Ernest E. Keller
OMAHA - Ernest E. Keller, formerly of North Platte, died July 27, 2001, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha. He was 77.

He was born in Preston, Kan., Feb. 25, 1924, to Edgar E. and Verma Beach Keller. He grew up on a farm at Iola, Kan., and graduated from Antrim High School.

On March 2, 1943, he married Joyce Redfern.

Mr. Keller entered the Army in May 1943 and served with the 16th Armored Division and 16th Tank Battalion in the European Theater in World War II. He was with the first division to enter Czechoslovakia and remained with the Army of Occupation on the Russian border. He was discharged in May 1946.

He was a partner in Mullen Furniture in Pratt, Kan., until July 1956, when he moved to Denver. He also worked for Speed Queen Corporation and moved to North Platte in June 1956. In 1978, he moved to Omaha, where he worked for United Distributing of Omaha, until his retirement in February 1986.

Surviving him is his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Keller (Gary Garnjobst) of Burlington, Wis., and Lisa (Don) Wilcox of McCook; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt, with the Rev. Tom Griffith of the Free Methodist Church in McPherson, Kan., officiating. Burial will be in Iuka (Kan.) Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Seth Gordon Macy
BRULE - Seth Gordon Macy, 87, of Brule died July 27, 2001, at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

He was born July 24, 1914, in Hebron to Albert and Agnes Murray Macy. He graduated from Carleton High School in 1933. He then worked on several farms in the county.

In the late 1930s, he moved to Keith County to farm with his brother, Frank. In 1941, he entered the Army and served in the European Theatre. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Keith County and farming.

In 1951, he married Alta Anderson in Brady. The couple made their home in Keith County and farmed in both Keith and Perkins counties.

The Macys retired in 1983 and moved to Brule.

Mr. Macy moved to Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala in 1998 due to ill health. His wife died in December 1998.

Surviving him is a daughter, Karen Macy of Lincoln; a son, Neil of Brule; a sister, Ethel Clouse of Grant; and three sisters-in-law, Doris Macy of Ogallala, Doris Ough of Wauneta and Eunice Grier of Peoria, Ill.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Edith Butler and Lorna Muehling, and a brother, Frank.

A memorial has been established to the Brule Ambulance Squad.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Brule with the Rev. Phil Ewert officiating. Burial will be in the Brule Cemetery.

Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge.

Mary C. Mullikin
Mary C. Mullikin, 76, of North Platte died July 28, 2001, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 17, 1925, at Hutchinson, Kan., to Richard A. and Emma Lou Walters Dadisman. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Colorado Women's College before earning her bachelor's degree in speech pathology from Wichita (Kan.) State College. She was employed at the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita for a number of years.

On September 1, 1947, she married Walter R. Mullikin in Kansas. The couple moved to North Platte in 1954.

Mrs. Mullikin was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was instrumental in the opening of the North Platte Opportunity Center and was also a volunteer with the Senior Center's home-delivered meals.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Bill) Hogan of St. Louis and Deb (Doug) Wurl of North Platte; a son, Chuck (Kristi) of Omaha; a brother, Richard A. (Marian) Dadisman of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Anna (Ryan) McDowell, Peter Mullikin, Tere Hogan, and Brock, Jackie and Derek Wurl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Jack.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte with the Rev. Eric Meissner officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Richard Lee Murdock
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Former North Platte resident, Richard Murdock, 63, died of cancer at his home in Chula Vista, Calif., July 19, 2001.

The son of Lester "Lee" and Louella Purcell Murdock, he was born Feb. 20, 1938, in North Platte. He graduated in 1956 from North Platte High School and joined the Navy shortly after graduation.

On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Jean Anne Hegg in Chula Vista. He retired from the Navy after 23 years of service as a radio specialist with several tours in Vietnam.

After retirement, Mr. Murdock attended college and became an accountant, working with the Navy Public Works for the next 15 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Pamela (Charlie) Ramer of Antigo, Wis., and Deborah (Clayton) Tangen of Sacramento; two sisters, Judy (Bob) Rea of Boulder, Colo., and Peggy Luzar of Evansville, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

Services were July 23, 2001, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Chula Vista. Burial with full military honors was in Glen Abbey Memorial Park.

Humphrey Mortuary of Chula Vista was in charge.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge.

Cora L. Kinnan
COZAD - Cora Kinnan, 88, of Cozad, died July 27, 2001, at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad.

She was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Cozad to Charles and Alice Chittenden Berryman. Her family homesteaded in Arthur County and she graduated from Arthur High School in 1931. She attended Kearney State Teacher's College and later taught in Arthur County.

On Aug. 29, 1935, she married Earl Kinnan. They lived on their farm southwest of Cozad until 1967, when they moved to Cozad.

She was a member of the Church of Christ on Newell where she was active in the Missionary Group and Priscillas. She enjoyed playing the piano, embroidery work and growing African violets.

Survivors include a son, Dale (Diane) of Cozad; a brother, Wilton "Bud" (Alice) Berryman of Ogallala; three grandchildren, Brad (Lisa), Becky (Tim) Gibbens, and Megan; and three great-granddaughters, Bailey and Blaire Gibbens and Laura Kinnan.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990.

A memorial has been established in her memory.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ on Newell in Cozad, with Roger Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Cozad at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Hircock
MERNA - Donald Hugh Hircock, 80, of Merna, died July 25, 2001, at Jennie M. Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

He was born May 4, 1921, in Ames, Iowa, to William Ryan and Madge Gertrude Smith Hircock. At an early age, he moved with his family to Nebraska. He attended Sunshine country school near Merna and graduated from Merna High School with the Class of 1939.

Mr. Hircock served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to July 1943. After being discharged from the service, he returned to Custer County to help his father. Mr. Hircock was involved in dairy farming and agriculture in the Ortello Valley community and also near Sargent. He also worked in dairy sales. In 1977, he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked in the carpet department at Sears. He returned to Merna in 1987.

Mr. Hircock had been a member of the Ortello Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as worshipful master while living in Orland, Calif.

Survivors include three sisters, Louise Seevers of Anselmo, Della Narducci of Sacramento, Calif., and Dwana Poland of San Bruno, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Francis, and Raymond, and two sisters, Lucille Hircock and Ruby Durham.

Memorials have been established to the Cliff Cemetery Fund and to the Merna Rescue Unit.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, with the Rev. Doug Jones officiating.

Services will also include Masonic rites. Burial with military rites will be in the Cliff Cemetery with Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary.

Walter G. Hecox
GOTHENBURG — Walter G. Hecox, 89, of Gothenburg, died July 28, 2001, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1912, in Gothenburg, to Albert Charles and Helen G. Curtis Hecox. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1930 and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year. Mr. Hecox farmed south of Gothenburg his entire life, retiring in 1974.

On Oct. 14, 1940, in Gothenburg, he married Alice K. Aden in Gothenburg.

Mr. Hecox restored World War II airplanes with the Confederate Air Force. He also enjoyed restoring old cars, and other projects were his passion. He enjoyed flying for many years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Gothenburg, the Confederate Air Force, was a Pony Express Ride aprticipant, and a 75-year member of the Banner Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Gothenburg; a daughter, Elizabeth (Elliot) Johnson of Laramie, Wyo.; a son, James (Marsha) Hecox of Gothenburg; a sister, Mildred Anderson of Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Erich) Hohl of Lincoln, Eric Johnson of Littleton, John Hecox of Gothenburg, and Karna (Cary) Hamilton of Memphis, Tenn.; and one great-granddaughter, Dorian Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.

Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Senior Center, Banner Methodist Church, or the donor's choice.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Banner United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Bill Bicket officiating.

Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg.
