Mike Lulow, 84

(Jan. 28) ALLIANCE - Lifelong area resident Mike Lulow, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Highland Park Care Center. He was born March 18, 1918, at Alliance, to John and Mary (Butler) Lulow.

He was a member of the Eagles. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Leanor and John Stearns of Benedict, Rosemary and Ed Petersen of Chadron, Margaret and John Fallon of Lindsay, Okla., Norma and Fred Powers of Weatherford, Okla., and Gloria and Roger Lauder, and Bonny and Dick Best, all of Alliance; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Sharon Lulow, and Steve and Linda Lulow, all of Alliance; and sons, Mike Lulow of Torrington, Wyo., and John Lulow of Hemingford; grandchildren, Jason and Mandy Lulow of Guernsey, Wyo., Cory and Vivian Lulow, and Keri Lulow, all of Torrington, Brad and Robyn Petersen of Hemingford, Ed and Pam Petersen of Bridgeport, Maranee and Mike Stowell of Boise, Idaho, Misty McNett of Fort Collins, Colo., Shawn McNett, Brett Lauder, Travis Lauder, and Joe Best, all of Alliance, Scott and Cheryl Stearns of Carlson, Bill and Tasha Stearns of Benedict, Jodi Stearns of Glenwood, Iowa, Darla and Scott Jorgenson of Watertown, S.D., Debbie North of Lincoln, Ken Stearns of Arizona, Brandi and Chris Kelley of Friend, Bryan and Gina Powers of McAlester, Okla., Michael and Shalee Powers, and Angie and Mike Karlin, all of Weatherford, Boyd Lulow of Grover Beach, Calif., Jon Lulow of Richmond, Mo., Casey and Nicole Lulow of Guam, Jamie Shoop of Hastings, Tina Hines of Maysville, Okla., Carmen and Buddy Cox of Lindsay, Angie Courtney of Greeley, Colo., and Chad Lauder of Chadron; 41 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leora Lulow, grandchildren, Kimberly Powers, and William Fallon, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Lulow.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Fr. Vince Parsons officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29,at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Prairie Haven Hospice, Highland Park Care Center, Hemingford Community Care Center, or to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Linabell A. Tatum, 97

(Jan. 29) ALLIANCE - Linabell A. Tatum died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance. She was 97. She was born Oct. 4, 1903, in Pender, Neb., to Fred and Isabelle (Chase) Ammons.

Her family moved to Chadron in her childhood. On June 15, 1925 she was married to George V. Tatum at Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron. They moved to Alliance that year and she began working for the L.B. Murphy Company. In 1941 she began teaching second grade in Alliance Public Schools and continued that until her retirement in 1968.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church where she served as organist for many years. She was also a member of St. Matthew's Altar Guild, A.C.W., Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star, Past Regent of D.A.R., and also a member of P.E.O.

Her husband, and her sister, Meredith Fisher, preceded her in death. Her survivors are her nephew and his wife, C. Fred and Delores Fisher of Rapid City, S.D., niece, Jane R. Fisher of Phoenix, Ariz., special friend, Roberts Laing of Alliance, and her cousin, Max Sclappenbach of Agoura, Calif., two great nephews, two great-nieces, and five great-great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Father Paul Mottl will officiate. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leo E. Zuver, 83

(Jan. 29) RUSHVILLE - Leo E. Zuver, 83, lifelong resident of Rushville, died Friday, Jan. 26, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1917, at Rushville. His parents were Leo E. and Mary Ellen (Hutchison) Zuver.

He married Judi Gowan on May 23, 1964, at Gordon. He was a member of the Wesleyan Gospel Chapel in Gordon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Rushville American Legion Post and D.A.V.

He is survived by his wife, Judi Zuver of the home in Rushville; three daughters, Veronica Zuver of Rushville, Vanessa Gottier of Albion, and Valerie Oakleaf of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Zuver's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Wesleyan Gospel Chapel in Gordon, with Rev. Ruby I. Long officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Rushville. Memorials may be made to the Wesleyan Gospel Chapel or Nebraska Boys Ranch, in care of Security First Bank, P.O. Box 550, Rushville, NE 69360.

Helen K. Ewing, 90

(Jan. 29) ALLIANCE - Helen K. Ewing, 90, died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She was born August 26, 1911 at Presho, S.D. to Elvis and Anna (Weinandy) Cadle.

She married Perl A. Ewing June 2, 1934, at Bridgeport. She is survived by her brothers, Henry Cadle of Alliance, Harold Cadle of Cannon Beach, Ore., and Frank Cadle of Parma, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Hazel Pauley.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Alliance Cemetery, with Rev. Dan Floyd officiating. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Glen L. Merriman, 67

(Jan. 29) SMITHVILLE, Okla. - Glen L. Merriman, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1934, at Shadehill, S.D.

He lived at Lead and Spearfish, S.D., while he worked for Homestake Gold Mine; Sturgis, S.D., when he worked at Brown Swiss Creamery and at Rapid City, S.D., where he worked in construction. He then lived at Hemingford before moving to Texas and to Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Geri of Smithville; daughters Cindy Wilson of Douglas, Wyo., and Glenda Merriman of Rapid City; sons Darol Merriman of Whittman, Ariz., and Todd Merriman of Rapid City; and four grandchildren. He also is survived by two step-sons, Jim and Jeff; two step-daughters, Jacque and Julie; brothers, Donald Merriman of Shadehill, S.D., and Roger Merriman of Pierre, S.D.; and sisters Lucille Lutz of Spearfish, S.D., Marvelyn Braaten of Locust Grove, Okla., and Elizabeth Walker of Bowman, N.D.

Burial will be at Smithville.

Marvin C. Yardley, 83

(Jan. 29) HEMINGFORD - Marvin C. Yardley, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Hemingford Community Care Center. He was born April 16, 1918 in Sullivan County, Mo. to Clyde and Verle (Hill) Yardley.

His family moved to Hemingford in 1928. He graduated from Hemingford High School and attended Chillicothe Business School in Missouri. On Oct. 6, 1940, he married Elva Fortune in Hemingford. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. After his discharge he returned to Hemingford and worked as a postal clerk in the Hemingford Post Office for 30 years until his retirement in 1972. After his retirement he drove the school bus and continued carrying mail on the Dunlap for six years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 9 where he served as finance officer for several years and as past commander and the Hemingford Golf Association. He also was a retired member of the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department. At the age of 66 He completed a flying course and received his private pilot's license. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Marvin Kent and Jackie Yardley of Germany; Steve and Loleta Yardley of West Virginia; Laura and Dennis Hinchley of Eaton, Colo.; Jim and Mary Yardley and Jane and Marty Kuhn of Hemingford;13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one sister Reva Osborn of Norwalk, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother Theron Yardley.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan.y 31, at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, with Rev. Craig Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Community Care Center. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Glennis L. Watson, 42

(Jan. 30) GERING - Glennis L. Watson, 42, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home in Gering. She was born Oct. 23, 1958, at Lusk, Wyo. Her parents were John E. ad Laural "Lolly" (Hughes) Lohr.

She attended Lusk elementary and middle schools, and graduated from Niabrara County High School in 1977. She then earned a B.S. in Science from Eastern Wyoming College. She was married to Mick Watson on Dec. 31, 1984, at Torrington, Wyo. Mr. Watson preceded her in death.

She was employed by Regional West Home Care as a fiscal coordinator for 21 years. She was active in 4-H for nine years.

Her son, Cody Watson of Gering; her parents, John and Laurel "Lolly" Lohr of Lusk, Wyo.; and grandmother Daisy Hughes of Wheatland, Wyo, survives her. Her sister, Lorna Penlerick of Alliance; and her brother, John Wayne Lohr of Glendale, Ariz, also survive her. Her maternal grandfather, Gilbert "Tuffy" Hughes; paternal grandparents, Harlan and Ruby Lohr; four uncles; one aunt; infant brother; and infant sister also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Watson's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Richard Neal Hughes officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Cory Watson Trust Fund, 1225 13th ST., Gering, NE 69341.

Ruth Arlene Snyder, 67

(Jan. 30) BELLEVILLE, Kan. - Ruth Arlene Snyder, 67, lifetime resident of the Belleville, Kan., area, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Republic County Hospital in Belleville. She was born March 29, 1933, at Belleville. Her parents were George and Fannie Williams Moxham.

She attended rural school and graduated from Belleville High School. She was married to Walter Snyder on May 7, 1951. She worked for many years as an office assistant wit the Kansas State Department of Transportation. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Eagles Auxiliary and Republic County Recreation Golf Association.

She is survived by her husband, Walt of the home in Belleville; son Eric Snyder of Newton, Kan; two daughters, Julie Bottger of Alliance and Jana Skipton of Clarkston, Mich; and seven grandchildren. Four sisters also survive her, Dorothy Richardson of Belleville, Phyllis Sherwood of Concordia, Kan., Gweneth Eickman of Crete, Neb., and Velma June Baldwin of Goodland, Kan.

Mrs. Snyder's funeral was Monday, Jan. 29, at United Methodist Church. Burial was on Belleville City Cemetery.

Mabel A. Hamaker, 81

(Jan. 30) ALLIANCE - Mabel Adareen Hamaker, 81, of Alliance died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center. She was born Sep. 23, 1920 in Marsland.

Her parents were Jessie (Leavitt) and Louis. She was married to Casey Hamaker in 1946. She was an avid piano player of honkey-tonk music. She played by ear and played for dances for years in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. She also competed in several music contests and took several first place awards. She is survived by her daughters, Gladys Morrison of Kansas City, Mo., and Connie and husband Joe Grote of Lewellen; grandchildren, Jack Morrison, Jr. and wife Sherrie of Omaha, Lori Morrison Murphy and husband Barrie of Portland, Ore., Brad Grote and wife Kay of Morrill, Cory Grote of Cromwell, Okla., and Nicole Grote Grider and husband Zane of Shawnee, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Megan MaKenna, Ryan Murphy and Jay, Holly and Riley Grote, Lainee and Laycin Grider; She also is also survived by her sister, Grace Leetch of Marsland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Glen, L.A. "Ardell" and E.G. "Ernie", and sisters Pearl Daugherty and May Powell.

Mrs. Hamaker's memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Hemingford United Methodist Church in Hemingford with Rev. Craig Collins officiating. At her request, her body was bequeathed to the Nebraska Anatomical Board in Omaha. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff is in charge of arrangements.

Fred C. McFall, 89

(Jan. 30) ALLIANCE - Fred C. McFall, 89, died Jan. 28, 2002, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center at Alliance. He was born Oct. 22, 1912, at Alliance to Lee and Virgie (Allen) McFall where he grew up and received his education.

He married Esther Schonard on Nov. 22, 1933, at Bridgeport. He lived in and around Alliance all of his life, ranching until 1963. He did private trucking until 1967, at which time he became a Field Inspector for the Guardian State Bank. He retired from the bank Dec. 31, 1978. He loved his work at the bank because it gave him an opportunity to meet and work with all his lifelong friends. After his retirement, he and Esther spent their winters in Arizona with other Nebraska "Snowbirds." He is survived by his wife Esther; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Pat McFall of Tallahassee, Fla; daughter-in-law, Connie McFall of Alliance; grandchildren, Michael McFall, Patrick McFall, Scott McFall, Juli Long, Jami Hack and Jill Harris; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Richard, and brothers Herb and Harry.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2 at the First Christian Church with the Reverend Walter Cline officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Health Care Center, First Christian Church or to Prairie Haven Hospice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael J. Beal, 62

(Jan. 30) TOPEKA, Kan. - Michael J. Beal, 62, formerly of Alliance, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at St. Frances Hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1940, at Alliance to Cecil and Agnes (Newberry) Beal.

He graduated from St. Agnes Academy and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. On Sept. 30, 1967, he married to Frances A. McDowell at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He worked as a service man for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company while living in Alliance. They moved to Lincoln in 1994 and to Topeka in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Tina M. Beal of Lincoln, Jeffrey M. Beal and Tammy L. Beal of Topeka, Cynthia A. Beal of Alliance; and grandchildren Anthony, Louis and Ethan. He also is survived by his sister Margaret (Art) McCarty of Omaha, brother Duane (Connie) Beal of Alliance, sister Nancy Beal of Alliance, his twin sister Molly (Willy) Rieck of Colorado Springs, Colo., and sister Dorothy (Richard) Stull of Bridgeport; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dr. Edward McNulty.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Febr. 1 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at Holy Rosary Church. Memorials may be given to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School, 1750 Stone, Topeka, KS 66604. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
