Garald P. Morris
October 19, 1924 - December 29, 2012
Life long Gothenburg Nebraska resident, Garald P Morris, 88, passed away on December 29, 2012 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska. He was born October 19, 1924 in Gothenburg, Nebraska, to Lee and Eva (Adams) Morris.
On December 14, 1942 Garald enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II in the Pacific theater on the air craft carrier U.S.S. Prince William, until when he was honorably discharged on February 1, 1946 with a rank of Seaman First Class.
Garald married Ruth I. Roe in Lexington Nebraska on May 19, 1947.
He was an avid member of the American Legion, the VFW and the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Garald enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, and hunting. Watching sports was a favorite pass time, particularly when there was a Nebraska Volleyball or Football game on.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Perry (Rose) Morris; daughters: Jonie (Elmer) Birnie, Ramona (Larry) Gronewold, Charlene Morris and her god daughter, Kelsey Houchin; granddaughters: Jody Preitauer, Tara Bohr, Wendy Wilkins; grandsons: Shane Gronewold, Gary Morris, Michael Moses; great-grandsons: Jake Preitauer, Brady Preitauer, Clay Bohr, Devan Wilkins, Brandon Wilkins, Kaiden Wilkins; great-granddaughters: Sierra Gronewold, Skylar Gronewold, Claira Bohr; sister, Mary (Scott) Ward, special friend Vi Quig, along with numerous niece, nephews and extended family.
Garald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth I. Morris; infant daughter, Ruth Ann Morris; brothers, Bill Morris, and Gene Morris.

Brenda Lee East
December 24, 1947 - January 14, 2013
Brenda Lee East, 65, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died January 14, 2013 at her home in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born December 24, 1947 in McCook, NE, daughter of Stan and Louise (Nelson) Phillips.
Brenda grew up in Curtis, NE and graduated from UNSA in 1966. She then went on to graduate from Business School in Grand Island in 1967. She lived in Curtis until 1966, when she moved to Grand Island for a couple years. She lived in North Platte from 1968 to '73 before moving to Longmont, CO for a year. She married Melvin East on April 28, 1973 at the Congregational Church in Curtis, NE. To this union one son Levi Owen was born. They lived in Curtis from 1974 to 1984 and then moved to Gothenburg.
Brenda worked as a housekeeper for the Broadway Inn, Travel Inn, and Super 8 Motel. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Curtis CO-OP, KAHL radio station in North Platte, and Goads Pit-Stop. She liked to read and love taking care of little children. Her beloved dog Patty was by her side all of the time.
Survivors include her loving husband Melvin; son - Levi Owen East; brother - Randy (Cheryl) Phillips; two sisters - Linda (Howard) Benjamin, Deborah (Dennis) Hazen; four sisters-in-law LaVaughn (Melvin) Shipman, Monia (Wayne) Biehn, Lita (Bob) Reinwalt; sister-in-law - Midge Hansen; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Stan & Louise Phillips; father-in-law, John East; three mother-in-laws, Lily East, Midge East, and Vivian East; several aunts & uncles; one nephew and one niece.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.with the family present from 5-7.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Curtis NE, Friday, January 18, 2013 at 10:00 am with Pastor Bonnie Forney officiating.
Interment will follow in Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, NE
A memorial has been established in her name and may be directed to 714 16th, Gothenburg, NE 69138.

Marian Fattig
December 18, 1929 - January 15, 2013
Marian S. Fattig, 83, of Brady, Nebraska, passed away January 15, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Cozad.
Marian was born December 18, 1929, in Brady to Edwin and Edith Brown Hoaglund. She attended Brady High School and earned an Associates Degree at Mid-Plains Community College.
Marian married her husband of 63 years, Dale Forrest Fattig, on June 1, 1947, at the Brady Methodist Church. They spent the early years of their marriage homesteading on Mirage Flats in Sheridan County. After their return in 1951, Marian worked for a time as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Brady.
Marian and Dale moved to the farm that would become their home for the rest of their lives in 1957. After the family aquaculture business, Fattig Fish, was founded that same year, Marian became instrumental in the operation�s continued success. While she devoted most of her time to raising her six children, Marian cared for a plethora of other flora and fauna, including Simmental and Gelbvieh cattle, Schnauzers, songbirds, and a diverse collection of beautiful flowers and trees.
Equally as diverse were Marian�s interests. Marian participated in many political and civic activities in Lincoln County; she often campaigned for candidates and helped administer the national census. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering, painting watercolors, solving crosswords, and reading novels and poetry.
Children were at the center of her heart, and after her own children left home, Marian studied Child Development at University of Nebraska-Kearney, and often babysat. She was devoted to her many grandchildren, and the arrival of her great-grandchildren brought a renewed sense of joy into her life.
Survivors include her three sons, Roger (Melanie) Fattig and Mark Fattig, all of North Platte, and Bruce (Ann) Fattig, of Kearney; three daughters, Susan (John Grasser), of Chevy Chase, Md., Sharon (Cliff) Johnson, of Wellingborough, England, and Carol (Barry) Rich, of Brady; 15 grandchildren, Elissa, Crystal, Ethan, Brandon, Lauren, Sarah, Ted, Katherine, Eric, John Pierce "JP," Elisabeth, Cody, Kirsten, Caelea and Lilian; 12 great-grandchildren, Isaac, Jonah, Kyrie, Carly, Chloe, Dale, Madden, Adelyn, Steven, Beatrix, Emmett, and Rylan; and other family.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Richard �Eugene� Hoaglund and Vernon �Shorty� Hoaglund.
Closed Casket Visitation will be Friday, January 18, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth St., Gothenburg, Nebraska, with Rev. Janie Freeman officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 1500 S 70th Street, Suite 201 Lincoln, NE 68506, American Heart Association, 105 Apache DR Lexington, NE 68850, Callahan Oncology Center, PO Box 1167, North Platte, NE 69103.
Private family interment will be at Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.

Adaline L. Shabram
April 9, 1929 - December 20, 2012
Adaline Louise Shabram, 83, of Gothenburg, NE, passed away on December 20, 2012 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg.
She was born April 9, 1929 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of George and Ruth (Buterbaugh) Mann.
Adaline attended Gothenburg High School with the class of 1948. She lived in different communities in Nebraska, and recently moved back to Gothenburg. She loved to visit with people and was an outgoing person. Adaline was a member of the Red Hatters.
Adaline owned and managed several restaurants when she was younger. She then went back to school to get her LPN. When she was in her 50's she went back to school to get her RN degree, something she was very proud of.
On August 25, 1978, she married Layton G. Shabram in Hooper, NE.
Adaline is survived by her son Nickolas (Mimi) Harm of Norman, OK; two daughters: Cordelia (Tim) Aden of Gothenburg, NE; Mala DeBerg of Cortland, NE; three brothers: Bob (Mary Ellen) Mann, Dave (Jody) Mann both of Brady and Dale (Patty) Mann of Hastings; sister Frances (Tim) McClellen of Gothenburg; daughter-in-law Rhea Harm of Minden, NE; sisters-in-law Ruth Ann Mann-Groene, Inez Fell and Naomi Stines;10 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Adaline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Layton G. Shabram, son Randy Harm, brothers Don Mann and Bill Mann, and sister Annette Ostrom.
Inurnment: Fort McPherson National cemetery

John A. Vang
October 26, 1931 - December 22, 2012
John A. Vang, 81, of Gothenburg, NE formally of Bellevue, NE; died December 22, 2012 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
John was born October 26, 1931 in Wolbach, NE, son of William Elmer and Ethel Belle (Cox) Vang.
John grew up in Wolbach, NE where he attended school.
John worked as a HVAC Tech for his own heating and cooling company, Alpine Heating and Air.
John enjoyed traveling and sight seeing. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. John really enjoyed all of the Christmas treats, especially the candies.
John is survived by his sons William Vang, John Vang Jr., and Lonnie Vang, daughters Valerie Johnson and Carol Busch, brother, Harold Vang, significant other Margret Gullick, grandson William (Amber) Montoya of Cozad and 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy and brother William.
Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the family c/o Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620th St., Gothenburg, NE 69138.

DARLENE L WERKMEISTER
July 8, 1938 - April 10, 2013
Darlene Louise Werkmeister, 74, of Maywood, Nebraska died April 10, 2013 at her home.
She was born July 8, 1938 at White in Hayes County to Adolph and Ella (Klug) Werkmeister. She attended Valley School. She moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1960. She was employed and retired from AT&T; after 27 years of service. After retiring she returned home to Maywood sometime in the 90’s were she made her home until her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Max, Raymond and Elgie; sister in-law Jean Werkmeister and brother in-law Chet Bennett of Niwot, Colorado.
Survivors include her twin sister Arlene Werkmeister of Longmont, Colorado; sister Lois Bennett of Niwot, Colorado; three brothers Leo Werkmeister of Maywood, Nebraska; Ernest and wife Pat Werkmeister of Longmont, Colorado; Melvin and wife Lucille Werkmeister of Maywood, Nebraska; three sister in-laws Betty Werkmeister and a special niece Sherri Werkmeister, who took the time to check on her each day, of Maywood, Nebraska; Donna Werkmeister of Maywood, Nebraska; Roberta Werkmeister of Palisade, Nebraska; also a close friend Pam Branham of Longmont, Colorado; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Sunday, April 14, 2013 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
Graveside services will be held Monday April 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at Maywood cemetery with Fred Werkmeister officiating.
Interment will follow in the Maywood cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Leonard Widholm
Born: January 25, 1929 - Death: April 16, 2013
Leonard Ernest Widholm, 84, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 16, 2013 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born January 25, 1929 at Tallin Table north of Gothenburg, NE, son of Ernest and Martha Alma (Weeks) Widholm.
Leonard grew up at Tallin Table and graduated from Gothenburg High School, class of 1947. He served his country as an Army Medic during the Korean War. Leonard married Leona Mae Sitorius June 6, 1950 at Gothenburg. They began a lifetime of farming and raising their three children; Susan, Trudy and Gary. Leonard enjoyed farming, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also liked to travel and enjoyed Husker football.
Surviving are his wife Leona Widholm of Gothenburg, NE; two daughters - Susan (Eldon) Franzen of North Platte, NE, Trudy (Tim) Kotschwar of Kearney, NE; one son - Gary (Brenda) Widholm of Gothenburg, NE; four granddaughters - Angela (Gabriel) Morrow of Wisconsin; Jennifer Fiese of Gothenburg, NE; Sarah (Travis) Nichelson of MI; Jenn Kotschwar of Kearney, NE; five grandsons - Richard (Melissa) Fiese of Elm Creek, NE; Jeffrey (Shiloah) Franzen of North Platte, NE; Tyson Franzen of North Platte, NE; Jordan (Meggie) Widholm of Sioux City, IA; Jeff (Becky) Kotschwar of El Paso, TX; 13 great grandchildren - Zacheri Caldwell, Sky Lineger, Trenton Flies, Ameila Grace Morrow, Jude Morrow, Mikayla Nichelson, Madison Nichelson, Adam Nichelson, Zander Fiese, Kegan Fiese, Audrey Kotschwar, Makenzie Kotschwar, Feona Mae Franzen; sister - Carolyn (Donald) Glenn of Omaha, NE; sister-in-laws - Elaine Widholm of Glendale, CA, Sandy Widholm of Gothenburg, NE; Margery (Norman) Jensen of Council Bluffs, IA; brother-in-law, Bill Sitorius of Gothenburg, NE; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Bernard Widholm; mother, Martha Alma Widholm - Fry; step-father, Samuel Fry; and two brothers, Marvin "Red" and Harold Widholm. and sister-in-law, Susie Sitorius.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, April 21, 2013 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Avenue, Gothenburg, April 22, 2013 at 10:30 am with David Wiseman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Grandview cemetery.

Zelma Lorine Gaudreault
June 10, 1925 - April 29, 2013
Zelma Lorine Gaudreault, 87, of Cozad, Nebraska, died April 29, 2013 in Cozad, NE.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Winder, GA, daughter of William Preston and Bertha Ophilia (McDaniel) Wall.
Zelma grew up in Monroe, NC and graduated from Monroe High School. She married Marcus Crampton Gaudreault on November 27, 1944 at Topeka, KS. Zelma and Marcus moved to Curtis and then later to Farnam. She retired in 1981 from the ASCS office in Frontier CO after 28 years. She then went to work for the Frontier County Clerks office and retired after 10 years. When she could no longer drive, Zelma moved to North Platte, NE. In November 2012, she moved to Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, NE. She enjoyed socializing, cooking, sewing, crafts, and dancing. Zelma always had a large garden which she enjoyed giving away the produce.
Surviving are son - Don (Janice) Gaudreault of Farnam, NE; granddaughter - Betty (T.O. Loseke) Gaudreault of Paxton, NE; two grandsons - Marc (Oksana Trofymchuk) Gaudreault of Lone Tree, CO, Tony (Michele) Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren- Austin Hackney of Paxton, NE; Landon Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; Jaylen Gaudreault of Henderson, NV; brother-in-law - Eugene (Joyce) Elmore of NC; several nieces and nephews, along with many friends.
Zelma was preceded in death by husband, Marcus Gaudreault, father, William Preston Wall, mother, Bertha Ophilia Wall; one brother, four sisters, three brother-in-laws.
Memorial services will be held at Farnam United Methodist Church, May 17, 2013 at 11:00 am with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Private inurnment will follow in the Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established.
