Mildred Nedine Skinner

Nedine Skinner, 75 of Gering, Nebraska died Monday, October 11, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Gering with Rev. Carol Ann Bullard and Bob Manasek officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Nedine was born on March 4, 1929 in Trenton, Nebraska to William Edd and Grace (Davis) Riley. She graduated from Trenton High School on May 21, 1946. She had Normal Training. Nedine taught one year at a country school. She was united in marriage to Ira Neil Skinner on March 23, 1947 in Trenton. She enjoyed her grandchildren and family and also her church family very much. She was a member of the St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Gering and the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), and she enjoyed Gering Senior Center.
In May of 2003, she took a giant step moving out of her home of 47 years to Dome Rock Manor, just one block away. She had many friends at the Dome Rock Manor.
She is survived by her daughters Harriett Jay of Lincoln, NE and Collette and husband Greg Suhr of Gering; son Thomas and wife Nancy Skinner of Scottsbluff; seven grandchildren: Neil Jay, Andrea Jay, Autumn Jay, Zach Skinner, Tenica (Skinner) Fritton, Jeane Suhr and Grant Suhr; two great grandchildren: Adrian Fritton and Christian Skinner; sisters LaVerna and husband Hugh Amann of Atwood, Kansas, Lolita and husband Jerold Biehl of Lexington, NE. and Linda and husband Gary Wooters of Ponca City, OK and brother Lynn and wife Sharon Riley of North Platte, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ira Skinner, sister Edna Frick, brother Paul Riley and son-in-law Phillip Jay.

Dr. Walter C. Harvey

Dr. Walter Harvey, 80 of Gering, died Friday, October 15, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 22, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello and Rev. James Irwin officiating. Prior to the service, private family interment will be held at West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
Dr. Harvey was born in Gering on November 24, 1923, the son of Dr. Walter and Marcia (Hilliker) Harvey, Sr. He graduated from Gering High School with the Class of 1941, and continued his education at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He then went to the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, and took his internship at the Presbyterian Hospital in Denver. He was united in marriage to Mary Stauffer in 1945 in Oakland, Nebraska. Dr. Harvey served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1953, with active duty at Hastings Ammunition Depot, and then as senior medical officer aboard the Gen. Nelson Walker, a troop transport to and from Korea.
He served as Chief of Staff at both St. Mary and West Nebraska General Hospitals. He was active in the Scottsbluff Kiwanis Club, the Gering Methodist Church, Valley Voices, Community Concerts, and the Panhandle Art Club. He enjoyed many facets of music, his flower and rose gardens, painting and family travels.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife Mary of 59 years, daughters and sons-in-law Sara and Scott Christensen of White Bear Lake, MN, Jan and Jaymes Hubbell of St. Paul, MN, and Laurie and Greg Truog of Denver, CO.; grandsons Nathan and his wife Autumn, and Adam Hubbell of St. Paul, MN. Also his sisters Betty Jones of Harrisburg, NE and Gertrude Greene of Gothenburg, NE; brothers Boyd of Laguna Hills, CA and Arthur of Milwaukee, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law Morris Jones and John Greene.

Emma Jane Giles

Emma J. Giles, 94 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at WEL-life in Scottsbluff.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering with Pastor Brad Kilthau officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Emma was born on October 24, 1909 in Morrill, Nebraska to William Henry and Thressia (Harkin) Altig. She attended the Liberty High, Morrill and was a great athlete. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Morrill before marrying Woodie Mack Giles on September 28, 1941 at Harrisburg. She taught school at Hyland and McGrew. They moved to Gering in 1954.
Emma was a giving person to her family or a stranger; she loved family gatherings and was a great cook. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She enjoyed crocheting and playing bridge. She was in a sewing circle for the church and also in AWANA for several years. She loved to take painting classes and give her artwork to family.
Survivors include daughters Loretta Hoffman of Scottsbluff, Lynda Morrison of Gering and Rhonda Dobbs of Casa Grande, AZ; daughter-in-law Ramona Giles of Gering; sister Mary Croft of Ft. Collins, CO.; 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Woodie M, son Wayne, brothers and sisters Floyd Altig, John Altig, Mary Altig, Katie Griswald, Ester Haslick, Lillian Flock, Clarence Altig, Evert Altig, Mirtle Altig, William Altig, Homer Altig, Leslie Altig and three infants.

Esther M. Richards

Esther M. Richards, 82 of Gering, Nebraska died Sunday, October 24, 2004 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at Fairview cemetery in Scottsbluff.
She was born on July 18, 1922 at Banner County, Nebraska to Christian and Victoria M. (Wemhoff) Greisen. She graduated from Banner County High School and received her Associates Degree at the Scottsbluff Junior College. She taught at a country school in Banner County. She married
Claude Richards on April 1, 1946 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
She was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church and Altar Society. She volunteered at the Bargain Bin and for the Association of Retarded Citizens.
She is survived by her son Larry (Sofie) Richards of West Des Moines, Iowa, daughter June Karnes of Golden, CO., daughter Janet (Shelby) Martindale of Torrington, WY; son Charles Richards of Gering, NE, son Donald (Jeanne) Richards of Chadron, NE, daughter Pam Richards of Bokoski, OK; sister Bernadine (Stu) Shafer of St. Charles, MO; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren, two great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Claude, an infant daughter Lynette, her parents and eleven brothers and sisters.

A vigil service will be Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials have been established to the church or to the Special Olympics.
Clara Mae Conklin

Clara Mae Conklin, 79 of Gering, Nebraska died Monday, November 1, 2004 at her home.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Coop officiating. Inurnment will be at West Lawn cemetery. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory.
Clara was born on September 27, 1925 at Hyannis, Nebraska to Thomas G. and Nellie A. (Bohart) Judge. She graduated from Hyannis High School. She moved to Alliance to work as a telephone operator. On July 30, 1950, she married
Gene M. Conklin in Scottsbluff. She became a career Navy wife in 1956, when her husband re-enlisted, raising her family in Kansas, Maine, California, New Jersey, Alaska and Maryland before military retirement. They settled in Gering in 1972. She worked at McCosh Drug until her retirement.
She enjoyed her plants and flowers, reading, sewing and especially her family.
Survivors are her daughters Debbie Lautenslager and husband Al of The Colony, Texas and Marcie Williams and husband Rick of Lacey, Washington; sons Steve Conklin and wife Cheri of Loveland, Colorado and Phil Conklin and wife Debbie of Douglas, Wyoming; grandsons Marcus Conklin, Brett Lautenslager, Jonathan Conklin and Steve Spiedel; granddaughters Chris Richie and husband Duke, Hilary Conklin, Karah Spiedel and Nicole Williams.
Her husband Gene, son Michael and grandson Nicholas preceded Clara in death.

Lee Harrison Montgomery

Lee Harrison Montgomery, 17 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at his home.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Monument Bible Church, 4124 Avenue I, Scottsbluff with Pastor Jake Roberts officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be at Evergreen cemetery in Omaha.
Lee was born on November 14, 1986 in Omaha, Nebraska to Larry and Diane Kay (Johnson) Montgomery. He was a senior at Gering High School. He loved cars, music and was well liked at school. Lee especially loved his twin sister and his family.
Survivors include his father Larry of Gering; sister Christina and husband Harley and sister Jenny all of Gering; maternal grandparents Faye and Donald Johnson of Omaha; aunt Donna Johnson of Omaha, aunt Kara West of Iowa, uncle Randy and wife and uncle David and wife all of Scottsbluff and uncle John and wife of Alliance and numerous other aunts and uncles.
He preceded in death by his mother Diane, uncle Mike Montgomery, grandfather John Harrison and grandmother Willa Dell.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A candle light vigil will be held Friday at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the family.
Family invites friends to the Eagles following the service.
Eleanor Clara DeMott

Eleanor Clara DeMott, 91, of Gering, died Thursday, November 04, 2004 at Beverly HealthCare in Scottsbluff. Services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 10:00 am at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
She was born in Kearney, NE, on October 4, 1913 to Marion J. Graham, and Rebecca L. Rose. The family moved to Gering, NE, where Eleanor attended school, graduating in 1931. She married
Norman R. (Buzz) DeMott in Harrisburg, NE on September 30, 1934. She was employed by the F.W. Woolworth Corp., Montgomery Ward, and the United Telephone Company.
She was an avid bowler and enjoyed collecting silver spoons from around the world. She was active for many years in the Gering Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Gering.
She is survived by son Norman and daughter-in-law Barbara; son Clayton G. and daughter-in-law Linda; 4 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and special friends Gene and June Acklie.
Her parents, husband, twin sons, three sisters, six brothers, one daughter-in-law, and a grandson precede her in death.
Memorials have been established to the Gering Senior Center.
