Arline Louise Kotschwar
McCOOK - Arline Louise Kotschwar, 81, died Aug. 25, 2001, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Sept. 27, 1919, in North Platte to Burt E. and Edith M. Calhoun Phelps. She graduated from North Platte High School in 1937.

On Nov. 1, 1941, she married Chester James Kotschwar in North Platte.

Mrs. Kotschwar was a member of the Culbertson Legion Auxiliary, serving as an officer for many years. She was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Culbertson, United Methodist Women and Jolly Janes Extension Club. She made more than 150 quilts for the Babies In Need.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Don) Brooks of Omaha; a son, Jerry (Ramona) of Culbertson; a sister, Betty (Darrell) Payne of Yoncalla, Ore.; two brothers, Marvin Phelps of Callaway and Glen (Alice) Phelps of North Platte; four grandchildren, Joseph (Janice) Kotschwar of Bartley, Julie Kotschwar of Culbertson, and Ryan and Lindsay Traphagan of Chadron; and six great-grandchildren, Carissa, Lucas, Amber, Elexa, Brock and Taylor.

Mrs. Kotschwar was preceded in death by her husband, Chester, in 1988; a daughter, Kathy Traphagan; her parents; and a half-brother, Garold Phelps.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Daniel Spearow officiating. Burial will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Daniel E. Sears
STERLING - Daniel E. "Dan" Sears of Sterling, brother of Rosalie Halvorsen of North Platte, died of an apparent heart attack Aug. 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City. He was 48.

He was born Jan. 2, 1953, at Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1970. He earned an associate's degree from Western Iowa Technical College and completed the RCA Electronics Program. He lived in Sioux City.

On April 4, 1980, he married Susan Morielli. They later divorced.

In Sioux City, he worked several years for MCI and taught electronics at Western Iowa Technical College. He was also a volunteer on the Woodbury County Iowa Emergency Rescue Squad. In 1991, he moved to Lincoln and began as an electronic technician for Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad.

On Sept. 30, 1995, he married Sandi Corbitt at Coryell Park in Brock. They lived southeast of Sterling.

Mr. Sears was a member of the Doeden Country Dancers of Lincoln and enjoyed inventing electronic devices and working with computers.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi Corbitt-Sears; a daughter, Sarah Sears, and a son, Ben Sears, both of Sioux City; two stepsons, Ian Melroy of Portland, Ore., and Adam Melroy of Omaha and his finance, Lana Heim; his mother, Hazel (Jay) Frazeur of Sioux City; three sisters, Judi (Bob) Miller of Sioux City, Rosalie (Leo) Halvorsen of North Platte, and Cheri (Nels) Fanciullo of Walla Walla, Wash.; his mother-in-law, Vonnie (Stanley) Jensen of Minden; his father-in-law, Tom (Dee) Corbitt of Florida; a brother-in-law, Brent (Carol) Jensen of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Sears, and his grandparents.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Sterling, with the Rev. Michael Patzloff officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 10 a.m. Friday at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home in Sterling and for one hour prior to services on Friday.

Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling is in charge.

Levi S. Anderson Jr.
Levi Swan Anderson Jr., 77, of North Platte died Aug. 20, 2001, at Linden Court in North Platte.

He was born March 24, 1924, to Levi S. and Dasie Ammon Anderson at O'Fallons. He attended school at North Platte.

On Sept. 14, 1946, he married Joan Lamplaugh at North Platte.
He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to North Platte where he was involved with his family in a salvage yard and farming and ranching. He started Anderson Sand and Gravel with his brother in 1955 with plants at Paxton, Sutherland and Scottsbluff. He also owned and operated Andy's Pub in North Platte where he started the military picture display.

Mr. Anderson was a member of First Christian Church, and a former member of the P.R. Halligan Post 163 of the American Legion, BPO Elks Lodge 985, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 551 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2839.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda (Eddie) Johnston of North Platte and Sherry (Richard) Keuter of Centerville, Ohio; two sons, Levi (Joyce) of North Platte and Rick (Susan) of Paxton; a brother, Glenn (Vickie) Anderson of Paxton; 10 grandchildren, Devin and Heidi Weitzel, Justy Lindell, Erik, Erin, Seth, Riley and Lucas Anderson and Rick and Ryan Keuter; three great-grandchildren, Simone and Moriah Lindell and Joseph Anderson.

A memorial was established.

Memorial services were Aug. 24, 2001, at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Tom Dillon officiating. Inurnment was in the North Platte Cemetery, with military honors by Paxton veterans' organizations.

Adams & Swanson Funeral Home was in charge.

Orval L. Campbell
GOTHENBURG - Orval Campbell, 76, died Aug. 27, 2001, at his home in Gothenburg.

He was born March 12, 1925, at Minatare to Elvin and Rosa Vogt Campbell. He graduated from Gothenburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After his discharge, he returned to Gothenburg where he worked in the construction of metal buildings and numerous carpentry projects. He also worked for several years in the hay mills and for a short time as a mail carrier. His favorite pastime was fishing.

He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his brother, James (Evelyn) of Kearney; and a special neighbor, Rose Miller and her family of Gothenburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell with military honors.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Mildred 'Bobbi' Cook
WALLACE - Mildred "Bobbi" Cook, 88, longtime resident of the Wallace community died Aug. 27, 2001, at the Centennial Park Retirement in North Platte.

She was born May 31, 1913, in eastern Perkins County to George and Blanche Brownlee Gregg. She attended school in Wallace and later graduated from Grainton High School in 1931.

On June 20, 1931, she married Ralph Ogier in Julesburg, Colo.

They farmed in the Wallace community until his death in 1959.

She lived in North Platte for several years before returning to Wallace to care for her parents.

On Aug. 3, 1975, she married Vernon Cook. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church, the Happy Circle Extension Club, the North Platte Order of PWP and was a 4-H leader.

Survivors include two daughters, Georgia (Butch) Sloan of Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Peggy Lou Carlson of North Platte; a son, Garth (Bethel) Ogier of Wallace; two brothers-in-law, Joe Chrisman and Lloyd Cornelius, both of Wallace; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wallace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge.

Evelyn Margaret Gentner
ADELPHI, Md. - Evelyn Margaret Gifford Gentner, 80, of Adelphi, Md., formerly of the Paxton area, died Aug. 22, 2001, at a hospital in Georgetown after a brief illness.

She was born July 9, 1921, the oldest child born to Ray and Clara Tilse Gifford. She attended grade school at District 40 and graduated from Paxton High School in 1939. From 1943 to 1945, she served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Fla., and Hawaii. Following her career in the U.S. Navy, she attended school at Indianapolis, Ind., and while attending George Washington University in Washington, D.C., she met Walt Gentner.

On July 30, 1948, she married Walt Gentner in Washington, D.C. She worked at Reed Research and later at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Bethesda, Md. After retiring in 1986, they traveled to many countries.

Mrs. Gentner is survived by her husband; a sister, Lila (Arnie) Lewis of Columbus; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Gifford of Boise, Idaho, June Gifford of Limon, Colo., and Margaret Gifford of Paxton; two brothers, Joe (Judy) and John (Hazel) Gifford, all of Paxton; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Eldon "Bus" Jim, and Eben Gifford; twin siblings that died at birth; a niece; a nephew, and several aunts and uncles.

The body was cremated. Services were held Aug. 28, 2001, at the Borgwart Funeral Home in Beltsville, Md. A family memorial is planned for Sept. 2, 2001, at 7 p.m. in the Paxton Cemetery.

Helen I. Kleckner
Helen Irene Kleckner, 79, died Aug. 27, 2001, at her home in North Platte.

She was born Nov. 21, 1921, at Staunton, Okla., to Charlie Hill and Lea Smith Peden. She graduated from Healdton (Okla.) High School and went to work for General Mills in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She and her older sister, "Tommie," went to San Diego and worked during World War II for Consolidated Aircraft. She met the man she would marry there. On April 29, 1945, she married Beryl Wayne Kleckner at Yuma, Ariz.

They finished work for Consolidated Aircraft and moved to Zillah, Wash. In 1950, they moved to North Platte, where she worked for Snyder's Grocery. She later was a bookkeeper for 20 years for Sidles Company until she retired because of a medical disability.

In 1973, they moved to Alvord, Texas. In 1982, they moved to Granger, Wash., and in November 1994, they moved back to North Platte.

Mrs. Kleckner made more than 70 quilts and afghans, giving them to family and friends. She enjoyed making ceramics, crocheting, sewing and knitting. She enjoyed the company and fellowship of other people. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving her is her husband; a son, Charles (Sharon) of North Platte; four sisters, Jessie Whitt and Juanita Altom, both of Healdton, Inez Wright of Wilson, Okla., and Pat Wood of Ardmore, Okla.; three granddaughters, Sarah Kleckner and Rebecca (David) Hardenbergh, both of Omaha, and Laurel Kleckner of North Platte; a great-grandson, Mitchell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Otella "Tommie" Monte and an infant sister; and two brothers, Charles and Henry Peden.

Memorials may be given to the Senior Center or the donor's choice.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ with Ned Cooper and Haun Kite officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel and the casket will be open following services at the church Friday.

Odean Colonial Chapel is in charge.
