Marilyn "Micki" J. Reavis
04/08/1933 - 9/19/2004

Marilyn “Micki” Joyce Reavis, 71, of Gering, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19th, 2004 at Northfield Villa Med Center. Family Graveside Services for Micki will be on Friday, Sept 25th at 3 p.m. at West Lawn cemetery in Gering, Nebraska. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff with The Very Reverend Gary Young officiating. A light lunch and friendship in the parish hall will follow service.
Marilyn was born April 8th, 1933 to Irvin and Olga (Fiedler) Parrish of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Marilyn grew up in Scottsbluff and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1951. Marilyn married J. Mickey Reavis on May 4th, 1952 and remained in the Gering valley until 1958 when they moved to Inglewood, California. In 1959, son Sean Mickey was born and 1962 they had a daughter Erin Leigh. In 1965, Marilyn and Mick returned to Gering to their roots.
Micki was employed by Gentry Clark Medical Center/Horizons West Medical Clinic for 33 years as a clinical nurse. She was Past President and member of her PEO Chapter EV, Sisterhood. Micki loved people and loved to help others. She was an active member of both St. Timothy’s and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Over the years she volunteered in the Hospital Gift Shop, served as President of the Women’s Association of the Nebraska Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors and JayCees. She was an active contributor to the valley and a supporter of the arts in the community while remaining active in her children’s and grand children’s activities.
Micki joins her husband J. Mickey of 36 years in eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Verna, brothers, Earl, Leonard, Melvin, and her father in law John Reavis.
Survivors; Her son, Sean and his wife Laura, and her three grand sons, Mathew, Mitchell and Max of Omaha, Nebraska., her daughter Erin and her husband Andy Reed, and their children Carlye and Olivia of Rancho Murieta, California, and three step grandchildren, Paige, Mariel, and Andrew Jr.. Her mother in law Irma Reavis of Gering, Mick’s brothers Lee of Lake Elisnor, California, Bruce, his wife Peggy of Gardnerville, Nevada, their children, Lisa and Kim; Sister Irene Reece of Corona, Arizona; Sisters in law Helen Parrish of Dublin, Ohio, Paula Antrainer of Florissant, Missouri.

Frances May Krueger
04/01/1909 - 3/9/2004

Frances May Krueger, 94 formerly of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 in Shelby Township, Michigan. Frances had been living with her son Roy in Ray, Michigan.
A funeral service was held at the Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township, Michigan on Friday, March 12. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
Frances was born on April 1, 1909 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Frank and Mary (Yanda) Cerveny. She received her early education in Kimball, Banner and Scottsbluff Counties. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1928 and later received a teaching certificate from Chadron State College. She was an elementary teacher in the North Platte Nebraska area. Frances married Jack Krueger in Lusk, Wyoming on May 5, 1935. He preceded her in death in January of 1990. She worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas during the war. When she lived in Gering she was a member of the Gering Methodist Church and active with the women’s organizations. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Pioneer Birthday Club.
She is survived by her sister Florence Seals; her son Roy and his wife Connie and three grandchildren Michael (Kelli) Krueger, Stacy Krueger and Diana (Jeff) Shewchuk. She also has two great grandchildren Danielle and Gabriel Krueger.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George, Frank and Alvin and sisters Mary Clema and Margaret Schmidt.

Leona Rogowski
01/27/1911 - 3/12/2004

Leona (Shepherd) Rogowski, 93 of Gering, Nebraska died Friday, March 12, 2004 at Heritage Health Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering. A rosary will be Monday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Memorials have been established to the Christ the King Catholic Church or to Prairie Haven Hospice. Visitation will be Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Leona was born on January 27, 1911 in Brownlee, Nebraska to William and Catherine (Shanley) Shepherd and baptized on November 13, 1911 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Brownlee. She graduated from the catholic school in Alliance. Leona worked at the grocery store and the bank in Alliance. She married George Rogowski on June 24, 1967 in Alliance, moving to Ogallala that same year. In the early 1990’s Leona moved to Gering.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting.
Leona is survived by three sons-in-law, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and children Pat, Mary, George, Bob and Marge.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
A rosary will be Monday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.

Gerald Stengel
12/18/1923 - 3/8/2004

Gerald “Jerry” Francis Stengel, 80, Gering died Monday, March 08, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff surrounded by his loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 12, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harr officiating. A vigil service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Interment will be at Oregon Trail Memorial Park cemetery in Bridgeport with military honors. Memorials have been established to the family. Visitation will be Thursday 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
He was born on December 18, 1923 in Sutton, NE. to George and Elsie (Andersen) Stengel. He moved from Sutton to Bridgeport in the late 30’s. Jerry entered the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He married Alice Miles of Sidney on June 14, 1948 in Harrisburg. They lived in Bridgeport and raised their children. He pitched for the town of Dalton baseball team from 1947-1957. In 1968, they moved to Gering, where he was a carpenter for 30 years and retired from Rusch Construction.
Alice was the love of his life of 55 years, where they both went on fishing trips together and did other outdoor activities. Jerry loved to go out to the ballparks and watched his children and grandchildren play softball. He was also a devoted husker fan and loved the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife Alice, Gering; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Robert Parker, Cheyenne, Wy., daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Randy Homer, Lincoln, son Jerry “Butch” Stengel, Gering, son John Stengel, Terrytown, daughter Mary Stengel, Cheyenne, daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Mike “Dingus” McKee, Gering, son and daughter-in-law Scot and Bobbi Stengel, Scottsbluff; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and favorite dog Meeko.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and two sons.
Memorials have been established to the family.

Alex Meter
09/06/1911 - 3/2/2004

Alex Meter, 92 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, March 02, 2004, at Heritage Health Care Center.
His funeral service will be held Friday, March 5, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gering Zion Church in Gering with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be in Creighton Valley cemetery near Melbeta. A memorial has been established to the Gering Zion Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Alex was born on September 6, 1911 to Nick and Alice (Hartung) Meter. He moved to the Minatare area at the age of three months with his parents, where he grew up and received his education.
He married Emma Kaufman March 5, 1934 in Gering. They moved to Creighton Valley, where he farmed, fed cattle and raised horses. He lived in this valley until his death. In 1974, he received the Farm Family Picture Award honored by the North Platte Natural Resources District. He retired at age 80. Alex and Emma were planning to celebrate their 60th anniversary on March 5.
He was a member of Gering Zion Church since 1934.
He is survived by his wife Emma; son and daughter-in-law Don F. and Shirley Meter of Gering; daughter and son-in-law Jane D. and Jerry Winkler of Florida and daughter Janice L. Meter of Gering; grandchildren Tyler Winkler, Marty Pruitt and Shelley Spratt and great grandchildren Shermana, Riley, K.L. and Sierra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and two grandsons.
A memorial has been established to the Gering Zion Church.

Keith M. Misner
04/08/1931 - 2/29/2004

Keith Marvin Misner, 72 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center.
His funeral service will Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 501 Winter Creek Drive, Scottsbluff with Bishop Dillon Feuz officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Keith was born on April 8, 1931 to Milo and Lillie (Dittman) Misner in Gering, NE. He grew up in the Gering area and attended Gering Schools. On September 15, 1951, he married Margaret Horst at Bridgeport, NE.
He worked at Western Union in Scottsbluff, delivering telegrams by bicycle. Beginning of 1951, he worked for Swift & Company for 26 years until their closing. Since his retirement, he has done tv & vcr repairs.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1960. He served as Scout Master for many years in the church and held many other callings.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of 52 years; sons Tim (Cindy) Misner of Gering, Mike (Trish) Misner of Gering and Kevin Misner and special friend Dawn Kirklin of Scottsbluff; daughter Pam Vega of Scottsbluff; grandchildren Shawn Misner of Granby, CO, Brooke (Jeremy) Dollarhide of Scottsbluff, Kara (Jordan) Berger of Windsor, CO, Tiffany (Morgan) Muzzey of Ft. Riley, KS (currently serving in Iraq), Erica Misner of Minatare, Jill Vega and fiancé Kevin Pruitt of Laramie, WY, Aaron Misner and Kayla Misner of both Harrisburg, Jessica Vega of Scottsbluff and David Misner of Gering; great grandchild Dyson Dollarhide of Scottsbluff; His grandchildren and his dog, Mia were his pride and joy. Sisters Naomi Lopez of Bellingham, WA and Peggy (Dale) Carrell of Scottsbluff also survive him. Special friends Clarence and Bea Crabill of Gering.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be made to the church and the American Heart Association.

Lane Richard Schenbeck
10/05/1925 - 3/20/2004

Lane Richard Schenbeck, 78, of Gering, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastors Linda Battello, James Irwin and Arlie Schenbeck officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn cemetery in Gering. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9a.m. until 8p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004.
He was born October 5, 1925 in Scottsbluff to Alva and Pearl (Hungerford) Schenbeck. Lane received his education in the Gering Public Schools. He married Blanche Cheney on June 12, 1943 in Gering. Over the years he had farmed, owned and operated a trucking business and was employed with Associated Grocers and Lockwood for twenty years each. Lane served with the Civil Service Commission from 1975-1979.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering, a life member of the Elks Lodge #1367 in Scottsbluff, a member of the Moose Lodge #459 in Scottsbluff, Ducks Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Lane enjoyed Hunting and Fishing, gardening and yard work, feeding his birds and serving as a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.
He is survived by his wife Blanche of Gering; sons, Tony Schenbeck of Littleton, CO and Greg (Jan) Schenbeck of Chadron, NE; sister, Norma (Max) Harmon of Hamilton, MT; brothers, Homer (Shirley) Schenbeck of Denver, CO; Arlie (Pauline) Schenbeck of Scottsbluff; sister, Marlene (Ervin) Reifschnieder of Aurora, CO; brother, Kent Schenbeck of Colorado Springs, Co and sister, Judy (Dale) Harding of Billings, MO; grandchildren, Deb (Raymond) Vernon of Lincoln, NE; Mike (Susan) Schenbeck of Erie, CO; Kevin Schenbeck of Chadron; T.J. (Tracy) Schenbeck of Highlands Ranch, CO; Colby (Amy) Schenbeck of Wishek, ND; Kyle Schenbeck of Chadron and eleven Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Scottie Schenbeck and daughter-in-law Donna Schenbeck.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9a.m. until 8p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004.
A memorial has been established to The First United Methodist Church in Gering or to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Ernest L. Messersmith
06/29/1943 - 3/25/2004

Ernest Lee Messersmith, 60, of Gering, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday March 29, 2004 at St. James Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Barry Warpness officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn cemetery in Gering. The Ernest L. Messersmith Memorial Fund has been established.
Friends may call at Gering Memorial Chapel between 1-6:00 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be closed.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Teresa Messersmith of Wood River, NE; daughters and sons-in-law: Beth and Eric Lindberg of Redington, NE, and Debbie and Jim Rose of Bayard, Ne; six grandchildren; Mother: Martha Messersmith of Gering, NE; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Mark and Marty Messersmith of Council Bluffs, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Friends may call at Gering Memorial Chapel between 1-6:00 p.m. Sunday. The casket will be closed.
