James C. Hunt
James C. Hunt, 72, of North Platte died July 17, 2001, at Bryan LGH in Lincoln from heart failure and cancer.

He was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Paris, Texas. He was adopted by Roy L. and Rosa Lee Lambert Couch. He lived in North Platte and graduated in 1948. He joined the U.S. Army for five years as an electronics first radio man.

In 1953, he married Mary Easton at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte. He was employed as a electrician for Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 1986 as a electrician foreman.

He was active in Boy Scouts, coached boy's baseball and the All-Star team for the Knight of Columbus. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and played on the baseball team. He served on the Opportunity Center Board and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers, the American Railway and Airway Supervisors Association Lodge 5019. He was active in the Young Eagles and a former chapter president of the EAA Chapter 562.

Mr. Hunt was also a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the American Legion and was a tribal member of the Muscogee Nation. He enjoyed girls softball, fishing, hunting and camping outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Judy Hunt of Axtell, Mary (Joe) White and Geni (Richard) Karre, all of North Platte; seven sons, Jim "Chuck" of Port Angeles, Wash., Bill (Friede), Tom, David (Monica) and Chad (Stacei), all of North Platte and Scott (Barb) and Alan (Karen), all of Lincoln; 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; a half brother, a granddaughter, Sarah; and a grandson, Philip.

Memorials are suggested to the Civil Air Patrol.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Art Faesser officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.

Micheal M. 'Mick' Kearney
OVERTON - Micheal M. "Mick" Kearney, 77, of Overton died July 16, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Dawson County to John James and Anna L. Ripp Kearney. He attended school at Dawson County District 6 and graduated from Lexington High School in 1942. He then entered the U.S. Army.

On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Ida Oma Norton at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton. They made their home on a farm near Overton where he lived until his death.

He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton as well as attending St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. He enjoyed dancing, was a cowboy and liked horses and his dog, Festus. As a young man he enjoyed hunting coyotes and being with his family, playing cards and farming.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Marty (Eloise) of Minden; a sister, Katie Bourn of Overton; a brother, John M. (Marge) Kearney of Overton; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Barrick, Margaret "Peg" Schmidt and Phyllis Kearney; two nieces; and four nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lexington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with the Rev. Mark Maresh officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ann's Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at the church in Overton.

Elmer Lucero
COZAD - Elmer Lucero of Cozad died July 15, 2001, at the Cozad Hospital. He was 74.

He was born July 19, 1926, at Las Animas, Colo., to Onesimo and Josephine Lucero and attended school at Las Animas. During his lifetime he worked in several states, living 13 years in Nevada and two years in Colorado, before moving to Cozad in April 2001.

Mr. Lucero is survived by four daughters, Renee Lucero of Connecticut, Delores (Joe) Garcia of Sacramento, Calif., Valerie Mendez of Denver and Debra (George) Songstad of Westminster, Colo.; four sons, Raymond of Sacramento, Leonard of Greeley, Colo., Elmer Jr. (Rosa) of Thornton, Colo., and Adam (Pauline) of Cozad; two sisters, Rita Eckart and Marcella Chavez, both of Denver; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wyatt; and a brother, Albert.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad with the Rev. Keith Paff of the Church of God officiating.

Burial will be in Denver.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home in Cozad.

Beverly D. McCarty
Beverly D. McCarty, 52, of North Platte died July 17, 2001, at her home.

She was born March 21, 1949, at Valentine to Douglas J. and Della Foster Baker. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1967.

On Jan. 30, 1985, she married Terry McCarty at North Platte. She worked as a bookkeeper at Carhart Lumber from March 1991 to June 2001.

She liked animals and enjoyed racing.

Mrs. McCarty is survived by her parents; her husband; three daughters, Willow (Marty) Beyer, Tina Giles and Wendy (Mark) Thompson, all of North Platte; a son, Jeffrey Telitz of North Platte; two stepchildren, Tina (Eric) Pelland and Travis McCarty, both of North Platte; three brothers, Douglas Lynn (Barb) Baker of Fort Worth, Texas, Timothy (Pat) Baker of Maywood and Bruce Baker of Curtis; six grandchildren, Damian, Darien, and DeNae Giles, Morgan and Tylan Thompson, and Jadelyn Beyer; and two stepgrandchildren, Zathan and Zerica Pelland.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Chaplain Perry Edwards of Great Plains Regional Medical Center officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Garden.

The body was cremated. The memorial book may be signed from 1 to 5 p.m. today and Thursday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.

Martin Olsen
VENANGO - Martin Olsen, 93, longtime resident of the Venango and Grant communities, died July 16, 2001, at the Perkins County Communtiy Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1908, near Nebraska City to Martin and Mariane Iverson Olsen. They moved to Perkins County in 1925, and he graduated from Perkins County High School in 1928.

On May 22, 1931, he married Virginia Newth at McCook. They farmed south of Venango most of thier married lives and moved into Venango in 1977. His wife died in 1994, and he moved to Westview Retirement in Grant in 1995.

He was active in the Venango community, serving with the Lions Club, the school board, the Masonic Lodge, the Farm Bureau and served on various boards with the Venango Community Church.

Mr. Olsen is survived by two daughters, Janet (Gary) Chrisp of Encampment, Wyo., and Jean (Al) Jorgensen of Venango; a son, Dave of Broomfield, Colo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Olsen was also preceded in death by two brothers, Anders and Clyde Olsen; and a grandson, Jim Chrisp.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Venango Community Church with the Rev. Cecil Ball officiating. Burial will be in the Venango Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Delcie Dene Sanders
SCOTTSBLUFF - Delcie Dene Sanders, 74, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Ogallala, died July 16, 2001, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.

She was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Elsie to Bill and Hazel Plunkett.

She was a graduate of Ogallala High School.

On Nov. 6, 1946, she married Virgil Sanders.

Her faith in God was strong and with her to the end.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband of 54 years; two daughters, Connie (Scott) Westfahl of North Platte and Valerie (Terry) Stearns of Arizona; five grandchildren, Scott, Jim and Travis Stearns and Suzi and Robin Westfahl; two great-granddaughters, Teashina Marie Stearns and Allison Paige Evans; a sister, Vivian (Cecil) Pierpoint of Nevada; a brother, George (Louise) Plunkett of Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Mae Winstrom, Lila Tagge and her 2-year-old twin sister Doris Lorene Plunkett.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday MDT at Draucker Funeral Chapel in Ogallala with Max and Jay Towell officiating.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. CDT Friday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.

Minnie R. Wyant
MAYWOOD - Minnie R. Wyant, 90, of Maywood, died July 15, 2001, at the Imperial Nursing Home.

She was born Sept. 4, 1910, to E.J. and Anna Buss Ackerman north of Cozad. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1928, and taught school near Farnam before her marriage to Wallace G. Wyant in North Platte. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1991.

While living in North Platte, she worked at the WJ O'Connor Dime Store. They then moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where she managed a school lunch program for six years. After moving to Maywood, she worked at Shirley's Grocery for nine years until her retirement.

Mrs. Wyant attended the Christian Church in Maywood.

Survivors include a sister, Wanda (Wilbur) Larson of Imperial; nieces and nephews including, Kay (Eugene) Haarberg of Imperial and Jim (Marianne) Ackerman of Lexington; and a sister-in-law, Clara Ackerman of Omaha.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; six brothers.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 am. Thursday at the Christian Church in Maywood with the Rev. Dale Heimer officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.

Robert S. Andrews
GOTHENBURG - Robert S. Andrews, 76, of Hot Springs, S.D., died July 17, 2001, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Hot Springs.

He was born May 22, 1925, at Gothenburg to George W. and Myrtis S. Weathers Andrews. He graduated from high school in 1943. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Andrews was a teacher at several high schools and colleges.

Until his retirement, he was a psychologist at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.

He was a member of the United Churches of Hot Springs and the Friends of the Library, where he served in various offices. He enjoyed his cats and many activities.

Survivors include a sister, Patricia of Krum, Texas, and nieces, Shirley "Sally" Walker of Lexington, Barbara of Big Springs, Texas, Bette of San Angelo, Texas, and Tracy of Krum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a niece.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peckham Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating. Graveside military honors will be by the Gothenburg Firing Squad.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
