Elva M. Stuehm
LEXINGTON - Elva Stuehm of Lexington died July 31, 2001, at the Plum Creek Care Center. She was 92.

She was born May 25, 1909, at Persia, Iowa, to John and Lena Foje Ingwersen. In 1922, they moved to a farm near Ogallala.

On Aug. 15, 1929, she married Art Stuehm in Alamosa, Colo. They made their home on a farm north of Roscoe. In 1952, they moved to Smithfield and in 1963, they moved to Lexington.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington.

She enjoyed going to garage sales, playing cards and during her lifetime had made many quilts.

Mrs. Stuehm is survived by three sons, LaVerne (Virginia) of Smithfield, Ronald (Katherine) of Holdrege and Kenneth of Cozad; three sisters, Mabel White of Canoga Park, Calif., Leona Reimers of Ogallala and Velma Edwards of Bertrand; a brother, Erwin (Jewell) Ingwersen of Granada Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; a brother, John Ingwersen; and a daughter-in-law, Jane Stuehm.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with the Rev. Michael Gruhn officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Frances A. Trotter
BROKEN BOW - Frances A. Trotter, 91, of Broken Bow died July 30, 2001, in Broken Bow.

She was born June 28, 1910 in a dugout in Dewey County, Okla., to Lon D. and Effie Jane Kirkman Beverly.

In April 1928, she married H.J. "Bud" Trotter at Twin Falls, Idaho. They returned to Nebraska and they farmed together in Custer County for more than 69 years.

Mrs. Trotter is survived by three daughters, Beverly Jo'Ann (Ray) Petersen of Kearney, Bonnie Jean (Bob) Seeger of Johnson Lake and Donna "Doll" (Harry) Winbolt of Broken Bow; two sons, James (Virginia "Sis") of Arcadia and Frank (Dixie) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother, Elmer Beverly of California; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1998; her parents; a sister, Julia; and two brothers, Ark and James.

A memorial has been established for park benches for the community playground.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Steve Hick officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge.

Gerald Alexander
Gerald Alexander, 69, of North Platte died July 27, 2001, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1931, at Philadelphia. He grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from high school there. He then worked for a helicopter company for 10 years before moving to California, where he met his future wife.

In 1975, he married Evelyn Home in California. They lived in California for six years, then moved to Pennsylvania for six years before moving to North Platte. He did custodial work for the Cedar Bowl and then was employed at Sixth Street. He retired in 1994.

Mr. Alexander was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include a son, Mark (Nicole) of Fremont; and a brother, Doug, of Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by his wife in March 1986; and his parents.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Don Saathoff officiating.

The body was cremated. Those wishing to sign a memorial register may do so from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday at Odean Colonial Chapel and before the services at the church.

Orval C. Beman
Orval Claude Beman, 85, of North Platte died Aug. 1, 2001, at Linden Court.

He was born Sept. 17, 1915, to Abram P. and Eva Wiesner Beman at Merrick County. He was raised and attended school in Merrick County. He graduated from high school in Grand Island in 1934.

On Nov. 1, 1941, he married Isla Clausen in Aurora. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941, and was discharged in 1945. The couple moved to North Platte in 1946. He started work with Union Pacific Railroad in 1936 and retired in November 1978 as an engineer.

Mr. Beman was a member of the West End Chapel, the P.R. Halligan Post 163 of the American Legion, the Noel C. Donnigan Post 1504 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2839, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Union Pacific Oldtimers. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, swimming and golfing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth (Susie) Beman of North Platte and Richard of St. Louis; a brother, Vern Beman of North Platte; a granddaughter, Shelly (Sterling) Kovanda of Stapleton; a grandson, Kenneth (Michelle) Beman Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Willow Kovanda, Faith Beman and Blair and Patrick Delatte.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials are suggested to the West End Chapel or Great Plains Hospice.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the West End Chapel on the corner of Eighth and Augusta with the Rev. Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home and prior to service time at the church.

Zelma Gloy
GRANT - Zelma Gloy, 88, of rural Grant died Aug. 1, 2001, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

She was born May 16, 1913, at the family farm north of Grant to Charles and Anna Busch Pankonin. She attended Trinity Lutheran parochial school northwest of Grant and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1931.

On April 21, 1935, she married Harold Gloy. They lived their married lives at their farm northwest of Grant until she moved to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in April of this year.

Mrs. Gloy was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Grant View Extension Club and in 4-H while her sons were growing up.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Royston, Donald (Jorga) and Robert, all of rural Grant; two grandchildren, Brent and Kristen Gloy; and a sister, Hertha Forsyth of Broomfield, Colo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Pierce officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Gladys Keiser
GOTHENBURG - Gladys Keiser, 86, of Gothenburg died Aug. 1, 2001, at the Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.

She was born Aug. 28, 1914, to Fred and Anna Beatrice Griffith Duis northwest of Gothenburg.

On June 22, 1935, she married Edwin Franz Keiser at Christ Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. She taught school north of Farnam and at Valley School near Gothenburg for a number of years. She lived east of Gothenburg after her marriage and moved into Gothenburg in 1979.

Mrs. Keiser was a member of the American Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She helped at the Canteen in North Platte during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Willard (Laura) of Gothenburg and Robert (Elaine) of Gothenburg; a sister, Mildred Edwards of Bellingham, Wash.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tracey) Keiser of Happy Jack, Ariz., Tim (Shanna) Keiser of Gothenburg, Angie (Ron) Mannel of Gothenburg, Jim Keiser of Jackson, Wyo., and Pamela Aden of North Platte; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Beatrice; and a brother, George.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Wendy Ruetten officiating. Burial will be in the American Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Blase Memorial Chapel.

Daniel Lee Nafziger
WEST LINN, Ore. - Daniel Lee Nafziger, 69, of West Linn, Ore., husband of Marie Pascoe Garrick of North Platte, died July 27, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Spencer, S.D., the youngest of eight sons born to Chester and Elsie Nafziger. He graduated from St. Martin's Academy in hte Black Hills and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After five years of service, he joined the border patrol and was initally stationed in Arizona. He later was stationed in Texas, Florida, Idaho and Montana. After several years in Turner, Mont., he became a U.S. Customs Inspector and transferred to the Treasury Agency and was assigned to U.S. Customs in Portland, Ore., in 1971. He retired in 1987. He continued to provide part-time private investigative services to various agencies after retiring.

Mr. Nafziger married his high school sweetheart, Joulene Marie Roberts. During their marriage, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and the South Pacific, participating in the 1993 Oregon Trail Wagon Trail, living for several months in Australia and creating a large family of friends. She died in October 1999.

In August 2000, he married Marie Pascoe Garrick of North Platte. After returning from a three-month trip to Australia in March, they moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota where they planned to build a home in Hot Springs, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons, Douglas and David, both of Oregon; two daughters, Daniele aand Dana, both of Oregon; two stepchildren; four sisters; three brothers; a grandson; and six stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 14, 2001, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hot Springs, S.D., with the Rev. Peter Kovarik officiating.

Rudolph 'Rasty' Spanel
BROKEN BOW - Rudolph "Rasty" William Spanel, 98, of Broken Bow died Aug. 1, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 28, 1903, in a sod house east of Anselmo to Frank and Theresa Herman Spanel. He attended District 197 Bell School.

On Nov. 27, 1928, he married Agnus Cerny at Sargent. They farmed east of Anselmo. In 1967, they moved to West Point where he did handyman work and kept busy by helping farmers. They returned to Broken Bow in 1997.

Mr. Spanel was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Knight, and a past member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, painting, craft work and traveling the country.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mary Ann (Ivan) Coleman and Ruth (Darrell) Myers, all of Broken Bow and Leona (Dick) Graybeal of West Point; two sons, Hubert and Jerry (Ginger), all of Broken Bow; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Bradley Myers; a great-grandchild, Ryan Michael Stauffer; his parents; a sister, Ann Knight Showalter; and two brothers, Ernest and Frank Spanel.

Christian Wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at the St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with the Rev. Hubert Spanel officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.

Mildred 'Bobbi' Cook
WALLACE - Mildred "Bobbi" Cook, 88, of Wallace and lifelong resident of Lincoln County, died Aug. 27, 2001, at the Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte.

She was born May 31, 1913, in Perkins County, the second daughter of George and Blanche Brownlee Gregg. She attended school in Wallace and graduated from Grainton High School in 1931.

On June 20, 1931, she married Ralph K. Ogier in Julesburg, Colo. They farmed in the Wallace community until his death in April 1959. She lived in North Platte for several years before returning to Wallace to care for her parents.

On Aug. 3, 1975, she married Vernon Cook. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1988.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wallace, the Happy Circle Extension Club, the North Platte Order of PWP and was a 4-H leader. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Georgia (George "Butch") Sloan of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Peggy Lou Carlson of North Platte; a son, Garth (Bethel) Ogier of Wallace; two sisters, Gretchen Mefford of Grant and Rose Marie Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, Joe Chrisman and Lloyd Cornelius, both of Wallace; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Myrrl and Beverly; a brother, George Ronald; and two great-granddaughters.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Wallace with the Revs. Jack Kilgore and Buck Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial will be in the Morning View Cemetery in Wallace.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.
