V. E. Gene Maier age 81 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln. He was born on January 12, 1931 in Clearmont, Missouri to Kennard and Mabel (Williams) Maier. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, three years in the Panama Canal Zone. Gene owned and operated a service station in Clarinda, Iowa before moving to Lincoln in 1977. He then worked for Big A Auto Parts and retired from the Department of Revenue. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his wife Ruth of Lincoln, daughters, Cynthia and Jack Grandman of Denver, CO; Julia Maier of Lincoln; son, Douglas Maier of Lincoln; grandson, Nicholas Rainforth of Lincoln; granddaughter, Elizabeth Grandman of Denver; great-grandson, Caden Rainforth; sister, Theda Nothwehr of Clarinda, IA; brother, Leland (Donna) Maier of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Nathan Rainforth.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South Street, with Pastor Nancy Flader officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Rosa U. Gomez
June 8, 2012
Rosa U. Gomez age 97 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Waverly Care Center in Waverly.
Cremation, no visitation.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary cemetery in Lincoln.
Rosa is survived by her husband, Wendell Flinn of Lincoln.
Memorials may be directed to the family.

Murray Cason Butler
May 27, 2012
Murray Cason Butler, age 82 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at his home in Lincoln. He was born on June 29, 1929 in Henderson, Tennessee to Elzie Jacob and Delia Irene (Holloway) Butler. Murray married Ruthie M. Ramer at Beaufort, South Carolina in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years. During his service years he was most proud that in 1965 he was on the maiden voyage around the world of the nuclear powered aircraft carrier the USS Enterprise. Murray worked for Midland Medical Supply Company for 20 years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Ashland Country Club. He enjoyed his wife, family, friends, golf, racquetball, bowling, square dancing, coin collecting, reading and traveling.
Murray is survived by his wife Ruthie of 61 years, daughters, Donna Butler of Connecticut; Debra and Bruce Samuelson of Missouri; Diana and Kris Bridges of Nebraska; sister, Nancy Davenport of Arizona; grandchildren, Nori and Sandy Lembree of Connecticut; Cason Ramos and Shelby Carlson of Connecticut; Amy and Chris Falkner of Kansas; Alan and Becky Samuelson of Kansas; Eric and Danyel Bridges of Arizona; Scott Bridges of Arizona; 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Hazel and Sue, an infant son and great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home with Pastor Mike McMurtry officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Wyuka cemetery.

Theresa Rose Spahn
May 24, 2012
Theresa Rose Spahn, age 99 of Lincoln, died Thursday, May 24, 2012. 99 years is a long time! So much has changed. My parents, Jacob and Katherine Huck, had eight children. I was the last here on earth. Ill be reunited now with all of them in heaven.
I married Leonard J. Spahn in 1936 (he passed away in 1990). We had two children, Joyce and Don, who survive us. Joyces husband is John Jeffries, they live in Chicago. Don and his wife, Linda of Mobile, Alabama, have two children. Jason is my grandson, Cathy Gunn is my granddaughter. She and her husband, Bo gave me a great-grandson, Alan last year. I leave nieces, nephews, and wonderful supportive friends.
Thanks to all my family and friends for making my life so good. Dont weep for me! Im with God.
Cremation, no visitation.
A graveside memorial serivce will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. at Wyuka cemetery with Pastor Nancy Engel officiating.
Burial will be in Wyuka cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 13th and F St., Lincoln, NE 68508 or Aseracare Hospice, 5715 S. 34th Street, Lincoln, NE 68516.

Ardys Mae Young
May 8, 2012
Ardys Mae Williams Young, age 89, of Lincoln, died on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in Lincoln. She was born on June 5, 1922 in Phillips County Kansas to George Nathan Williams and (Minnie) Mina Bertha Johanna Hecht Williams. Ardys married Donald Earl Young on November 30, 1940 in Imperial, Nebraska. Ardys grew up in the Naponee and Franklin, Nebraska area surrounded by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ardys and Donald lived in Holdrege, Nebraska for many years where their daughters were born. She was a stay-at-home mom and was devoted to caring for her family. She never sat still, always busy cooking, sewing, and cleaning for the family and helping her daughters with projects they were involved in. She was active in her Extension Club and church activities. Ardys worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant after her children were older and in school. When the family moved to Lincoln in 1965, she went to work at Golds and Brandeis Department Store. She was the salad lady in the second floor cafeteria. Ardys was the first one to greet customers as they went through the line and always had a smile and kind words for the customers. When Brandeis closed, she worked for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln food service for a short time before retirement. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Ardys is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Carol and Harley Nelson of Lincoln; Shirley and John Horstman of Lincoln; Beverly and Keith Ludden of Augusta, Maine; grandchildren, Connie Nelson of Lake Havasu, Arizona; Cindy and Jason Richard of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Jeff and Kristy Horstman of Lincoln; Pamela and Matt Brigham of Seattle (Fife), Washington; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Rachel Buck of Lincoln, Korey, Kelsey, and Karsen Richard of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Kamden and Kasten Horstman of Lincoln, great-great-grandson, Mason of Lincoln; sister, Gladys Norton of Fort Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Ruth M. Samuelson, and grandson, John Nelson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Second Baptist Church, 525 N. 58th Street, Lincoln with Pastor Steven Wisthoff officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association.

Lois Jean Billie Knaff
May 6, 2012
Lois Jean Billie Knaff, age 79, of Lincoln, died May 5, 2012. Born January 24, 1933 in Hazard, Kentucky to Richard and Alberta (Olinger) Baker. She taught for the Lincoln Public Schools before her retirement.
Survivors include her children and spouses: Daphne G. Knaff, Ronald W. Knaff, Carl B. and Teresa Knaff, James and Laura Knaff, Cassandra Knaff all of Lincoln. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9th from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Wyuka cemetery.

Carolina H. Olivas
May 3, 2012
Carolina H. Olivas, age 90, of Lincoln, died May 2, 2012. Born in Balleza Chih, Mexico on August 24, 1921 to Bentura and Maria (Rodriquez) Herrera.
Survivors include her children, Lucrecia O. Casas of Richmond, CA. Manuel Olivas, Luis Olivas, Luisa O. Beltran, Leonor O. Saenz all of Lincoln. Leticia O. Villegas of El Paso, TX. Leoncio Olivas of Lincoln. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Brother: Damazo Herrera of Amarillo, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucio, 11 children, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May7, 2012 at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church, Lincoln. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Sunday, May 6, 2012 from Noon until 9:00 P.M. with rosary services at 7:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be in Wyuka cemetery
Memorials may be left for the family.

Leota Mae Bennett
July 22, 2012
Leota Bennett passed away peacefully at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln on July 19, 2012 at the age of 101. She was one of seven children and was the beloved wife of Jerry Bennett. She will be forever remembered by her sons, Chuck and Jim, grandchildren, Jeff, Tim, Kim, Brenna and Kelly and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Clayton, Jessica, Samantha, Emma, Sarah, Calvin, Jared, Dawson, Tylyn, Brooklyn, Ellison, Abbey and Kenzie and many friends and family whom were blessed to know her.
She and her husband spent their early years of life inAuburn, Humboldt, andFairbury,Nebraska. She worked at Bennett Clothiers and managed the Mode O Day shop in Fairbury. Leota was an active member of the Southeast Nebraska Amateur Radio Club, and supported her husband’s interest in Ham Radio as a member of the Lincoln Holiday Rambler Camper Club. Leota was an outstanding cook and loved to craft, garden and spend time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, daughter, parents, brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Masters officiating.
Burial will be in Wyuka cemetery.

Gerald (Red) Raymond Fitzwater
July 19, 2012
Gerald (Red) Raymond Fitzwater age 85 of Lincoln, Nebraska died on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Lincoln. He was born on June 17, 1927 in Kellerton, Iowa to Ernie and Grace (McClain) Fitzwater. Red owned and operated several full service gas stations, including Reds Skelly. He retired from Lincoln Public Schools.
Red is survived by his son, Mitchell Fitzwater of Lincoln; son, Jim Sparks of Lincoln; daughter, Paula (Mike) Hardesty of Lincoln; great-granddaughter, Harley Hardesty. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home.
The graveside service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Wyuka cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
