Lynda J. Beck, 52
(Jan. 13) MITCHELL - Lynda June Beck, 52, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at her home. She was born June 19, 1950, at Martin, South Dakota to Nyal and Edythe (Hathorn) Garner.
On Jan. 19, 1968, she was united in marriage to Larry Steffen. To this union three children were born, Lance, Libbie and LaRae. Her survivors are her son Lance Alex and wife Kara (Kotsiopulos) Steffen of Kearney; daughters and husbands, Libbie Lea and husband Michael Joseph Puncochar of Hay Springs, and LaRae Lynn and Michael Sean Flood of Kearney; grandchildren, Sophia Alana Steffen, Christopher Jerome, Jerrod Michael, Zachary Allan, Kaleb Joseph, Joshua Aaron, and Zane Rae Puncochar; her mother Edythe Garner of Alliance; sister Shirley and husband Bruce Herman of Boyd, Mont., brother Jim Garner of St. Cloud, Minn., sister Sherry and husband John Oliver of Gering, brother Monte and wife Marina Garner of Hyannis, sister Deb and husband Doug Zeller of Broken Bow, and her husband Steven Beck of Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Nyal Garner and nephew Brad Herman. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Bates-Gould Chapel at Alliance, with Rev. Craig Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15. The family will designate a memorial at a later date. Marvin C. Boyce, 59
(Jan. 14) GORDON - Marvin Charles Boyce, 59, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002. He was born July 29, 1942, at Glenwood, Iowa. His parents were Charles and Lucille Boyce.
He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Navy. He was a radioman on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bennington. He was honorably discharged in January 1965. He married Carolyn L. Hunt in September 1965. He was employed at Kellogg's at Omaha until 1971 when he began farming. In 1978, he moved his family to the Floyd Henderson Ranch north of Hyannis. In 1981, he began work for the Arnot Ranch and in 1982, moved to the McGinley Ranch near Merriman where he worked for 17 years. He then relocated to the Joy Unit of the Rex Ranch North of Lakeside. He was a member of the Merriman Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Lakeside; sons Michael (Theresa) of Akron, Colo., and Matthew (Denise) of Lubbock, Texas; daughter Amy (Ken) Demlow of Lincoln; three granddaughters and one grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Boyce's funeral was held Monday, Jan. 14, at Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier at Gordon, with Rev. mark Schutt of the Lakeside Methodist Church officiating. Burial and military rites will be in the Glenwood, Iowa Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society. Donations may be sent to Cicmanec-Chamberlain-Pier, P.O. Daniel Stubbs, 98
(Jan. 14) TUCSON, Ariz. - Daniel Stubbs, 98, died Jan. 8, 2002, in Tucson. He was born Oct. 30, 1903, in Superior to Frank Hales Stubbs and Avis Idona Long.
He married Margaret Ruth Davis, daughter of the former Governor of Idaho, David W. Davis, on Sept. 14, 1930. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and Harvard Law School. Capt. Stubbs commanded LST squadrons and flotillas in the European and Pacific theaters during WWII. He practiced law in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Nebraska Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Tax Court. He was a partner in the law firms of Davis, Stubbs and Healy in Lincoln and Stubbs and Metz in Alliance. He is survived by a sister, Frances Hill, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, John M. (Mike) Stubbs of Nashville, Tenn., David W. (Bill) Stubbs of Tucson; and Daniel F. (Tim) Stubbs of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
His ashes will be interred in the Columbarium of St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson next to those of his wife.
Louis J. Chleborad, 75
(Jan. 14) ALLIANCE - Louis J. Chleborad, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Regional West Medical Center at Scottsbluff. He was born Sept. 26, 1927, at Omaha, to Louis J. and Emily Chleborad.
He served in the U.S. Navy from August 1945 to August 1946. On Dec. 4, 1952 he married Joyce Pollard at Bridgeport. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles. His survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jan Chleborad of Lincoln; grandson Scott Chleborad of Alliance, granddaughter and husband Tiffany and Eric Nordmeyer of Omaha. He also is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Pat Chleborad of Belle Vista, Ark.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Chris and Joan Wayne of Denver, Colo. His parents and his wife preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Bates-Gould Chapel. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ermine A. Rhoads, 85
(Jan. 15) CHADRON - Ermine A. Rhoads, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 11, at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs. She was born June 8, 1915, at Dawes County, Neb. Her parents were Arthur E. and Sarah L. (Butler) Whitsel.
She was a member of Centennial Saddle Club of the Westerners, American Legion Auxiliary, Chadron Women's Club, and Painting Club of the Dawes County Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Rhodes of Chadron; son Arvid Rhoads of Denver, Colo.; daughter Garlan Rhoads of Arvada, Colo.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother, Ormund Rhoads of Rapid City, S.D.; and nephews Ralph Rhoads and Eddie Rhoads, both of Alliance.
Mrs. Rhoads' memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, with Pastor Red Romell officiating. Memorials may be made to Pioneer Manor of Hay Springs. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
Bernice M. Kubo, 90
(Jan. 15) CHADRON - Bernice M. Kubo, 90, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Chadron Community Hospital. She was born July 7, 1910, at Geneva, Neb. Her parents were Joe and Cecilia (Areradt) Schommer.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, RSVP, VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Ladies and Red Cross.
She is survived by her son Larry Kubo of Windsor; daughter Mary Louise Baker of Minnesota; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers, Henry "Hank" Schommer and Joe Schommer, both of Chadron; and two sisters, Annette Chenovick of Helena, Mont., and Francis Bausch of Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Kubo's funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Father Ed Cortney officiating. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Chadron Community Hospital Dialysis Unit, in care of Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337. Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
David V. Nepper, 65
(Jan. 15) ALLIANCE - David Victor Nepper, 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home. He was born May 11, 1937, at Alliance, to Victor Michael and Elsie (Freadrich) Nepper.
He received his education in the Box Butte County Schools and Alliance High School. He married Julia Ann Stephens on Sept. 23, 1961, at Holly Rosary Catholic Church. They made their home outside of Alliance. He spent his life farming and caring for his family in the Alliance area. He is survived by his wife, Julia of Alliance; children, Major Leslie A. Nepper of Woodbridge, Va; Gregory D. Nepper of Eau Claire, Wis.; Jeffery R. Nepper of Alliance; Angela K. Nepper of Sodus, Mich.; Donna M Giger of Alliance; and seven grandchildren. He also is survived by brothers, James Nepper of Gering; Vincent Nepper and Gary Nepper of Alliance. His parents and sister, Alice Nepper preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial Will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Alliance. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel at Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.
Juanita M. Davis, 86
(Jan. 16) ALLIANCE - Juanita M. Davis, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She was born Feb. 10, 1915, at White Cloud, Kan. to Howard L. and Ida M. (Simpson) Jones.
She was married to Glenn Davis May 29, 1933, at Rushville. Together they ranched south of Bingham for many years. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Way Out West Extension Club and the Election Board of Garden County. She is survived by two sons, Gilbert and Barbara Davis of Alliance, Harvey and Marie Davis of Milton, Fla., Glen H. "Bud" and Frances Davis of Hyannis, Lonnie and Linda Davis of Bingham; daughter Ginger and Ray Davis of Evans, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great- grandchildren. Her parents, husband and one sister preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at the Hyannis Cemetery with Rev. Christine Mottl officiating. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Health Care Center, P.O. Bernice L. Lewis, 79
(Jan. 16) HOT SPRINGS, S.D. - Bernice Louise (Freeman) Lewis, 79, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was married to Jim Lewis Feb. 4, 1941, at Alliance.
Bernice is survived by her husband Jim and three children: Lewis of Kingman, Ariz.; Betty and Ray Hrachovec of Black Hawk, S. D.; and Robert and Sherrie Lewis of Bakersfield, Calif.; nine grandchildren She also is survived by three sisters, Betty Andrew of Seattle, Wash.; Donna Swanberg of Yakima, Wash. and Frances Johnson of Walnut Creek, Calif.
Mrs. Lewis' funeral will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs with Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs
Hazel Buckles, 92
(Jan. 17) MARTIN, S.D. - Hazel Buckles, 92, of Martin, S.D., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Bennett County Hospital in Martin, She was born Jan. 19, 1908, at Creighton, Neb. Her parents were Clarence and Elsie (Twining) Benedict.
The family moved to the Merriman/Marttin area in 1918. She was married to Frank Buckles on Sept. 29, 1928, at Longview, Wash. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Buckles of Martin; three sons, Leo Buckles and Jim Buckles, both of Martin, and Frankie Buckles of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; daughter Betty Cook of Martin; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Buckles' funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the American Legion Auditorium at Martin, with The Rev. Terry Olthoff of Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Gordon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Chapel in Gordon, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the America Legion Auditorium in Martin.

Elizabeth M. Fosher, 95
(Jan. 17) ALLIANCE - Elizabeth M. Fosher died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance, Neb.. She was 95. She was born Feb. 9, 1905, at Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Christ and Ane Marie (Andersen) Larsen.
She married Allen Fosher on June 3, 1928, at Manville, Wyo. The couple ranched in Niobrara County, Wyo., until 1963 when they moved to Torrington, Wyo. She was active in 4-H and Homemakers' Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Torrington.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966, three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Irish of Alliance; son and daughter-in-law, Dann and Pat Fosher of Story, Wyo.; five grandchildren: Glenn Fosher of Gillette, Wyo., Karen Fosher of Sheridan, Wyo., Craig Irish of Kalispell, Montana, Beth Irish Cozad of Gering, Neb., and Kelly Donner of Omaha, Neb., and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, William Larsen of Douglas, Wyo., and sisters Katrine Mariegard of Torrington, Wyoming, and Nellie Kathka of Napa, Calif.
Graveside services will be Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. The Reverend Debra Olenyik of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Doris J. Reeves, 93
(Jan. 17) HAY SPRINGS - Doris J. Reeves, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Pioneer Manor. She was born Nov. 24, 1908, at Chadron. Her parents were Oliver and Ida Mae Mohler.
She is survived by sons Russell and Ralph Reeves of Chadron, Melvin and wife Carol Reves of Rushville, and Lawrence and wife Carol Reeves of Arvada, Colo.; daughter Merna and husband Bill Connelly of Alliance; 17 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett, one infant son, two sisters, one brother and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Reeves' funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Chamberlain Chapel at Chadron. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.
