William "Bill" G. Lambert
William G. Lambert was born March 19, 1925 in Sidney, Nebraska, the youngest of four children to Jesse and Esther (Carpenter) Lambert and passed away with his wife and daughters at his side on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at his home in Milford at the age of 84 years 7 months and 13 days.
At an early age, Bill and his family resided on a farm near Potter. At the age of six, the family moved to the Ellsworth area where he grew up working on his father's ranch. On June 6, 1948 Bill was united in marriage to Elna Grimes at Chariton, Iowa, and to this marriage, two daughters, Barbara and Ava, were born.
Bill's life was entirely devoted to working his Sandhills cattle ranch, the Open A. Mill Iron. In 1976 he was seriously injured in an electrical accident which forced him to take an early retirement. In 1982 Bill and Elna moved to Milford. Together they enjoyed traveling including trips to Europe and Hawaii. Bill loved spending time with his family-teasing and joking around with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking and helping friends. His passion was hunting American Indian arrowheads and artifacts. Bill will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, strong work ethic, honesty and willingness to help others.
He is survived by his wife, Elna, Milford, daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Buhman, Harlan, IA, Ava and Arlo Petersen, Ruskin, NE, four grandchildren and spouses, Kelly and Aaron Stamp, Steamboat Springs, CO., Kimberly and Scott Burchett, Harlan, IA, Kristine Buhman, Harlan, IA, Eric Reinsch, Henderson, NE, four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Ashton and Ashlyn Stamp, all of Steamboat Springs, CO, Makayla Burchett, Harlan, IA, a niece, Judy Lorenz and nephew, Richard Witt, Planada, CA, many relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Raymond, sisters, Lucille Witt and Lois Asplund and great-granddaughter, Ashley Stamp.
Graveside service was at Whitman, NE on Nov. 7.

Valerie Krausert
Valerie C. Krausert, 98, of Wahoo died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Haven House in Wahoo.
Valerie Princ was born Dec. 7, 1905, in rural Ceresco. She attended District 28 School at rural Weston. She graduated from 11th grade at Weston High School in 1922 and from 12th grade at Lincoln High School in 1923. She attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln, one year for normal training.
She married Lewis Krausert on April 21, 1951, in Omaha. He died March 13, 1983.
During her life, she lived in Lincoln, Omaha and Wahoo. After receiving her teachers certificate, she returned to District 28 School and taught for two years. After teaching, she moved to Omaha and worked at the Rome Hotel for a brief time. She later worked at Mutual of Omaha for 12 years. She also was employed on a part-time basis by Freeman Decoration of Omaha for a number of years. After moving back to Lincoln, she managed two apartment buildings for Hoffman Rentals for 21 years.
She was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lincoln. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
Survivors include: nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and also an infant brother.
The funeral will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with the Rev. Rudy Oborny officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wyuka cemetery in Lincoln.
Memorials have been established to St. Wenceslaus Elementary School and Haven House, both in Wahoo.

Abbie Woolsey
Abbie Jane Woolsey, 71, was born Oct. 6, 1938, to Ray G. and Vivian (Dresslar) Woolsey at Maywood, Calif. She died Oct. 30 at Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Temple, Texas,
Abbie was raised in Las Vegas, Nev., and Randall. She received her high school diploma from Randall Rural High school in 1956.
Abbie worked at the Las Vegas Village Supermarket and Bakery while attending junior college in Utah. After her schooling, she worked for Central Telephone Company for 20 years. She returned to Belleville with her mother, Vivian, after the death of her brother and father.
While living in Belleville, she worked at M-C Industries until her eye sight failed. She liked to travel and with her mother, she made several trips to Alaska and the Panama Canal.
Abbie was a member of the Daylight Chapter of the Eastern Star of which she served as president, the VFW Auxiliary and the Randall Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ray; and a brother, Orman Ray.
Survivors include her mother, Vivian Woolsey, Belleville.
A graveside service was held Saturday at the Randall City cemetery. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Dudley
Ruby Lucille Dudley, Beloit, was born June 8, 1916, the daughter of Joseph Levi and Laura Belle (Jiles) Noe at Greenbrier, Ark. She was raised on a farm in Arkansas where she helped her mother raise the children and worked on the farm.
She married Albert Cecil Dudley on Jan. 16, 1935, at Lonoke, Ark. They moved to Scottsboro, Ala., where Albert worked on a farm and Ruby was a homemaker. While Albert was in the U.S. Army during World War II, she worked at a defense plant in Huntsville, Ala. Ruby and Albert had seven children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two sons; a daughter; her parents; eight brothers, Marion Noe, Luther Noe, Chester Noe, Earl Noe, Doyle Noe, George "Bill" Noe, Ray Noe and Dealie Henry Noe.
Survivors include her children, Billy Don Dudley, Greenville, Texas., Mary McCann, Beloit, Estelle Massingale, Ontario, Canada, and Wanda Stout, Beloit; two sisters, Faye Nation and Jean Williams; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating. Interment was in Jewell cemetery.

John Noonan Jr.
John P. Noonan Jr., 75, of Colon died today, Jan. 20, 2004, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Ruth Baustian
Ruth H. Baustian, 82, of Fremont died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Arrangements are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Gerold Carlton
Gerold (Jerry) Dean Carlton, 81, died Nov. 1, 2009, at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 14, 1927, the son of Royal and Ruby Pearl Carlton of Jewell, Kan.
Gerold married Arleta White in Glen Elder on Aug. 8, 1948. A lifetime farmer, Gerold also was known for his block laying in the surrounding area.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lavona; a son, Roy Jon; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Gerold is survived by his wife, Arleta; daughters and spouses, Lesa Wright and Dale, Jewell, Kan,, LeIla Becker and Dennis, Mount Hope, Kan., Loeta Conley and Hank, Upland, Neb., Lucille Black and Steven, Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild expected; five brothers, his twin Gene, Beloit, Kan., Kenneth, Wichita Falls, Texas, Marion, Henrietta, Texas, Jim, Hutchinson, Kan.; and one sister, Dora Maze, Ellsworth, Kan.
Visitation was held Nov. 3, 2009, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 Broadway, Jewell, Kan. Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jewell Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis or the American Diabetes Foundation. Kleppinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Abbas
John R. Abbas, 70, of Wahoo died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Saunders County Hospital in Wahoo.
Abbas was born May 20, 1933, in Webster City, Iowa. He served in the armed forces at an early age. He married Emily Hargrave on June 26, 1959, in Webster City.
He was an active member of Baptist churches and camp ministries throughout his lifetime.
Survivors include: four daughters, Brenda Abbas of Boston, Elizabeth (Mrs. Dallas) Dick of Omaha, Rebekah (Mrs. Christopher) Lyon of Parker, Colo., and Beverly (Mrs. Myron) Alloway of Hastings; two brothers, Ronald (and wife, Beverly) Abbas of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Donald (and wife, Cathy) Abbas of Mason City, Iowa; a sister, Janice (Mrs. Delbert) Emerson of Lincoln; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Temple Baptist Church in Lincoln, 50th and Randolph streets. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Tuesday at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
A memorial has been established to Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp in Genoa.

Enid Oshman
Enid Oshman died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the age of 92 at Lompoc, Calif. She was born June 13, 1917, in Hinton, Okla., the youngest child of Calvin and Vesta Cleveland. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1935 and lived in Oklahoma, California, Kansas and Nebraska before moving to Lompoc, where she resided for the last 44 years. She worked as a schoolteacher in Jewell County, and later as a bookkeeper for Jewel Tea Company in southern California, and Roberts Dairy in Lincoln, Neb., before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, crafts and feeding her neighborhood birds.
Enid is survived by John (Jack) Oshman, her loving husband of 52 years, and her son, Brad Oshman, of San Ramon, Calif.
A graveside ceremony was held Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Lompoc Evergreen cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Shriner's Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.

Glen Dirreen
Glen E. Dirreen, 75, died Oct. 27 after a lengthy illness. His family was by his side. He is survived by his wife, Justine, of 55 years; two daughters, Deborah Dirreen and Mrs. John Nokovic (Laurinda); four grandchildren, Angel, Ed, Katie and Amanda; and one brother, Bill.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Dirreen; a grandchild, William Glen; and two brothers, Ray and Harold.
Glen graduated from Hoisington (Kan.) High School in 1951. He received a bachelor of science in education degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1955, and a master of arts in school administration from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1959. He received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972.
He taught high school science and mathematics in Oxford and Superior from 1955 to 1961 and in Atchison, Kan., from 1961 to 1966. He was a high school principal at Oxford from 1956 to 1959. He continued studies during the summer months in Colorado and Kansas. He also taught chemistry at the college level at the Highland (Kansas) Community College from 1965 to 1966.
He relocated his family to Madison, Wis., in 1966 to begin his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While teaching, lecturing and working as a research assistant, he studied to obtain his greatest professional accomplishment of receiving his Ph.D.
Glen worked as the director of General Chemistry Laboratories at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1972 to 1984. Indefinite appointment was granted in 1983. He served as the coordinator of the general chemistry program and associate director of the Institute for Chemical Education from 1984 to 1994 He was a visiting guest lecturer at the University of California-San Diego in 1990 and 1991 and 1994 to 1996 He retired from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994. He contributed to numerous publications and speaking engagements. He presented lectures and demonstrations as part of the "Chemistry Can Be Fun" and SPICE (Student-Presented Interactive Chemistry Experiences) program. He was awarded emeritus status from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He enjoyed numismatics, reading, photography and nature. He sang nine years with The Rivermen of Atchison, Kan., and 25 years with The Bethany United Methodist Chancel Choir of Madison, Wis. He donated 10 years of work to the Colorado Springs Visitor's and Tourism Bureau.
In honor of his wishes, there were no services.

Ferne Harris
Olive Ferne Harris, 90, the daughter of James and Iva (Lamb) Silsby, was born Jan. 11, 1920, on the family farm near North Branch. She died Saturday at Brostone Memorial Hospital in Superior. Ferne was one of 10 children. She graduated from Burr Oak High School and was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church.
She was united in marriage to Lynn Ayers Harris on June 9, 1946, at the Burr Oak Methodist parsonage. This union was blessed with three children, Lynda, Richard and Thomas. They lived and farmed on the White Rock Creek northeast of Burr Oak. In 2005 Ferne made Jewell County Long Term Care her home.
Ferne was a member of the Methodist Church Women, Young Matrons Club and HDU. She was known for her exquisite country cooking, and was an accomplished seamstress and amateur artist and carpenter. She worked tirelessly for the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn, on Sept. 12, 2000; two brothers, Doyle and Boyd Silsby and four sisters, Thelma Pierson, Glendora Paxton, Madeline Pinkston, and Belle Kandelin. She is survived by her sons, Richard and Thomas Harris of Burr Oak; a daughter, Lynda Harris Myers Schreck of Emporia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Berneice Harris and Mrs. Harold Francis ( Edith), all of Burr Oak, and Mary Ohmstede of Guide Rock.
Her funeral will be at the United Methodist Church, Burr Oak, at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Dan Dempsey will officiate. Burial will be in the Burr Oak cemetery. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior.
