William Edson Darbe
12/28/1927 - Tuesday, August 01, 2006

William Edson Darbe, 78 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Beverly Health Care.
His memorial service will be held Friday, August 4, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Military honors will be by the Nebraska National Guard. Cremation was held.
William was born on December 28, 1927 to William and Madeline S. (Ward) Darbe. He married Carole Bombard. He entered into the Marine Corp on July 23, 1945 and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged August 21, 1946. He moved to Gering in January 2000. He was an iron worker for 40 years. He was a Shriner, enjoyed football and baseball. His passion was his family and friends. Many from the community knew him as “Uncle Bill”.
Survivors are his children Cathy Persinger, Bill Darbe and Kathy Darbe, Bob (Jill) Darbe and Sheri (Roger) Schwartzkopf; grandchildren Billy Darbe, Ashley Persinger, Jenna Persinger, Brian Darbe, Kimberly Darbe, Ryan Schwartzkopf, Kaitlyn Darbe, Sara Schwartzkopf and Kristina Darbe and great granddaughter Alivia Darbe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Charles, Bob and Betty.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer Assoc.

A. LORENE GRIM

Lorene Grim, 90 of Gering, Nebraska died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.
Her graveside services will be Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at High Butte cemetery in McGrew, NE. with Pastor Howard Roseberry officiating.
Visitation will be Friday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
Lorene was born on May 11, 1916 in McGrew, Nebraska to John C. and Agnes Marie (Johnson) Grim. She graduated from McGrew high school in 1935.
She was a lifelong resident in the Horseshoe Bend Community until ill health forced her to move.
She was a member of the McGrew Goldenrod Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting.
Survivors include her brother Harlan Grim (Ruth) of Virginia Beach, VA; sister Dorothy M. Flint of Scottsbluff, NE. and nieces Susan Nalls of Norfolk, VA and Nancy Rein of Lincoln, NE.; nephews Keith Flint and John Flint both of Scottsbluff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles, Jack, Maurice, George and Francis Grim and infant sister.
Memorials may be given to the Banner County Historical Society or the Lyman Senior Center.

Ruben Funk
9/25/1919 - 8/8/2012

His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church, Farm & Ranch Museum and the Accent Care (Hospice).
Ruben Funk, 92 formerly of Gering, NE passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at his home in Thornton, Colorado.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Ruben was born on September 25, 1919 in Gering, NE to John Jacob and Pauline (Wegelin) Funk. He graduated from Gering High School in 1937. He entered the United States Army on September 29, 1943 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged on April 18, 1946. He was united in marriage to Lydia Schmidt on December 15, 1946 in Gering and to this union two children were born Sandra and Myron. Ruben farmed in the Gering Valley for 40 years. They moved to Gering then to Thornton, Colorado to be closer to family.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gering, served for the R.E.A., Dome Rock School Board and Farm & Ranch Museum.
Ruben enjoyed woodworking. He loved his family and will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife Lydia Funk; daughter Sandy Clayton of Thornton, CO; son Myron (Liz) Funk of Broomfield, CO; grandchildren Byron Clayton, Chris (Stacie) Clayton and Marc Clayton, Jr; one great granddaughter Brooklyn; two brothers Dan and David Funk and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Pauline Welton, Esther Lambi, Deborah Earl and John Funk.

Johnny Edward Stengel
12/25/1956 - 8/31/2012

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Father Gerald Harr officiating.
Family requests memorials be made in memory of Johnny to Valley Bank & Trust in Gering.
Johnny Edward Stengel, 55 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Father Gerald Harr officiating. Family requests memorials be made in memory of Johnny to Valley Bank & Trust in Gering.
Johnny was born December 25, 1956 at Bridgeport, NE to Gerald and Alice (Miles) Stengel. He received his early education at Haig School and attended Gering High School.
He was married to Toni Cripe on July 19, 1975 at Scottsbluff, NE and to this union was born two children Miranda Rachelle Stengel and Jeremy Shane Stengel.
He loved fishing and hunting. Johnny enjoyed playing softball with family and friends and was an avid Husker football fan.
Survivors include his mother Alice Stengel; daughter Mandy Stengel; son Jeremy (Heather) Stengel; sisters: Linda (Bob) Parker, Barbara (Randy) Homer, Mary Stengel and Nancy (Dingus) McKee; brothers: Jerry “Butch” Stengel and Scot (Bobbi) Stengel; grandchildren Jayme Estrada, Ace Johnson and Charleigh Stengel; nieces and nephews: KC McKee, Brad and Jarod Homer, Robbie Parker, James Estes, Jr., Ashley (Matt) Hessler, Bryttny Hageman, Chelsi Lemmon, Brenda and Marlene Parker, Debbie Russi, Shanna Kessler, Laci Lovato and Brittany Weaver and numerous great nieces and nephews; beloved friend Nancy Elliot and her son Colby (Aubrey) Elliot.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father Gerald Stengel and brothers Jimmy and Gary Stengel and infant daughter Maicie Stengel.

Adella B (Denke) Sorensen
8/26/1934 - 10/22/2012

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 10 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering with Pastor Richard Neugebauer officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, October 26 at Gering Memorial Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The casket will be closed at the church.
A memorial has been established to Faith Lutheran Church.
Adella B Sorensen, 78 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at RWMC.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 10 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Gering with Pastor Richard Neugebauer officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 26 at Gering Memorial Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The casket will be closed at the church. A memorial has been established to Faith Lutheran Church.
Adella was born on August 26, 1934 on a farm near Creighton, SD to Henry and Elizabeth (Drewitz) Denke. She graduated from High School in Wall, SD and attended nursing school and became an LPN. She worked for several years in nursing in SD and NE. In later years, she worked at the Gering Jr. High School for 18 years.
She was united in marriage to Harold Sorensen on March 2, 1968 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff.
She was a very active member of her church and liked gardening, canning, baking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren!
She is survived by her husband Harold Sorensen; daughter Wendy (Scott) Streeks of Bayard and their children Brandon and Tayley, and step-daughter Barbara Simmons and her children Jeremy and Nathan.
Brother Dan (Linda)Denke of Aurora, CO; sister Christina (Julius) Eisenbraun of Mitchell, SD and brother-in-law Wesley Dewey of Grand Island, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Sister Alice Dewey.

Susan Kay Sorensen Heine
8/28/1953 - 10/25/2012

Susan Kay Sorensen Heine, 59 of Gering, NE passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Gering. Memorials may be made in care of the local Kidney Foundation or Prairie Haven Hospice.
Susan was born on August 28, 1953 in Scottsbluff to Robert and Catherine (Greisen) Sorensen. She graduated from Gering High School and attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie. Susan married Lloyd Heine August 12, 1988. This marriage added Lloyd’s three children to the family.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd; three step children Dana Heine, Katherine (TJ) Batt and Sean (Megan) Heine all of Gering; sister Nancy Sorensen of Lexington, brother Brad (Brenda) Sorensen of York; brother-in-law Ernie (Vera) Heine of Scottsbluff; six grandchildren: Dakota J., Koros, Michael and Richard Gaede, Alexis Rohrick and Carson and Adison Batt and two nephews Brannon and Brett Sorensen of York.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents.

Tabea M Rein
8/6/1924 - 11/1/2012

Tabea M. Rein 88 of Gering, passed away Thursday morning, November 01, 2012 at Northfield Residency Health Care Center in Scottsbluff.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastors Tim and Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, November 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the chapel. Memorials may be given to Gering Zion Church or WNCC Foundation.
Tabea was born August 6, 1924, at Eaton, Colorado to George and Marie (Lorenz) Siegfried. In December 1928, the family moved to Minatare, Nebraska and then to Gering in February of 1935. She started her schooling at Fairview 50 and later attended Gering Public Schools. Tabea was confirmed in April 1939 at Scottsbluff Zion Evangelical Church. She married Jake Rein on January 16, 1944 at the Gering Zion Church. They farmed in the Gering Valley until they retired and moved to a home in Gering in 1990. Tabea was always at her husband’s side to help wherever she could and continued to be a part of the farming operations until her death. As a member of the Gering Zion Church, Tabea volunteered as a teacher and pianist for Sunday School, served as an officer of the Women’s Guild, and participated in the choir. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening, farming, reading and learning and jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her son Donald (Pamela) Rein; daughter Paulette (Michael) Yarnall; five step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; sister-in-law Mollie Siegfried.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband in 2009; brothers Reinhold and Ruben.

Sylvestre Landeros Savala
12/27/1923 - 7/31/2012

His funeral services will be held at Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Fr. Gerald Harr officiating.
Interment will be in Bayard cemetery in Bayard, Nebraska with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
A rosary will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Sylvestre Landeros Savala,88 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home.
His funeral services will be held at Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Fr. Gerald Harr officiating. Interment will be in Bayard cemetery in Bayard, Nebraska with military honors by the Nebraska Army National Guard. A rosary will be held Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Sylvestre was born on December 27, 1923 in Indiahoma, Oklahoma to Aristeo and Matilda (Landeros) Savala. He entered the U.S. Army on March 30, 1943. He toured in Rhineland, Central Europe, Rome-Arno and Naples Foggia. He received numerous awards and ribbons including: The Victory Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, 4 Bronze Campaign Stars, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and The Purple Heart while serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945. He met his love of his life on March of 1965, Esther Garcia and to this union they had four children, Raul, Anthony, Richard and Ramona. Sylvestre never met a stranger in his life, would always help anyone in any capacities. He enjoyed working and fixing old cars and loved being around his family. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 13.
Survivors include his wife Esther Savala; sons Raul Savala of Bayard, Anthony Savala of Gering, Richard Savala of Loveland, CO and daughter Ramona Savala of Gering; brother and sister-in-law Gabrie and Asencion Savala of Nogates, AZ.; sister-in-law Mary Sabala of Pueblo, CO and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Santos, brother Macario Savala; sisters Helen Chavez and Isabell Godina; granddaughter Tasya Savala and nephew James Mendoza.
