Charlene Rae Devine
May 13, 1946 - May 5, 2013
Charlene Rae Devine, 66, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 5, 2013 at her home in Gothenburg, NE, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born May 13, 1946 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Harry James Crawford Sr. and Lorraine Elbera (Franzen) Crawford.
Charlene graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, CO in 1964. She married Ron Devine on April 2, 1966 at Colorado Springs; to this union, two daughters were born: Kelli and Kristi.
Charlene worked as a tax preparer for many years. Charlene was a 4-H mom to many. She collected porcelain dolls, enjoyed shopping and going to garage sales. Charlene was a very generous person who shared many of the things she purchased with the less fortunate. She was a member of the Birthday Club, Card Club, Red Hat Society, Meals on Wheels Volunteer, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Lutheran Church Women, and Luther League Sponsor.
Charlene's greatest treasures were her grandchildren. She loved "heading East" to attend their many activities.
Surviving are loving husband Ron Devine of Gothenburg, NE; two daughters - Kelli and husband Rod Mattson of Wahoo, NE; Kristi Phillipson of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren: Colter Mattson, Chaleigh Mattson, Cadie Mattson, Emma Phillipson, and Brody Phillipson; sister - JoAnn Norris; brother - Daniel (Daryl) Crawford; her father-in-law Morris Devine; along with many extended family and friends.
Charlene was preceded in death by her father, Harry James Crawford Sr., mother, Lorraine Elbera Crawford and a brother Harry "Butch" Crawford, Jr, and mother-in-law Cora Evelyn Devine.
The Devine family would especially like to thank the Hospice nurses and staff, and the Gothenburg Rescue Unit for their tender care of Charlene.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Wednesday, May 08, 2013 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5-7.
Funeral Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, May 9, 2013 at 10:00 am.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.

Doris M. Peterson
May 25, 1916 - May 17, 2013
Doris May Peterson, 96, of Curtis, Nebraska died May 17, 2013 at Senior Choices in Curtis.
She was born on May 25, 1916 in Frontier County, Nebraska daughter of Joseph Edward and Alice Ward Burton. Doris grew up in Frontier County and graduated the 8th grade from North Star country school. She married Clarence Godfred Peterson on March 2, 1935 in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union five children were born; Harold, Ronald, Gary, Terry and Beverly.
Most of her life she lived south of Curtis on the Farm her parents bought after they moved here from England. Clarence and Doris farmed, milked cows, and raised a big garden. Doris was most at home in her garden that was filled with vegetables, fruit trees and lots of flowers. There was always something good to eat at her house. She loved to share her wonderful food with family and friends and visit with you also. Her most happy times were when her house was full and her family was enjoying their feast she had prepared.
In later years she made many quilts and shared them with her family. While her family was growing she was as Sunday school teacher for the preschool age and active as a 4-H leader. She belonged to the Triple L Extension Club for many years and has been a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. After her family was nearly grown she worked as a cook at UNSTA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, Parents, sons Ronald and Gary, daughter-in-law Donna, son-in-law Terry Storm, three sisters, one half-sister, one half-brother, four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her children Harold (Penny) Peterson of Curtis; Terry (Chris) Peterson of McCook; Beverly Storm of Curtis. Grandchildren Rhonda, Rick and Randy of Idaho, Dennis, Barb and Darla of Texas, Troy and Michelle of North Dakota, Tim of Omaha, Kellie of North Platte and Eric of North Platte. 22 great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Curtis, Nebraska; Wednesday, May 22, 2013 1:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 402 Center, Curtis, NE; Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:30 am with Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating.
Interment will follow in the Curtis cemetery, Curtis, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Senior Living Choices, United Methodist Church, or Frontier County Ambulance.

TERRY WILLIAM WEEKS
December 13, 1946 - April 9, 2013
Terry William Weeks, 66, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 9, 2013 in Omaha, NE.
He was born December 13, 1946 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Robert Lee and Dorothy Mae (Rose) Weeks. By the age of six Terry had lost both of his parents. His aunt Ellen raised him. Ellen was very special to Terry and he was able to care for her as she got older.
Terry grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High, class of 1965. Terry went to Denver for two years of drafting school at ITT. He married Marsha Werner on March 7, 1969 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. To this union a daughter Ramona was born. Terry worked for Monroe Auto Equipment for 40 years. Terry was a member of the JC's. He loved Nascar, Husker football, and Sandra Bullock movies.
He is survived by his wife Marsha Weeks; daughter Ramona (Brian) Wellmann; two granddaughters Kerry and Kasey all of Gothenburg, NE; extended family includes: sisters-in-law Monie (Dick) Martin of Redmond, OR; Joyce Sabin of Gothenburg, NE; Norma (Bob) Richards of Cozad, NE; Mary Buesing of Cozad, NE; brother-in-law Larry (Janice) Werner of Cozad, NE; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee and Dorothy Mae Weeks; mother-in-law Doris Werner-Earl; brothers-in-law, Terry Werner and Leo Sabin; aunt & uncle, Ellen & Brown Weeks; special friend, Cora Devine.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, April 12, 2013 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Ina Grace Harwick
June 29, 1918 - May 19, 2013
Ina Grace (South) Harwick was born in Sarles, North Dakota on June 29, 1918 to Jay and Hannah South. She passed away on May 19, 2013 at the North Platte Care Center in North Platte, NE. Her family moved to Bemidji, Minnesota where she graduated from high school in 1936. She moved to California to live with her sister and look for work. She met Paul Smith there and they were married in Las Vegas in 1941. Daughter Billie was born in California. She and Paul moved to Nebraska in 1945 and settled in Maywood in 1946, where son Dan was born. Paul passed away in 1958. Grace married V. J. (Fritz) Harder in 1966 and they lived in rural Stockville and Curtis. Fritz passed away in 1975. Grace married Kenny Harwick in 1988. Kenny passed away in 2002.
Grace worked out of her home doing laundry and ironing. She also cleaned houses and worked several years as a custodian at Sunset Haven in Curtis. She also cleaned several businesses and private homes in Curtis. She enjoyed reading and had a book by her side at the very end. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made blankets, pillows, bean bag chairs and other items for her family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting turtles and her collection numbered over 400 in a variety of sizes. She also liked to fish and spent many hours at lakes in the area. Her greatest joy was her families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. Grace is survived by her sister Laverne Whelan of Bemidji, Minnesota; daughter Billie Christensen of Littleton, CO; son Dan (Karen) Smith of Maywood, NE. Step daughter Darlene (Tedd) Hinton of Colorado Springs, CO; step daughter Lynda (Denny) Drayton of Lemon, SD and step son Fayette (Ronnie) Harwick of Alliance, NE. Grandchilden Dan Christensen of Littleton, CO; Paul (Dawn) Smith of Kansas City, MO; and Chad (Jean) Smith of Overland Park, KS. Great-grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Vinci; Troi Christensen; Trysten Brown Christensen; Josie Smith and Gavin Smith. Great-great grandchildren Cadence, Michael and Avery Vinci, of Littleton, CO. Numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be Tuesday May 21st from 1-7 PM at the Blase-Wetzel-Strauser funeral home in Curtis NE. Private services and burial at the cemetery in Riverton, NE will be on Wednesday, May 22.
Memorials may be directed to the Curtis Public Library, 316 Center Ave, Curtis, NE 69025

Signe Block
January 16, 1921 - April 27, 2013
Signe Vera Block, 92, of Boulder, Colorado, formerly an 80 year resident of Gothenburg, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, April 27th, 2013, at the home of her granddaughter, Christiana Lucani, with her daughter, Rhonda, by her side.
Funeral services will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg on Friday, May 3rd at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2nd, from 3 to 8 PM at the Blase -Strauser Memorial Chapel, with Signes family present to welcome friends and family from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will follow the service at the American Lutheran Church cemetery, northeast of town.
Signe was born on January 16th, 1921 to Carl Wahlgren and Signe (Fernstrom) Wahlgren, both immigrants from Sweden. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1938. On August 21st, 1940, Signe married Clarence M. Block in Gothenburg. They honeymooned in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She became a member of the Lutheran church in 1940, continuing to be a member for the remainder of her life. In 1943, they began farming north of Cozad. In 1950, they purchased a farm southwest of Gothenburg, which they farmed until retiring. Clarence and Signe enjoyed taking their family on yearly trips to the mountains and other interesting places. They had opportunity to travel to visit Signes relatives in Sweden and see other sights in Europe.
Signe was an active community member, serving at church and involved in womens clubs, and senior center activities. She studied painting and came to find great pleasure in painting china; her love of beauty was expressed through her paintings of flowers and landscapes on china, which are treasured by her family. Gardening, canning, and baking were her favorite jobs and her Swedish pancakes were a family favorite. She was an excellent cook. Family was her passion; she spent her life involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She delighted each time a new baby was added to the family and loved to hold them. She continued to mother through her last days. She had moved to Boulder into Dunn Memorial Senior Housing to be near family, and both her family and her friends at Dunn provided activities and a caring environment that gave her a sense of well-being and peace. She was blessed with amazing endurance and continued to live independently until the last months of her life. As the family gather by her bedside on the last evening of her life, she spoke to each family member individually, telling each of her great love for them and blessing them.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Ed) Youngberg of Evergreen, CO, and Rhonda Block Alstad of Boulder, CO, and one son, Mark (Kim) Block of Denver, CO, and son-in-law, Terry King. Grandchildren include Sonja Youngberg, Elise (Dan) Vaughan, Gesyka (Daniel Burkard) Youngberg, Britt Alstad, Christiana (Leonardo) Lucani, Zachary Alstad, Mistia (Harmon) Zuckerman, Jeneia Mullins, Dustin Block, Ryan (Samantha White) Block, Jim King, Libby (Jamie) King and David (Tiffany) King . There are 12 great-grandchildren who will also, dearly miss her.
Signe was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Block; daughter, LaDonna King; son-in-law, John Alstad, and great-granddaughter, Fritzie Zuckerman; all her sibings and most of her dear friends.
She was blessed with such a long and rich life. She died as she lived, with strength, faith, compassion, determination and love. She will be greatly missed by all those who know her.
The family suggests that memorials may be given to The City of Gothenburg Commemorative Tree Program in Signe Blocks name or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, May 02, 2013 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5-7.
Funeral services will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1521 Ave G, Gothenburg, NE on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10:30 am with Pastor Tom Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in the American Lutheran cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Memorials may be directed to The City of Gothenburg Commemorative Tree Program, c/o Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth St, Gothenburg, NE 69138, or to Gothenburg Senior Center, 410 20th Street, Gothenburg, NE 69138.

Larry Juhl
November 21, 1946 - May 8, 2013
Larry Joe Juhl, 66, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died May 8, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV.
He was born November 21, 1946 in Gothenburg, NE, son of Joseph Burton Juhl and Dorothy Marie (Sabin) Juhl.
Larry grew up in the Cozad and Gothenburg area. He attended Cozad schools and graduated from Kearney High School. He served his country in the US Army (1966-1968 and 1980-1983) where he was a medical specialist and a unit supply specialist. On September 29, 1981 he married Naomi Fish in Columbus, GA. Larry was the father of four children - David Lynn, Thorin Kirkendall, Crystal Lee, and Mistienne. Larry lived in many places including - Nebraska, Colorado, Minnesota, Washington, Alaska, Kentucky, Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, California, Nevada, and Germany. He worked as a respiratory therapist, a pharmacy tech, OR tech, CNA and was the owner/operator of Tatanka and Tiki Hut. Larry enjoyed music, movies, balsa wood airplanes and history.
Surviving are wife, Naomi May Juhl, two sons - David Lynn Juhl (daughter-in-law Suyean and grandson Alex), Thorin Kirkendall Juhl; two daughters - Crystal Lee Juhl, Mistienne Juhl, brother - Riley Del Juhl; sister - Karen A. Gilb (brother-in-law Theodore J.); brother-in-law and sister-in-law - John & Vivian Childers of Denver; along with many extended family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by father, Joseph Burton Juhl; mother, Dorothy Marie Juhl; step mother, Laura Juhl; sister, Linda Joy Juhl.
Graveside services will be held at Fort McPherson National cemetery, Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 10:30 am with Father Don O'Brien officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fort McPherson National cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the family.

DOROTHEA KAMPFE
June 27, 1923 - May 15, 2013
Dorothea Johanna Louise Kampfe, 89, of Gothenburg, NE died May 15, 2013 at Stone Hearth Estates, in Gothenburg, NE.
Dorothea was born on June 27, 1923 to Herman H. and Ella M. Bunsen Ebmeier in Bertrand, Nebraska. She was the fourth of six children. She graduated from Bertrand High School and taught school for several years in the Bertrand area.
She was united in marriage to Reuben O. Kampfe on May 21, 1944. To this union, two sons were born. Dorothea was an active member of American Lutheran Church where she served on many committees and was active in the women’s groups. She was a charter member of her Extension Club and a member of the Hilltop Birthday Club. Dorothea was a lifelong artist, with her favorite media being china and water color. Dorothea demonstrated and displayed her painting on the local, state and national levels. She shared this talent with others by teaching classes for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Reuben O. Kampfe, brothers Richard Ebmeier, Marvin and wife Ethel Ebmeier, and Roger Ebmeier, brothers-in-law Roger Forsberg, Marvin Kampfe and wife Helen, LaVern Kampfe and Roger Kampfe.
She is survived by her sons Randall R. Kampfe and wife Patricia of Decatur, IL, Steven J. Kampfe and wife Helen of Lincoln, NE, granddaughters Anne Sievers and husband Shann of Columbia, MO, Elizabeth Plinske and husband Paul of Whitewater, WI, Caroline Kampfe of Omaha, NE, grandsons John Kampfe and Anthony Kampfe of Lincoln, NE, and four great-grandchildren; brother Lloyd Ebmeier, sister Vida Forsberg; sisters-in-law Shirley Ebmeier, Doris E. Kampfe, Joan Wuest and husband Curt, Doris F. Kampfe, and brother-in-law Raymond Kampfe.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Sunday, May 19, 2013 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 Tenth Street, Gothenburg, NE; May 20, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Jeff Cottingham and Rev. Tom Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in the American Lutheran cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

CHANHSAMONE "SAMONE" "JEN" SOTPHRACHITH
October 10, 1980 - April 25, 2014
Chanhsamone "Samone" "Jen" Sotphrachith, 33, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died April 25, 2014 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born October 10, 1980 in a refugee camp in Thailand, daughter of Bounchanh and Vilayvone (Sotthachith) Sotphrachith. She moved to the United States with her family when she was just five months old.
Samone lived in Lexington most of her younger life, she also lived at Blair and Lincoln. She spent a few years at Callaway before moving to Gothenburg. She was a waitress at many restaurants and worked as a cashier at Callaway Drug. After her daughter was born, she became a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed cooking and always kept her home very clean. She loved watching movies and listening to music. She loved helping others and spending quality time with her daughter and pets.
She is survived by her daughter Joslyn Odessa Edgington of Callaway, NE; parents Bounchanh and Vilayvone Sotphrachith; two brothers, Robert and Bobby Sotphrachith; sister Sisouvone Sotphrachith all of Nebraska City, NE; nephew, Nathaniel Colin Sotphrachith; boyfriend Aaron Beachel of Gothenburg; and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, May 02, 2014 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5-7 pm.
Services will be held May 3, 2014, 1:00 pm at the Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Avenue, Gothenburg, NE with Pastor Nathaniel Gustafson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rose Hill cemetery, Callaway, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given In Memory of Samone to the Sotphrachith Family in c/o Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St, Gothenburg, NE 69138.
BURIAL: Saturday May 3, 2014 at Rose Hill cemetery.
