Virginia Holmes
Virginia Holmes, 74, of 418 W. 29th St., Scottsbluff, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Beverly Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, at West Way Christian Church with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery, Minatare. A memorial has been established to the West Way Christian Church Building Fund.
Friends may call Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel today, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugan- kramer.com.
She was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Scottsbluff, to Raymond and Violet (Hewitt) Hain and received her early education at Lake Alice School, graduating from the 10th grade; then from Scottsbluff High School graduating from the 12th grade in 1947.
She married Dale Holmes Jan. 11, 1948, at First Christian Church in Scottsbluff, and they made their home in the Hope Community, north of Minatare, where they raised their four children. In 1977, they moved to Mitchell, where Dale was manager for Pathfinder Irrigation. After his retirement, they moved to Scottsbluff in 1990.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was member of the Hope Women’s Club for many years and has been a member of West Way Christian Church since 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Dale of Scottsbluff; daughter, Leona Stricker and Tom Bixby of Mitchell; son, Ken Holmes and wife Vicky of Fairfield, Mont.; daughters-in-law, Alma Holmes of Scottsbluff and Kathy (Jack) Strong of Colorado; brother, Curtis Hain of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Holli (Wes) McCance of Mitchell; Brant Stricker of rural Mitchell; Jennifer (Ty) Adams of Billings, Mont.; Michael Holmes of Helena, Mont.; Emily and Kari Holmes, of Scottsbluff; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brigitte and Bethany Gross, of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Marion; son, Dick, in 1983 and son, Lee, in 1993; and sister-in-law, Alice Hain.
Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Patty J. Wise
LAVISTA — Funeral services for Patty J. Wise, 60, of LaVista, will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ralston. Interment will be in Cedar Dale Cemetery, Papillion.
Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, June 16, from 1 to 8 p.m., with family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society or Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.
Survivors include her husband, Norman; daughters and son-in-law, Hope of Omaha and Heather and Joe Farrell of Ralston; and sister and brother-in-law, Merry and Kim Witzki of LaVista.

Jackie Lu Collins
GEORGETOWN, Texas — Jackie Lu Collins, 76, of Georgetown, formerly of Cedar Park, Texas, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her home.
She was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Beckett, Okla., to Charles William and Lelia Olive (Melton) Glasby. She married Kingsley Edwin Collins July 22, 1949, in Gering; he preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1994. Her parents and one sister also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Collins worked for the Austin I.S.D. as a school librarian and school administrator. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Taylor, Texas; life member of the NEA along with the VFW Auxiliary Post #8787; member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #2; and Naval Reserve Ombudsman in Austin, Texas.
Visitation will be Friday, June 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, June 18, at the V.F.W. Post #8787 in Austin with Minister Lorraine Smith Rankin officiating.

Tommy D. Shelly
Tommy D. Shelly, 39, of Gering, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2004, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill with Pastor Rodney Long officiating. Cremation has taken place at The Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory in Scottsbluff.
Jones Mortuary in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 17, 1964, in Scottsbluff, the son of Mickey D. and Marilyn E. (Staab) Shelly. He was raised here in the Panhandle on various farms and ranches. He attended primarily rural schools and received his GED in Alliance in the late 1980s. He attended Community College in Scottsbluff and was named to the honor roll. Tommy did various jobs on farms and ranches; landscaping work; janitorial work; and cooked and washed dishes in local restaurants. He was the most honest, hard-working person one could ever meet. He loved his motorcycle and he loved children.
Tommy will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his son, T.J.; mother, Marilyn Shelly of Scottsbluff; sister, Cindy Rein of Scottsbluff; brothers, John Shelly of Morrill and Tad and Sam Shelly, both of Scottsbluff; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Timmy Dean Shelly; sister, Candy Sue Shelly; father, Mick Shelly; and grandparents, Ada and Walter Staab and Viola and William Shelly.

Salvador V. Ysac
Salvador V. Ysac, 76, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday June 15, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services are pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home.

Ida Mildred Andrews
KIMBALL — Ida Mildred Andrews, 91 of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Hawk Springs, Wyo., died in Scottsdale on Wednesday, June 16, 2004. Funeral Services will be held in Kimball, and will be announced in Tuesday’s Star Herald. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald A. Brammeier
Donald A. Brammeier, 89, of Salem, Ore., passed away, Monday, June 7, 2004 in Salem. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the Jones Mortuary Chapel in Mitchell. Private inurnment will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Morrill at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation.

Donald was born Oct. 18, 1914 in Boulder, Colo., to Hugh and Frances (Chalupa) Brammeier. He grew up and received his education in the Boulder area. He moved to Lyman where he worked for his uncle on the family farm. He married Margaret Harris Nov. 2, 1936 in Gering. They farmed eight miles south of Lyman for 34 years until his retirement in 1970. He moved to Salem, Ore., in 1986 where he had resided since.

Survivors include his son, Robert E. Brammeier and his wife, Barbara, of Salem.; daughter, Jean Heil and her husband, Don, of Casper, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.

Ray Otte Jr.
Ray Otte Jr. 58, of Scottsbluff died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Beverly Health Care Center after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. His memorial service will be held Monday, June 21, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Scott Peterson officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com.

Ray was born on March 19, 1946 along with his twin sister Linda Kay to Ray and Elaine (Stevens) Otte in Scottsbluff. He graduated as Salutatorian from Scottsbluff High School in 1964 after serving as Student Council President.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He served as vice president of the Bank of Gering until 1986. The family moved to Denver where he worked as an auditor for several accounting firms.

Ray never missed any of his son’s sporting events and kept score at hundreds of little league baseball games. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and won too many bridge tournaments to count.

Ray is survived by his mother, Elaine, of Scottsbluff; twin sister, Linda Kay Benson and husband, Ken, of MacGregor, Minn.; sons, Jordan, of Scottsbluff, and Nathan and Adrian, both of Kansas City, Kan.

His father, brother, Steve, and two infant sisters preceded him in death.

Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Veronica Renee Rivera
Veronica Renee Rivera devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and grandmother, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 surrounded by her family at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan, Colo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father James Golka officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A vigil service will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. to noon at the chapel. Memorials may be given to the family. She was born on Aug. 20, 1959 to Sally (Maestas) Rivera and Fermine Rivera Sr. in Scottsbluff. She was raised in Mitchell and received her education in the Mitchell Public Schools and at Ft. Morgan Community College.

She is survived by her daughter, Angelica; granddaughter, Gabriela Mecillas; son, Juan Carlos Chavira all of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and son, Gilbert Rivera, of Scottsbluff; mother and stepfather, Sally and Manuel Bejarano, of Mitchell; father, Fermine Rivera Sr., of Scottsbluff; sisters, Carol Ann Rabago and Cindi Nash, both of Scottsbluff, Krissa Munoz, of Mitchell; and brothers, Mike and Bryant Rivera of Fort Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Fermine Rivera Jr.; maternal grandparents, Patrick and Elisa Maestas; and paternal grandparents, Norberto and Petronila Ribera.

Betty Jean Splichal
Betty Jean Splichal, 76, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center. Her Funeral will be Wednesday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A memorial in Betty’s name has been established to the Church. Friends who wish may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff, Tuesday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Betty was born December 2, 1927 in Scottsbluff, the daughter of Henry and Edith (Bastron) Helzer. She was raised and educated at Scottsbluff, graduating from Scottsbluff High School. Betty was united in marriage to Calvin D. Splichal, Jan. 23, 1948, in Scottsbluff. She had worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for Martha Rohrick, the Red Feather Oil Co., Cook Livestock and Hergert Milling Co.

She was a member of the Salem Congregational Church and the Ladies’ Circle, the B.P.O.E. Does and Regional West Medical Center Auxililary.

Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin D. Splichal Jr. and his wife Faye, and Allen Splichal and his wife Cheri, all of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Jason Splichal and his wife Jennifer of Mitchell, Troy, Allison and Chase Splichal, all of Scottsbluff; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Splichal. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Calvin, Aug. 23, 1987.

Salvador V. Ysac
Salvador V. Ysac, 76, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff with family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2004, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father James Golka as the Celebrant. The family requests casual attire for the services. Cremation will follow the Mass with an inurnment scheduled at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 20, 2004, beginning at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Scottsbluff with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the family or to the church. Condolences can be offered at sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com. Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff is assisting the family with arrangements.

Salvador was born on July 2, 1927, in Casper, Wyo., to Francisco and Angela Marie (Valderama) Ysac. The family moved to Scottsbluff while Salvador was very young and he received his early education at the Roosevelt Elementary School, and continued at the Scottsbluff High School. Salvador enlisted in the Army in 1950 and served in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharged on Oct. 15, 1952. Salvador married Consuelo Sanchez on Sept. 27, 1958, in Alliance at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Salvador worked at Swift and Company for 29 years before joining the Office of Human Development as a van operator. He resigned in Oct. 2003 after driving for 24 years in the Scottsbluff/Gering area. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and cars (especially Ford cars), including NASCAR racing and antique vehicles. Salvador held dear his membership to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, serving his Lord as a Eucharistic Minister, and was devoted to saying the Rosary. He was a member of the Parish Council and was a member of the Legion of Mary. Salvador was a man of very strong faith. He was a lifetime member of the Admiral Dewey V.F.W. Post #1681 in Gering.

Salvador is survived by his wife, Consuelo Ysac of Scottsbluff; sons, Salvador Ysac Jr. of Mesa, Ariz., Albert Ysac of Scottsbluff, Leo Ysac and his friend, Valarie Orozco, of Gering, Henry Ysac and his wife, Robin, of Scottsbluff, and Robert W. Ysac and his wife Amber of Gering; daughters, Angela Marie Ysac and her friend, Tony Rosado, of Scottsbluff, and Veronica Barney and her husband, Rob, of Scottsbluff; brothers Daniel Ysac and his wife, Stella, of Scottsbluff, and Albert Ysac of Hawaii; sister Esther De Ollos and her husband, Sam, of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Andrew, Toni and Trenton; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one infant brother, one infant sister, and sisters Angeline Solano and Margaret Ysac preceded Salvador in death.

Robert D. ‘Bob’ Goodwin
HIAWATHA, Kan. —Robert D. “Bob” Goodwin, 71, of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, June 21, 2004. He was greatly loved by his family and admired by others in his life and was especially appreciated for his love of life, family and his sense of humor.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Cremation will follow services. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be held in Scottsbluff at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to NEK Multi County Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association, both of which may be sent in care of the funeral home at 124 S. 7th St., 66434.

Bob was born March 21, 1933, in Elmo, Mo., to James and Maude Goodwin. He grew up in the Westboro, Mo. area, and graduated from Westboro High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball. He served as MP in the Armed Services, where he was stationed in Germany. On Nov. 17, 1957, he married Janet Spaulding. The couple lived in various Nebraska communities, where Bob worked as a grocery store manager for Nash Finch Company.
They retired in Grand Island; moved to Mitchell; and then to Hiawatha four and one-half years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, of the home in Hiawatha; children, Jim and wife Jennifer of Lincoln; Deb of Scottsbluff; Jerry and wife Sheli of Scottsbluff; and John and wife Colette of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Monte and Colleen of Severance, Kan.; Lyle and Brenda Wathier; and Alan and Pat Quackenbush.
His parents preceded him in death.

James ‘Jim’ Green
La Grange, Wyo. — Graveside services with military honors for James “Jim” Green, 56, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the La Grange Cemetery in La Grange, Wyo., with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating.
Jim died on June 20 at his home in Lexington following a short battle with cancer. He was born on Oct. 22, 1947, in Cheyenne, Wyo. He is the son of Mary Green of LaGrange and the late Floyd Green.
Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home.

Alexander Keller, 81 of Gering, died Monday, June 21 2004, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Wilma I. (Eckert) Saathoff, 83, of Dalton died Tuesday morning, June 22, 2004 at Heritage of Bridgeport Care Center in Bridgeport.

Donald L. Garrett
ALLIANCE — Donald L. Garrett, 84, of Alliance, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Box Butte General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance. Inurnment will be at the Alliance Cemetery. Donald was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Alliance, to Ebenezer and Dora (Curry) Garrett. He married Dorothy Colerick on Oct. 5, 1940. Donald was a longtime business owner in Alliance, beginning with Missouri Market in 1944, then Don’s Liquor in 1966. He was also a lifetime member of the Eagles and Elks Clubs.
Donald is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Barbara of Gothenburg; Dennis of McCook; Randy and Julie; and Greg and Cheryl, all of Alliance; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Yvonne Kirchner of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Freeman, Lee and Gene; sisters, Alice Coupens and Eileen Montague; wife, Dorothy on Sept. 9, 1998; and daughter-in-law, Julianne Garrett.

Delores M. Lindquist
BROADWATER — Delores M. Lindquist, 73, of Broadwater, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Cheyenne, Wyo. Funeral arrangements are pending at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Juan Lopez
Juan Lopez, 104, of Scottsbluff, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 1, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dwight Sandoz officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., today, June 30. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugankramer.com
Juan was born March 6, 1900, to Anthony and Epfania (Ortis) Lopez in Guanajuato, Mexico. He moved from Mexico to the United States in search of employment. Juan previously resided in Cheyenne, Wyo., Boise, Idaho, Mitchell and Minatare, before making his home in Scottsbluff in 1932. He married Maria Florencia Garcia in Mitchell; the couple had been married for more than 60 years until her death in 1974.
Juan’s family migrated to California in the mid-1930s, but Juan decided to stay behind. He was employed as a night lead man with Western Sugar and farmed with the Kay Yamata family, the Bill Barbour family, the Pete Busch family and various other farmers in the Valley.
Juan was a devoted Christian. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, flower gardening and animals.
He is survived by his nephews, Gill Garcia, of Tustin, Colo.; Pete Garcia and Jess Garcia, both of West Sacramento, Calif.; niece, Alice Espinoza, also of West Sacramento; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
His wife; sister-in-law, Socorro Garcia; brother-in-law, Pedro Garcia; and one additional sister-in-law preceded him in death.

Robert H. Midgley
KIMBALL — Robert “Bob” Hero Midgley, 82, of Kimball died Saturday, June 26, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at Cantrell Funeral Home. Interment of the cremated remains will be in Pinedale, Wyo.
Memorials may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Habitat for Humanity, Lions Sight First or by doing a “random act of kindness each day.”
Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Kimball; daughters, Joan Frances and Ann Frost; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Iva Munshaw
Ruth Iva Munshaw, 87, of Gering, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Heritage Health Care Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gering Memorial Chapel.
