Martha ‘Mrs. Buck’ Huston
SCOTTSBLUFF — Martha E. Huston, 80, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester, Minn. Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff with Rev. Bret Rickard and Rev. Jim Rowe officiating. Inurnment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church building fund. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born December 1, 1920 in Bradford, Ill., the daughter of Ross and Addie (Dawson) Pettit. She moved with her family to Sterling, Colo., when she was 6 years old and attended school there. She met the love of her life, G.O. “Buck” Huston, when she was 15. They were united in marriage in Fort Morgan, Colo., on June 27, 1939. The young couple moved to Denver, where they lived until Buck was called into the Army. Martha, Buck, and their two daughters moved to Scottsbluff in 1946. Buck had a successful excavation contracting business and Martha worked as his secretary, bookkeeper, receptionist and advisor along with being a mother and homemaker. She was an avid bowler and won numerous bowling league honors. She enjoyed growing hybrid roses, embroidery and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff.
She is survived by her husband G.O. “Buck” Huston of Scottsbluff; daughters and sons-in-law Sharon Louise and Jerry Ingram of Chadron and Charlotte Ann and David Staehr of Overland Park, Kan.; grandsons and their wives James and Connie Ingram, Andrew and Wendy Ingram, Lee and Shelley Staehr and Brett and Julie Staehr; great-grandchildren Erin, Lindsey, Grant and Sydney Staehr, Joshua, Jonathan, Caitlin, Caleb, Hannah and Rachel Ingram; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant sister, Ruth.

Patricia R. Tebbet
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Patricia R. Tebbet, 75, of Torrington, Wyo., died Friday, April 6, 2001 at the Torrington Community Hospital. Memorial services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel in Torrington. Cremation has already taken place. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Lung Association. Colyer Funeral Home of Torrington is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born August 25, 1925 in Casper, Wyo., the daughter of Thomas and Wilma (Webb) Rasmussen. She moved with her family to Mitchell, where she attended Sunflower School, later graduating from Mitchell High School. She married Rex Warren Tebbet in 1946, and the couple were later divorced. During their marriage, they lived in Torrington, where she took care of the home. She later moved to Ft. Laramie, Wyo., where she owned and operated a bar and an antique store. She sold the bar in 1985 and the antique shop in 1987. She then moved back to Torrington to take care of her mother. Following the death of her mother in 1997, Mrs. Tebbet moved into Bell Park Towers.
She is survived by her daughter Peggy Fullmer and her husband Jim of Modesto, Calif.; sons Richard of Ft. Laramie, Kent of Scottsbluff and Thomas and his wife Pat of Salt Lake City; sister Betty Carpenter of Newport, Ore.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty A. Mathews
BAYARD — Betty Ann Mathews, 75, of Bayard, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Hope Congregational Church in Bayard, with Pastor Ted Meter officiating. Burial will be in the Bayard Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Memorials may be given to the Bayard Rescue Unit. Jolliffe Funeral Home of Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.

She was born July 6, 1925, in Lincoln, Neb., to Henry B. and Anna (Brott) Amend. The family moved to the valley when she was four years old. She received her education in the Bayard schools. On May 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to George Mathews in Gering. She worked for the Bayard School District as a bus driver, janitor and part-time cook for over 20 years retiring in 1993. She enjoyed bingo, sewing, reading, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid supporter of the Bayard School events, attended many of her sons’ school events, and was a die hard New York Yankees fan. She was a member of Hope Congregational Church in Bayard.

She is survived by her sons Mark Mathews of St. Paul, Neb., and Rocky and his wife Jacki Mathews of Plattsmouth, Neb.; five grandchildren, Carissa of Cheyenne, Wyo., Emily, Andrew, John, and Annie of Plattsmouth; brothers, Bill Amend of Bayard, and Herman and his wife Edna Amend of Kearney; sisters Irene Derby of Umittila, Ore., and Marlene Eddington of Torrington, Wyo.; sister-in-law Darlene Amend of Kennewick, Wash.; brother-in-law Carl Reifschneider of Bayard; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George in 1986, son Kam Mathews, four brothers, Richard, Wilbur, Robert, and Harry, sister Helen Reifschneider, and infant sister Elmira.

Frances Arleen (Mills) Patterson
CLAREMONT, Calif. — Frances Arleen (Mills) Patterson, 81, of Claremont, Calif., passed away March 7, 2001. Private family memorial services will be held.

She was born August 2, 1919, in Kenesaw, Neb., to James and Hazel Mills. She lived and went to high school in Lyman, Neb. Frances was employed 29 years as a revenue accountant for Pacific Telephone in both Los Angeles and Alhambra, Calif. She retired in 1980, and for many years was active in the Pioneer Club.

Frances loved to sew and crochet and donated many of her beautiful works to charitable groups. She rests in peace in the loving memories of her family and all those who knew her. She was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Nana."

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Delmar W. Patterson of Claremont, Calif.; her children, Ronald W. Flint of Elko, Nev., Gwendolyn A. Farrell and her husband Ronald of Palmdale, Calif.; four granddaughters, Carrie Farrell of Lancaster, Calif., Judith Herbick and her husband Jeff of Quartz Hill, Calif., Louise Johnson and Debbie Parks of Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jenna, Jeffrey and Jarod of California, and Christopher and Jordon of Texas; a sister Betty Jo Schneider of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Debra Beth Burgess
SCOTTSBLUFF — Debra Beth Burgess, 35, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Services will be at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday, June 2, 2001, at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Hyannis, with the Rev. Christine Mottl officiating. Burial will be in the Ashby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church in Hyannis. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. The Mullen Funeral Home in Mullen is in charge.
She was born September 3, 1965, in Alliance, to Bernard and Ruth Stevens Burgess. Thirty years of her life were spent at the Area 2 Human Development Group Home in Scottsbluff.
She is survived by her parents of Ashby; three brothers, Gary, Bernie (Oliva) and Dave (Dixie); five nieces, two nephews, and several aunts, uncles and friends.

Nancy Jo Dean
MORRILL — Nancy Jo Dean, 48, of Morrill, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Longmont, Colo. Funeral services are pending with the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell.

Donald E. Duke
GERING — Donald E. Duke, 67, of Gering, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at his home. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Private family inurnment will be at West Lawn Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice and Gering Organized Baseball.
He was born on August 9, 1933, in Stigler, Okla., to Lester and Fanny (Gilstrap) Duke. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Army on December 7, 1953, and was honorably discharged December 6, 1955. He was stationed at the Presidio. He married Charlene Turrentine in 1956. A son Charles was born to them. They later divorced. He married his current wife JoAnn, in 1982. He worked as a route salesman for Harris Sales of Alliance for over 20 years. He was a coach for G.O. Baseball and the Gering American Legion Club. He also coached the D & A Fast Pitch softball team, earning 3 State Championships. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2998 and the Gering American Legion.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn, son Charles of Oklahoma, sister Dottie Price of Oklahoma, two brothers, Dow and Doug of Oklahoma, and three step children.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lydia Huck
BAYARD — Lydia Huck, 89, of Bayard, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Russell R. Luce
GERING — Russell R. Luce, 71, of Gering, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2001, at Rejoice Lutheran Church with the Rev. Terry Templeton and Pastor Charlie Hornick officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gering Memorial Chapel Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Cheyenne Genealogical Society, or to Rejoice Lutheran Church.
He was born on September 23, 1929, in Buffalo County, Neb., to Ray and Louise Anna (Schmitz) Luce. He graduated from high school in Pleasonton, Neb. On August 23, 1953, he married Joyce Rowe in Sidney. He was employed by the city of Sidney Street department where he retired in 1995 after 40 years. After his retirement, they made their home in Gering.
He enjoyed gardening, collecting pens and pencils, macrame and was an avid Nebraska fan.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of Gering; mother Louise of Kearney; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Liz Luce of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Cade Luce of Ft. Collins, Colo.; sisters Edith Bukovsky of Pueblo, Colo., Erma Lammers and husband Don of Kearney; brother Wayne Luce and wife Loretta of Westminster, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Victor.

John ‘Jack’ W.
Robarchek Sr.
GERING — John “Jack” W. Robarchek Sr., 71, of Gering, NE. died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo. due to complications following surgery. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, at Gering Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Neugebauer officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #36. Cremation was held at Wrights Colorado Cremation in Loveland, Colo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on February 7, 1930, in McCook, Neb. He grew up in Culbertson, Neb. and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1948. He served with the United States Navy from 1948 to 1949. In September of 1950, he married Carolyn Anderson of McCook. Jack was recalled to the Navy to serve in the Korean War during 1952 to 1953. Jack and Carolyn moved to Gering in 1957. He worked for Hinky Dinky grocery in McCook before moving to Gering in 1957. He managed the Rompus Room bar in Gering for seven years. In 1981, he began working for Gering Public Schools as Director of Transportation until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion for over 25 years and the Elks Lodge for 36 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodwork, watching Husker football, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn; daughters, Julie Burks and husband Dan of Sweet Home, Ore., Jeanne Sanchez and husband Rudy of LaPorte, Colo., and Jaci Sullivan and husband Mark of Fairplay, Colo.; sisters, Jo Ann McIlravy and husband Bill of Ord, and Shirley Dike and husband Robert of McCook; and grandchildren, McKenzie and Kyle Burks, Elysha Conner-Robarchek, Olivia Sanchez, and Dawson Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, and a grandson.

Henry Schmall
BAYARD — Henry Schmall, 86, of Bayard, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff.

Erwin ‘Earl’ Baack
SIDNEY — Erwin "Earl" Baack, 85, a longtime Sidney resident, died early Fri. morning, June 15, 2001, at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Military graveside services provided by American Legion Post #17, VFW Post #610 and DAV Chapter #40. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 8 pm on Sunday. Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour, Women's Crisis Center of Douglas County Colorado, MHC Hospice. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on December 30, 1915, at his home in Seward County, Neb., near Staplehurst to Ernest and Clara (Pflughaupt) Baack. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Marysville, he also attended the Marysville Parochial school, traveling to school by a cart and pony picking up his cousins on the way. He moved with his family to a farm in Kimball County in 1930. He enlisted in the service in May 1942, and served with the U.S. Army in the 453rd Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion during WWII in the European Theatre. He was honorably discharged in October 1945 as a Tech Sgt. Earl then returned to Cheyenne County and farmed West of Potter. On May 21, 1948, he was married to Marjorie Sellers, she preceded him in death on June 15, 1977.

On August 9, 1980, he was married to Mary Ann (Holmgren) Modlin in Las Vegas, Nev. Earl owned and operated his own farm and also worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1996. He was recognized by the Wheat Growers Association as being an excellent farmer. Earl enjoyed playing cards, going to coffee and spending time with his grandchildren he also enjoyed traveling during his retirement. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Laura Baack of Shawnee, Kan.; daughter and son-in-law, Carli and Randy Williams of Parker, Colo.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Kemp and Kristi Modlin of Sidney; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Don Gehrig of Sidney and Cheryl and Stan Bills of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; two sisters, Ella Mangels of Chappell and Hilda Bredehoft of Sterling, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Luella A. Panwitz Flack
CASPER — Luella A. Panwitz Flack, 64, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyo. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Caper, with Pastor Todd VonGunten officiating. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Alliance Cemetery, with the Reverend Mark T. Schnare officiating. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon after the graveside service, at the Gerald Panwitz home, 6401 Lincoln Rd., Alliance. Memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice or to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Casper.

She was born February 26, 1937, at Alliance to Chris and Edna (Behm) Panwitz.

She graduated from Alliance High School in 1954 and then attended Northern Colorado College in Greeley, Col. She lived in the Scottsbluff area from 1962 to 1975. She was employed by the Natrona County School District of Casper for 17 years, retiring in 1996. She continued working and helping the elderly until this past March.

She is survived by her mother, Edna Panwitz; her daughter, Cindy McBride of Scottsbluff; four sons, Mike and Max Dickinson of Casper; Jack of Sunbury, Pa.; and David of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Gerald Panwitz; and her sister, Connie Underwood, both of Alliance.

Ross T. Hewett
BAYARD — Ross Thomas Hewett, 82, of Bayard, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at the Northern Colorado Medical Center Burn Unit at Greeley, Colo., of injuries suffered in a fire at his home. Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Bayard Church of Christ with Pastor Jason Hanselman officiating. Interment will be in the Bayard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Bayard Church of Christ or the Bridgeport Church of Christ. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is in charge of the arrangements.

Ross was born January 14, 1919, in Bayard to Thomas J. and Mary Alice (Pearson) Hewett. He was raised and educated at Bayard and attended the District 96 school. He was united in marriage to Hazel Willey, March 14, 1938, in Gering. They lived in the Red Willow area northeast of Bayard until 1954 when they moved into Bayard. Ross was engaged in farming and the trucking business for many years. He and his wife and four other families were involved with the organization of the Bridgeport Church of Christ.

At the time of his death his main priorities and goals were his Savior, Church and Family. His hobby was repairing vehicles for resale for people who did not have the financial means to purchase vehicles from the various automobile dealers in the area. This was what Ross was doing at the time of his fatal accident. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Ross was a member of the Bayard Church of Christ.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Ruby and Gary Kuxhausen of Mitchell, Janet and Leo Denham of Scottsbluff, Dora and Duane Paben of McGrew, Judy Hewett of McGrew, son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Janet Hewett of Scottsbluff; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother George and wife Nona Hewett of Pea Ridge, Ark.; sister-in-law Ethel Couch of Mara, British Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Hazel, June 15, 1992; son Gerald; and sisters, Emily Peterson and Lila Peterson.

Violet (Rutter) Alt Jenkins
MORRILL — Violet (Rutter) Alt Jenkins, 83, of the Morrill and Mitchell communities, died June 16, 2001, at the Mitchell Care Center. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with a graveside service to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell Care Center in Violet’s memory. A complete obituary will appear in the Tuesday edition of the Star Herald.

Zoe Muhr
MIRA LOMA, Calif. —Zoe Muhr, 88, of Mira Loma, Calif., formerly of Banner County, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in California. A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the Avon Community Church. A graveside service will be Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chalk Creek Cemetery in Banner County. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born August 11, 1912, to William and Ruby Morrison in Spencer, Neb., one of eight children.

She lived in Banner County for many years where she participated in various community organizations including the Willing Workers Project Club. She attended church in Redington until she moved back to California. For the past twelve years she has lived in the country village in Mira Loma, Cal. and attended the Glen Avon Community Church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Bethalea Muhr of Aurora, Colo.; Leland and Gladys Muhr of Sun City, Calif.; two stepsons, Wesley and wife Eva; and Charles and wife Barbara both of Gering; sister Ruth Blackmore and husband Gene of Hemet, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby G. Piatt
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Ruby Grace Piatt, 88, of Englewood, Colo., died Thursday, June 14, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the First Assembly of God Church of Englewood with interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary of Littleton, Colo. is in charge of arrangements.

She was born November 14, 1912, to David and Grace (Garwood) Meredith in Lexington. She married Rollie Piatt. She worked as an assembler for a luggage manufacturer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Myrtle E. Smith
SIDNEY — Myrtle E. Smith, 90, of Sidney and formerly of the Potter area, died early Saturday morning, June 16, 2001, at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Potter United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will in the Potter Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Sidney. Memorial contributions may be made to the Potter Methodist Church or the Potter Fire Department. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born north of Potter on July 29, 1910, to Peter and Florence (Herboldsheimer) Nelson. Myrtle married William (Billie) Smith on September 26, 1928, at her parents’ home. They started farming in 1929. In 1942 they bought their own farm north of Potter and this was their home for the next 34 years. In March 1976, they moved to Sidney because of Billie’s failing health and he died June 5, 1976. Billie and Myrtle were parents of six children; Wallace, Douglass, Loran, Barbee, Lester and Karyn.

She was a member of the Potter Methodist Church, the Methodist Women’s Society, Royal Neighbors and was Past Matron of the Potter and Sidney Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed seeing all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was educated at District 13, a country school and graduated from Potter High School in 1927. She was privileged to attend a great-granddaughter’s high school graduation from Potter 70 years after she had graduated from the same school.

She is survived by her sons Douglas and wife Ardis of Dalton, and Loran of Lake Wales, Fla.; daughter Barbee Harmon of Sidney; daughters-in-law Shirley Smith of Scottsbluff, and Patty Smith of Denver; brother Roy Nelson of Sidney; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Sherry Richards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William Smith; sons Wallace and Lesten; daughter Karyn; daughters-in-law Nadine Smith; son-in-law Bill Harmon; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

Catherine E.(Sterkel) Riezanstein

SCOTTSBLUFF — Catherine Elizabeth (Sterkel) Riezanstein, 93, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at The Valley Bible Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Kurt England officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery here. Memorials may be made to the Valley Bible Church. Friends who wish may call at the funeral home Monday from noon until 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the funeral. Jolliffe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 15, 1908, in New Norka, Russia. She came to the United States in 1913 and settled in Minatare. In 1916, the family moved to Bayard. She was confirmed in the Bayard Church of Christ. In 1931, she married David D. Riezanstein at Julesburg, Colorado. They resided in Minatare for a time and later moved to Wheatland, Wyo., where she lived for fourteen years before returning to the valley. She worked 24 years at the Western Cafe in Scottsbluff. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Church at Scottsbluff.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Mrs. Leo Axt of Himar, Calif.; Delores and Ray Lipps of Casper, Wyo.; Elsie and Dale Ransom of Riverton, Wyo; Ellen Ivey of Las Vegas; Shirley and Gerald Green of Torrington, Wyo; and Sally Taylor of Golden Valley, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Vern Meyer of Bayard; stepson, Harry Riezanstein of Scottsbluff; brother, Alex Sterkel of Scottsbluff; 19 Grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter; two sons; one stepdaughter; four sisters; five brothers; and one granddaughter.

Samuel R. Brennaman
MINATARE — Samuel R. Brennaman, 74, of Minatare, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at the Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. His memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell, with Pastor Dwight Sandoz officiating. At Sam’s request, his remains were cremated. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Nebraska West Diabetes Association, Inc., 1931 1st Ave., Scottsbluff, NE 69361.

He was born June 4, 1927, in Morrill, to Samuel and Lenora (Fullerton) Brennaman. He attended grade school at Morrill and his high school years in Sioux Falls, S.D. He enlisted in the U.S. Army January 26, 1946, and was discharged on July 10, 1947, after serving in Japan. After his discharge, he returned to South Dakota. In 1951, he moved to Indiana and then returned to Scotts Bluff County in 1965, where he resided until his death. He was united in marriage to Frances "Mickey" Kuchera, October 1, 1981, in Torrington, Wyo.

He was raised in the Assembly of God Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #0139 at Minatare.

He is survived by his wife, Frances ""Mickey" Brennaman of Minatare; step-sons, Gary Brennaman of Hartselle, Ala., Arne and Arlen Brennaman, both of Syracuse, Ind.; daughter Sandy K. Holley of Francis, Okla.; step-son Carroll Mohrbutter of Wichita Falls, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; half-brother Harold Hardesty of Douglas, Wyo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson and step-son.
