Tulsa Flies
May 6, 1979 - May 8, 2014
Tulsa Flies, 35, of Ravenna, Nebraska, formerly of Brady, died May 8, 2014 as the result of a vehicular accident at Verona, ND.
He was born May 6, 1979 in North Platte, NE, son of Roy and Elaine (Aubushon) Flies.
Tulsa lived in Humbolt from age 2-6, then lived in the Brady and Gothenburg area until 2004. Most recently he lived in the Ravenna area. He graduated from Brady High School and worked as a truck driver. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his kids whom he was so proud of; hunting, riding horses, and his pets.
Surviving are his parents Roy & Elaine Flies; three brothers, Travis (Angela) Flies, Tony (Michelle McQuade) Aubushon, Donnie Flies son, Trenton Flies; daughter, Riggin Flies; girlfriend Lacy Ienn; along with many extended family and friends.
Tulsa was preceded in death by his grandpa, Willard Aubushon; grandparents Wayne & Willa Flies; aunt, Linda Kuhlman; and uncle, Bill Flies.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Monday, May 12, 2014 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. with the family present from 5-7.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, May 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Tammy Aubushon officiating. In honor of Tulsa's country life, please dress casual for the service.
Interment will follow in the Peckham cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials should be directed to the family for a trust to be established for Trenton and Riggin, 826 D street, Shelton, NE 68876.

Joseph Davis
September 2, 1981 - May 11, 2014
Joseph O'Ryan Davis, 32, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died May 11, 2014 in Gothenburg, NE.
He was born September 2, 1981 in Gordon, NE, son of Perry Davis and Trena Grover.
Joe grew up in the Chadron area and attended schools there. He lived in several different towns including Chadron, North Platte, Arnold, Rapid City, S.D. and Gothenburg, NE. Joe married Crista Piester on June 2, 2008 at Gothenburg; they had three children- Joseph, Julienne and Amanda. Joe enjoyed cars, mudding, racing and fishing. He worked as a mechanic and laborer.
Survivors include his wife Crista Davis and their children Joseph, Julienne and Amanda all of Gothenburg; his mother Trena Grover of Rapid City, SD; father Perry Davis of Tecumseh, NE; brothers and sisters: James Adam Davis of Rapid City, SD, Toby John Andrew Davis of Rapid City, SD; Jeric Michael Davis of Rapid City, SD, Janna Marie (Josh) Ringheimer of Chadron, NE; grandparents Mike & Erma Davis of Merriman, NE; sister-in-law Brooke Piester of Gothenburg, NE ; special friend Christa Michele Hessler of Gothenburg; nephews Braden Davis of Rapid City, SD; Leland Davis of Carlsbad, NM; Ashleigh Davis of Rapid City, SD; nieces Aurora Ringheimer and Natalya Ringheimer of Chadron, NE; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joseph was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Rose Grover; uncle Joseph John Davis, sister-in-law Amanda Marie Piester, and cousin Gregory Philip Grover.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, May 15, 2014 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 am.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Memorials may be given to the to the Davis family for Joe's Children.

Lynn Leibel
Dr. Lynn L. Leibel, 79, died Thursday. He was born in Norfolk on Sept. 26, 1928, to Edward and Nellie (Robison) Leibel, and graduated from Alliance High in 1945. He served with the United States Army from 1946 to 1948.
Dr. Leibel graduated from Creighton Medical School in 1956 and moved to Council Bluffs after a year in Lexington, Neb. He served the community of Council Bluffs until retiring in 1993. He was former chief of staff at Mercy Hospital, longtime member of the Cogley Clinic medical staff, a member of the Creighton Medical Alumni Advisory Board, and Iowa Academy of Family Practice, and a member of St. Peters Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years Marianne Leibel; daughters, Theresa Curtin, St. Paul, Minn.,Mrs. Mike Urbanek (Laura), Roland, Iowa, and Mary Lynne Leibel, Columbia, Mo.; sons, Tim Leibel, Omaha, Bob Leibel, Superior; grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, Aidan, A.J., Katherine, Elizabeth and Carolin Leibel, Alex, Tess and Maddie Urbanek; sisters, Pat Bruning, Katy, Texas, and Mrs. Merlin Lawrence (Charnell), Omaha.
Private family services were held on Monday.

Clarence Schmidt
Clarence Gerhardt Schmidt, 87, of Red Cloud, died Tuesday at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Thursday) from the Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. James Witt officiating. Interment will be in the Church Council cemetery.
The eldest of three sons, he was born Feb. 5, 1921. at York, to Augusta (Heinke) and Otto Theodore Schmidt. He received his formal education attending St. John's Parochial School. Clarence then embarked upon his life's work farming with his father and brothers, Melvin and Robert.
In 1997, Clarence moved to Cowles, where he lived until December, 2005, when he became a resident of the Heritage Care Center.
Williams Funeral Home, Red Cloud, is in charge of arrangements.

Doreen Sanders
Doreen Elisabeth Sanders of Red Cloud, died June 22 at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.
Her funeral was held Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Revs. Richard Fairbanks and Lance McDowell officiating. Interment was in the Guide Rock cemetery.
The daughter of Irma Gertrude (Ries) and Henry Jacob Somerhalder, she was born June 30, 1921 near Guide Rock. She graduated from Guide Rock High School with the Class of 1939, and completed her bachelor's degree in education with Kearney State College on August 9, 1968. Doreen had dedicated her life to children and her chosen profession as a school teacher. She began her teaching career in a rural one-room school house for two years, taught six years at Amboy, and the last 25 years she taught at the Bladen Public Schools.
She had a number of hobbies and interests including crocheting, gardening, working search word puzzles, geneology, bowling and reading.
She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women's Fellowship, the Webster County Community Hospital's Pink Ladies, and the Webster County Food Bank. She also volunteered as a tour guide with the Willa Cather Foundation.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers Bert and Robert Somerhalder, an infant brother, Elmer; and her granddaughter, Kelli Beitler.
Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Mason Senti (Marlene Kaye), Lebanon, Mrs. Jim Beitler (Sharon Rogene) Red Cloud, and Barbara Jane Reicks, Hastings. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Carl Lee McElroy
Carl Lee McElroy was born Aug. 12, 1920, on a farm north of Randall, Kan., to Ray Adolphus McElroy and Ena May (Stauffer) McElroy. He died June 28, 2008, at the Jewell County Hospital Long-term Care, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
Carl graduated from Randall Rural High School in 1940, and started working for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He retired in 1982 after working 42 years.
August 2, 1942, Carl married Berneita Marie Smith at Mankato. To this union two children were born, Sharon Ann and Warren Allen.
He was baptized Jan. 27, 1952, into the Mankato Christian Church. He served as Sunday school sectionretary for 30 years. Carl was a deacon and elder of the church.
He was always there to help a neighbor or friend. After retirement, Carl's hobby was sharpening tools. He was a 50-year member and past master of Mankato Lodge 87 A.F. & A.M., and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Neita A. Hanson.
He is survived by his wife, Berneita, of 65 years; children, Sharon Ann Walton, Mankato, and Warren Allen McElroy, Lakewood, California; two grandchildren, Rachel Ann Walton, Petersburg, Va., and Carrie Marie and husband, Mark Burger, Zuni, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Madison Leah Burger and Sarah Jane Burger.
Celebration of life services for Carl L. "Jack" McElroy were held (today) Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., from the Mankato Christian Church with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Clegg, organist, and Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle, vocalist. Pallbearers were Don Hamilton, Jerry Richecky, Roy Damon, Roger Lindberg, Dean Davis and Willard Beckley. Interment was in Wallace cemetery, Jewell, Kansas. Graveside services were performed by Masonic Lodge, No. 87 A.F. & A.M., Mankato. Memorials may be made to the Mankato Christian Church or the Mankato City Park Equipment Fund. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Cerny
Michael J. Cerny, 52, of Omaha, formerly of Fremont, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at his home.
Cerny was born Oct. 29, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. He moved to Fremont at age 12 and was a 1969 graduate of Fremont High School. He previously was employed at Western Electric in Omaha and the former Plumfield Nursery in Fremont. He had been employed at Hormel Foods Corp. in Fremont for the past 29 years. He married Elaine Chlopek on Sept. 1, 1973, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Tarnov. He moved to Omaha in September 2003. His interests included coaching softball, hunting, traveling, restoring and fixing cars, and spending time with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1497, both in Fremont, Flatwater Austin Healey Club, Her Majesty Nebraska Road Patrol MG Club, National Rifle Association and Elkhorn Valley Rifle Club.
Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Holly (Mrs. Matthew) Petta of Lincoln, Heather (Mrs. Brian) Whitmer of Chicago and Nichole Cerny of Tempe, Ariz.; his mother and stepfather, Marie and Otto Brazda of Schuyler; five brothers, John (and wife, Julie) Cerny, Stephen (and wife, Cathy) Cerny, all of Fremont, Bernard (and wife, Kay) Kay Cerny of Avoca, Iowa, Thomas (and wife, Janet) Cerny of Dorchester, and Daniel (and wife, Carol) Cerny of Omaha; two sisters, Rose (Mrs. Warren) Matson of Schuyler and Patricia (Mrs. Randy) Johnson of Oakland; a grandchild, Aidan Petta of Lincoln; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Cerny; a brother, Stanley Cerny, Jr.; and a sister, Jane Frances.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. A public rosary will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the church led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will be from 12-4 p.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation continues from 6-7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to service Tuesday, both at the church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Fremont.
Michael would like to thank those who supported him during his battle with Lou Gehrigs Disease for the past 18 months.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial to be given to the ALS Foundation. Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Fornoff
Daniel J. Fornoff, 39, of Fremont died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Dorothy Munro
Dorothy Munro, 94, Mankato, died Monday at Jewell County Long Term Care. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Hope cemetery, Mankato. Following services a time of fellowship will be held at Critters.

Joe Shaughnessy
Joseph Clarke Shaughnessy, 61, the son of John and Ann (Clarke) Shaughnessy, was born Jan. 26, 1947, in St. Louis. He died Thursday at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, in Superior.
Joe graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas, in St. Louis, and continued his education at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1969 serving in Vietnam, Grenada, and Desert Storm. He also served in the National Guard and reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1999, retiring after 30 years of service.
He married Cynthia Chaput on Oct. 19, 2001 in Anthony, N.M. They resided in Las Cruces, N. M., until moving to Superior in 2001. He served as the chairman of the committee responsible for bringing the Moving Vietnam Wall to Superior in 2007. He was a member of the Military Order of Cooties and the Pup Tent Chapter in Grand Island, state chaplain. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Club, both in Superior, the Nelson V.F.W. Post and American Legion Post. Past District commander of the V.F.W. and was serving as commander of the Nelson V.F.W. Post.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, John, and sister, Mary Ann.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia, Superior, a daughter, Hollace Genereux, Austin, Texas; son, Patrick and daughter, Johanna Shaughnessy, both of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; and brother, Martin, San Antonio, Texas.
Services were held Monday from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Father Brad Zitek officiating.
Pallbearers were Randy Koehler, Jim Woerner, Troy Hayes, Sam Hayes, Mark Butler and Mike Dunn.
Interment was in the Bostwick cemetery, with full military rites and the Patriot Guard Riders assisting in the burial procession.

Jerry Fausch
Jerry Lynn Fausch, 62, of Red Cloud, died Sunday, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney.
His funeral will be at 10:30 Friday at the Guide Rock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks officiating. Interment with military graveside honors will be in the Guide Rock cemetery. There will be no visitation.
He was born July 30, 1946, to Lila (Dillin) and Calvin "Bob" Fausch at Superior. He attended District 61 rural school for six years before attending the Guide Rock Public School, where he graduated in 1964. He then enrolled at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for the next three years. In 1968, Jerry enlisted in the United States Marines, serving his country for four years, including one tour in Vietnam. He was the recipient of many honors as a dedicated soldier. Following his discharge in 1971, he continued his formal education at Chadron State College.
He was a member of the Guide Rock Masonic Lodge and the Cowles Legion Club.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing. Jerry continued the gardening legacy of his father.
He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Lila Fausch, Superior; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin Soucek (Wanda), Verdigre, and Mrs. Dave Petsch (Liz), Guide Rock; and a brother, Thomas Fausch, Grand Island.
Arrangements are being made by the Williams Funeral Home, Red Cloud.
