Robert "Bob" B. McKee
04/06/1932 - Thursday, February 09, 2006

Robert B. McKee, 73 of Mesa, Arizona died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at his home.
His funeral service will be Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Cremation will follow the service. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2006 at Forest Lawn cemetery in Morrill with military honors by the Nebraska National Guard.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
Bob was born on April 6, 1932 in Henry, NE. to Burton and Eva (Morehouse) McKee. He graduated from school in Lyman, NE. and attended Nebraska Western Jr. College. He entered the U.S. Navy on April 26, 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 11, 1955.
Bob married Shirley Yvonne Sayre on May 21, 1954 in San Diego, CA. On November 17, 1978, Bob married Shirley (Butcher) Pieper in Cheyenne, Wy.
He worked for the Great Western Sugar Co., Jirdon Agri Chem in Morrill, and B & C Steel in Gering. He moved to Apache Junction, AZ in 1986, where he worked as a real estate agent, retiring in 2005.
Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting his family and friends and especially his 15 grandkids. He also enjoyed golfing, singing, bowling, shooting pool, softball, dancing and playing cards.
Bob is survived by his wife Shirley M. of Mesa, AZ; sons Michael “Dingus” and Nancy of Gering and Kelly and Gina of Puyallup, WA; daughter Terry Eisele and Dave of Lyons, CO; stepson Timothy and Joan Pieper of Torrington, WY; stepdaughters Diana and Nick Ehrman of Vancouver, WA and Sally and Jim McKenzie of Norfolk, NE; 15 grandchildren, sister-in-law Dely McKee and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet and brother Boyd.
Memorials may be given to the Banner Hospice, 1325 N Fiesta Blvd., Gilbert, AZ. 85233.

Manford Prickett
01/27/1922 - Sunday, February 05, 2006

Manford Prickett, 84 of the Western Nebraska Veterans Home, died Sunday, February 5, 2006.
At his request he was cremated. His memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Howard Roseberry officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Nebraska National Guard.
He married Verna Smith in Harrisburg, NE. He was a former member of the Gering Fire Department, Lyman Fire Chief, Village Board, Lyman School Board, Scout Master and Bluffs Strutters Square Dance Group.
Manford served in the Army during WWII. He was a plumber for many years and also refinished antique furniture for his Antique Store.
Survivors include his wife Verna, son Larry of Yuma, AZ, daughter Judy and her husband George Herman of Gering; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or to Western Nebraska Veterans Home.

Paula Diane Severson
06/07/1942 - Thursday, February 02, 2006

Paula Diane Severson, 63 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Thursday, February 02, 2006 at her home.
Her funeral service will be held Monday, February 6, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Zion Church with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel and an hour prior service at the church on Monday.
Paula was born to Paul and Edna (Layton) Grochowsky on June 7, 1942 in Gering, Nebraska. She attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated with honors (National Honor Society) from Gering High School in 1960. In addition, she attended Scottsbluff Junior College for a year and a half while working at Jack and Jill’s in Gering.
On August 27, 1961, Paula married Dean Gross of Mitchell Valley at the First Methodist Church in Gering. They spent the next 20 years farming and raising four children: Jody, Jim, Kevin and Brad.
Following Dean’s death in 1981, Paula worked at Brown’s Sheep Company in Mitchell, NE. She left there when she married Frank Severson of Gering n July 30, 1993. From that time she was a homemaker.
Paula enjoyed bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, and embroidering. Her real life joy was spending time with Frank, her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Frank, daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Bob Caudillo of Omaha, NE.; sons, Jim Gross of Gering and Kevin Gross of Mitchell; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Amy Gross of Gering; stepchildren, Stuart and Jenell Severson of Missoula, Montana, Rhonda and Rodney Truett of Killeen, TX, Kelly and Sam Flaten of Colorado Springs, CO, and Grant and Sylvia Severson of Gering; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Karen Grochowsky of Scottsdale, AZ; aunt and uncles, Mildred Cotton of Commerce City, CO, Bill and Dorothy Layton of Gering and Ruth and Kale Wright of Scottsbluff.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Dean Gross, her parents, her aunt Alta, and uncles John Layton, Henry Layton, Doug Layton and Dwight Layton.
Memorial gifts may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or to Gering Zion Church.

Dennis "Buss" R. Huston
03/05/1936 - Monday, January 23, 2006

Dennis R. “Buss” Huston, 69, of Gering, died Monday, January 23, 2006, at his home.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering. At his request, his remains were cremated at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory.
Dennis “Buss” was born on March 5, 1936 in Gladstone, Nebraska to Henry and Emma (Schoenrock) Huston. He spent his childhood years and received his education in Fairbury, NE. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1955.
In high school, Buss excelled in all sports and was recruited to catch for the Cincinnati pro baseball team and spent several months at their training camp in Georgia. An injury lead him back to Nebraska where he continued to play baseball and softball for many years in the Scottsbluff area.
Buss married Marlene Tinsley on May 26, 1961 in Scottsbluff, NE. He worked through out his life in construction and on missile bases in South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado.
He always enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was an avid sports fan. Buss also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Buss was known by people from all walks of life and always had a good story to tell. He will be sadly missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene; daughter Tera Willman and grandchildren Kenny and Katie of Gering; daughter Sandi (Jerry) Kleine and grandchildren Jordan, Jessica and Jamie of Grand Island; and daughter Debbie Huston of California; son Doug (Carly) Huston and grandson Cole of California; son Dan (June) Huston of California; sister Joyce (Gene) Herl of Fairbury, NE; mother-in-law Thelma Tinsley of Guernsey, WY; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vicki and Roy Lougee of Torrington, WY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Del and Sandy Tinsley of Casper, WY; numerous niece and nephews.
His parents, father-in-law Dewey Tinsley of Guernsey, WY and brother-in-law Kenneth Gehert of Fairbury, NE preceded him in death.
Memorials have been established to Prairie Haven Hospice, Gering Methodist Church or to Donor's choice.

Elizabeth Cook Wilhelm Sinner Sloma
01/14/1916 - Thursday, January 19, 2006

Elizabeth Cook Wilhelm Sinner Sloma, 90, of Scottsbluff, died Wednesday, January 19, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006 at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn cemetery in Gering.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Elizabeth was born January 14, 1916 in Gering, NE to Phillip Jacob and Katherine (Schuldies) Cook. She received her education in Gering Schools. In 1932 she married Henry Wilhelm who died on the 3rd day of their wedding party. In 1935 she married Johnnie Sinner. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1947. She married George Sloma in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1957.
She is survived by her daughters: Norma Stowell of Scottsbluff and Sandra Hutton of Greenville, AL, 2 grandchildren: Eldon and Kelly Stowell, 5 great grandchildren, and caretaker and special friend Pat Hort.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, son Melvin Sinner, daughter, Viloet Sinner , 2 sisters Eva Maul and Margaret Hergenrader and brother Phillip Cook.
In lieu of flowers, the Elizabeth Sloma Memorial Fund has been established.

Matilde "Matt" Escobedo Palomo, Sr.
03/14/1929 - Sunday, January 01, 2006

Matilde “Matt” Escobedo Palomo, Sr. 76, of Gering, NE. entered into rest on January 1, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center with his beloved wife Irma at his side.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery. A memorial vigil service will be Friday, January 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
He was born on March 14, 1929 in Alamo, Texas to Marcelo and Virginia Palomo. He married Irma (Flores) on January 5, 1950 in Harlingen, Texas. Matilde worked for 12 years as a roofer in the Rio Grande Valley. He was also a self taught musician and played the accordion and 12 string guitar. He used his talent to supplement his income playing in several Tex-Mex bands and performing “las mananitas” for private serenades. In 1965, he chose to leave his musical group to spend more time with his family instead of recording the group’s (Los Tigres Del Norte and Los Donenos) first record. Matilde was also a migrant farm worker and worked many fields in the South and Midwest. He settled his family in Gering in 1965 and worked for several farmers irrigating crops and as a field laborer. He spent his summers as a farmhand with the Tripple family who became close family friends. He worked as a foreman for Nebraska Potato Shippers during harvest and planting seasons, where he became a friend and mentor for many new immigrants to the area. He left Nebraska Potato Shippers in 1975 to begin his own carpentry business. Matilde took great pride in all his work whether it be his plentiful acres that he helped grow or the family patios he helped build. In 1997, Matilde developed a heart condition which forced him to retire. Matilde enjoyed relaxing by playing his accordion and guitar, watching baseball and boxing.
Matilde was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering and an auxiliary member of the Virgen de San Juan Parish in San Juan, Texas. He had great devotion for Our Lady of Guadalupe. He is survived by his wife, Irma; children Matt (Aurora) of Gering, Jane (Rick) Wadsley of Delevan, WI, Lupe (Henry) Madrid-Mirabel of McAllen, TX, Viviana (David) Deignan of Olney, MD, Bacilio (Karen) of Charlotte, NC, Irma (Michael) Gutherless of Gering, Flora (Thomas) Murillo, of Gering, Ruben (Donna) of Plano, TX, Veronica (Scott) Budlemann of DeWitt, NY, and Florencio of Brooklyn, NY’ His brothers Domingo (Teresa), Felipe, Benito all of Gering and Cruz of Colorado. His sisters Julia (Steve) Mendez, Vicenta (Luis) Ramirez, Pamfila (Manuel) Najares, Anastacia (Herman) Murietta and Marcelina (David) Enriquez; brothers-in-law Noe (Angelita), Andres (Aurora), Esteban (Fina) Flores all of Harlingen, TX; sisters-in-law, Celia, Rosa and Aurelia Palomo all of Gering, Aurora Carmona of Harlingen, TX , and 27 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, two infant daughters, two infant grandsons, two brothers, a sister and his parents.
Memorials may be given to the Christ the King Catholic Church.

John W. Abbott

John W. Abbott, 84, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home, Scottsbluff.
A funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 6, 2006, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home Chapel, Scottsbluff with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Interment will be in the West Lawn cemetery, Gering with military honors provided by Nebraska National Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at Gering Memorial Chapel, Gering.
John was born October 15, 1921, at Gordon, Nebraska to Madden James and Cora Bell (Gardner) Abbott. He grew up at Gordon. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1943. On March 16, 1945, he married Mary Shelly at Harrison, Nebraska. They lived at Gordon until moving to Scottsbluff in 1952. He worked at the Chevrolet Garage until he purchased his own shop in 1960. He owned and operated Abbott Auto Repair in Scottsbluff for 30 years. He also worked at Lockwood Manufacturing as a welder for a number of years. He then transported cars for car dealers until his retirement three years ago. On July 3, 1972, he married Harriet Stephens at Casper, Wyoming. His hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, boating and dancing.
Survivors include is children and their spouses, Janice (Leonard) Deines of Torrington, Wyoming, Linda (Leroy) Surgener of Scottsbluff; Betty (Tim) Curtis of Gering; Delona (Ron) Weil of Black Hawk, South Dakota, Rick (Kathy) Abbott of Melbeta and Marilyn (Les) Aringdale of Aurora, Nebraska; sister, Nellie Nielsen of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; second wife, Harriet Abbott of Scottsbluff; six stepchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; three infant children; three brothers, William, Ernest and Leonard; and sister, Velma Han.

Beulah Belle Hall
04/10/1920 - Monday, December 19, 2005

Beulah Belle Hall, 85 of Gering, died Monday, December 19, 2005 in her home with her beloved family by her side.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Beulah was born on April 10, 1920 south of Gering to Orville H. Bartow and Belle M. Osborne. The family lived on a dairy farm; Beulah often would tell tales about milking the cows, working the fields and going to the country school. The family moved north of Henry where she attended and graduated from Liberty High School.
Beulah married Henry Stratton on September 10, 1942 in Gering. To this union three children were born Roberta, Kenneth and Douglas.
She married Marion Raymond Terrell on December 1, 1954 in Gering. They had one beloved daughter Vonnie. Raymond passed away March 22, 1957 on the family ranch north of Bayard. The family moved back to Gering, where Beulah struggled to provide for her 4 children by working odd jobs. Her favorite fall occupation was working for Great Western Sugar as a scale lady at the Riford Beet Dump.
While working there she met her third husband Claud E. Hall. The couple were married March 14, 1963. Beulah was blessed with three step daughters, Joan, Cathy, and Rose and one step son Donald. Claud passed away October 27, 1984.
Beulah was a warm and caring mother and friend. She was a life time member of the United Methodist Church in Gering. Beulah was blessed with very caring friends from her church and she considered them her extended family especially Kathy Yost.
Beulah lived in her neighborhood for 41 years. She had wonderful neighbors whom she loved and cared deeply for, she considered the Merle McBride family her family they include Merle “Ed”, Jeff and Cindy, Terry, Sandra and Mark, Ken and Linda, Bill and Nancy and Todd and Sam. Without the McBride family Beulah’s life would not have been the same.
She was an active member of the Rebecca Lodge, L.A.P.M., LEA, Royal Neighbors of America and a past member of the Lady Auxiliary of the Panhandle Shrine Club. She held many offices in the organizations and took the teaching with her through our her life.
Beulah was an avid Nebraska fan. She and her son-in-law Mike had great times each and every time the Huskers played his team the Colorado Buffs. This year she had the last victory.
Thanks to all the nurses and care staff of the Regional West Medical Staff of the Restorative Care Unit – Joe and Sherry and the Prairie Haven Hospice especially her favorite nurse Clark, Kim and Pam for all the loving care they gave to Beulah. She loved “Her” Doctor Don Gentry and he made her life much better.
Beulah is survived by her daughter Vonnie, her husband Mike Cotant and their daughters and sons-in-law Amber and Chris Stewart and their daughters Ashleigh and Alexandrea, Crystal and C.J. Hefley and their children Britney and Ethan and Jamie Cotant; Cathy and Tony Lang and family; Joan and Rob Alessi and family and Rose and Jerry Baker and family; Her grandchildren, their spouses and children, Rick and Michelle Scott daughter Ashlee, Shelly Teague and children Ryan, Alesha, and Derek, Jeff and Roxanne Scott and children Chandra and Casey Kursave, Dalton and Justin, Kim and John Phillips, Sherylynn Stratton and daughter Angela, Diane Renker and children Manual, Jeffery and Shawn Valdez and Stephanie Renker, Tammy Stratton and sons Joshua Stratton and Cody Henschien, Charles Stratton and children Cody and Baily; Great great grandchildren grandchildren Angel Stratton and Caitlyn Scott; Sisters Margaret Lord, Ester and husband Dan Burris and Wilma and husband Willie Dillman, Her cousin and life long friend Velma Hannawald and special sister-in-law Josephine and her husband Norman Rudd, a special daughter-in-law Cheryl and husband Richard Lyod, special friends Jan and Dugan King, Lynda Scott and all her many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Raymond and Claud, her father Orville, mother Margaret, brother Richard Bartow and sisters Florence Etta Bartow and Helen Dierick and grandchildren Kevin Stratton and Mary Ann Cotant and dear friend Donna McBride.
A memorial has been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice, Panhandle Shrine Club or the Gering Volunteer Fire Department.
