Berneice Peltier
Berneice Arleen Peltier, 93, daughter of Roy and Pearl Hettinger, was born Feb. 16, 1919, at Downs, and died Feb. 29.
Berneice graduated from Concordia High School with the Class of 1937. Two years later she was united in marriage to Albert Peltier. To this union, the following nine children were born; Phyllis, Jerry, Linda, Danny, Randy, Jack, Debra, David and Connie.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth and Alice, who died in infancy; her husband, Albert; brother, Chester; and parents, Roy and Pearl Hettinger.
She is survived by her nine children; brothers, Duain, Vernon, Richard and Donald; a sister, Susan Peters, Jewell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, in Delhi, Calif.

Arnold Smith
Arnold G. Smith, 88, the son of Grover and Dora (Elliott) Smith, was born on Jan. 26, 1924 on a farm near Republic County, Kan. He passed away on March 4, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital.
Arnold attended Lake Country School in Republic County and Republic High School. He enlisted with the United States Navy on March 4, 1943, serving two years aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in the South Pacific, transporting planes, equipment and Marines to the Pacific Islands. He was honorably discharged as an electrician's mate, second class from the USN SV on March 23, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Betty Jeppesen on Feb. 16, 1947 at Superior. To this union three children were born. He farmed his uncle's ranch on the White Rock Creek near Courtland until 1959 when he moved with his family to Superior. He worked at the City of Superior Waste Water Treatment Plant from 1960 to 1989, serving as plant manager for 15 years. He farmed south of Superior at the same time, retiring from farming when he was 83 years of age in 2007.
He attended the Church of Christ and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion in Superior.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Velda McCullough; brother-in-law, Harold; and sister-in-law, Ethlyn Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Superior; daughter, Linda Combs of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, James Smith and wife, Lorraine; and daughter, Barbara Thomsen, and husband, Neil, all of Superior; eight grandchildren, Amber (Combs) Kenney and husband, Dan, Jon Combs, Sandy (Smith) Watkins and husband, Lance, Jesse Smith, Mike Smith and wife, Kara, Brooke (Thomsen) Coshow and husband, Kyle, Kara (Thomsen) Wells and husband, Aaron, and Andrea Thomsen; seven great-grandchildren Tyler Combs, Holly and Mia Watkins, William and Weston Coshow, and Austin and Fallon Wells; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m., today (Thursday), at Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior with Pastor Jim Stark officiating. Music will be "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Carla Stark as soloist and Paula Renz as accompaniest.
Visitation was held from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Marlin Smith, Jon Combs, Jesse Smith, Mike Smith, Larry Beavers and Bill Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Amber Kenney, Sandy Watkins, Brooke Coshow, Kara Wells and Andrea Thomsen.
Interment with full military rites will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Superior. Memorials are suggested to go to the Church of Christ or the VFW. Condolences may be sent to Megrue-Price Funeral Home, 750 North Commercial, Superior, Neb., 68978, or in care of webiste, www.pricefuneralhomes.com.

Emanuel Jorgensen
Emanuel "Ted" Jorgensen, 88, was born Oct 29, 1923 to Thorvald and Marie Jorgensen in Hardy. He died Jan. 24.
In WWII he served with the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific. He married Shirley Mae Nelson in 1946, and together they were a farming family in Nebraska and Iowa, where their children were born. They moved to Chico, Calif., in 1955 and became active in the Evangelical Free Church of Chico, and Ted became a building contractor.
In the community, Ted regularly visited inmates in the city jail, worked with Gideon's International, and assisted with the building of the Evangelical Free Church. His hobbies were carving and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Mrs. Dennis Hanson (Sharon) Yuba City; Mrs. Stephen Raley (Cynthia) Chico; and son, Conrad Jorgensen or Mill Valley; four grandsons and two granddaughters; six great-grandsons and four great- granddaughters.
His funeral was Feb. 4 at the Evangelical Free Church of Chico.

William McBroom
William C. McBroom, 86, was born Jan. 7,1927, in Superior. He died Feb. 10, in Colorado Springs, Colo. A graduate of Superior High School, he also attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska. He served in the United States Naval Air Corps during World War II.
Bill had a beautiful tenor voice and sang for many activities and in the church choir. He enjoyed photography and trains.
On Aug. 21, 1949, he married Connie Steele. To this union two children were born, Jonathan and Nancy.
He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 39 years retiring in Riverton, Wyo., where he lived for 33 years. He moved to Colorado Springs three years ago to be closer to the children. He is survived by his wife of 63 years; a son, Jonathan of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Nancy Brunell, Salida, Colo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m., June 2, at Evergreen cemetery in Superior.

Jeanne Watkins
Jeanne Marie Watkins, 85, daughter of Wilbur and Hazel (Kennedy) Hotchkiss, was born May 24, 1926, at Central City, Neb. She died at her home in Mankato Saturday.
She grew up in Nebraska along with her brothers, Don, Bill, and Larry; and sister, Helen. Years later, Jeanne moved to Indiana and worked at the State House. This is where she met Bernard Watkins. April 19, 1943, they were united in marriage. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter. Jeanne also worked many years as a service representative for the Lozier Company. Following retirement, Jeanne opened a ceramic and porcelain doll shop in Irvington. Bernie and Jeanne moved to Byron. She lived there until he died in April, 2004. She then moved to Mankato to be near her daughter and family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bernie; a daughter; Jan Swanson; a grandson, Jason Swanson; brothers Bill, Bobbie and Kenny Hotchkis; a sister, Helen Voss; and nephew, Charles Voss.
Survivors include brothers Don and Larry of Omaha; grandchildren, Jeanne Kuhlman, James Swanson, Amber Swanson, Jack Swanson, Jr.; a son-in-law, Jack Swanson, Sr.; great-grandchildren Ashley Swanson, Sean Swanson, Calvin Collins, Michael Collins, Hannah Collins, Loetta Swanson and Cammy Swanson.
Her funeral was held Tuesday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Pastors Dennis Beckmann and Jim Germer officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery, Byron. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, was in charge of the arrangements.

James Duffey
James R. Duffey, 84, the son of Louis Albert Duffey and Pauline Josephine (Carter) Duffey, was born Feb. 6, 1928, at Birmingham, Ala. He died April 2 at Belleville.
Jim grew up and attended the local public schools in Birmingham. On Dec. 27, 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a seaman, first class, until Oct. 22, 1947. He then joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from June 22, 1949 until Sept. 1, 1967. He retired as a T/SGT (E-6). During his service, he received the American Area Campaign, W.W. II Victory, Korean Service, United Nations National Defense, Good Conduct, and the Air Force Commendation metals.
On Feb. 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Shadduck. To this union was born three daughters. After 1970, the couple settled in Formoso where he worked for the Jewell County Highway Department until he retired in 1991. In 1992, they moved to Belleville to make their home.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 49 years and a lifetime V.F.W. member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Louis Duffey.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, Belleville; three daughters Mrs. David Barnes (Lori), Smith Center, Mrs. Rick Allen (Staci), Lee's Summit, Mo., and Mrs. Kevin Mills (Tina), Chesapeake, Va.; one brother Robert Duffey; one sister Mary Castrignano; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, with Pastor Lennie Maxwell, officiating. Interment followed in Washington cemetery, rural Republic. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by the Belleville Masonic Lodge. Military graveside rites were conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Bostelmann
Harold Edward Bostelmann, 84, was born April 27, 1927, at Chester, the son of Gustav Franz and Erna (Jungck) Bostelman. A longtime farmer and resident of Bucklin, Kan., he died April 3, 2012, at the Hill Top House in Bucklin.
Harold served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Howard Gotschall VFW Post of Dodge City and the Julius F. Troehmel Post of the American Legion at Bucklin.
He married Wilma Stagner on April 3, 1949, at Franklin, Neb. She died on Sept. 16, 1984.
He was a member of Holy Cross Luteran Church of Dodge City and had been a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Bucklin.
Survivors include three sons, Roland of Emmett, Kan., David of Selby, S.D., and Brian of Bucklin; one daughter, Candace Ann Pitts of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Dwayne of Superior, and Wallace of Moscow, Tenn.; three sisters, Louise Barry of Battle Creek, Neb., Gladys Meisinger of Norfolk, and Ardyth Warnke of Pierce; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held Friday at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin, The Rev. Randall Jahnke of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City, officiated. Burial was in the Bucklin cemetery. Full military rites were provide by the American Legion Post, Bucklin. Casketbearers were Eric McCarty, Shadd Bostelman, John Wessel, Kurt Hayes, Bill Carr and Erik Weber.

Elsie Holtzen
Elsie Dorothea (Dumler) Holtzen, 72, of Davenport, the daughter of the Rev. Henry Dumler and Elsie (Paulsen) Dumler was born on June 7, 1939 in Davenport. She died last Wednesday.
Elsie attended and graduated from Davenport High School in 1957. She then attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.
She was united in marriage to Marvin Holtzen on Oct. 5, 1958 at Christ Lutheran Church. To this union, three daughters were born.
Elsie worked as a telephone operator during high school. She then worked in the accounting department in the Lincoln Telephone Office. After returning to Davenport, she worked in the Furniture Store from 1974-1982 and then in the meat locker as well as for Plains Tree Farm pruning trees. She also assisted her husband in working with their sheep, doing bookwork for Marv's Family Styling and his NK seed business.
She liked teaching Sunday school and was also a member of LWML. She also liked walking, biking, reading, music and devotions.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Henry and Elsie Dumler; her brother, Kenny Dumler; and a sister, Corinne Weyhrich.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of 53 years; three daughters, Mrs. Terry Bauer (Lori), Mrs. Rod Tegtmeier (Judy), and Mrs. Chad Karcher (Joni); grandchildren, Tyson
Bauer, Oak, Alesia Bauer, LaVista, Terron Bauer, Superior, Nicole Tegtmeier, Crete, Ryan Tegtmeier, Natalie Tegtmeier and Riley Tegtmeier, all of Davenport, Kyle Karcher, Kurt Karcher, and Kole Karcher, all of Geneva; great-grandchildren, Jaden Siegle, Payton Bauer, Tanner Bauer and baby Bauer, all of Oak; her brothers, Martin Dumler, Colorado, and Richard Dumler of Texas; and sister, Mrs. Bill Cogger (Connie), North Carolina.
Elsie chose to donate her body for pancreatic cancer research. A memorial service was held Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Davenport with the Rev. Timothy Prince officiating.

Edwin Hartman
Edwin (Ed) Hartman, 81, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, April 21, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Ed was born June 6, 1930, in Guide Rock, the son of Carl and Lillie (Leetch) Hartman. He attended school at Guide Rock, graduating from high school in 1948. He entered the Army on Dec. 3, 1952, and was discharged in 1954 at Fort Ord, Cal. He returned to Guide Rock.
Ed married and three children were born. They later divorced. In 1965 Ed married Roberta Phillips. The couple lived in North Platte and Ed was employed at Orkin Extermination and also installed carpet for Ozzie's Furniture.
In 1969 the Hartmans moved to Ogallala to work for the school system and Wheelers Store. He began employment for Union 76 Truck Stop when it opened in 1971. He retired in 1997.
He was active as a volunteer in the community, serving on the Keith County Housing Board, the Boot Hill Committee, and the cemetery board. Ed belonged to the RSVP and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for nearly 20 years. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting and wood work.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Kim Burtis; a grandson, Jason Brockman; two sisters, Mildred Hartman and Ann Morgan; and four brothers, Delbert, Marlin, Carl and Duane.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Hartman of Ogallala; five sons, Rick Hartman of Friday Harbor, Wash., Randy Hartman of Colorado Springs, David Burtis of Monticello, Ind., Randy Burtis of Alliance, and Rex Burtis of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Wendell Koppold (Jean) of Ogallala and Tammy Brockman of Lynden, Wash.; three brothers, Keith, Kenneth and Marvin Hartman, all of Guide Rock; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
His funeral was held Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Fellowship Hall with the Rev. John Stubenrouch officiating. Inurnment was in the Ogallala cemetery with military honors by Keith County Veterans Organization.

Jess Petsch
Jess Henry Petsch, 81, was born on Jan. 6, 1931, to Jess and Mable Carmen (Hill) Petsch in Hitchcock County. He died April 23.
Pete, as he was called, grew up on a farm near Stratton, attended Stratton Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1949. He joined the Navy in August, 1950, serving for 4 years.
Pete was united in marriage to Wilma Barnhart on April 17, 1952, in Denver. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Pete and Wilma moved back to Stratton where Pete farmed until moving to Lincoln, Neb., in 1956. Pete worked in Lincoln until they purchased land and moved to Superior. In 1963, Pete, Wilma and their family moved to the farm just east of Guide Rock.
Pete worked for Ely Grain Company and owned a custom harvesting company, while keeping up the farming operation.
One of Pete's proudest moments was serving on the Guide Rock School Board and awarding diplomas to all four of his children. Pete also was a dedicated member of the Guide Rock American Legion and served several terms as a member of the Webster County Board of Commissioners.
In addition to all of his jobs, he took the time to participate and attend his children's sporting events and was the announcer at the football games.
Pete and Wilma have four children, Jerry, Joy, Jack and Jeff.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Grace Rook and Sylvie Cobb, and one brother Gary.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; a brother, Dave Petsch of Guide Rock; a sister, Mrs. Ellis Sutton (Ruth) of McCook; his children, Jerry Petsch of Omaha, Mrs. Ken Simpson (Joy) of Gretna, Jack and Jeff Petsch of Guide Rock.
His funeral was held Friday at the United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with the Rev. Joel Rathbun officiating. Interment with military honors was in the Guide Rock cemetery. Williams Funeral Home, Red Cloud, was in charge of arrangements.
