Jared 'Jay' Tryon
Jared "Jay" Tryon, 94, of North Platte died July 16, 2001, at the Pawnee Retirement Hotel in North Platte.
He was born June 5, 1907, at Broken Bow to Ernest and Mary Deming Tryon. He was a longtime resident of the Arnold area, and spent the last few years in North Platte.
Mr. Tryon is survived by his sister, Susan (Harvey) Oncel of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters-in-law, Martha Tryon of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Tryon of Windsor, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and two brothers, John and Robert.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Anna Wright
BROKEN BOW - Anna Elizabeth Wright of Broken Bow died July 21, 2001, at the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow. She was 83.
She was born Sept. 30, 1917, at Bradshaw in York County to William and Pearl Gregory Eberle Sr. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1935.
On May 9, 1937, she married Howard C. Wright at Bartlett. They moved to Broken Bow I 1947. Her husband died March 1997.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Financial secretary for 13 years, was a member of the Latrea Circle and was an elder and session member. She did volunteer
Survivors include two daughters, Dee Wright of Broken Bow and Doris Cooley of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a son, Duane (Carol) Wright of Broken Bow; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dorothy Jean Lyddon; son-in-law, Gary Cooley; a granddaughter, Dorothy Ann Lyddon; two sisters, Myra Webb and Marian Finkle; five brothers, William Jr., Leland, Orville, Marlin and Roy.
Memorials are suggested to the Jennie M. Melham Memorial Hospital or the Presbyterian Church of Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Steve Hicks officiating.
Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Orin Mac Connery
Orin Mac Connery, 77, of North Platte died July 22, 2001, at Premier Estates.
He was born Aug. 15, 1923, to Ted and Mamie Reeves Connery in Cody, where he attended high school. In April 1943, he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 158th Infantry during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged as a staff sergeant Jan. 5, 1946.
On Aug. 22, 1946, he married Lois Wobig in Valentine. They lived on a ranch by the Niobrara River, just south of Cody. In May 1961, they moved into Cody where they owned a motel. In August 1996, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and in November 1996, they moved to North Platte due to his illness.
Mr. Connery took over a rural mail contract and carried mail out of Cody into South Dakota for 35 years. He was a hardworking and loving husband, father and grandfather. He valued his many friends and enjoyed visiting with them and their children. His interests were livestock, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 319 Rieke-Mieidle in Cody.
Surviving him is his wife of North Platte; a daughter, Jan (Tim) McQuade of North Platte; two sons, Gary (Kay) of North Platte and Dan (Yvonne) of Mitchell; six grandchildren, Dana Connery of Greeley, Colo., J.C. Connery and Travis and Trea McQuade, all of Denver, Tyler Connery of Louisville, Texas, and Amy Connery of North Platte; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Sierra and Austin; three sisters-in-laws, Dixie, Janet and Hazel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Lillis; four brothers, Eddie, Teddy, Bernard and Roger; and his parents-in-law, Harry and Hazel Wobig.
Memorials are suggested to the kidney dialysis unit at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine.
Services were July 24, 2001, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. David Lux officiating. A military service will be at 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Community Hall in Cody with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery at Cody.

John Clayton Barnes
John Clayton Barnes, 59, of North Platte died July 18, 2001, at St. Mary's Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo., as the result of a car accident.
He was born Nov. 19, 1941, at North Platte to Herbert Clayton and Alice Irene Liljegren Barnes. He grew up in North Platte and graduated in 1961. On July 5, 1963, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until Jan. 5, 1967.
On July 22, 1967, he married Mary Margaret Bollwitt at North Platte. They lived in Omaha, Fremont and Lincoln before returning to North Platte. He worked for the O.K. Tire Co. before going to work for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads in 1973, where he worked for 27 years. He attended Mid-Plains Community College Voc-Tech, receiving diplomas in computer programming and mechanical drafting.
Mr. Barnes was a member of the Berean Fundamental Church and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3. He enjoyed wood working.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cathy Franson of North Platte; four sons, John Carl, Tom and Ron, all of North Platte and William of Hastings; his parents; three brothers, David Dale (Mary E.) of Ogallala, Frank Wesley (Barbara D.) of North Platte and Fredrick Allen (Charlotte E.) of Fairfield, Calif.; four grandchildren, James R., Christopher A. and Ashley D. Franson and Christine Barnes; a great-grandson, Josiah Dean Scott; his father, and mother-in-law, Herbert and Dorothy Shirley of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Linda Lemmert of McCook; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Katie Liljegren and Frankie Barnes.
Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Berean Fundamental Church in North Platte with the Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors by the North Platte Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before the service Monday at the church.
Robert Eugene Kinsman
ARTHUR - Robert Eugene Kinsman, 73, of Arthur died July 25, 2001, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1927, in McPherson County to Allen and Beulah Marvin Kinsman. He attended school in McPherson and Logan counties.
In 1947, he married Phyllis Messick in North Platte. The couple lived in Logan, Lincoln, Keith, and McPherson counties and he worked on several ranches.
Mr. Kinsman was a member of the Arthur Fire and Ambulance Squad and the Elks. At the time of his death, he was serving as chairman of the Arthur Village Board.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vickie (Corky) Kemp of North Platte and Susan J. Johns of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Delores (Swede) Daly and Sheilah (John) Valentine, all of Arthur; four grandchildren, Stacey (Mark) Trumbull of Ogallala, Robbie Kemp and Wendy Connelly, both of North Platte and Kim (Mike) Buitron of Jacksonville, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Derek Uhrmacher and Landon Trumbull, both of Ogallala, Milisa Kemp Melroy of Holdrege and Mikey and Isaac Buitron of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Allen Eugene Kinsman; his parents; and a sister, Mary Lee Kinsman.
Memorials are suggested to Arthur Community Projects.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Arthur High School Auditorium with the Rev. Glendon Epp of the Arthur Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.
Clarence Mac Duryea
BROKEN BOW - Clarence Mac Duryea of Broken Bow died July 28, 2001, at the Jennie Melham Memorial Hospital in Broken Bow. He was 80.
He was born in Omaha May 7, 1921, to Clarence Sr. and Myrtle McClement Duryea. He grew up and went to school in Dunning and graduated from Dunning High School.
In October 1942, he went to the Army Air Force and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany, receiving two Bronze Battle Stars. He worked at various jobs in Dunning.
In 1957, he married Hazel Jean Saner and they moved to Denver.
Mr. Duryea worked for the Montgomery Ward Company for 26 years, retiring in 1985. He returned to Dunning.
He is survived by two brothers, Rex (Mary) Duryea and Donald (Lois) Whiteman, both of Broken Bow; two stepsisters, Bonnie Doggett and Twilla Will; a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his wife July 1995; his mother, Myrtle Duryea Whiteman, and his father.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Tim Pearson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Brewster Cemetery.

Walter G. Hecox
GOTHENBURG - Walter G. Hecox, 89, of Gothenburg, died July 28, 2001, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 16, 1912, in Gothenburg to Albert Charles and Helen G. Curtis Hecox. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1930 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year. He farmed south of Gothenburg his entire life, retiring in 1974.
On April 14, 1940, he married Alice K. Aden in Gothenburg.
Mr. Hecox restored World War II airplanes with the Confederate Air Force. He also enjoyed restoring old cars, and other projects were his passion. He enjoyed flying for many years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Gothenburg, the Confederate Air Force, he was a Pony Express Ride participant and a 75-year member of the Banner Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Gothenburg; a daughter, Elizabeth (Elliot) Johnson of Laramie, Wyo.; a son, James (Marsha) of Gothenburg; a sister, Mildred Anderson of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Erich) Hohl of Lincoln, Eric Johnson of Littleton, John Hecox of Gothenburg and Karna (Cary) Hamilton of Memphis, Tenn.; and a great-granddaughter, Dorian Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Senior Center, Banner Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Banner United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Bill Bicket officiating. Burial will be in the Peckham Cemetery.

Melvin F. Hicken
GOTHENBURG - Melvin F. Hicken of Grand Island, a native of Gothenburg, died July 29, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln. He was 72.
He was born Jan. 16, 1929, to William J. and Violet Aden Hicken at Gothenburg, where he was raised and educated.
On Oct. 17, 1954, he married Mary L. Fecht at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. The couple made their home in Gothenburg for two years and in 1956 moved to Grand Island. He was a line foreman at the Grand Island Utilities Department for 20 years.
Mr. Hicken was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antiques and enjoyed fixing anything electrical.
Surviving him is his wife; a daughter, Violet L. Crouch of Marquette; a son, William (Kimberly) of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Shelton R., Travis L., Chelsea L. and Tiffany M. Crouch and Sandra L., Joseph F. and Joshua J. Hicken; four great-grandchildren, Bailey R., Casandra L. and Jaiden T. Crouch and Briana B. Johnson; three sisters, Juleen Farnstrom of Hebron, Karen Smith of Gothenburg and Kristi Henn of Lincoln; and a brother, Garry Hicken of Gothenburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Ermma Hicken.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be in the American Lutheran Cemetery at Gothenburg.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
