James Patrick Bauer
3/17/1962 - 12/21/2004

James Patrick Bauer, 42, of Gering died Tuesday, December 21, 2004, near Scottsbluff.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev. Linda J. Battello officiating.
Jim was born to Alvin and Beth (Lucas) Bauer in Scottsbluff on March 17, 1962. He graduated from Gering High School in 1980. Jim was an Eagle Scout, who enjoyed canoe trips with his dad. He enjoyed working at Ledbetters throughout high school. He attended Southeast Technical Community College in Milford, NE, graduating in 1982 with an Associate Bachelors Degree in Machine Tool and Die. Jim worked in cable construction for TCI and Cable USA for several years. In 1992, he and his business partner opened TeRay Jewelers, where he worked in jewelry design and repair. Jim loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with friends.
Survivors include his parents; Alvin and Beth Bauer of Gering; sister and brother-in-law: JoAnn and William Lathrop of Gering; brother and sister-in-law: William and Janet Bauer of Gering; and nieces Lindsey and Shana Lathrop and Erin, Meagan and Victoria Bauer.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles and Helen Lucas and John and Pauline Bauer.
Memorials to the Laramie Peak Boy Scout Camp or First United Methodist Church in Gering.

Donald "Don" A. Geil
11/05/1914 - 12/30/2004

Donald Don A. Geil, 90 of Gering, Nebraska died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center.
His graveside service was held Monday, January 3, 2005 at the West Lawn cemetery with Pastor Ron Nuss-Warren officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the Donald A. Geil memorial fund in care of Gering Memorial Chapel.
Don was born on November 5, 1914 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Charles A. and Farrah Mae (Chinn) Geil. He served in the Army National Guard from 1932 and was honorably discharged in 1940. He graduated from the Arts Center of Los Angeles with an Assoc. Degree. He married Kathrine M. Beaird on July 3, 1940 at Los Angeles. The couple made their home in Albuquerque, NM, where he taught art and had his own painting and decorating business. They lived in Albuquerque for many years raising their family and was very active in the 4-H program. After Don retired, they moved to Santa Maria, CA. Don and Kay were both very active in the 1st Presbyterian Church in Santa Maria and also was a member of the Los Padres Artist Guild
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Vickie Ann (Geil) and Bob Perce of Bosque, NM and son and daughter-in-law Gerry and Marlene Geil of Iuka, Miss.; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and sister Gladys Edgar of Gering.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathrine on July of 2004 and two brothers Gordon and Chester.

Monday 9:00a.m. to 10:30a.m.

Rev. James K Irwin
11/09/1917 - 12/31/2004

Rev. James K Irwin, minister emeritus, 87 of Gering, Nebraska died Friday, December 31, 2004 at Regional West Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering. Cremation will follow the service..
Jack Howard Slater, son of Gladwin and Hilda Slater, was born on November 9, 1917 at Blackfoot, Idaho.
He was adopted by Mr. & Mrs. Hugh C. Irwin on June 7, 1920 and was given the name James K Irwin. The family moved from a homestead south east of Kimball, Nebraska to Alliance, Nebraska in 1920. James attended school there, and graduated from High School in 1936.
In 1937, he enrolled in Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln, Nebraska from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941. In September of 1941 he enrolled at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ from which he graduated in 1945 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree.
He was united in marriage on May 26, 1943 to Elizabeth (Bette) Felver at Phillipsburg, NJ and to this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters.
Following graduation from Seminary, they moved to Nebraska where they made their home until there retirement. Since their retirement in 1982, they have divided their time between Gering, Nebraska and Tempe, Arizona.
Jim began his ministry at Ithaca, Nebraska, in September of 1938, where he served as Student Pastor from 1938-1941. He has served the following churches since then: Associate Pastor and Youth Director, Roselle Park, NJ 1942-43, Columbia-Hainsburg, NJ 1943-45, Ceresco-Ithaca, NE 1945-49, Chester-Hubbell, NE 1949-54, Valentine, NE 1954-63, Lexington, NE 1963-70, Holdrege-Ragan-Wilcox, NE 1970-74 and Gering, NE 1974-82.
Since his retirement in June of 1982, he was involved in fund-raising for West Nebraska General Hospital and Nebraska Wesleyan University on a part time basis. He has served as Interim Pastor at Plymouth Congregational Church and Salem Congregational Church both in Scottsbluff several times. And he has filled pulpits whenever needed all over Western Nebraska. For several years he did pastoral work in the Dayspring United Methodist Church in Tempe, Arizona, during the winter months,
His Honors include: Honorary President of Oregon Trail Days, Admiral in the Nebraska Navy, Trustee at the Regional West Medical Center and Pastor Emeritus of the Nebraska Methodist.
Jim has been involved with volunteer work of one kind or another since retirement.
He is survived by his wife Bette; sons James K Irwin, Jr of Columbus, NE., David Paul Irwin of Sumner, NE and Stephen Richard Irwin of Grand Island, NE; daughters Christine Irwin of Gering, NE, Mary Irwin of Scottsbluff, NE and Beth Kumpost of Anchorage, Alaska; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his sister Jacquline Carrell of Ft. Collins, CO; half brother Allen Slater of Lynnwood, WA and a half sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Wednesday 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Gering.

Irene May Shaw
08/15/1912 - 4/25/2004

Irene M. Shaw, 91, of Gering, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Regional West Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 29, at the Gering Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Mead and Pastor Mike Mead officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
Friends may call at Gering Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and prior to the service on Thursday.
She was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Ravenna, to Fred E. and Mynete M. (Goodwin) Shrader. She received her early education in the Ravenna and Litchfield schools and graduated from Litchfield High School with a teaching certificate.
She married Vern L. Shaw Oct. 31, 1931 in North Platte. Irene and Vern made their home in Arthur County, ranching from 1931 to 1942. They moved to Gering in 1942, settling on acreage west of town. Irene’s life centered on her home and family. She raised five children and later enjoyed her many grandchildren.
Irene worked in various restaurants in the area and then began her 25 years with United Telephone Company as an operator. She retired in 1973.
She and Vern spent time traveling, enjoying their family and their vacation home in south Texas.
She was a member of Gering Baptist Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, where she served as Past President, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Charter Member of Navy Mothers of America, in which she was very active, holding various offices on the local and state level.
She is survived by her children, Del and Bev Shaw of Alamogordo, N.M., Art and Cyndi Shaw of Amenity, Ark., Howard and Donna Shaw of Boulder City, Nev., Don and Lavern Allbaugh of Gering, and Lyle and Judie Shaw, also of Gering; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Vern; parents; grandchild, Brian L. Shaw; and five brothers; and three sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
9 A.M. until 8 P.M. Wednesday, April 29, 2004 and from 9a.m. until noon on Thursday.
A memorial has been established to Gering Baptist Church.

Emma Meter
07/06/1917 - 1/9/2005

Funeral Services for Emma Meter, who passed away at the age of 87, January 9, 2005 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gering Zion Church with Rev. Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be at Creighton Valley cemetery.
She was born on July 6, 1917 to Jacob and Amalia (Trout) Kaufman in Melbeta, NE. She lived in the Gering Valley and Creighton Valley all of her 87 years. She was married to Alex Meter on March 5, 1934, who preceded her in death, March 5, 2004. They had been married 70 years. Emma and her husband lived in the same area and farmed over 60 years. Emma was very active in church and Sunday School. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years and was a member of the Zion Guild for many years, she also served the organization whenever called upon.
Her true love of life was for her husband and family. Emma had many hobbies. She will be missed very much be her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Don and Shirley Meter and daughter Janice Meter all of Gering and daughter and son-in-law Jane and Jerry Winkler of Florida; grandchildren Marty, Tyler and Shelley and great grandchildren Riley, K.L., Shermana and Sierra; brother Raymond Kaufman; sister Helen Klein; step sisters Gladys, Betty and Viola; step brothers Robert and Albert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin grandson and step brother.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Tuesday 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to noon
A memorial has been established to the Gering Zion Church, where she has been a member since 1934.

Martin T. Munoz
01/01/1934 - 1/8/2005

Martin T. Munoz, 71 of Gering, Nebraska died Saturday, January 8, 2005 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery. A rosary will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
He was born to Martin Munoz, Sr. and Nicolasa Torres on January 1, 1934 and was raised in Catarina, Texas by his parents Elpidio and Nicolasa Arizmendez. He migrated to Nebraska and met and married Juanita Hernandez in 1955. Following her death, he married Donna S. Lundstrom in 1995. He enjoyed farming, fishing, gardening and baseball and having coffee with close friends.
Survivors include his wife Donna; children Christopher and Debra Munoz of Oregon, Patrick and Michelle Munoz of Scottsbluff, Alice Castillo and Richard and Mary Munoz of Colorado, Sylvia Munoz, Becky Munoz, Martin Jr. and Cinda Munoz, and Lawrence and Amanda Munoz all of Gering; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Francisco and Lupe Munoz, Amparo and Joe Gomez, Mary and Lupe Hinojosa of Gering and Joe Arizmendez of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his step children Ed Lundstrom, Joe Lundstrom, Mary Munoz, Pat Lundstrom, Robert Prue.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Juanita H. Munoz, parents Martin Munoz , Sr.
Elpidio and Nicolasa Arizmendez, brothers Tacho and Joseph Munoz, sisters Amada Gomez and Carmen Munoz and granddaughter Naomie Chantel Munoz.

Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Grace Charlotte Patrick
05/30/1916 - 1/13/2005

Grace Charlotte Patrick, 88 formerly of Mitchell, NE. died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at the Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, January 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Howard Roseberry officiating. Interment will be at Mitchell cemetery. . Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Grace was born on May 30, 1916 in Ashby, Nebraska to Thomas L. and Maude (Noah) Hale. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Dwane L. Patrick on November 7, 1946 in Scottsbluff. Grace was employed at the City of Mitchell and retired in 1987 at the age of 71 years.
In her retirement she enjoyed painting, which many of her paintings were exhibited at various places. She was an excellent cook and loved to play bridge. She especially enjoyed playing bingo at many places.
She was a member of the Federated Churches in Mitchell and the C.C. Circle, American Legion Auxiliary in Mitchell.
Grace was a very loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and she enjoyed her family very much.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Vaughn and Debbie Patrick of Gering and daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Pat West of Bridgeport; grandchildren Ron Patrick, Kim Patrick, Cully Patrick and special friend Angie Fanders and Gregory West; step grandchildren Wesley Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Doug Thompson and Ashley Thompson; seven great grandchildren and one sister Merle Helling of Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dwane, brothers Fred Hale, George Hale, Floyd Hale, John Hale, Donald Hale, Charles Hale, Wayne Hale, Bobbie Hale and an infant brother; sisters Lois Richardson and Mary Lue Hale and great granddaughter Alivia Marie Patrick.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the Northfield Villa Medical Center.
