Dorothy L. Stricker
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Funeral services for Dorothy L. Stricker, 82, of Torrington, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Marvin Temme officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Valley View Cemetery. She died at her home on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.; Thursday from 9-11 a.m.; and prior to the service at the church.
Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Our Savior Lutheran Church, the Torrington VFW or American Legion for local scholarships. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.
She was born on July 14, 1921, in Independence, Mo., the daughter of Roy and Hazel (Winfrey) Kennedy. She was raised in Kansas City, Mo., where she received her education; graduating from Central High School in 1939. She entered the work force for four and one half years before serving in the U.S. Navy, 1943-1945, at Pearl Harbor.
After her discharge, she married David Stricker on Feb. 17, 1946, in Kansas City. They moved to Bayard, where they farmed for nine years before moving to a farm in the Huntley, Wyo., area. She moved to Torrington in 1995, where she was an active 4-H leader for many years.
She is survived by her son Jim and his wife Kathy of Torrington; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Terry Jones of Torrington and Patti and Gary Sellenrick of Sheridan, Wyo.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
Ronald Willoughby
KIMBALL — Ronald Gene Willoughby, 67, of LaGrange, Wyo., died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at United Medical Center-West. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at the Dix Bible Church. Pastor Virgil Johnson and Pastor Don Mathis will officiate. Cremation has taken place and burial of the remains will be at the Potter Cemetery.
If friends wish memorial gifts may be made to the Ronald Willoughby Memorial Fund in care of the family. The Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 13, 1936, in Kimball, a son of Francis and Vivian (Herboldsheimer) Willoughby. Ronald had attended both the University of Nebraska and the University of Wyoming. He and Shirley Nelson were married June 7, 1959, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball. He has lived in LaGrange for the past 29 years and had also lived in Albin, Sidney, Egbert, Potter and Jacinto. About a month ago he moved to Mountain Towers in Cheyenne, due to his health.
He was a manager for Point of Rocks Grain Elevators in Jacinto. He was a member of the Dix Bible Church and the Brotherhood of International Electrical Workers. He had served in the United States Marine Corps. Ronald will be remembered as a loving and caring, husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; his mother Vivian Willoughby of Cheyenne; son Mark Willoughby of LaGrange; daughters, Debra Dorigatte of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Shelly Flohr of Minatare; brother Donald Willoughby of Pine Bluffs; sister Marjorie Duffus of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; and grandson David Lee Flohr.
Luis R. Calvillo
Luis R. Calvillo, 68, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Colonial Manor in Custer, S.D. Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 6, 10:30 a.m., at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Fr. James Golka officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with military rites by Admiral Dewey Post #1681 VFW. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 5, at the Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Luis was born July 19, 1935, in Laredo, Texas. He came to Scottsbluff and worked for Harry and Max West, West’s Conoco, for several years, then at the Scottsbluff Post Office. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #2681.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Calvillo of Virginia, Joseph Calvillo of Minneapolis, Minn., and Louie Calvillo of Walhalla, N.D.; daughter Anna Marie Calvillo of Omaha; brother Valtason Calvillo of Laredo; sister Alice of Omaha; nine grandchildren including, Terra Calvillo, Anthony Calvillo, Patrick Calvillo and Dominic Calvillo, all of Walhalla; Robert Calvillo Jr. and Joseph Calvillo, of Virginia; and Aaron Calvillo of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Eva Schnell
SIDNEY — Eva Schnell, 90, a longtime Cheyenne County resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Beverly Health Care in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Edgar Schambach officiating. Interment is at Greenwood Cemetery. The family has designated memorials to the church. Visitation is at the Funeral Home from noon to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5.
Eva was born Sept. 16, 1913, at Arcola, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Conrad and Anna E. (Schaneman) Brill. The family moved to the Scottsbluff and Minatare areas, where Eva was raised and attended school. She married Peter Schnell July 14, 1929, at Scottsbluff, and the couple moved to Lodgepole, Sidney and Crook, Colo., where they farmed for many years. In their later years, they moved into the city of Sidney.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Gabel of Sidney and Edna Jantz of Keenesburg, Colo.; son Don Schnell of Dawson, Texas; sisters, Mary Fagler of Denver, Katherine Schmidt of Sidney and Lydia Gabel of Gering; brother Conrad Brill of Gering; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death.

Roberta Biggs
SIDNEY — Roberta Biggs, 82, died at Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. A Christian Wake service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 13, in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, Wyo.
Memorials may be given to Moyer Animal Shelter and St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, both of Powell, or MHC Hospice and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, both of Sidney.

Robert Broberg and Ida Broberg
CHADRON — Robert Broberg, 63, and his wife Ida (Hostler) Thomas Broberg, 58, both of Chadron, died Wednesday Feb. 4, 2004, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident west of Brady on I-80.
Mass of Christian Burial for the couple will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Chadron. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, at O’Brien- Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney; and from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at St. Patrick’s. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, also at St. Patrick’s.
Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross or the church.
O’Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Broberg was born Sept. 3, 1940 in Chadron, and was a graduate of Chadron High School. He entered the U.S. Army Oct. 17, 1963, and was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1969. He married Ida Thomas on Nov. 15, 1999, in Chadron. While living in Chadron, he worked for the railroad. He had previously lived in Gering, where he worked for Lockwood.
He was a member of the church, Knights of Columbus and the VFW in Chadron.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Staff Sergeant Bryan and Ethel Broberg of Gering; daughter and son-in-law Robin and Kevin Collins, also of Gering; brothers, Delbert of San Antonio, Texas, Ted and Fred, both of Chadron; mother Mary Lecher of Chadron; his stepchildren and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and adopted father Simon Lecher.
Ida Broberg was born March 1, 1945, in Batesland, S.D., to John and Margret (Hilligas) Hostler. She grew up in Rushville, Kearney, Chadron and South Dakota. She was a graduate of Assumption High School in Chadron.
While living in Kearney, she worked at Mt. Carmel Home, Valentino’s and Regis Hair Salon. She married Robert Broberg in Chadron on Nov. 15, 1999.
She was a member of the church and the National Cosmetology Association.
She is survived by her mother Margret Hostler of Blunt, S.D., sons and daughter-in-law, John Thomas and Diane Hostler of Lincoln and Captain Jerry Thomas of Manhattan, Kan.; and daughter Staff Sergeant Christine Messman and her husband Staff Sergeant Tom of Great Falls, Mont.; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Judy of Blunt, S.D. and Roland and wife Louise of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; her stepchildren and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Margie Fay Burgess
HYANNIS — Margie Fay Burgess, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Mitchell Care Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the United Church of Christ in Hyannis with Pastor Rodney Long of the Scottsbluff Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Hyannis Cemetery with Mullen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the church Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorials are suggested to the Hyannis Ambulance Fund or the donor’s choice.
Margie was born Jan. 31, 1923, at Mullen to Ardys Austin and Ethel Maude Shields Ginkens. On Oct. 7, 1946, she married William Raymond Burgess at Hot Springs, S.D. They had one son, William Raymond Jr. Margie and Bill lived south of Ashby on the Burgess Ranch until his untimely death from cancer at an early age.
On Nov. 27, 1948, in Scottsbluff, she married Edward Harry Burgess, who adopted her young son. Two children were born to this union, Lawrence Edward and Barbara Jean. Ed and Margie spent the rest of their married lives on the family ranch until his passing in April 1996. Following his death, she lived with her children for several years before entering the Mitchell Care Center in 2001.
Margie attended elementary school in Hooker County and in Iowa living with her grandma Ginkens. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1940. Margie then returned to the Sandhills to teach at various elementary schools, including Ashby, the Stevens and Well Valley Schools south of Ashby and Red Mill, north of Hyannis, for 12 years. She was a teacher’s aide for several years at the Stevens School following her retirement from full-time teaching duties.
Margie was a member of the Hyannis Seventh-Day-Adventist Church, having been baptized in March 1976. She was the church pianist and held various other offices over the years. She was a member of the Wait-and See Extension Club of South Ashby for many years. She and Ed were members of the Panhandle Country Music Association and hosted country music jamborees and barbecues at the ranch for several years until their son Bill’s accidental death in July 1989.
Margie enjoyed reading and studying her Bible, going to church regularly, gardening, and playing the piano and visiting family and neighbors. She was a very good cook and always took pleasure in feeding anyone who dropped in at mealtime. She was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by son Larry (Kendra) Burgess of Ashby; daughter Barbara (Joe) Ferguson of Scottsbluff; brother Eugene (Ardi) Ginkens of Benson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ed (Shannon) Burgess of Windsor, Colo.; John (Sybille) Burgess of Aurora, Colo.; Jim, Jack and Kristen Burgess of Ashby; Bruce (Margo) Ferguson of Scottsbluff; and Shawn Ferguson of Portland, Ore.; daughter-in-law Cheryl Burgess of Elizabeth, Colo.; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bill and Ed; son William Jr. (Bill); and sister Lucille Towne.
Bernice Dennis
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Memorial services for Bernice Dennis, 90, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel in Torrington with the Reverend H.W. Thiemann officiating. Bernice died Feb. 5, 2004 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington and cremation has already taken place.
Those who wish may direct memorial contributions to Country Villa or the Goshen Care Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.
Peggy L. (Spier) Holliday
KIMBALL — Peggy L. (Spier) Holliday, 75, of Kimball, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at United Medical Center West in Cheyenne, Wyo. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Pine Bluffs, Wyo., United Methodist Church Pastor; Roger Aurand officiating. Cremation was held at Schrader’s Sunset Park Crematory. Interment will be in the Pine Bluffs Cemetery.
Memorials are to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Kimball. She married Elmer Holliday on March 11, 1976, in Elko, Nev. Peggy was a homemaker and a member of the Burns, Wyo. Chapter #47, Order of Eastern Star. She loved fishing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband Elmer Holliday of Kimball; son Steven L. Spier of Cheyenne; stepsons, Steve Holliday of Ogallala, Kendall Holliday of Glendale, Ariz., David Holliday of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Curtis Holliday of Laramie, Wyo.; stepdaughters, Karen Van Patten of Scottsbluff, Janet Fenwick of Ogallala, JoAnn Rockel of Buffalo, Wyo., Linda Cochran of Ogallala and Sandra Holliday of Cheyenne; 33 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Linus Spier; parents, James and Hilda Stevens; stepdaughter Sherrie Anderson; stepson Gary Holliday; and sister Virginia McLaughlin.

William E. Outson
GLENDALE, Ariz. — William E. Outson, 79, of Glendale, joined his late wife in heaven on Feb. 6, 2004. Memorial services are on Thursday, Feb. 12 at noon, at Apollo Baptist Church, 11611 N. 51st Ave. in Glendale. Graveside services will be held at National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd.
He will be missed by his daughter Linda DeIeso; son and daughter-in-law Dennis and June Outson; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Roger Heyen; sister and brother-in-law MaryAnn and William Gable; in-laws Carolyn Outson, Barbara and Fred Cruzen and Sandy and Wil Luecke; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends and church family.
William was a devoted and loving husband, dad, brother, grandpa and friend.

Elizabeth G. Decker
Elizabeth G. Decker, 90, of Gering, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Gerald Harr officiating. A private family interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Elizabeth was born in Ulysses on June 26, 1913, the daughter of Isabel (Kelly) Gannon and William Albert Gannon. She graduated from Marymount College in Salina, Kan., with a degree in elementary education. She was teaching in Ulysses when she met Louis Decker. On Jan. 4, 1942, they were united in marriage. They soon moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where they had their first two children, Marilyn and Robert. They moved to Scottsbluff where another daughter, Lee Ann, was born.
Elizabeth taught school at Bryant Elementary School from 1955-1963. She also taught in Belle Fourche, S.D., and Peoria, Ariz. Elizabeth then lived in David City before returning to Scottsbluff to retire. She has lived at the Northfield Villa for the last 14 years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Hank Rahmig of Scottsbluff, her son Robert Decker of Omaha, her daughter and son-in-law Lee and Mike Tomco of Anchorage, Alaska; and six grandchildren, Bruce Rahmig, Kelly Campbell, Stephanie Decker, Andy Tomco, Jack Tomco and Joel Tomco.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Decker; her parents, William and Isabel Gannon; and her brothers, George and Leonard Gannon.
Larry D. Birth
MINATARE — Larry D. Birth, 69, of Minatare, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center with family by his side. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 13, at the WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Marshall Smith officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff.

Larry was born on March 15, 1935, in Muskogee, Okla., to Merle and Nellie (Anderson) Birth. He received his education in Oklahoma before moving to Nebraska where he worked for a cattle feeder and worked on several ranches. In 1963, he joined the Nebraska Brand Committee, where he enjoyed 40 years of employment. Larry was the last brand inspector to work at the Omaha Stock Yards in Omaha. He was a resident of Minatare for 17 years before his death.
Larry is survived by his wife, Phyllis Birth of Minatare; ex-wife Shirley Freeze; daughters Julie Leming, Melani Petty, Cherri Birth, and Krista Birth, all of Omaha and Karna Jarecki, of Minatare; son Gerald Birth, of Minatare; five sisters; two brothers; and seven grandchildren.
His parents; son, Kent Birth; and brother, Gerald "Tom" Birth preceded Larry in death.
Darold C. Carrell
Darold C. Carrell, 87, of Fort Collins, Colo., died April 8, 2004, at his home in Fort Collins, Colo.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 15, at Hemingford Congregational Church in Hemingford. A private family inurnment is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hemingford Congregational Church.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1916, in Hemingford, to Agnes (Schneider) Carrell and Clarence Carrell.
Mr. Carrell spent his childhood on a farm three miles west and two miles south of Hemingford where he later farmed for 20 years. In 1955, he moved into town and owned and operated Bud’s Mobile Service Station. In 1962, he moved to Seattle, where he worked for NC Machinery as a Caterpillar track repairman for 18 years.
He was a member of the Hemingford Congregational Church, the Machinist’s Union, the Eagles Club, the Lions Club and the NRA. After retiring, he returned to Hemingford where he loved to attend auctions, collect antiques and work in his shop.
He married Jacqueline L. Irwin on May 29, 1937, in Alliance, and they had three children. The couple recently moved to Fort Collins, Colo., after living in Hemingford for 20 years
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueiline, of their home in Fort Collins, Colo.; sons, Bob Carrell of Boiling Springs, Pa., and Bill Carrell of Fort Collins; daughter Nancy and husband Jack Reynolds of Madison, Conn.; grandchildren Sandy and husband Colin Taylor of Huntsville, Ala., Chip and wife Lisa Carrell of Fort Collins, David and wife Lola Carrell of Montgomery, Ala., Tammy and husband Buford Rivers of Buena Vista, Colo., Jim and wife C.V. Carrell of Italy, Jennifer and husband Paul DaRosa of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jeremy and wife Stacey Reynolds of Fayetteville, N.Y.; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie (Carrell) Stull; and two daughters-in-law, Linda (York) Carrell and Beverly (Zak) Carrell.
