Joseph Michael Gonzales
Joseph Michael Gonzales, 15, of Scottsbluff, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Children’s Hospital at Denver. His Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, April 7 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father James Golka officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A Rosary/Vigil will be Wednesday, April 6, 7 p.m., at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. A Memorial has been established to Joseph’s Family. Friends may call at the funeral home in Scottsbluff, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to the Rosary/Vigil. Online condolences may be e-mailed to Joseph’s family at www.jolliffefuneralhome.com.
Joseph was born July 28, 1989, in Scottsbluff, the son of San Juana Gonzales. He was raised in Scottsbluff and educated at the Child Development Center. He was a special child, who touched many hearts.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Joseph is survived by his mother, San Juana “Janie” Gonzales of Scottsbluff; brothers, James (Christina) Gonzales of Scottsbluff, John (Marcella) Gonzales of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Jennifer Gutierrez of Gering; nephews, Josiah and Christian Gonzales of Scottsbluff, Isaiah Gonzales of Phoenix, Brayden and Tiernan Gonzales of Gering; niece, Thalia Gonzales of Phoenix; caregiver, Pam Loomis of Bayard; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, aunts, Rosita Jones, Dominga Ybarra and Juanita Gutierrez and uncle, Lucio Gutierrez.

Gerda Maria Gonzales
Gerda Maria Gonzales, 72, of Gering, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at her daughter’s home.
Her funeral service will be Wednesday, April 6, 10 a.m., at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Richard Landrigan officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery. A Sharing of Memories will be Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. A memorial has been established to the family. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com.
Gerda was born on July 3, 1932, in Gross-Zimmern, Germany to Karl and Barbara (Kempf) Ebenau. She came to the United States from Germany in 1955. On November 4, 1993, she received her U.S. Naturalization Citizenship.
Survivors are her children, Christopher Gonzales of Hudson, Colo., Michelle Schmidt (Matthew) of Gering, Mari Cavanaugh of Lakewood, Colo. and Timothy Gonzales of Hudson,; grandchildren, Joshua Renova, Sarah Cavanaugh, Cody Gonzales, Jennifer Gonzales, Marie Schmidt and Phillip Schmidt; siblings, Dieter Ebenau and Isle Gimbel both of Gross-Zimmern, Germany and Gernot Estl of Rossdorf, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gunther Ebenau and stepfather, Joseph Estl.

Guy Harmon
Guy Harmon, 81, of Gering, died Monday, April 04, 2005, at his home. Services are pending at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel.

Joe Richard Hernandez Jr.
A memorial funeral mass for Joe Richard Hernandez Jr., 55, of Scottsbluff, who died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, will be held Wednesday, April 6, at 2 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Father James Golka officiating. Military graveside rites will be given by the Nebraska National Guard. Inurnment will be at the Mitchell City Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m., at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Friends who wish may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., and at the vigil. His remains will then be cremated at the Jolliffe Funeral Home and Crematory.
He was born March 6, 1950, at Denver to Joe and Augustina (Rivera) Hernandez Sr. He grew up and received his education in the area. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1972 when he was honorably discharged and received the Purple Heart for courage. He then moved back to Scottsbluff where he worked as a laborer until ill health forced his retirement. He married Ruth Szafrajda on January 30, 1980, in Grand Island.
He enjoyed drawing, movies and the outdoors. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to joke around. He was a loving husband, father and brother. He was the best and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Scottsbluff; children, Jackie Garza and Tami Hernandez both of Bridgeport, Tracy, Bobby, Richard, Jamie, Paul, Tony and Tina Hernandez all of Scottsbluff; siblings, Mary and Steve Livermont and Chris Hernandez all of Phoenix, Ariz., Florence Ebert of Cincinnati, Ohio, Modesta and Sam DeOllos of Scottsbluff, Myra Hernandez of Mitchell, Paul and Maria Hernandez of Scottsbluff, and Dennis and Julie Hernandez of Alliance; twelve grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Noberto and Petronilla Rivera.

Dennis LeRoy Kenzy
MITCHELL — Dennis LeRoy Kenzy, 59, of Mitchell, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, at St. Paul’s Church in Mitchell with Dr. William Bibb officiating. Burial will be at the Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Tuesday at the church. Jones Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Circle of Friends (Prairie Haven Hospice).
Dennis was born August 28, 1945, in Scottsbluff, the son of Eugene and Opal (Fees) Kenzy. He received his education in Scotts Bluff County country schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy on August 22, 1963, and served his country until his honorable discharge on August 11, 1964. He lived in California and Washington for many years working as a welder. He returned to Scotts Bluff County in 1981 and was united in marriage to Doris Kay Steele on June 16, 1983, at the Scotts Bluff County Courthouse in Gering. The couple lived in Scottsbluff until moving to Mitchell in 1986, where they made their home until his death.
He was a member of the Koinonia Church in Mitchell. He was well known for his woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Doris K. Steele of Mitchell; daughters, Kandi Keller of Bath, Maine, Rae Anne Hitchings of Scottsbluff, and Chris (Jim) Senter of Bayard; grandsons, Keith, Brian, Christopher, Sr. Airman Timothy Jennings, Thomas, and Brandon; granddaughters, K.C. and Mikayla; great-grandson Joshua; great-granddaughter Jasmine; sisters, Audrey Buhrdorf of Sidney and Ruth Lynch of Sterling, Colo.; brothers, Ronald Kenzy of Eldorado Hills, Calif., Frank Kenzy of Gering, and John Kenzy of Sunbury, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother, Dale Kenzy preceded him in death.

Earl Dwight Rowlee
MITCHELL — Earl Dwight Rowlee, 65, of Mitchell, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April 7, at the United Methodist Church in Mitchell with Pastor Sheila Taylor and Pastor Steve Schwartzkopf officiating. The family has requested casual attire for the service. Burial will be in the Mitchell Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Wednesday at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. The casket will be closed for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church or Delta Waterfowl, PO Box 3128, Bismarck, ND 58501.
Earl was born August 31, 1939, in Mitchell the son of Bill and Opal (Stowell) Rowlee. He lived all his life in the Mitchell area. He was united in marriage to Joyce Hettinger on March 29, 1959, in Mitchell. Earl worked for Summerville Oil and Panhandle Coop service station. Earl entered a partnership with his father-in-law and purchased Summerville Oil, changing the name to Hettinger Rowlee. He later purchased the business, renaming it Rowlee Oil. Earl was employed by Farmers Irrigation for 18 years before his retirement in 2002.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Robert Fisher of Drake, Colo. and Melanie and Chris Ruzicka of Gering; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Shelley Rowlee of Gering; grandchildren, Misty and Justin Fisher of Drake, LCPL Josh Ruzicka currently serving in Iraq, Ryan Ruzicka of Hastings, T.J. and Amanda Rowlee of Mitchell and Shurell Rowlee of Gering; great-grandchildren, Jared Rowlee and Kadyn Slattery; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Jo Ann Rowlee of Bayard; step-sister, Susie Haberman and her husband, Norm of Mitchell; step-brother, Ted Tucker and his wife, Carol of Omaha; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, stepfather, Lewis Tucker, and stepbrother, Gary Tucker.

Mary B. Sanger
MORRILL — Mary B. Sanger, 89, of Morrill, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place at The Jolliffe Funeral Home Crematory in Scottsbluff. Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 5, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Timothy Sparks officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill.
Mary Birdie was born March 28, 1916, in Morrill, the daughter of Frederick William and Effie Loretta (Layton) Becker. She received her education in the Morrill Schools. She was united in marriage to Charles Wesley Sanger on March 24, 1939, in Denver, Colo. The couple made their home in Lyman and rural Morrill areas all their married life.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Brethour of Morrill, Patricia Richter of Worland, Wyo., Donald Sanger of Bayard, Joyce Lockett of Lawrence, Kan., Frieda Sanger of Tacoma, Wash., Bonnie Stephens of Springfield, Ill., and Leonard (Roberta) Sanger of Sedalia, Mo.; stepdaughter, Gladys (Jerry) Bowen of Morrill; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Becker of Morrill; sisters, Norma McCoy of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jean Ann Webb of Morrill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Charles, Howard, and Harold Becker, and sisters, Annabelle Layton, Bertha Marcum, and Elsie Hann.

Rhonda Joy (Giles) Dobbs
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Rhonda Joy (Giles) Dobbs, 52, of Casa Grande, Ariz., began her journey to eternal life on Sunday, April 3, 2005, at RTA Hospice Hospital in Casa Grande. Services were held on Thursday April 7.
Rhonda was born on October 15, 1952, in Scottsbluff, to Woody M. and Emma J. (Altig) Giles. She received her education and graduated from Gering Senior High School in Gering.
She enjoyed crocheting, shopping, and was involved with the churches prayer team at New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene in Casa Grande. She loved her cats and the great outdoors.
Rhonda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Survivors include her husband, Russell Dobbs of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sons, Troey and wife, Heather Jones of Salem, Ore.; Travis S. Jones of Hillsboro, Ore.; daughter, Tracy and husband, Jay Soto of Forest Grove, Ore.; stepson, Levi Dobbs of Scottsbluff, and stepdaughter, Lacie Dobbs of Scottsbluff. She is also survived by sisters, Loretta Hoffman of Scottsbluff; Lynda Morrison of Gering; and sister-in-law, Ramona Giles of Gering. Rhonda’s nine grandchildren are: Miranda, Valerie, Rebecca and Hunter Jones of Salem, Ore. and Zachery, Jessie, Adam, Joseph, and Daizie Soto of Forest Grove, Ore.
Rhonda lived life to the fullest, served her Lord, and will be missed by all who knew her!
Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, Woodie M. Giles, her mother, Emma J. Giles and her brother, Wayne M. Giles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rhonda’s name may be made to New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 915 North Avenue, Casa Grande, AZ 85222.

Marilyn J. Halstead
Marilyn J. Halstead, 78, a Kimball resident, died at Kimball Health Service on Saturday, April 9, 2005. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Rev. Roger Gillming officiating. Inurnment will follow the service in the Kimball Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to either the Kimball Health Services Foundation or Prairie Haven Hospice. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements
Marilyn June Halstead was born in St. Joseph, Mo. on May 29, 1926, the daughter of Ralph and Genevieve (Nelson) Dillon. She moved with her family to Kimball at a young age. She attended school in Kimball and graduated from the Kimball County High School at the age of 16. She worked for the Kimball County Treasures Office then she went to work for Kimball County Welfare, which later changed to Nebraska Health and Human Services. She was married to Dale Halstead on April 7, 1968 in Kimball. She was actively involved and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, APHE Extension Club and the Stampin-Up Craft Club, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She volunteered at the Kimball Public Schools and the Kimball County Hospital as well as helping at the Nebraska Health and Human Services. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale on June 10, 2002, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Bill and Teri Stairs of Snohomish, Wash. and David and wife Suzanne Stairs of Chambers; two daughters, Sharon and husband Jerry Williams of Kimball, and Diane and husband David Waters of McMinnville, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; two step-sons, Larry and wife Cindy Halstead of Marbleton, Wyo., and Terry Halstead of Denver; four step-daughters, Leanne and husband Dave Guenther of Negaunee, Mich. and Nancy Halstead, Jeri Hays and Annette and husband Gary Morgan all of Kimball; nine step grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren

Charlene ‘Charley’ Mae Rader
Charlene “Charley” Mae Rader of Gering, mother of Joe (Carol) Rader of Enfield, Conn., Bob (Marie) Rader of Gering and Janet (Dennis) Spencer of North Platte, Neb. died Friday, April 8, 2005 at Wel-Life in Scottsbluff. She was 73 years old.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.
Friends may call Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and an hour prior to the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.dugan kramer.com.
She was born on April 28, 1931 in Bevier, Mo., to Charles and Josephine (Guffy) Royer. She attended Macon County, Mo. public schools. She was baptized into the Christian faith as a child.
She married Robert S. Rader on May 18, 1948 in Nebraska City. They lived in Nebraska City, Omaha, Blair and Ogallala, before moving to Gering in 1970. She retired as a baker from Scottsbluff High School.
She was a friend of Bill W.’s for 18 years. Her joys were sewing, enjoying nature and spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her three children; brother, Jim (Phyllis) Royer of Nebraska City; sister, Virginia Slightom of La Plate, Mo.; grandchildren, Tammy Meyers (Shayne) of Uncasville, Conn., Robert (Mary) Rader of Enfield, Conn., Becky (John) Semancik of Enfield, Conn., Jason (Kate) Rader of Crete, April (David) Hessler of Wellington, Colo., Heather (Ronn) Coon of Delevan, N.Y. and Amber (Scott) Earhart of Curtis, Neb.; great grandchildren, Emilly, Ryan and Amanda Rader, Hannah and Emma Meyers, Andrew Semancik, Anakin Hessler, McConnor and Dakota Coon, Jade and Jessi Earhart and Samuel Rader. Also she is survived by special friends Del and Shirley Krauter of Ogallala, Sharon and Alan Doll and family of Gering and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Audrey Rohr.
