Lowell Wayne Brewer, 72
(Jan. 6) HEMINGFORD - Lowell Wayne Brewer died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at his home in Warner Robins, Ga. He was 72. He was born March 16, 1928, at Crawford, Neb., to Carroll and Zelda Brewer.
He married Darlene M. Prochazka on August 17, 1949, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford. She preceded him in death. He served in the Navy during WWII. He retired from Boeing after 25 years in Wichita, Kan. He also worked in civil service from Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.
His survivors are his sons, Larry Brewer of Huntsville, Ala., Gregory Brewer of Macon, Ga., Douglas Brewer of Lizella, Ga., and daughter Cheryl Turner of San Antonio, Texas and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hemingford. Father Hugh Spanel will officiate. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. A wake service will be Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Bridget Church. Lois V. Pedersen, 77
(Jan. 4) ALLIANCE - Lois V. Pedersen, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Highland Park Care Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Alliance to Charles and Hulda (Kruse) Pedersen.
She worked for 39 years as a bookkeeper for Alliance National Bank. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Marilyn Pedersen of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and nieces Gay Holliday of Phoenix, Ariz. and Karen Pedersen of Tampa, Fla.. Her parents and brother Charles Pedersen, Jr. preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Alliance Cemetery, with Reverend Martin T. Schnare and Reverend Richard C. Mueller officiating. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, P.O. Box 21, Alliance, NE 69301. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary G. Hoffman, 91
(Jan. 4) IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - Mary Gertrude Hoffman, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the Life Care Center. She was born Oct. 6, 1910 at Denver Colo. her parents were Frank and Mamie (Wolf) Brown.
She attended and graduated from Alliance High School. She was married to Raymond Hoffman at Alliance. He preceded her in death. She had lived at Denver, Colo., Deadwood, S.D., Alliance, Ravenna, Los Angles, Calif., and Cheyenne, Wyo., prior moving to southeast Idaho. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Clark of Shelley, Idaho; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Mary Novick of Indianapolis, Ind.
Mrs. Hoffman's memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at Nalder Funeral Home at Shelley, with Fr. William Crowley of Christ the King Church officiating. Her ashes will be interred at Fielding Memorial Cemetery at Idaho Falls. Memorials have been established to The Life Care Center at Idaho Falls, Christ the King Church of Idaho Falls, or the donor's choice.
Ferne Irene McMurtry, 98
(Jan. 4) SCOTTSBLUFF - Ferne Irene McMurtry, 98, of Scottsbluff died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in Scottsbluff. She was born March 17, 1902, at Amherst, Neb. Her parents will William and Mary (Jordon) Fellow.
She grew up in Amherst, and graduated from Amherst High School. She attended Normal School, and then taught at Old Stanley School in Amherst. She was married to Claude E. McMurtry on Dec. 19, 1922, at Great Falls, Mont. Mr. McMurtry died in 1970. The couple lived in Sweetwater, Neb., before moving to Ravenna. In 1941, they moved to Hastings where she became a salesperson for the Farmers Life Insurance Company. In 1948, they moved to Scottsbluff where she worked for J.C. Penney Company for many years, and continued to sell insurance. She was a member of the Scottsbluff Berean Church.
She is survived by her sons, Jim McMurtry of Scottsbluff and Gary McMurtry of Gering; her daughters, Mellie McMurtry of Alliance and Ruth Hauschild of Ravenna; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McMurtry's funeral was Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Mike McMurtry and Pastor Steve Demoret officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Margaret J. Hamilton, 81
(Jan. 10) SIDNEY - Margaret J. Hamilton, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at memorial Health Center. She was born March 3, 1920, at Crook, Colo. Her parents were John P. and Mary (Nelson) Reynolds.
She attended school at Crook and St. Agnes Academy at Alliance where she graduated as valedictorian in 1937. She was married to Elden Hamilton. She worked as an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone at Alliance until her transfer to Sidney in 1961. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Legion of Mary and the Altar Society. She is survived by son Frank Hamilton of Northglenn, Colo.; daughters Julie Anciaux and Marjorie Meyer of Sidney; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hamilton's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at St. Patrick's Church, with Fr. Jim Novadowski officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A Wake service will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at St. Patrick's. A memorial has been established to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ralph D. Louthan, 86
(Jan. 10) LYMAN - Ralph D. Louthan, 86, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his home. He was born May 23, 1915, at Elwood. His parents were William G. and Sara Estella (Wagner) Louthan.
He moved to the Crawford area in 1929 where he spent most of his younger years. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during World War II. He married Wilma Allison Oct. 30, 1948, at Alliance. The couple lived on a ranch north of Crawford, later moving to Lusk, Wyo., and then to Scottsbluff in 1963. In 1972 they bought a farm south of Stegall where he ranched until his death. He is survived by his wife Wilma Louthan of Lyman; son John Louthan of Thermopolis, Wyo.; daughter Connie Vander Stoep of Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Louthan's funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Scott Mathis and Michael Meysenburg officiating. Burial with military honors by Michie McKeown Post No. 124 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Banner County will follow the service. Visitation will be from 1.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at the mortuary. Memorials may be sent to the family.
Samantha Leigh Worth, 15
(Jan. 11) SCOTTSBLUFF - Samantha "Sam" Leigh Worth, 15, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at her home in Scottsbluff. She was born Feb. 24, 1985, at Scottsbluff. Her parents were William Taylor and Jodi Janelle Worth.
She attended Westmoor Elementary School, Scottsbluff Middle School and was a sophomore at Scottsbluff High School. She was involved with Camp Scott since her youth.
She is survived by her mother, Jodi Worth of Scottsbluff, and father, Bill Taylor of Rapid City, S.D.; brother Ryan Ackerman of Alliance; and sisters Whitney Worth of Scottsbluff and Makayla Taylor of Rapid City. Her survivors also include her paternal grandparents John and Pat (Taylor) Bauer of Alliance; maternal grandparents Jack and Carol Worth of Scottsbluff; aunt Brenda Saltzman of Alliance; and cousin Justin Saltzman of Alliance.
Her great grandparents John and Amelia Nagel and George and Mary Woith preceded her in death.
Ms. Worth's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made in her name to Prairie Haven Hospice, Make A Wish Foundation of Nebraska, or to the family.
Frances Evans, 87
(Jan. 11) GORDON - Frances Evans, 87, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Gordon Countryside Care. She was born June 13, 1911. Her parents were Charles and Mary (Hoffman) Hall. In 1926, she moved to Gordon with her father and two siblings.
She was married to Roy Evans on Dec. 6, 1928, at Martin, S.D. Mr. Evans preceded her in death. She worked for many area cafes and Gordon Memorial Hospital. She then worked at the Gordon Senior Center nutrition site until February 1998. She was member of R.S.V.P.
She is survived by her daughter, Isabelle Louden of Gordon; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Evans' funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Chapel in Gordon, with Rozanne Fry, missionary, officiating. Burial; will be in Gordon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gordon Rescue Squad, in care of First National Bank, P.O. Box 290, Gordon, NE 69343.
Corrine M. Barnes, 80
(Jan. 13) ALLIANCE - Corrine M. Barnes, 80, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance. She was born Oct. 28, 1920, at Hisle, S.D., to Felix and Jenny (Nelson) Lone Wolf.
She was a member of Indian Mission Church of God where she served as an Elder and the American Indian Council. She worked for 10 years as a nurses aide at St. Joseph's Hospital and for 11 years at the Indian Mission Store.
Her survivors are her children, Percy G. Youman of Scottsbluff, Barbara A. Arnakin of Anchorage, Alaska, Felix C. Youman, Margaret R. Nussbaum and Timothy J. Barnes Jr. of Alliance, sisters, Dorothy Tilden and Angeline Whiteface of Norfolk, Neb., 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Timothy J. Barnes, Sr. an infant daughter, sisters, Julie Poor Bear, Catherine Dubray, Emma Monroe, and Matilda Lone Wolf brother, George Lone Wolf, Thomas Lone Wolf, preceded her in death.
A two-night wake service will begin Sunday at the Indian Mission Church of God. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Alliance. The Rev. Donald Mink and Rev. Simeon Arnakin officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alliance Indian Mission Church of God, 119 S. Potash, Alliance, NE 69301. Emmajean Terrell, 76
(Jan. 13) CHADRON - Emmajean Terrell, 76, of Chadron died Friday, Jan. 12, at Chadron Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 19, 1924, at Veteran, Wyo. Her parents were Dr. George and Edith (Arnold) Haas.
She grew up and graduated from high school at Veteran, Wyo. In 1945, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mercy School of Nursing in Denver, Colo. She was married to Elvin J. Terrell on Dec. 11, 1945. In 1948, the couple moved to a farming unit at Mirage Flats, south of Hay Springs. She worked at Rushville Hospital, and became Director of Nurses at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs. She was a member of WELCA, St. Peter's Church of Hay Springs and later Immanuel Lutheran Church of Chadron, Christian Women's Club, Lunch Bunch and Birthday Club; and also donated her time to 4-H, Cub Scouts and PTA.
She is survived by her husband, Elvin Terrell of Chadron; three sons, Terry Terrell, Eldon Terrell and Vern Terrell, all of Chadron; two daughters, Joan Fenster of Alcova, Wyo., and Brenda Terrell-Brown of Canoga, Calif; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She also is survived by two sisters, Vivian Hill of Lingle, Wyo., and Mary Ellen Fullmer of Torrington, Wyo.; and two brothers, Bernard Haas and Howard Haas, both of Torrington, Wyo.
Mrs. Terrell's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chadron, with Rev. Allan Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Mirage Flats Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a Fine Arts Scholarship for a Fine Arts major, in care of Security First Bank, P.O. Box 340, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
Norman Little Hoop, 58
(Jan. 13) ALLIANCE - Norman S. "Chief" Little Hoop, 58, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Box Butte General Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1945, at Allen, S.D. to George and Alice (Plenty Bear) Little Hoop.
His family moved to Alliance in 1958. On April 18, 1961, he married Charlene Picket Pin at Alliance. He worked for Alliance Livestock and the City of Alliance. He is survived by his wife Charlene; sons, Jerome Little Hoop, Cliff Little Hoop, Norman Little Hoop, Carmen (Nicki) Little Hoop, Lonnie (Jennfer) Little Hoop, and Deze (Jennifer) Little Hoop; daughters Norma Nunez, Janet Little Hoop and Vernon Chavez, Brenda Cook, Elaine Little Hoop, Erica Little Hoop and Michael Perez; 24 Grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two nephews, Brian and Eldon Whitecrane. His parents, two brothers, two sisters, one daughter and a grandson preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Indian Mission Church of God in Alliance, with Rev. Don Mink and Sr. Linda Abold officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A two-night wake service began Sunday at the church. Memorials may be given to the church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
