Mikayla Grace Weimer
05/31/2001 - 4/29/2004

Mikayla Grace Weimer, 2, of Gering, went to play with Jesus in Heaven on Thursday, April 29, 2004. She was surrounded by all of those who loved and cared for her. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May, 3, 2004 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Fr. Jim Golka officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Anamosa, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy or to The Golden Halo Foundation. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a family prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2004 at the Gering Memorial Chapel. Tributes of sympathy may be left at www.geringchapel.com
Mikayla was born on May 31, 2001 to Derek and Michelle (McGreevy) Weimer in Denver, Co. She lived in Gering, Nebraska with her loving family. Mikayla was born with semibar holoprosencephaly but it did not define whom she was or how much she was able to accomplish. Mikayla greatly exceeded everyone’s expectations of her and was a perfect example of patience and determination. Mikayla’s life started as a small spark and through the past 3 years it has become a wildfire of hope, love, and peace. She has truly inspired everyone to perform to his/her best potential and live life to the fullest. We thank her for showing us the things in life that are truly important.
Mikayla was our gift from God and proof that the most powerful lessons come in small and unassuming packages. To have spent a minute with her was to love her. Her life touched everyone who knew her or of her in a way unique to each individual. Her spirit touched deeply and will always be with all of us. She loved her sisters and her Di Di. She loved her therapy, therapists, swimming and riding horses. She will be missed greatly but never forgotten. Godspeed your journey, Peanut.
She will be loved and remembered by her parents Derek & Michelle; sisters Kollyn and Elizabeth; “brothers” Christopher & Anthony Ellis; adopted parents David and Diane Ellis; grandparents Keith and Rebecca Weimer of Anamosa, IA.; grandparents Michael & Sherry McGreevy of Anamosa, IA.; Grandma Mary Saucedo of Morrill; great grandparent Durward & Irene Weimer of Farmer’s Valley, PA.; great grandparents Robert & Elnora Paulson of Olin, IA; Aunt Krisanne Weimer of Omaha, NE.; Uncle Todd & Aunt Betty Weimer of Lisbon, IA.; Uncle Jon & Amber McGreevy of Shell Rock, IA.; cousins Rhonda, Bekah and Chuck Butler of Lisbon, IA.
Among those waiting for her in heaven: “Grandpa” Saucedo, Great Grandpa and Great Grandma “Butch” & Wanda McGreevy and Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Hugh & Charlotte Fry.
Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a family prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2004 at the Gering Memorial Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy or to the Golden Halo Foundation.

Lorene Smith
07/08/1910 - 1/18/2005

Lorene Smith, 94 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in Scottsbluff.
A private family graveside will be at the West Lawn cemetery. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Northfield Villa Chapel in Gering with Pastor Charles Beard officiating.
Lorene was born on July 8, 1910 in Banner County, Nebraska to J. Roy and Ella (White) Baker. She graduated from Gering High School in 1928. She married Theodore Ted T. Smith on May 17, 1930 in Bridgeport, Nebraska. She taught school for 2 years. Later she worked at the Platte Valley Services & Loan for 25 years retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering and the United Methodist Women. She was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 133, a past member of the Business Professional Womens, Toast Masters and the Sunshine Club in Mitchell and was Past President of Oregon Trail Days. She played in several bridge clubs.
Survivors include her son Dr. Wayne E. Smith and wife Bettie of Lakewood, CO.; grandchildren Kimberlee Snowdon of Colorado Springs, CO. and Bradley Smith and wife Judy of Arvada, CO.; great grandchildren Lindsay Smith, Nikki Smith, Evad Snowdon, Madaline Snowdon and Macie Snowdon; brother Edwin Baker of Gering and special friend Dorothy Emmons of Gering.
Her husband, brother Roy E. Baker and sister Lenna E. Rumble preceded her in death.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Gering

Stella Delois Winterer
03/30/1924 - 1/23/2005

Stella Delois Winterer, 80 of Gering, Nebraska died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Northfield Villa Med Center.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday, January 27, 2005at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Northfield Villa Chapel in Gering.
Stella was born on March 30, 1924 in Alliance, Nebraska to David C. and Rose (Buske) Outson. She attended grade school and high school in Lisco, graduating in 1941. Following graduation, she attended Hastings Business School. She was united in marriage to Irving Leo Winterer on January 26, 1944 in Lisco, Nebraska. The couple then caught a train to Durham, NC, where Leo was stationed awaiting deployment to Europe.
Stella worked for seven years for optometrist, Dr. Whittaker, later worked for 23 years for the Scotts Bluff County Health Department.
She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church. She taught vacation bible school and served as church secretary for several terms.
Stella enjoyed needlework, crossword puzzles and spending time at the cabin in the mountains. She loved her family and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Erma and Willard Rusch of Scottsbluff; son and daughter-in-law Kerry Winterer and Norma Hansen of Omaha; grandchildren Rebecca Rusch, Grant Winterer and Martha Winterer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Wendell Outson and Wayne Outson, and special cousin Erma Barnwell Fewell.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials suggested to the Calvary Lutheran Church, Northfield Villa or to the Prairie Haven Hospice.

John Olvera
05/31/1952 - 1/24/2005

John Olvera, 52 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Monday, January 24, 2005 at his home surrounded by family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery. A Rosary will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
John was born in Julesburg, Colo. On May 31, 1952. At a very young age, he along with his brother Joe Martin Luz were sent to live with their aunt and uncle, who raised them as their own. While living there he was raised with his cousins whom he considered his brother and sister. He married Connie M. Perez of Denver, Colorado on Jan. 24, 1976. They have three children together.
He attended school in Gering until he graduated from Gering High School in 1970. He attended UNL for 2 years on a scholarship. He started working at Lockwood Corp in 1972, eventually leaving in 1990 to begin work with Chicago North Western Railroad. He continued working for the CNW even after it was bought out by Union Railroad. He worked as a train engineer until his illness no longer allowed him to work.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus. John and his family were members of Christ the King congregation. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and personality.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, children and other family and friends.
John was a loving husband, father, and grandpa who is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Yolanda Olvera-Hernandez (Frank) of Scottsbluff; sons Juan Olvera of San Diego, CA and Orlando Olvera of Gering; grandchildren Deshon and Alex Hernandez, Angelica, Ayden and Josiah Olvera; brothers Joe Martin of Mitchell, Candelario Soto of Gering; half brothers Joe Jr., Frank and Jessie Cruz and half sisters Linda and Rita Cruz all of Denver and numerous nephews and nieces.
Proceeding John in leaving this world were his mother Mary Soto; his uncle and aunt Candelario and Nellie Soto whom he loved dearly. Also his sister Lisa Soto and his grandfather Martin Soto who he also missed and loved dearly.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia J. "Jane" Entrekin

Patricia “Jane” Entrekin
Patricia Jane Entrekin, 79, of Kansas City, MO. passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Foxwood Living Center; Raymore, MO. A Memorial Services memorial service will be held in Gering Memorial Chapel, Gering Nebraska on June 1, 2004 at 10 am with burial to follow at West Lawn cemetery. Tributes may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Topeka, KS and was married to Robert L. Entrekin, originally from Gering, NE. Following several relocations with the Air Force and government Robert and Jane returned to Scottsbluff in 1963. She moved to Kansas City in 1980 where she was with family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Entrekin of Kansas City, her sons
Robert Entrekin (Anne) of Casper, Wyo. Ronald B. Entrekin (Vickie) of Santa Paula California and a daughter Georgia E. Dittmeier (William) of Kansas City. She had 4 granddaughters; Amber Entrekin, Jessica Zmijewski (Daniel), Emily Taylor (Gregg) and Elizabeth Goff (Jon) and 3 great grandsons; Evan Taylor, Gavin Taylor, and Luke Zmijewski. The family wishes to express thanks for all those who cared for her during her last five years at Foxwood.

Goldie A. Howard

Goldie A. Howard, 96, of Gering, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering. Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. at West Lawn cemetery in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating.
Friends may call at Gering Memorial Chapel from 1 P.M.-8 P.M. Tuesday and from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M Wednesday.

Goldie was born December 17, 1907 to Charles Wesley and Huldah Adeline (Haynes) Randall on the Randall homestead north of Scottsbluff. She lived in Lander, WY until 1920 and Le Grand, IA until 1923 when they moved to Scottsbluff. She attended high school and business-college at Scottsbluff and was employed by Fleisbach Clothing Store and later the McManagle Variety Store. She married George Arbuckle Howard June 18, 1927 in Scottsbluff. They moved to Gering in 1930.
Goldie joined the Methodist Church at Lander, WY in 1918 and the Royal Neighbors in 1925.
She is survived by her daughter: Carolyn Thompson of Gering, NE, son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Kenneth and Dorothy Rice Howard of Ogallala, NE, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by, her parents, husband, son Charles, three brothers and one sister.

Doris E. Ross
08/27/1920 - 6/4/2004

Doris E. Ross, 83, of Gering, died June 4, 2004 at Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering. A memorial service will be held at 3.00 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Northfield Villa with Reverend James Rowe officiating. Entombment will be at the Garden of Faith Mausoleum in Mesa, Arizona. Friends may call Tuesday, June 8, 2004 from 9a.m. to 8p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
She was born August 27, 1920 at Sentinel Butte, ND on the family farm. She was the ninth of thirteen Children born to George and Cora (Hayward) Franzen. After much determination she graduated from Sentinel Butte High School in 1940, being the first member of her family to receive a high school education
She married Virgil A. Ross on November 23, 1940 at Wibeaux, MT, and to this union two children were born. They made their home in Powell, WY until 1974 when they moved to Mesa, Arizona. After her husband's death in 1999 she moved to Gering to be near family.
Doris was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed ceramics and baked the best cinnamon rolls in the world! She enjoyed taking her grandchildren camping and fishing. After moving to Gering, Doris got to know her great grandchildren and found great joy in attending and participating in their activities.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Gene McCaffrey of Gering; daughter-in-law Janell Ross of Longmont, CO; grandchildren Gregg (Cathe) McCaffrey of Alliance, NE; Gail Cacciavillani of Gering, Todd (Diane) McCaffrey of Worland, WY; Michelle (Marcos) Pacheco of Albuquerque, NM; Jeff Warren of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren Stephanie and Kristin Cacciavillani, Kyle and Niki McCaffrey, Sarah and Jake McCaffrey, Amanda and Lauren Pacheco; brothers Gene Franzen of Cody, WY and Charles Franzen of Lewistown, MT;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil, 10 brothers and sisters, son Larry and granddaughter Robyn Warren.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Friends may call from 9a.m. until 8p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Prairie Haven Hospice.
