Lola Bernice Bradley
LEWELLEN — Lola Bernice Bradley, 92, of Lewellen died June 23, 2001, at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

She was born Sept. 1, 1908, to Robert and Ellen Keith Roberson at Tryon. At an early age, she moved with her family to Lewellen, where she grew up and attended school.

In October 1923, she married Samuel Taylor Bradley at Julesburg, Colo. They had 15 children.

Mrs. Bradley was a nurses' aide, worked for Midwick Corporation and baby-sat for friends. She enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking.

Survivors include 12 children, a sister, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Aug. 22, 1979, three children, her parents, a sister, two brothers and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the family to benefit the rescue units in Lewellen and Garden counties.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ash Hollow Cemetery at Lewellen.

Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is in charge.

Elta Orton Gaddis
WALLACE — Elta Orton Gaddis, 88, of Grant and longtime Wallace-area resident, died June 23, 2001, at her daughter's home in Wallace.

She was born Nov. 30, 1912, at Virginia to Harve and Katie Reynolds Van Landingham. She grew up and attended school in the Beatrice area. She moved to Lincoln County when she was a young woman and lived south of Wallace.

On June 17, 1930, she married Francis Orton at Beatrice. They ranched south of Dickens and later moved to their farm home south of Wallace. Her husband died in 1971.

In 1987, she married Cliff Gaddis and they made their home in Grant. She continued to make her home in Grant after her husband's death in 1995.

Mrs. Gaddis was a member of the Wallace Legion Auxiliary and the Wallace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing and watching stock car racing.

She is survived by two daughters, Patty (Willis) Ogier and Ruby Kraft, both of Wallace, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she also was preceded in death by a son, Jim, and an infant daughter, Evelyn, her parents, four sisters and five brothers.

A memorial has been established.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Cemetery with the Rev. John Kilgore officiating.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Marjorie M. Linke
EUSTIS — Marjorie Mary Linke, 76, died June 22, 2001, at the Elwood Care Center.

She was born Nov. 8, 1924, northeast of Eustis to Carl and Nettie Fern Anderson Kugler. In her youth she lived on a farm in rural Dawson County and then moved to Lexington to attend school. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1942. She taught school for two years before moving to Lincoln, where she attended the University of Nebraska. She worked for Western Electric.

On Aug. 15, 1945, she married Arthur Linke and they moved southwest of Eustis. In 1948, they moved south of Eustis. She was an active farm wife, raising chickens, gardening and she used her creative sewing abilities for her daughters. She was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts and Ladies Aid and was a board member and volunteer at the Eustis Library. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis.

Mrs. Linke is survived by her husband; three daughters, Janet (David) McCotter of Chandler, Ariz., Donna (Dick) Farlow of Gretna and Marsha Delp of Lexington; two grandchildren, Adams Delp of North Platte and Jordan McCotter of Chandler; two sisters, Lourene Neilsen of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Carla (Lloyd) Rigby of Yakima, Wash.; and two brothers, Neil (Audrey) Kugler of Lexington and Jim (Lorabelle) Kugler of Loup City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Keith.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Eustis with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church in Eustis. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge.

Carl C. Wahl
EUSTIS — Carl C. Wahl, 82, of Lexington, formerly of Eustis, died June 23, 2001, at Lexington.

He was born Jan. 1, 1919, near Eustis to Jacob and Pauline Zeeh Wahl. He graduated from Eustis High School in 1936. He also graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed a master's degree in geology in 1947. He worked in seismology while completing his degree.

On Aug. 29, 1948, he married Phyllis Axtell at Eustis. The couple lived at Corpus Christi, Texas, and Houston for the next 20 years while he was employed with Shell Oil Company.

The couple later moved to Gate, Okla., where he was a partner in the Axtell Silica Mining operation. They had lived at Lexington for the past month.

During his early life, Mr. Wahl played minor league baseball in Texas and was active throughout the years in organizing Little League baseball. He also was a coach and umpire.

Survivors are his wife; a brother, Edwin Wahl of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, Bob (Helen) Axtell of Ponca City, Okla.; nieces and nephews, Jon Wahl and Kathy Rupe of Eustis, Chuck and Ann Wahl of Lincoln, Jane Wahl of Fraser, Colo., Dee Holbein of Cozad, Lois Stebbins of Gothenburg, Keith Wahl of Clancy, Mont., Mark and Jason Axtell of Oklahoma and Bruce Axtell of Tennessee.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church at Eustis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Eustis with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge.

Fred C. Alberts
COZAD - Fred Alberts, 90, of Cozad died June 24, 2001, at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

He was born Jan. 16, 1911, at Hildreth to Walter and Hannah Albers Alberts. He attended rural school at Blue Hill.

On March 18, 1934, he married Doris Beyen at Blue Hill and they made their home at Bladen before moving to Cozad in 1936. He did farm work in the Cozad area and was later employed with Allied Mills for 40 years until his retirement.

Mr. Alberts was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He and his wife spent the winter months in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard (Helen) and Jerry (Mona), all of Cozad; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry; two sisters, Etta Pavelka and Fannie Wechter; and three brothers, Albert, Ralph and Herman.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Cozad with the Rev. Irwin Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Elmer John Biel
OGALLALA - Elmer John Biel, 90, of Ogallala died June 24, 2001, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

He was born Sept. 19, 1910, to John and Dora Greggerson Biel in Millard. He attended the Willowdale School District 45 at Millard through the sixth grade. The family moved to the Elkhorn area in March 1921, where he continued his education in seventh and eighth grades at District 28 in Douglas County. At the age of 13, he moved to Keith County due to health problems.

He worked for room and board on the farm of his parents' friends, the Marcees Seavers. He moved to Chappell when he was 21 and farmed there a year before moving to Perkins County in 1932. He rented ground five miles north of Grant and farmed for himself.

This same ground is being rented and farmed by his son, Robert, and grandsons, James and Andrew.

In 1933, he moved to Keith County and purchased farm ground north of Ogallala.

On Aug. 21, 1940, he married Anita Sass at Ogallala. They purchased the home farm site in 1941. He remained active in farming until age 85, when he retired due to health problems.

Mr. Biel was instrumental in the building of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and he had served on many church and school boards throughout the years. He also served on the Keith County rural fire board, District 18 school board, Keith County Farm Bureau and the Nebraska Wheat Grower's Association.

He enjoyed farming and restoring antique tractors as well as watching plants grow and thrive. He actively cared for his yard, flowers and tended a garden until four weeks ago when he was admitted to the hospital and later the care home.

Survivors include two sons, William (Beverly) of Colby, Kan., and Robert (Geraldine) of Ogallala; two granddaughters, Lynette (Mark) Stedry of Mechanicville, N.Y., and Julie Biel of Minden; three grandsons, John (Carol) Biel of York and James (Misty) Biel and Andrew Biel, all of Ogallala; a great-grandson, Christopher Stedry; a sister, Edna Sass of Ogallala; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Vivian Grimm; and three brothers, Wilford, Herb and Irvin.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala with the Rev. David Dobbertien officiating.

Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.

A. LaVerne Karre
McCOOK - A. Laverne Karre of McCook, formerly of Hayes County, died June 23, 2001, after a long struggle with lymphoma. She was 80.

She was born April 5, 1921, to Henry and Berniece Moulton Nitsch in Hayes County. She was baptized at an early age and was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church.

On April 13, 1945, she married William I. Karre in McCook. They lived in rural Hayes County until her husband's death on Feb. 14, 1979, and she moved to McCook, where she had lived since 1980.

Mrs. Karre was active in her church, 4-H and taught school in Hayes and Frontier counties. She was involved with her church and the hospital auxiliary in McCook. She was a homemaker and a caregiver.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy (John) Mabile of McCook; two sons, Lonnie (Susan) of Grand Island and Gordon of Omaha; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Zalia Nitsch of Hayes Center; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Maxine Whitman and Marlys Brown Henrickson; and two brothers, Ivan and Arvene Nitsch.

Memorials may be give to Hospice, KNGN Radio, the Leukemia Society or the hospital auxiliary.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullmann officiating. Burial will be at 2:45 p.m. in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge.
