Carl Romick
ALLIANCE — Carl Romick, 84, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at his home in Alliance. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 10 a.m., at the Bates-Gould Chapel. Pastor Beverly Webb will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice.
Carl was born January 29, 1921, in Melbeta, to David and Blanche (Meyer) Romick.
He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.
On June 19, 1971, he married Eleanor M. Stanton in Oral, S.D.
He was a long time area farmer and had also worked at Alliance Tractor and Implement. He was a member of the V.F.W., loved racecars, animals, fishing, and playing cards. He also enjoyed bird and squirrel watching.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Romick of Alliance; his children and their spouses, Stanley and Laura Romick of Lodgepole, Ronald and Donna Romick, and Kathy and Richard Meier, all of Alliance; and his step-children and their spouses, Vonda and Tom Rothleutner of Upton,Wyo., and Ivy Kay and Jack Birdsall of Martin, S.D. He is also survived by his sisters, Eva Steffen of Kearney, Wilma Twomley of Oregon, and Phyllis Henkel of Bayard; his brother, Howard Romick of Alliance; six grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 13 step-great grandchildren; his aunt, Hattie Wilson of Colorado; and longtime friend, Richard Roebuck. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, David Romick, Jr., and George Romick, his sister, Mabel Vogel, his granddaughter, Tania Meier, his stepson, Vergean Linton, and an infant daughter.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jacqualine R. Rupp
Jacqualine R. Rupp, 74, of Gering, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering surrounded by her loving family. Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service. Abiding by her wishes, cremation has taken place at the Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory in Scottsbluff. Online condolences can be offered at jonesmor@actcom.net.
Memorials are asked to be made to the Presbyterian Church Mission Fund in Jacqualine’s name. Jones Mortuary in Mitchell has assisted the family with arrangements.
Jacqualine ‘Jacque’ was born on June 25, 1930, in Morrill, to Ben and Bertha (Warner) Fullerton. She attended Morrill Public School, graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1948. She continued her education, graduating from nursing school in 1951, and worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement in December of 1995. She married Harold Rupp on August 12, 1951, the couple later divorced but they always made the Scottsbluff and Gering areas their home. She was proud of her membership to the First Presbyterian Church, offering back to her Lord membership in bible study groups, women’s organizations, and prayer chains until her ill health forced her to quit. Jacque loved reading, sewing, knitting, and gardening, but she hated to cook. She will be deeply missed by her loving family.
Jacque is survived by her son, Les Rupp and his wife, Sonja of Oak Harbor, Wash.; daughter, Susan Bueno; brother, Charles Fullerton and his wife, Peggy of Chesterfield, Mo.; sister, Shirley Nielsen and her husband, Gene of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Her parents, and one niece preceded Jacqualine in death.

Robyn Yancey
Robyn Yancey, 32 of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff.

Reuben Debus
MITCHELL — Reuben William Debus, 75, rural Mitchell, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo.
Funeral services are pending at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. A complete obituary will appear in the Tuesday edition.

Barry A. Gallawa
DENVER — Barry A. Gallawa, 59, of Denver, formerly of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at his residence in Denver.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 21 at Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Dale Brown Officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard. Visitation will be today, Sunday, March 20 from 12 until 7 p.m. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home and will continue an hour before the service at the church on Monday morning. Online condolences can be offered at sympathy@jolliffefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society.
Barry was born on September 5, 1945, in Temple, Texas to Adam and Anita (Smith) Gallawa. The family moved to Scottsbluff when Barry was very young, and he received his education in the Scottsbluff Public School system. At age 17, Barry joined the United States Army. He spent tours of duty in Germany and three separate tours in Vietnam. In Vietnam, Barry served with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, and with the Ninth Infantry Division. He participated in 23 multi-division operations and over 100 air assaults. He was wounded twice for which he received the Purple Heart. Barry achieved a rank of Spec. 4 within the Army. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Counter Campaign Medal Phase with two battle stars and the Gold War Medal, along with a Bronze Star and a Silver Star.
Following his honorable discharge on November 4, 1971, Barry married Nancy Freund in Denver, Colo. To this marriage, one son was born, Barry Anthony ‘Tony’ Gallawa. He received his Associates Degree in Arts from the Community College of Denver on May 25, 1978, and had earned enough credits for a Bachelors Degree but never finalized that degree. He had been working at the General Services Administration as general maintenance for the Government in Lakewood, Colo. and had been retired for approximately 10 years at the time of his death.
He enjoyed shooting and had an outstanding collection of weapons. He had a love for dogs, and could often be found enjoying his World Wrestling Federation on television. Barry was an avid history buff, especially the study of American Warfare, WWII Nazi Germany, and ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas and Egyptians. He was a very generous person (almost to a fault), taking everyone he met at face value and was very accepting of everyone. Barry was a joy to be around, and he had many friends in the Denver area. His many friends, and loving family will miss him greatly. Barry fell asleep in his favorite chair when he passed away, just as if he had it planned.
Barry is survived by his son Barry Anthony ‘Tony’ Gallawa and his wife Annette of Denver; grandchildren Eric and Nathan Gallawa; father Adam Gallawa of Scottsbluff; brother Kelly B. Gallawa and his wife Carla of Gering; sister Robin Miller of Scottsbluff; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews; and his four Rotweiller dogs, Max, DeSoto, Velvet and Diamond.
His mother Minnie Gallawa preceded Barry in death.

Jerry Lee Lewis
Jerry Lee Lewis, age 56, stepped upon the shores of Heaven Wednesday, March 9, 2005. He was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., on November 5, 1948, to Ross and Betty Lewis. Jerry graduated from Gering High School in 1967, and attended Chadron State College.
In 1972, he accepted the Blessed Lord and Savior of his life. Salvation gave him a new life that focused on caring for others. The years that followed were filled with God’s leading, including being the youth pastor and principal of Bible Baptist Church in Chadron, Neb. God then lead him to pastor Calvary Baptist Church in Alliance, Neb., for three years. He knew at this time God was directing him into evangelism. Jerry spent the next two years helping a small church in Parachute, Colo. His love for the Savior and people kept him zealous and faithful to preach the gospel for 23 years. His love for children filled every summer with Vacation Bible Schools. His life verse was 2 Corinthians 4:5 “For we preach not ourselves but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake.” He was a servant of the Lord teaching and preaching in churches, and encouraging pastors and their people with the Word of God.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Rhonda, his daughter, Annetta and son-in-law, Matt Johnson who are missionaries in Mexico, his son, Travis and daughter-in-law, Angie, who are missionaries in the Philippines, and his son, Jereme and daughter-in-law, Katie, who serve the Lord at Capitol City Baptist Church. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Makayla, Gideon, Alayna, and Victoria. Other survivors include his mother, Betty Lewis of Scottsbluff, his brother, Dan Lewis of Torrington, Wyo., his sisters, June Voss of Cluster, S.D., Rosemary Marrin of Scottsbluff, and Joanelle Pegg of Englewood, Colo.
He has finished his earthly race, but his life was a testimony to others of God’s sustaining grace. A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 16, 11 a.m., at the Capitol City Baptist Church, Pastor Hank Thompson officiating.

Vivian V. Wamser
Vivian V. Wamser, 92, of Gering, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Northfield Villa Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be Saturday, April 2, 11 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Howard Roseberry officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Visitation will be Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel.
Vivian was born on November 24, 1912, in Conway, Mo., to Harrison and Myrtle (Pringle) Sloan. She was united in marriage to Wayne R. Wamser on April 27, 1940, in Gering. She taught school in Banner and Scotts Bluff County (Harrisburg, Wrights Gap and Mitchell) for numerous years. Later she and Wayne owned and operated the bowling alley in Mitchell.
Vivian had a gift of wit to her; she would bring out a smile with her one-liners and loved to entertain with her harmonica. Everyone will miss her sense of humor.
She enjoyed fishing and bowling with her husband, Wayne.
She was a member of the Central Church of Christ and was an Honorary Queen Mum of the Superstitious Sizzling Senoritas Red Hat Society in Gold Canyon, Ariz.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Larry Larson of Missoula, Mont.; grandsons, Greg, Cary and Jamie; son-in-law, Larry Stricker; granddaughter, Michelle Chenoweth and great-grandson, Chad Stricker; sister, Loine Ullstrom and nieces and nephew Linda, Bruce and Jeanne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 1996 and daughter, Judith in 2000.

Margarito H. Martinez
Margarito H. Martinez, 86, of Mitchell, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel.

Alta W. Harris, 85, of Scottsbluff, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral arrangements are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff.

Daisy Bradt
KIMBALL — Daisy Bradt, 101, of Kimball, died March 30, 2005, at the Kimball County Manor. A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 3, at 3 p.m., at the Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Allen Heim officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the Watchtower Society Worldwide Work. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Daisy Bradt was born in Nebraska City on March 9, 1904, the daughter of John and Anna (Brugman) Goff. She was raised and attended schools in Nebraska City, graduating in 1922. During her younger years while living at home her father was a storeowner and she helped with the work around the store. She was married to Elford E. Bradt on Oct. 17, 1926, in Nebraska City. She moved with her new husband to Kimball in 1927 and then they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1937 and then back to Kimball in 1992. She dedicated her life to Jehovah in 1942 by baptism. Her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sisters, Lily Goff and Rose Costantini both of Easley, S.C. and Mary Ann Shreve of Casper, Wyo.

Lynn R. Gealy
Lynn R. Gealy, 87 of Gering, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center. Funeral services are pending at Gering Memorial Chapel.

Guy V. Cobb
MINATARE — Guy V. Cobb, 64 of rural Minatare, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005, 2 p.m., at Gering Zion Church with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Masonic rites will be performed by Robert W. Furnas 265 AF & AM.
A memorial service will be held in Casper, Wyo., on Wednesday, April 6, at 1 p.m., at the Richard Street Christian Church. Inurnment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Casper.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehab Center at Regional West Medical Center, 4021 Avenue B, Scottsbluff, NE, 69361. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Guy was born on September 18, 1940, in Boulder, Colo., to Vernon Frank and Elizabeth Ann (Clayton) Cobb. He married Karen Deanna Coppedge on August 26, 1961, in Casper, Wyo. They moved to Scottsbluff in 1985.
His memberships include: Secretary/Treasurer at York-Rite Masons, Tehama Temple Shriners, the Elks Lodge #1367 and the Gering Zion Church.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Deanna Cobb of Minatare; son, Jon Cobb and wife, Tammy; two granddaughters, Tristan and Katrina Cobb all of Booker, Texas; daughter, Deanna Thompson and husband, Hank Thompson and grandson, Lance Thompson all of Casper, Wyo.; brothers and sister Don Cobb, Richard “Butch” Moore and Mike Moore and Zoe Anna Madsen all of Casper, Wyo.
His parents preceded him in death.

Marie Hilzer Gabel
Marie Gabel, 97, of Scottsbluff, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral will be Wednesday, April 6 at 2 p.m., at the Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor John Adams officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Cemetery north of Minatare. A Memorial in Marie’s name has been established to the Church. Friends may call at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, Tuesday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Marie was born March 6, 1908, in Denver, Colo., the oldest of five children born to George J. and Mary Katherine (Mende) Hilzer. Being the oldest child, Marie help to take charge of raising her siblings, now they are awaiting her arrival so they can take care of her. Her family moved to the Bayard area in 1921, then later to the Melbeta area before finally settling in the Carter Canyon area where they farmed. Prior to her marriage, Marie was a nanny for the Steen family. She was united in marriage to Harry Gabel, February 15, 1933, at Scottsbluff. They farmed north of Scottsbluff before they bought their farm southeast of the Highland School. Marie was an excellent cook, enjoyed crocheting and raising a bountiful garden. She moved to Scottsbluff in 1991 and has resided at Wel-Life since 2000.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Congregational Church and the Ladies Aid Circle. She always was active in the Church until her health failed and always available to help with funeral dinners, making butterballs and noodles and bake sales that helped the financial welfare of the Church. She was also a member of the Pleasant Hour Garden Club at Minatare and a former 4-H leader.
Marie is survived by her sons, Richard Gabel and his wife, Ann of Scottsbluff, Alvin Gabel and his wife, Iva of Torrington, Wyo., Harry Gabel, Jr. of Minatare,; daughter, Katherine Swanson and her husband, Dick of Torrington; grandchildren, Allen Gabel, Gerald Gabel, Fadra Anders and her husband, Tim, Greg Gabel, Brian Gabel, Mike Swanson, Corby Swanson; great-grandchildren, Nichole, Courtney and Josh Swanson, Bailee and Kory Anders, Briana and Gabriel Gabel; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brothers, George Hilzer, Fred Schmidt, Jr., Harry Schmidt and Albert Schmidt and infant sister, Helen Schmidt.
God has opened the door to receive her but her light will still shine in our hearts.

Lynn R. ‘Shorty’ Gealy
Lynn R. ‘Shorty’ Gealy, 87 of Scottsbluff, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center. His funeral service will be Thursday, April 7, 2 p.m., at Gering Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the great grandchildren. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Visitation will be Wednesday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. until service time at Gering Memorial Chapel.
He was born on October 15, 1917, in Gordon, to Clarence and Mae (Webster) Gealy. He attended school in Gordon, graduating in 1935. He married Venita Fern Schroeder on August 14, 1937, in Newton, Kansas.
They lived in Goddard, Kan., until the mid 1940’s, when they moved to Gordon and began farming. Later moving to Gering in 1961. Lynn worked at the Lockwood Corp, and later retired from both Magnolia and Northfield Villa.
Survivors include his son, Larry and wife, Millie Gealy of Yuma, Ariz.; grandchildren, Rusty and wife, Tami Pierce and Dan and wife, Martha Pierce all of Gering; great-grandchildren, James, Aaron, Robyn and Danielle and Brent Pierce all of Gering; and brother, John Gealy of Gering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Pierce, brothers, Lyle and Waldo Gealy and sisters, Ruth Dillon, Julia (Pudge) Zurn and Evelyn Diehl.
