Gloria G. Weis

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Gloria G. Weis, 52, of Ft. Laramie, Wyo., died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999 at the Ft. Laramie Presbyterian Church with Reverend Judith Cuthbertson officiating. Memorials directed to the family c/o Boyd Oliver at RR 1, Box 54, Lingle, Wyo. 82223 would be greatly appreciated by the family. Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on July 29, 1945, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Arnold E. and Ruby (Shirley) Logan. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Sunrise, Wyo. She lived there until she married Wayne Oliver and they were later divorced. She moved to Gillette in 1976 where she worked as a bartender. In 1978 she married Carl Weis. The couple moved to Ft. Laramie in 1985 where she bartended and owned and operated a craft shop. She also sold Avon in her spare time. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose while living in Gillette and while in Ft. Laramie she belonged to the Business Association.

She is survived by her son Boyd Oliver of Ft. Laramie; three daughters, Cymbra and her husband John Hobbs of Mitchell, Pamela McEwen of Detroit, Mich., Tamela Bradshaw of Westland, Mich.; six grandchildren; two brothers Bob Grooms and his wife Dorothy of Napa, Calif., Gordon Logan and his wife Heidi of Ft. Laramie, Wyo.; and one sister Nyla Romero and her husband Fran of Worland, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Shirley Troupe and her second husband, Carl Weis.

Evelyn D. Worth

DALTON — Evelyn D. Worth, 70, of Dalton passed away at her home early Saturday morning, Nov. 13, 1999. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dalton. Friends may stop at the funeral home on Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made in care of the church or the Dalton Fire and Rescue. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 9, 1929, at North Platte, the daughter of Herbert Milton and Esther Omina (Smith) Klinge. At the age of two, she moved with her family to a farm west of Gurley. She attended the Bunker Hill School before moving to a farm east of Dalton. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1948.

On August 20, 1950, Evelyn was united in marriage at the Trinity Lutheran Church to her high school sweetheart, Jack LaVern Worth. Upon Jack’s entry into the service, Evelyn worked in Bridgeport. When her husband returned home, they moved to Kimball where she worked at several different Kimball businesses. In 1978, they moved west of Dalton.

She has been very active in her church, she was a past member of the Regional West Medical Center Hospice Program, the Dalton Garden Club, the West Dalton Club, and the DU CUM Club.

She is survived by her husband Jack of Dalton; son Kip Worth and his wife Twyla of Dalton; sisters Vernie Miller and her husband Don of Sunol, and Delores Whornham and her husband Frank of Everett, Wash.; brothers Herb Klinge and his wife Joyce of Three Lakes, Wis., and Doug Klinge; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother.

Rose Estes

TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Rose Estes, 84, of Torrington, Wyo., died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Torrington Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the First United Church of Christ in Torrington with Reverend Thomas Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call at the Colyer Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and the casket will be open prior to the service. The family would appreciate that memorials be directed to either the First United Church of Christ in Torrington or to the "Leukemia Team" for the Cancer Marathon c/o 403 S. 4th, Douglas, Wyo. 82633. The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born May 16, 1915, in Hemmingford, Neb., the daughter of Aaron and Minnie (Thompson) Moll. She grew up and attended school at Hemmingford. She married Fay Estes in Scottsbluff, Neb., where they operated a fruit stand. They moved to Torrington in 1945, and they operated another fruit stand on the west highway next to the Z&W Mill.

She enjoyed sewing, baking and Bingo. She enjoyed her family and visiting with friends. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and the Friendly Society. She belonged to the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by three daughters and their spouses Marlene and Leo Herdt and Judy and Ed Burns, all of Torrington; Donna and Jerry Stroud of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sons Larry Estes of Phoenix, Ariz., and Vernon and his wife Judy Estes of Basin, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a twin sister Bell Yarnell, and two brothers Ted and Ken Moll.

Juana De Dios ‘Juanita’ (Leal) Hinojos

SCOTTSBLUFF - Juana De Dios ‘Juanita’ (Leal) Hinojos, 70, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital in Denver. Funeral Services will take place in El Paso, Texas.

She was born May 10, 1929, in Balleza, Chihuahua, Mexico. She received her schooling in Mexico and moved with her family to Scottsbluff in 1978.

She is survived by husband Pedro R. Leal; children Gloria and husband Fernando Sanchez of Leongeto, Mexico; Jesus and wife Esperanza Leal of Juarez, Mexico; Luis and wife Maria of Scottsbluff; Ismael Leal of Portland, Ore.; Pedro and wife Blanca of Juarez, Mexico; Alfonso and wife Vira of Scottsbluff; Hector and wife Aleida of Alliance; Veronica and husband Octavio Sanchez of Thorton, Colo.; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and one granddaughter.

Lula K. Reynolds

SCOTTSBLUFF - Lula K. Reynolds, 65, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at The Jolliffe Funeral Home here.

Donna Mae Walker Sterkel

TORRINGTON, Wyo. - Donna Mae Walker Sterkel, 62, of Torrington, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle, Wyo., with the Reverend Charles Hyatt officiating. The casket will be closed. Memorials may be directed to the Special Touch Program at Community Hospital in Torrington.

The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 20, 1937, in Torrington, Wyo., the daughter of Robert and Faye (Nida) Walker. She grew up and attended school at Lingle; graduating from Lingle High School in 1955. She later attended Cosmetology school in Cheyenne. She worked in Casper for a short time and then returned to Torrington where she continued to work in cosmetology. She later built and operated the "Downtown Beauty Salon."

She was affiliated with the Torrington Baptist Tabernacle.

She is survived by her mother Faye Walker of Torrington; aunts Marian McElhaney of Torrington; Helen Vandel of Denver, Colo.; a special friend Duane Horner of Torrington and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Donald C. Uhrich

GERING - Donald C. Uhrich, 72, of Gering, died Feb. 24, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff, with Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering with military rites by American Legion Post #36 of Gering. Memorials have been established to Salem Congregational Church or to the donor’s choice.

Friends may sign the register book at Gering Memorial Chapel from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be closed.

He was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Gering to Clarence and Elizabeth (Miller) Uhrich. He attended Gering schools and graduated from Gering High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Navy April 14, 1945, where he served with the Seabees in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 20, 1946. He attended Chadron State College for three years where he was a basketball standout for the Chadron Eagles Basketball team. He married Eileen Eurich Sept. 20, 1950, in Scottsbluff.

He worked for Gering Plumbing and Heating for several years and in 1982 became self-employed.

He was a member of Salem Congregational Church, American Legion Post #36, Elks Lodge #1367, North Platte Valley Historical Association and a past member of the City of Gering Board of Adjustment.

Survivors include his wife Eileen, children and their spouses Janis Lyn and Kenneth Roth of Omaha, Jeffrey Scott and Diana Uhrich of Lewellen, and Jill Elizabeth and Luke Traynowicz of Lincoln; grandchildren Amber and her husband T.J. Heinert of Omaha, Leslie and Katie Roth of Omaha, and Grant and Paige Traynowicz of Lincoln; and great-granddaughter Grace Noelle Heinert.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rolland A. Van Hausen

SCOTTSBLUFF - Rolland A. Van Hausen, 72, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Henry Rick Briones

SCOTTSBLUFF - Henry Rick Briones, 49, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Colorado University Hospital in Denver. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Highland Olinger Cemetery in Northglenn, Colo. A Rosary was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn on Monday evening.

He was born Dec. 10, 1951, in Scottsbluff. He attended Barber College in Denver. He is the father of Isreal, Ricky, and Richard of Denver.

He is survived by parents Dave and Bertha Briones Sr. of Scottsbluff; sisters Olga and Robert Blanco of Gering, Stella and Manuel Urdiales of Denver; brothers Roy and Maria Briones of Denver, David and Connie Briones III of Gering; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by brother Dave Briones Jr., cousin Rodney Briones, Raymond Briones; aunt Carmen Briones-Rodriquez; and Briones grandparents.

Wanda Lee Cartwright

DENVER - Wanda Lee Cartwright, 65, of Denver, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Denver. A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at First Covenant Church, 8390 E. Hampden Ave., Denver. She will be cremated at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Scottsbluff, Neb., at a later date.

Family Funeral Care in Denver is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed in care of Tracy Cartwright, 3532 N. 65th Ave., Denver, Colo. 80221.

She was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Scottsbluff, Neb. She married Ira Lee Cartwright in 1958, in Mitchell, S.D.

She was publisher/editor of "Singles Network" Newspaper. She was a musician in school and in the community.

She is survived by her daughter Pamela Dennis, son Tracy Cartwright, and granddaugther Mellisa Aguilar, all of Denver. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Emma Lou Davis

SCOTTSBLUFF - Emma Lou Davis, 89, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at her home. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at The Scottsbluff Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Frank Tochterman officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery here. Memorials may be made to the church. Friends who wish may call at The Jolliffe Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Noon and at the funeral service.

She was born July 26, 1910, on a homestead northeast of Scottsbluff, to Louis and Grace (White) Davis. At a young age she moved with her family to Rand, Colorado. She later moved to Grand Island, Neb. where she attended elementary school at the Seventh Day Adventist church school. She attended high school at the Shelton Academy in Shelton, Neb. and graduated with the class of 1929. She attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb., for a time, and in 1930, she married Dave Price in Bridgeport, Neb. She and her husband moved to the East Coast to work in photography and they lived there for 10 years. The couple divorced and Emma Lou returned to Scottsbluff in 1940. She worked full and part time for Downey’s Studio as a photographer, negative artist, and receptionist until her retirement in 1989. Emma Lou spent many years caring for her father and her uncle at home.

She was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was baptized in 1980 by Pastor Frank Tochterman. She had a beautiful voice and in earlier years, she sang with choirs at the Shelton Academy and at Union College.

She is survived by cousins Marllene Goodon of Scottsbluff, who was also her caregiver, Phillis Franklin of Carrollton, Ky., Carolyn Brossfield of Taylor Mill, Ky., Dr. Emma Long of Elkhart, Ind., Deloris Henshaw of San Diego, Calif., John Coe of Hurricane, W.V., Jack Morrill of Morrill, Jean Frazier of Arizona and Dr. J. Paul Shively of Napa, Calif.; special friends Jim and Mona Downey of Scottsbluff and their three sons, Doug, Tom and Mike, and Fred Whitney of Lakewood, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernadine Emma Detweiler

COZAD - Bernadine Emma Detweiler, 64, of Cozad, Neb., died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad. Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Charles Underhill officiating. Friends who wish may call at The Jolliffe Funeral Home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon.

She was born Oct. 25, 1935, at Sargent, Neb., to Raymond Oscar and Marie Louise (Gilligan) Troxel. She grew up in Wyoming and in the Mitchell, Neb., area. She married Howard Detweiler in 1951 at Scottsbluff, where they made their home. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and knitting. She had been a member of the First Church of God in Scottsbluff.

She is survived by son Donald Detweiler of Brock, Neb.; daughter Darlene Emma Kraus of Melrose, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Sara Troxel of Knightdale, N.C. and Carl and Ruby Troxel of Mitchell, Neb.; sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara and Henry Vedder of Wallace, Neb., Carol Graham of Alaska, Wanda and Robert Giffin of Coalinga, Calif., Avalon and Norman Biederman of Boca Raton, Fla., Roberta Lewis of Arkansas City, Kan., and Rosemary Edwards of Coalinga, Calif.; and granddaughter Stephanie and husband Mike Apple of Auburn, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clyde, Tom, George, Robert and John Troxel and sisters Betty Clark and Amy Sparks.

Mary Agnes Foster (Turner)(Thewlis) Dunlap

CRAWFORD — Mary Agnes Foster (Turner)(Thewlis) Dunlap, 94, of Crawford, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at The Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison with The Reverend Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford was in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be in the Auld Kirk Cemetery at Almonte, Ontario, Canada, at a later date.

Memorials are established to the Crawford Ambulance Fund, or Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Neb., or the Harrison Ambulance Fund or The Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison. Memorials may be sent in care of the Security Bank, P.O. Box 216, Harrison, Neb. 69346.

She was born June 28, 1905, at her parents home, where she was also baptized, in Ramsey Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were John H. and Agnes (McIlraith) Turner.

She attended Appleton S.S. #11 public school in Appleton, Ontario, and graduated from Almonte High School in 1921. She then attended nursing school, graduating form Ottawa Civic Hospital in 1924, and matriculated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, in 1928 with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

Following her education, she was a Nursing Instructress at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, before becoming Nursing Instructress at Lamont Hospital in Lamont, Alberta, Canada.

On Sept. 19, 1936, she married John H. Thewlis. To this union were born two children, Anne and Ina. John died on July 11, 1941. In August, 1944, Mary and her two children moved to Sioux County, Neb., arriving in Lusk, Wyo., on the "Galloping Goose." She then married Leo Dunlap on Aug. 24, 1944. They made their home on a ranch north of Harrison, Neb., known now as the Joe Falkenburg South Ranch. After her marriage, she kept herself busy with nursing, as she served as the Sioux County School nurse, which included implementing the annual health physicals; served as rodeo nurse; 4-H camp nurse; as well as doing relief nursing in Lusk, Wyo., Edgemont, S.D., and Crawford, Neb. She also served as the Sioux County Ag Hall Superintendent for at least 15 years, was a 4-H leader, and taught First Aid classes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

In 1947, she became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States of America. She was an American National Red Cross Nurse in 1950.

In August, 1948, she and her husband, Leo, adopted two sons, Terry and Jerry Dunlap. In May, 1973, the couple retired and moved to Crawford. Leo died on July 3, 1991. While living in Crawford, she remained active in the community. She was a volunteer at Ponderosa Villa, a volunteer with R.S.V.P., receiving a certificate for contributing over 2100 hours of service. She was a member of the Crawford Congregational Church, where she served as a member of the Diaconate, and Flower lady, as well as Secretary/Treasurer for the women’s circle, and helping with Church Fundraising activities. When her health deteriorated to the point that she was unable to practice nursing, she did private duty nursing, often sitting with people who were ill or dying at the Crawford Hospital, Ponderosa Villa or the Niobrara County Hospital in Lusk, Wyo.

During her free time, she enjoyed knitting, art, needlework, crocheting, reading, cooking and music. She quilted baby quilts, and embroidered two quilts of the United States, one with the State birds and one with the State flowers, and made an afghan for each member of her family. She was also afforded the opportunity to take a few trips to her homeland, Canada. She moved to Ponderosa Villa on Feb. 1, 1998.

She was a lifetime member of the Ottawa Civic Hospital Alumnae.

She leaves to mourn her daughters Anne (Thewlis) Quintard of Harrison, Ina Glaubius of Wisner; sons Terry and wife Janet Dunlap of North Platte, Jerry and wife Lovilla Dunlap of Lowell, Ark.; 10 grandchildren Monique (Bradshaw) Quintard, Rolisa Lewis, Mark Glaubius, Michael Glaubius, Marijean Peterson, Rebecca Dunlap-Morton, Rachel Dunlap, Allan Dunlap, Jennifer Dunlap, Luke Dunlap; nine great-grandchildren Etelka "Teli" Bradshaw, Tyler and Spencer Lewis, Zachary and Alexander Glaubius, Sophie Glaubius, Gabe Morton, Melissa Hotell and Barry Western; two great-great-granddaughters Lauren Rae Hotell and Emily Michelle Hotell; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; three brothers Ross Turner, Cecil Turner, J.M. Turner; one sister Anna Turner and two sons-in-law Rolland Quintard and Keith Glaubius.
