Ruth Iva Munshaw
12/10/1916 - 6/28/2004

Ruth Iva Munshaw, 87, of Gering, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Heritage Health Care Center. Graveside services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Dalton cemetery in Dalton with Rev. Eldin Wells and Bud Gillespie, PA officiating.
Ruth was born December 10, 1916 in Douglas, WY to Alvin and Etta (Wright) Adair. She grew up and received her education in several Western Nebraska communities. In 1935 she married John O. Muhr and two sons, Wesley and Charlie, were born to this union. She later married Lawrence “Friday” Folden who preceded her in death. She married Earl Munshaw who also preceded her in death on June 25, 2000. She attended nursing school at the Alliance Hospital and worked at the Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff until moving back to Dalton. Ruth has been a resident of Heritage Health Care for the past seven years.
Ruth was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dalton, was a cub scout leader, a member of the Dalton Garden Club, Order of Eastern Star, a Ritual Team Member of the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Lion’s Club Auxiliary. Ruth loved to travel, hunt, fish and garden. She always had beautiful flowers and seemed to be able to make anything grow.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughters-in-law: Charles and Barbara Muhr of Gering, Ne and Eva Muhr of Morrill, NE, stepdaughter and her husband Peg and Jim Troidl, of Dalton, NE; grandchildren: Kim and Jeff Becker of Scottsbluff, Linda and Tom Lawrence of Fountain Hills, AZ, William and Josie Muhr of Morrill, NE, Eldon and Thelma Muhr of Alliance, NE, Glenn and Lori Muhr of Harrisburg, NE and Gene and Kathy Muhr of Morrill, NE, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Lawrence “Friday” Folden and Earl Munshaw, son, Wesley Muhr, brothers: Carl Adair, Faye Adair, Melvin Wheeler and Marvin Wheeler, stepson Rick Munshaw and an infant grandson.
Visitation: Gering Memorial Chapel
Friends may call between 1:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday and from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday.
Memorials to Farm and Ranch Museum, Faith Lutheran Church in Dalton, NE or to Prairie Haven Hospice.

Audrey Lorraine Eckhoff
01/15/1912 - 7/3/2004

Audrey Lorraine Eckhoff, 92, of Gering, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the Northfield Villa Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 9, at the Northfield Villa Chapel with Pastor Nancy Tomlinson officiating. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Archer Evangelical Community cemetery at Archer, Neb.
Audrey was born Jan. 15, 1912, five miles northeast of Ames, Iowa, to George Fay and Maude Ellen (Stuart) Taylor. She received her education in Ames and graduated from Ames High School. She married Dean E. Eckhoff on Sept. 6, 1935, in Ames. Audrey was employed with the National Park Service, the Methodist Church, in both Central City and Scottsbluff, and was the secretary of the LPN school in Alliance.
Audrey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff and enjoyed reading and sewing.
Survivors include her daughter, Lois N. Eckhoff of Littleton, Colo.; brother, Noel B. Taylor, of Grinnell, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Dean and brothers, Maurice, Ralph and Lloyd.

Fred "Fritz" Haler
02/27/1922 - Thursday, February 09, 2006

Fred “Fritz” Haler, 83 of Gering, Nebraska died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at West Lawn cemetery in Gering with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Cremation was at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory.
Fred was born on February 27, 1922 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Carl Haler, Sr. and Katherine Elizabeth (Maul) Haler. He attended Gering Schools and worked at sugar factory and the beanery. He enjoyed riding his bike.
Survivors include his brother Jacob Haler of Scottsbluff, numerous nieces and nephews including Peter George Haler of Buffalo, WY and cousins Norma and Roy Stroh, Greg Stroh all of Sidney, Monica Rutherford of San Francisco, CA and Ken Stroh of Minden, NE and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pete, John, Henry, Herman, and Carl Jr.; four infant brothers; sister, Anna Sell and infant sister.

Leland L. Buehler
09/03/1927 - Sunday, April 09, 2006

Leland Buehler, 78, of rural Gering died Sunday morning at Regional West Medical Center. After several months of declining health, he died of complications from a stroke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 with the Father Gerald Harr officiating. A vigil service will be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitations will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Leland was born September 3, 1927 to Carl and Leona (Hawbaker) Buehler in the house in Gering Valley in which he lived 60 years of his life including the last 40. He was educated in the Gering school system serving as president of his 1945 graduating class. He married Josephine Stoll on June 3, 1950 and they farmed in Gering Valley all their lives.
Leland was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge. His activities and interests included fishing, golf, bowling, horseshoe pitching, playing cards, spectator sports and playing croquet from his wheelchair. He served as director on the board of Roosevelt Public Power District and as a 4-H and FFA leader and grade school coach.
Leland is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine; two sisters: Lorine Zitterkopf of Northfield Villa in Gering and Kathleen (Lloyd) Durfee of Mitchell; three sons and two daughters: Kent (Linda) Buehler of Gering, Neil (Julie) Buehler of Belmont, Michigan, Wynne (Terri) Buehler of Gering, Ann Rodgers of Imperial Beach, California, and Cathy (Jason) Margheim of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wallace.
Memorials in Leland's name may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.

Frank L. Madison
05/09/1930 - Monday, May 22, 2006

Frank L. Madison, 76, passed away Monday, May 22, 2006 at his home.
A memorial service will be held on June 10, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Scottsbluff with Pastor Ray Venghaus officiating. At later date, his cremains will be placed at Pierce Chapel cemetery in Clarks, NE.
He was born May 9, 1930 in Clarks, NE. to Frank and Lottie Madison. He attended elementary school at Clarks and rural District 50 in Merrick County. He graduated from high school at Central City, NE., received a B.S. degree from Nebraska Central College at Central City and obtained a Master’s and Specialist’s Degree from the University of Nebraska.
Frank served in the Army in the occupation of Germany for 18 months as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict.
He was a teacher, coach and principal at Chapman, NE., Silver Creek, NE., and Harrisburg, NE., Superintendent at Gurley, NE. and for the final thirteen years at Banner County School, in Harrisburg, NE. He retired in June of 1989 after 35 years in the Nebraska Public Schools.
On August 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Betty Petzoldt at Grand Island, NE.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, N.E.A., N.S.E.A., School Administrator’s Assoc., Lions Club, Elks, Phi Delta Kappa, Knights of Pythias and Scottsbluff Area Retired Teachers Assoc.
He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and enjoyed his family immensely. Also loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, golf and was an avid horseshoe pitcher for many years.
Frank’s final tribute to his Mother - She kept a family of eight children together after my brother and father died a week apart in the spring of 1931. She was a truly remarkable, strong and wonderful person – Thanks Mom!
He is survived by his wife Betty of Gering; son Rick (Mary) of Kenosha, WI; daughter Joni (Alfio) of Des Moines, IA; granddaughters Sarah, Ann and Laura of Kenosha, WI, Courtney and Danielle of Des Moines, IA, step grandson Brian Giavannini of Austin, TX; brother Andy Madison of Walsenburg, CO.; sisters Alice (Lewis) Dunn of Osceola, NE. and Opal McCormick of Orange, CA. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church or to Banner County Dollars for Scholars.

James G. Acker
12/20/1924 - Tuesday, May 16, 2006

James G. Acker, 81 of Gering, Nebraska died Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 19, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Jim was born on December 20, 1924 in Alliance, Nebraska to George and Helen (Beeson) Acker. He attended school in Alliance, graduating from Bayard High School in 1942. He entered the United States Army Air Corp on April 18, 1944 and served during WWII and was honorably discharge on November 17, 1945.
He married Helen Pullen and to this union they had four children. Later he married Bonnie Ebberson on Feb of 1957 and had four children.
Jim was a truck driver and a salesman. He worked for the Great Western Sugar Factory for over 25 years retiring in 1988.
He was an active member of the A.A. He also was a member of the DAV, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes, fishing and telling jokes. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie; children Karen (Lloyd) Bairn of Gering, Barb (Gene) William of Cheyenne, Jim (Pam) Acker of Cozad, Jaynie (Brian) Wells of Swansea, IL and Donna (Bill) Sterkel of Gering; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter; brother George Acker of Limon, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his three sons Billy, Gary and Bob; grandson Greg Bairn; sister Theresa Helen; brothers Joseph and Lawrence, parents and grandparents.
Memorials have been established to donor's choice.

John A. Flaten
12/20/1928 - Monday, April 03, 2006

John A. Flaten, 77 of Gering, Nebraska died Monday, April 3, 2006 at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.
A private family graveside will be held Thursday at West Lawn cemetery with The Very Reverend Gary Young officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska National Guard and the American Legion Post #36, Gering.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel
John was born on December 20, 1928 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Olav N. Flaten, Sr. and Marie (Smith) Flaten. He graduated from Gering High School in 1947. He entered into the United States Navy on June 28, 1948 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1952 in Seattle, Washington.
He married Janice Rooney on August 22, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
John was employed for a building material supply business in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was a Gering Jaycee when they first started the organization; Past Adjudent and Past Commander of Gering American Legion Post #36, Past President of Gering Kiwana’s Club, and a member of the VFW. He was a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and the Vestry and Senior Warden of the church.
John was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his son Nicolas and wife Carol Flaten of Treynor, Iowa and his daughter Ellen and husband John Scholting of Bellevue, Nebraska; grandchildren John Flaten, Kathryn Flaten, John Scholting, and Joshua Scholting and two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Olav Flaten, Jr.
Memorials have been established to the American Legion Post #36, Gering or to the family.

Miguel "Mike" D. Valdez
07/28/1961 - Monday, May 22, 2006

Miguel “Mike” D. Valdez, 44 of Gering was called Home by our Heavenly Father on Monday, May 22, 2006.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Vance Williamson officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Mike was born on July 28, 1961 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Hipolito Valdez, Sr. and Soledad (Delgado) Valdez. He attended school in Haig and graduated from H.E.P. in Lincoln.
Mike worked in the beet fields along with his family later going to work for Packardland, he was force to retire due to his illness, which left him disabled and later blind.
Mike was free spirited always enjoying life as it was given to him with a great sense of humor. He was a caring and loving son, brother, father and friend.
He will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.
He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, dancing, spending time with his family and friends and always joking around.
Survivors include his mother Soledad Valdez of Gering; brothers and sisters Joe Valdez and Tony Valdez both of Souix City, Iowa, Lupe Almendarez of Chicago, Ill, san Juanita “Janie” (Francisco) Gonzales, Hipolito “Polo” (Mickey) Valdez of Gering, Raul “Rudy” (Bonnie) Valdez of Scottsbluff, Carlos (Sylvia) Valdez of Lincoln, NE., John Valdez of Gering, Isreal (Lisa) Valdez of Gering, Iliana Juergens of Columbia, SC and Melanie (James) Sanders of Enterprise, Alabama; sons Julian Valdez of Segine, TX and Michael Valdes of Gering; daughter Vanessa Valdez of Lincoln and two granddaughters of Segine, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Hipolito, Sr.; infant son Tony; sister Bertha Valdez; brothers Gilbert, Ruben, Emilio and Mike Valdez; nephew Richard and maternal and paternal grandparents.
