Thomas McClellan
Thomas Earl McClellan, 87, of Belleville died Feb. 25, 2015 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville. He was born on June 28, 1927, in Denmark, Kan., to Anna Christina (Stephenson) and James Adison McClellan. Tom grew up in Lincoln Kan. After high school he joined the United States Army and served during World War II. He was united in marriage to Virginia Clark on Sept. 9, 1950.
Tom had several jobs throughout his life including a police officer in Salina, managing a dry cleaner in Lawrence, Kan., salesman for C.D. Smith Drug Company, salesman for Melton Motor Company, and a U.S. deputy marshall.
Tom, Virginia, and their daughters moved to Belleville in the early 1960s. They later bought Jack and Nora's Cleaners and Shoe Store and renamed the business Holiday Cleaners. Tom formed the band Tommy's Western Swing Sounds and played in many different dance halls. He and his bandmates appeared on local radio stations and televison shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia in 1998, and a daughter, Julie Bowen in 2006.
Survivors include his daughter Mrs. Roger James (Kris) of Belleville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His funeral was held Saturday at the Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Inurnment will be at a later date in Lincoln cemetery, Lincoln, Kan.

Vernita Lipker
Vernita L. Lipker, 86, of Davenport, the daughter of Clarence Marion and Amy Maude (Eastman) Vorce, was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Western, Neb. She died last Monday at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler.
Vernita graduated from Tobias High School where she was the valedictorian. She attended college and received a teaching certificate. Following that she taught at a country school for two years and then taught at the Tobias grade school. Vernita moved to Lincoln, Neb., where she worked as operator for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company. She married Harvey Lipker on June 1, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Vernita enjoyed playing the piano and helping with the farming operations alongside Harvey. She especially liked to cook.
Survivors include her children, Mrs. Tom Eickman (Gloria) of Deshler and Mrs. Charlie Heyen (Joyce) of Davenport; a brother, Don Vorce of Davenport, and a sister, Carol Bennett of Florissant, Mo.; grandchildren, Amber Bruyere and Jeremy Eickman of Omaha, Mrs. Craig (Tonja) Vyhnalek of Wilber, Melissa of Fremont, Chelsey Heyen of Bridgeport, and Shane Heyen of Davenport; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Cameron and Garrett Vyhnalek, Braelynn Renz, Sidney Bruyere, and Tinsley and Keean Roffers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey, on May 18, 2010; and a brother, Marvin Vorce.
Her funeral was Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Davenport. The Urbauer-Price Funeral Home in Davenport was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew Halls
Andrew Scott Halls, 33, of Longmont, Colo., died Feb. 21, 2015. He was born in Longmont on April 14, 1981, to Charles and Lynn Halls. Andrew grew up on Sunset Golf Course. He had a passion for golf, fishing, cooking, as well as his family, friends and life. He was known to those close to him as Drew. He was a happy go lucky guy who always had a smile on his face, had a big heart and a zest for life.
He attended Skyline High School in Longmont. Drew had various jobs throughout his life, but he enjoyed owning his own moving company the most.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Charlie Halls and Lynn (Lonney) Hallum; his daughter, Kaiya, longtime girlfriend, Kimberly Bailey, and her sons, Willy, Christopher, David and Nathan; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth Halls, Jeri and Lynn Lewis, and Wylie and Evelyn Blair.
A memorial service was held on Feb. 28 at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.

Murlin Smith
Murlin Jerome Smith was born Dec. 26, 1935 at Tipton, Kan., to Pete and Mary (Henke) Smith, and passed away March 2, 2015, at home. He attended school in Ionia and graduated from Jewell High School with the Class of 1954. After high school, Murlin worked on road construction until he was drafted into the service in 1958 and was on active duty in Germany until 1960.
On Dec. 28, 1960, Murlin was united in marriage to Doris Thomas in Mankato at the Catholic church. They were blessed with two children, Ronald and Lorena. Most of their married life was in Jewell where they celebrated 54 wonderful and happy years together.
Murlin worked construction for the Jewell County Road Department until he decided to follow his son's dream and started a harvest crew. He harvested until the doctors said no more. That is when he got to enjoy more of his time fishing, going to the casino, gardening and playing a good game of cards.
Left to mourn Murlin's life are his wife Doris; son Ronald Smith and wife Carla of Jewell, Kan.; daughter Lorena and her husband Kevin Kellogg, Castle Rock, Colo.; grandchildren Levi and Dakota Smith, Kaitlyn and Grant Kellogg; sister Marlene and husband Roger Dunlop of Bueno Vista, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Murlin was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill; and sister-in-law Carolyn.
Visitation was held Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the home, 410 S. Columbus in Jewell, Kan. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday March 6, at the Jewell Community Center, Jewell, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kan. Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 N. Broadway, Jewell, Kansas handled the arrangements.

Ward Appleby
Ward Appleby, 45, accountant, died Feb. 22, 2015, in Belle Plaine.
Survivors include his mother, Kay Hatfield, Belle Plaine; father, Dennis Appleby and wife, Judy, Wichita Falls, Texas; sister, Gwinn Appleby, San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Vance Appleby, Mulvane; step-sisters, Stacey Sanchez and husband, Brad, Melissa Groud and husband, Chris, all of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roger Hatfield.
His funeral was held on March 4 at Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Hatfield-Smith Funeral Home, Belle Plaine.

Newell Alexander
Newell E. Alexander, 85, died March 8, 2015 at Bryan Memorial Hospital East, Lincoln, Neb. Services will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, today (Thursday) from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present to visit with friends from 6 p.m .to 8 p.m.

Donna Benson
Donna Lee (Jeppesen) Benson, 87, died Saturday. She was born Dec. 31, 1926 in Nuckolls County.
She was a graduate of Superior High School with the Class of 1943. Donna worked as a bookkeeper for Hill Oil Co., before moving to Wichita where she met her future husband, Dale. She later became a resident of Augusta, Ga. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She enjoyed working for the Richmond County Board of Education as a school secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Anne (Jensen) Jeppesen; husband, Dale L. Benson; sisters, Sylvia Cox, Marion Andersen and Shirley Ann Jeppesen; and a step-grandchild, Michael McClellan.
Survivors include sons: Michael D. Benson of Lincolnton, Ga., David H. Benson of Appling, Ga., and Weldon J. Benson of Bonaire, Ga.; daughter, Rebecca Lee Benson of Augusta, Ga.; sisters, Evelyn Sweet and Betty Smith both of Superior and Susan Wellman of Minnesota; and five grandchildren, Brittany McManus, Kelsey Benson, Dale Benson, Ryan Benson and Haley Benson. Her funeral was held Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Augusta Ga. Pastor Paulwyn Bolek officiated.

Daniel Stineman
Daniel Clyde Stineman died unexpectedly on Feb. 18, 2015, at the Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen, Texas. Dan was born Dec. 21, 1940, to Clyde and Lois Stineman in Superior, Neb. He graduated from Superior High School in 1958 and from Kearney State Teachers College in 1962. Dan was married to Armona Banks in 1963. They were blessed with two children; a daughter, Susan, and a son, Jon.
After teaching and coaching for 10 years, Dan made a career change. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry in 1977 and started a dental practice in Kimball, Neb. Retiring from private practice after 30 years, he continued working in his profession providing dental care to the service men and women at various Army posts in Kansas, Alabama, and Texas.
While spending the winter in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, Dan and Armona made the decision to give up the full-time motor home life for a permanent home in San Benito, Texas in 2010. Dan found a part-time dental position providing care at the Judge Mario E. Ramirez, Jr. Juvenile Justice Center in Edenburg, Texas were he was working at the time of his death.
Dan is survived by wife, Armona: daughter, Susan (James) Nelson of Lincoln; son, Jon (Kandace) Stineman of Tilden; grandson, Rick (Dani) Wasielewski of Lincoln; granddaughters, Taylor Nelson of Lincoln; Samantha Nelson of Lincoln; Anna Stineman of Tilden and Alison Stineman of Tilden; great-granddaughter, Avery Wasielewski of Lincoln; sister, Sharon (Ed) Kleven of Hurst, Texas; brothers, Phil (Janet) Stineman of Lincoln, John (Carmen) Stineman of Lincoln, and Nate (Stephanie) Stineman of Oxford; brother-in-law, Marvin (Sally) Banks of Alamo, Texas, sisters-in-law, Elaine (Howard) Miller of Hardy, and Arlene (Marty) Tietjen of Superior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lois Stineman; parents-in-law, Iiliff and Lena Banks; and nephews, Justin Stineman and Nate Tietjen.
A private celebration of life and memorial are planned for a later date.

Dale Mlynarik
Dale Mlynarik, 50, Maryland, died April 23.
Dale is survived by his wife, Karen, to whom he was married almost 30 years; daughters, Laura and husband Mrs. Joseph Buskirk (Laura) and Tamara Mlynarik; son, Calvin Mlynarik; grandchildren, Evelyn and Henry Buskirk; mother, Jeannie Johnson, Blair; brother, Steven Mlynarik, Fort Calhoun; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He always liked dogs and especially enjoyed the furry "children" that shared his life. Dale is a veteran of both the United States Army and Kansas and Maryland National Guard. He was active in the community, coaching and umpiring for Rising Sun Little League and serving with various service organizations. His latest passion was the Warrior Motorcycle Club which is dedicated to helping veterans and their families. Dale enjoyed the freedom of riding his 2007 Harley Davidson.
A celebration of Dale's life will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at R.T. Foard Funeral Home P.A., Rising Sun, Md., Visitation was held at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the Thursday service. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Brookview cemetery.

Lisa Rada
Lisa Ann (Johanek) Rada, 53, died Thursday at her home in McLoud, Okla. She was born Sept. 20, 1961, in Belleville to Kenneth and Karla (Rogers) Johanek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter. Jill Ann Johanek; and sons, Kade and Kyle Petree.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Rada, McLoud, Okla.; sons, James Petree, Anaheim, Calif., Kenneth Rada and Louis Rada, Jr., McLoud, Okla., Joseph Rada, Del City, Okla., daughter, Mrs. Edward Rowe (Jobeth), Yukon, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Patrick Schlotterback (Jacqueline), Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, Jay Johanek, Esbon; grandchildren, Raylee and Skylee Rowe and Kinlee Rada.
Visitation was yesterday (Wednesday) at the mortuary. Celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary. Burial followed in the St. Elizabeth Catholic cemetery, Esbon.

Cheryl Hipple
Cheryl K. Hipple, 70, died Saturday at the Good Samaritan Society's Perkins Pavilion, Hastings.
Her funeral was held Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Hastings. The Rev. Steven Peeler officiated. A grave-side committal service was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Hardy cemetery. Visitation
She was born, May 27, 1944, at Long Beach, Calif., to Marion Dee and Thelma Marie (Martens) Gillilan. She moved with her family to Hardy where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Hardy High School in 1962.
Cheryl attended Fairbury Junior College graduating in 1964, and then received a bachelor's degree in education from Kearney State College in 1966. She taught grades K-3 at Sabetha. She later taught at Lincoln School in Hastings and then at Norman. Her last year of teaching full-time, was with the Sandy Creek School District at Glenvil Elementary. She later did substitute teaching.
She married the Rev. Elwood Hipple on Dec. 29, 1974, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil.
She was a gifted pianist and would substitute when needed in all congregations her husband served.
Cheryl entered the nursing home in Sutherland on April 7, 2009. After Elwood's retirement in 2010,she moved to Perkins Pavilion in the Good Samaritan Village at Hastings where she resided until her death.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Elwood Hipple of Hastings.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, was in charge of the arrangements.
