Sutherland.

He was born June 2, 1952, at Kearney to Wesley Jr. and Mary Catherine Priel VanVleet. At age 7, he moved with his family to Sutherland, where he graduated from high school in 1971.

Mr. VanVleet was an electrician and steel worker before becoming a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways for several years. He graduated from Equine Dentistry and Horseshoeing in May 1984 at Phoenix.

In October 1995, he graduated from Emmanuel School of Radiology in Omaha. He worked at the hospital in Henderson for two years and was employed in the radiology department at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte at the time of his death.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed goose and turkey hunting and rodeo bulldogging. He was baptized in the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his father of Bandera, Texas; his mother Mary VanVleet Bryant McVay and her husband Bob McVay of Englewood, Colo.; two sisters, Virginia Fear of Paxton and Annette (Larry) Kennedy of Sutherland; two brothers, Morris (Ruth) VanVleet of Kearney and Mike (Karen) VanVleet of Bandera; two half-brothers, Raymond (Laura) Bryant of Las Vegas and Clyde Bryant of Ogallala; his grandfather, Wesley VanVleet Sr. of Kearney; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia VanVleet Green, and grandparents, Pat "P.E." and Isabel Priel and Anita VanVleet.

A memorial has been established.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. Memorial Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. James Janovec as celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Riverview Cemetery south of Sutherland.

Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte, and prior to rosary and Mass at the church in Sutherland.

William G. Peddycoart
William Glen Peddycoart, 93, of North Platte died June 6, 2001, at Linden Court.

He was born Aug. 25, 1907, to Harlan and Ethel Corley Peddycoart at Tuscola, Ill. He grew up in his father's blacksmith shop, learning the trade, and later moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he made auto parts.

On May 18, 1929, he married Mildred Rice of Tuscola. They lived in Toledo until the Great Depression forced them to move back home and find work. He was a prison guard at Joliet, Ill., for nine years, gaining the rank of lieutenant.

He left Joliet and put his skills to work training security guards at a munitions plant when conditions in Europe began to heat up.

Having a background in blacksmithing, he then worked at a shipyard in Seneca, Ill., making tools for workmen building LST's, flat-bottom landing ships.

With World War II coming to an end, he went to work for a small railroad in central Illinois as a fireman and later transferred to North Platte with the Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer from 1945 until his retirement. He was also on the North Platte police force during layoffs.

Mr. Peddycoart was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Platte Valley Lodge 32 AF & AM, the Order of Eastern Star, and was also a Shriner, performing in the Shrine Clown Band for many years.

Survivors include a son, Daniel of North Platte; a brother, Billy (Camilla) Peddycoart of Champaign, IL.; two grandchildren, David (Linda) Peddycoart of Cedar Park, Texas, and Melodee (Allen) Ackland of Grafton; one great-grandchild, Daniel Ackland; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Judie Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Carol; his parents; three sisters; and a brother.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. James Hawley officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and prior to service time Saturday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Roberta Schneidereit
BREWSTER - Roberta Schneidereit, 66, of Brewster died June 3, 2001, in Colorado.

She was born March 7, 1935, at Lexington to Ernest and Elizabeth Neben. She attended the First Lutheran Day School from 1941 to 1949, and graduated from Lexington High School in 1953. She attended Concordia Teacher's College at Seward from 1953 to 1954. She then taught for two years at St. John's Lutheran School, a one-room school located 12 miles southwest of McCook. She attended Kearney State Teacher's College during the summers of 1954 and 1955.

On June 3, 1956, she married Carl Schneidereit at the First Lutheran Church in the Buffalo Community north of Lexington.

Mrs. Schneidereit is survived by her husband; five daughters, Reniece (Joel) Shult of Nicollet, Minn., Janine (Joe) Roye of Alford, Fla., Brenda (Daryl) Oster of Crystal River, Fla., Karma Schneidereit of Omaha, and Clarinda (Bill) Marty of Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Ivan of Brewster; and two grandsons, Daniel Shult of Nicollet and James Roye of Alford.

She was preceded in death by a stillborn baby; her parents; a brother, Lester Neben; and a sister-in-law, Jan.

Memorials are suggested to the Brewtser Community Center, St. John's Lutheran Church, or the Scholarship for Parochial School Teachers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brewster Gymnasium with the Rev. Robert Strawn officiating. Burial will be in the German Valley Cemetery north of Brewster.

The memorial book can be signed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Carl W. Zimmerman Jr.
DENVER, Colo. - Carl W. Zimmerman Jr., formerly of North Platte, died in Lakewood, Colo., May 29, 2001.

He was born Jan. 19, 1930, in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School.

Mr. Zimmerman is survived by two daughters, Lori Pepper and Lana Higbee, both of Denver; a son, Terry Zimmerman of Denver; a granddaughter, Julie Higbee of Denver; two grandsons, Jason Higbee and Matthew Pepper, both of Denver; three sisters, Joyce Allen of North Platte and Peggy Isley and Alice McConnell, both of Paxton; and two brothers, Robert Zimmerman of Phillipsburg, Mich., and Leslie Zimmerman of Tulsa, Okla.

Services were June 1, 2001 at the Crown Hill Mortuary in Denver.

Boyd Gene Gigax
HAYES CENTER - Boyd Gene Gigax of Hayes Center died June 5, 2001, at Hayes Center. He was 73.

He was born July 1, 1927, at Hayes Center to Elmer and Alice Carey Gigax. He attended rural school at District 9 and Hayes County High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II with the Seabee's. He was discharged in 1946.

On Nov. 27, 1949, he married Barbara Peterson at McCook. He was a truck driver for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He also worked for General Motors and farmed in Hayes Center.

Mr. Gigax is survived by his wife; two sons, Donald (Maggie) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Blake (Mary) of Hayes Center; five grandchildren, Alice (Shawn) Hultquist, Gene (Jennifer) Gigax, and Jennifer, Stephen and Rebecca Gigax; a great-grandson, Garrett Dahlstrom Hultquist; two brothers, Gilbert (Greta) Gigax and Paul Gigax, both of Hayes Center; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Gigax of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rodger; and a grandson, John Charles Gigax.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hayes County EMT Rescue Squad and Ambulance fund.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church in Hayes Center. Burial with military honors will follow in the Hayes County Cemetery.
