Harold A. Keener
MARSLAND — Harold A. Keener, 69, of Marsland, Neb., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 13, 2000, at the family ranch. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2000 at the Sioux County High School in Harrison, with Pastors Matt Parker and Scott Mathis officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff following the service. Friends may call at the mortuary from 9 a.m to 7 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials were established to the Harrison Bible Church Building fund and the Harrison Ambulance Unit. Jones Mortuary of Mitchell is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on October 28, 1930, in Agate, Neb., to Vernon M. and Elizabeth J. (Rohde) Keener. He received his education in Sioux County, Mitchell, and Victory Hill. He attended Scottsbluff High in his junior year and graduated from Sunflower in 1948. He married Leona Schultz on June 11, 1953, in Harrisburg. They made their first home on the family ranch where he developed several farms, a feedlot, and raised Angus cows and calves.

He served as a 4-H leader, a member of rural school boards and the local election board. He was a member of the Mitchell Odd Fellows where he had received his 30 year jewel. In May, he was re-elected to a fourth term as Sioux County Commissioner. He was past president of the NACO association. Other organizations includes PADD, board member of the Development of Human Resources, and the Area’s Juvenile Detention Board. He was also a member of the Harrison Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; son, Kenneth Keener and wife, Linda, and their children, Amanda, Bobbi Jean, and Joseph; son, David Keener and wife, Kris, and their children, Alisa and Michelle; daughter, Elizabeth Keener and her children, Rebekah, Robert and Joshuah; daughter, Sue Keener; sister-in-law, Audrey Keener; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and John Kreman; and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Vernon M. Keener, and sisters, Virginia Norine and Lena Louise Gable.

Kenneth Craig Norman
MORRILL — Kenneth Craig Norman, 68, died July 22, 2000, at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Bountiful, Utah. A graveside memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill.

He was born November 3, 1932, to George Norman and Fern Craig Norman Stewart. He graduated from Morrill High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his half-brother, Charles Cressy of Chadron.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis L. Struempler
ALLIANCE — Dennis L. Struempler, 53, of Alliance, died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. (CST) Thursday, August 17, 2000, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, with Reverend Robert Strawn officiating. Private burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery southwest of Oconto. Friends and family may sign a register book at Govier Brothers Mortuary from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

He was born August 31, 1946, in Lexington, Neb., to Henry and Arlene (Knispel) Struempler. He was baptized at Buffalo Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Broken Bow. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1964, and served in the Army for two years. He was married to Kathy Patterson and two sons were born to this union. He was employed working in the irrigation well business for many years including Sargent Irrigation, Layne Western, Grosch Irrigation, and at the time of his death he was employed for Rasmussen Irrigation in Alliance.

He enjoyed the sport of rodeo and was an avid fan of Professional Bull Riding. He also cherished the time he was able to spend with his grandson, Braeden.

He is survived by his two sons, Scott Struempler and wife, Chris, of Gering, and Erick Struempler of Gering; grandson, Braeden Struempler; special friend, Karen Baumann of Gering, and her children, Tisha and Todd; parents, Henry and Arlene Struempler of Berwyn; sisters, Sheryl Taylor and husband, Rex, of Broken Bow, Debra Rapp and husband, Gail, of Broken Bow, and Lana Lymber and husband, Jim, of Broken Bow; nieces and nephews, Pamela, Carrie, and Matthew Taylor, Darin and Trenton Rapp, and Travis and Troy Lymber; and grandmother, Clara Knispel of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by an infant nephew, Galen Rapp; and grandparents, Fritz Sr. and Minnie Struempler, and William Knispel.

Martha Wagner
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Martha Wagner, 88, of Torrington, Wyo., died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at the Goshen Care Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lingle, Wyo. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. The casket will be open after the service. Memorials may be directed to the Torrington Seventh Day Adventist Church. The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 5, 1912, in Albert, Kan., to Jacob and Katherine (Yost) Hergert. When she was abut a few months old, the family moved west of Lingle, Wyo., where they homesteaded and she grew up. She attended school in Lingle, and worked on the family farm. She married Ted Wagner on November 20, 1932, in Lingle, Wyo., and the couple farmed near there until 1940, when they moved and briefly farmed in Torrington. Then in 1944, they purchased a farm near Veteran, Wyo. They retired in 1971, and moved back to Torrington, Wyo. She entered the Goshen Care Center in 1996.

She loved flowers and gardening. She had a kind heart and not only took care of her parents, but she cared for other people as well. She was a Charter Member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Torrington.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Lamoine Pearson of Loveland, Colo., and Violet and Roy McCain of Lincoln; a sister, Clara Greenwald of Torrington, Wyo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Emma Barnhart, and two brothers, Jake and Elmer Hergert.

Robert L. Achen
SIDNEY — Robert Lee Achen, 56, of Sidney, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000, at the Gehrig & Son Funeral Home in Sidney, with Rev. Tom Jacobsen of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born February 26, 1944, in Brittan, S.D., to Alvin and Elna (Lini) Achen. He attended the Brittan schools. During high school, he was involved in football, basketball and track, and was a member of the Glee Club and also sang in the choir. He graduated from the Brittan High School in 1963. On April 4, 1965, he was married to Sylvia Ann Kullnat in Ellendale, N.D., shortly after being married they moved to Sidney, and have made their home here ever since. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad; he was an excellent mechanic and craftsman.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Achen of Sidney; two sons, Robert J. Achen of Scottsbluff, and Allen Achen of Sidney; two daughters, Leah Achen of Denver, Colo., and Cindy Lojek of Dalton; one brother, Gene Achen of Sidney; and two grandchildren.

John O. Cain
SCOTTSBLUFF — John O. Cain, 42, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, August 16, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2000, at West Lawn Cemetery with Father Paul Colling officiating. A vigil service will be 6 p.m. Sunday, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Cremation will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family.

He was born September 19, 1957, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Lawrence "Pat" and Maureen (Whyte) Cain. He attended St. Agnes Catholic School were he served as an altar boy and then Scottsbluff Jr. and Sr. High Schools.

He is survived by Janet Miller; children, Melissa and Patty Cain-Miller of Scottsbluff; children, Brandy and T.J. of Texas; grandchildren, Tarok of Texas, and Octavio "Baby O" of Scottsbluff; brothers, sisters and spouses, Sam and Snooks Cain of Guthrie, Okla., Mary and Paul Frederick of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Jackie and Larry Kuxhausen of Scottsbluff, Mike Cain, Sheila and Alphie Warfield, all of Anchorage, Alaska, Charlene and Bill Bernhardt, Pat Cain, and Katie Cain, all of Scottsbluff, and Tom and Karin Cain of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

LaVon Culek
KIMBALL — LaVon Culek, 75, of Kimball, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at the Kimball County Hospital. Recitation of the Rosary will be 6 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2000, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Friends are invited to join the family at the Kimball Eagles Club following the Rosary on Sunday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball, with the Reverend Francis Curran officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may visit the Cantrell Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. If friends wish memorial gifts may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice or to the Cancer Unit of Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 8, 1925, in Kimball, Neb., to Arthur and Olive (Dean) Bourlier. She grew up on a farm in Weld County, Colo. where she attended grade school at Larkspur Country School. She graduated from Kimball County High School in 1943. She then attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. to become a teacher, however, due to a teacher shortage during the war, she began teaching in Colorado before graduating. She was married to Joseph Culek in Kimball on September 3, 1946. They farmed south of Kimball where they raised their six children. She was a strong supporter of her community and family. She was a 4-H leader for 30 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Alter Society and was a former officer. For 33 years, she was a Charter Member of the Merry Workers Extension Club, and a Charter Member of the Eagles Auxiliary Club 3889 and filled the office of Secretary for the Auxiliary & Aerie for 20 years. She was a member of t he Board of Directors for the Kimball Coop Food Store for nine years. For many years she played in the Inmate Country Band. In 1971, she owned and operated the Flower Haven. The Farmer’s Day Committee awarded her with the Homemaker of the Year Award, and Joe and LaVon were also honored with the Parents of the Century Award given by the Kimball Wrestling Club for their many years of support. Her pastime was enjoying her children and grandchildren, gardening, and playing the organ.

She is survived by her husband, Joe of Kimball; her sons, Joe and (Connie) Culek, Charles and (Eileen) Culek, Jim and (Denise) Culek, all of Kimball, and Paul and (Judy) Culek of Farmington, N.M.; daughters, Linda and (Dan) McGinnis and Beth Johnson of Kimball; one sister Deana Rasmussen of Sterling, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and spouses; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Robert H. Gunderson
SCOTTSBLUFF — Robert H. Gunderson, 89, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Kimball, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial is at Kimball Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made either to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Junior Golf Program at Four Winds Golf Course. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Libbie Little Eagle
SCOTTSBLUFF — Violet Libbie Little Eagle, 57, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at her home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Georgia Belle Miller-Cline
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Georgia Belle Miller-Cline, 88, of Torrington, Wyo., died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at Torrington Community Hospital. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2000, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington, Wyo., with the Reverend Dale McQueen officiating. Cremation has already taken place. Memorials directed to Country Villa in Torrington would be appreciated by the family. The Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of arrangements.

She was born August 25, 1911, in Valentine, Neb., to George Logan and Orpha Belle (Keister) Miller. At a very young age, she moved with her family to Lusk, Wyo., where she grew up and attended school; graduating from Niobrara County High School in 1929. She then moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. and went to work as a Legal Secretary. She married Carl K. Cline on October 12, 1936, they were later divorced, and he is deceased. She returned to Lusk for several years and them moved to Denver, Colo. She went to work as an executive Secretary for Eli Lilly and Company where, in 1974, she received the President’s Award in recognition of her contribution toward the excellent sales record achieved by her district. She retired in 1976, and moved to Lingle, Wyo.

In recent years, she had volunteered as a tutor for children in Torrington schools. She loved writing poetry throughout her lifetime; she enjoyed raising chow dogs and silver Persian cats. She was a past member of the Niobrara Chapter #26 of Order of Eastern Star; and she was a member of Saint George’s Episcopal Church in Lusk, Wyo.

She is survived by her son, George R. Cline of Denver, Colo.; two nephews, Charles Thomas McLean of Denver, Colo., and John McLean and wife, Carylan, of Sheridan, Wyo.; two nieces and their spouses, Mary and Carl Burgess of Denver, Colo., and Carol and Bill Cooper of Belleville, Texas; five great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Andrew Petersen
GORDON — Andrew Petersen, 83, of Gordon, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2000, at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Chapel in Gordon, with the Rev. Tom Dykes officiating. Inurnment will be in the Gordon Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Donor’s Choice. Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

He was born October 20, 1916, in Cherry County, Neb., to Nels and Carrie (Anderson) Petersen. He married Bernice Hare on May 9, 1944, in Rushville. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He had ranched south of Gordon for over 50 years. He was also a self-taught musician who enjoyed playing for dances.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Gordon; daughters, Carmen Petersen and Carol Brakeman, both of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren; and sister, Inga Semans of Gordon.

Rev. Robert Emanuel Salstrom
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Rev. Robert E. Salstrom, 77, of Grand Forks, N.D., formerly of Nebraska, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, S.D. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, August 18, 2000, at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Grand Forks, S.D. Interment will be held at Cambridge Union Cemetery in Cambridge, Minn. The family prefers that memorials be designated to the Local Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship, or Dallas Theological Seminary. Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks is in charge of arrangements.

He was born November 22, 1922, in Minatare, Neb., to Albert and Agnes (Valinder) Salstrom. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska. He graduated from Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis, and Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. He served in the US Army in Europe during World War II. He married Marie Pegors in 1949 at Truman, Minn. She died in 1957. He married Clarice Sjodin on October 10, 1959, in Cambridge, Minn. He pastored churches in Hinckley, and Waseca, Minn. He also served as Associate Pastor of Faith Evangelical Free Church in Grand Forks. From 1971 to 1987, he was Director of Alumi and Church Relations at Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife returned to Grand Forks in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Clarice of Grand Forks, S.D.; daughters, Jean (Tom Diffenderfer of Lisbon, Portugal, and Ruth (Philip) Feist of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; brothers, Leroy (Molly) Salstrom of Fairmont, Minn., and Bryan Salstrom of Denver, Colo.; and sisters, Ruth (John) Henderson of Scottsbluff, Neb., Betty (Kenneth) Carlson of Ft. Collins, Colo., Helen (Richard) Stertz of Newport, Ore., Ruby Hendrickson of Estes Park, Colo., Marilyn (Bob) Spence of Newport, Ore., Doris Gregg of North Platte, Neb., and Shirley (Richard) Carter of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marie, and an infant son.

Steven Alton Thomas
ALDA, Neb. — Steven Alton Thomas, 43, of Alda, Neb., died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Graveside services are planned at a later date in Kansas City, Mo. Cremation was held at sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald A. Eaton
TORRINGTON — Ronald A. Eaton, 56, of Harvey, La., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at The Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Viewing hours at The Colyer Funeral Home will be on Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m. and at the service on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.

He was born on Feb. 14, 1944 at Torrington, the son of Ralph and Elsie Mae (McClun) Eaton. Ronald graduated from Veteran High School in 1962. On Oct. 17, 1964, he married Donna Doremus at Torrington. In 1976, the family moved to New Orleans, La. where Ronald worked as a federal grain inspector.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Randy and Jennifer Eaton of Watkinsville, Ga., a daughter and her husband, Sheron and Fritz Brown of Harvey, La., his mother, Elsie Mae Eaton and his sister Linda Eaton both of Torrington, three grandchildren, Ryan Eaton, Brandon and Tiffany Brown and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Harold M. Hill
SUMNER, Wash. — Harold M. Hill, 83, of Sumner, Wash., formerly of Banner County, died Saturday, September 30, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness. A private service will be held in Howard, Kan. Burial will be in Cresco Cemetery in Howard, Kan. Memorials are established to the family.

He was born April 17, 1917, in Severy, Kan., to A.O. and Nannie (McHenry) Hill. He attended Green Valley School in Elk County, Kan. He was married to Alvina Neth in 1938 in Kansas. When they were first married he farmed in Kansas. His early years he worked in the oil fields in Kimball, Banner and Cheyenne Counties. When he moved to Washington, he worked for a Pasquine Lumber Company and ran a small diary farm in Sumner, Wash. He enjoyed fishing and playing his banjo. He will be sadly missed by his family. He was a firm believer in Bible Truths and Jehovah God.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina of Sumner; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and LaDena Hill of Gering; two grandchildren, Checkers Hill of Melbeta, and LeAnn and Mike Trompke of Gering; three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Amber and Shane Trompke of Gering; four nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A.O. and Nannie Hill; sisters, Milla Huford and Mildred Dogget; brother Miles Hills, and two infant brothers.

Richard J. Kramer
DENVER, Colo. — Richard J. Kramer, 69, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, October 22, 2000, of lung cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2000, at Christ the King Cath-olic Church in Gering, with Fr. Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be in Fair-view Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be given to Panhandle Memorial Cancer Fund or to the Sisters of St. Francis at Marycrest, 2851 West 52nd Ave., Denver, CO 80200. Friends may call at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born June 17, 1931, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Robert B. and Oceana (Piester) Kramer. He attended Scottsbluff schools and graduated in 1949. He married Myrna Schaeffler on February 21, 1951, in Scottsbluff. He had a life-long career in the automobile business with his father and brothers, Raymond and Robert, as co-owners of Kramer Pontiac-Cadillac.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Cutright and husband, Bruce, of Hastings, and their children, David, Julie and Brian; son, Stan and wife, Jeanie, of Greenwood Village, Colo., and their children, Sheila, Lisa and Doug; son, Jerry and wife, Tami, of Westminster, Colo., and their children, Sean and Nick; father, Robert B. Kramer of Scottsbluff; sisters, Dorothy Pilkington and Delores Kath of Scottsbluff; one brother, Robert B. Kramer, Jr., of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Ray.

Kent David Jessen
KIMBALL — Kent David Jessen, 44, of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., died Monday, October 23, 2000, at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne, Wyo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2000, at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball, with Rev. Dwayne Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in Pine Bluffs Cemetery. Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 26, 2000, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Memorial gifts may be made to the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball or the United Methodists Women’s Club of Pine Bluffs. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of funeral arrangements.

He was born on November 22, 1955, in Kimball, Neb., to John and Edith Mae (Buss) Jessen. He graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1974. He attended college at LCCC. He was a professional racer of motorcycles and was National #18. He was also a member of the White Plate Flat Trackers. He farmed north of Pine Bluffs with his dad for many years. He had been baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Pine Bluffs.

He is survived by his son, Clint Jessen of Pine Bluffs; his mother, Edith Jessen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Jim Smith of Rapid City, S.D.; his fiancee, Carol Reid; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father John Jessen.
