Mary Mumford
Mary Edith Mumford, 70, the daughter of Ed Berry and Kathryn (Ewing) Berry Marrs, was born Sept. 1, 1944, in Denver, Colo. She died April 19 at the Bryan LGH Medical Center East at Lincoln, Neb,
Mary grew up with 2 sisters and a brother. She attended schools in Nelson and Riverside, Calif. She was a 50-plus year member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Chester.
She was a member of the Red Hats Club and served on the Chester-Hubbell-Byron and Thayer Central school boards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Kathryn; a sister, Donna Kay Buss; a brother, Ed Berry; and son a Christopher Eugene Mumford.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; sons, Tony of Lincoln, Neb., and Bruce, of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Ross, Wade, Anika and Audrey; and her siste, Jeannie Johnston of Nelson.
Her funeral was held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Chester with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating.
Pallbearers were Eric Nutsch, Dallen George, Chas Cleveland, Russ Raatz, Jeff Mussman, Dan Poppe, Darren Nutsch and Tom Watt. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Jessica, Wade, Anika, Audrey and Ross.
Private family inurnment was in the Chester cemetery.
Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.

Merwyn D. Renz
Merwyn Dean (Cap) Renz, 84, the oldest son of Ebel C.H. "Dick" and Hazel (Larsen) Renz, was born on Aug. 11, 1930, on his parents' farm south and east of Ruskin. He died last Wednesday at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler.
He was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Cap attended rural schools in the Ruskin and Hardy area and Ruskin High School.
In January of 1950 he joined the Air Force and was stationed at England Air Force Base, Alexandria, La., where he met Mary Lou James. He was sent overseas to Chaumont Air Base, France, in 1952. In 1953 he sent for Mary Lou to join him and they were married in Wiesbaden, Germany, on Feb. 18, 1953. They lived in Chaumont until his discharge from the service in November of 1953 at which time they returned to Ruskin. To this union three sons were born, Timothy Dean, Danny James, and Scott Christian.
He was engaged in farming and the trucking business in the Ruskin area.
Cap was a member of the Ruskin American Legion. He also served on the Ruskin School Board, Ruskin Fire Department and Bethany Lutheran Church Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou of Ruskin; sons Tim of Lincoln, Neb., Dan of Ruskin, and Scott of Grand Island; five grandchildren, Cory Renz, Grand Island, Mrs. John Burd (Katie) of Hebron, Bret Renz of Grand Island, Zach Renz of Ashland and Danielle Renz of Ruskin; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Burd, Madalyn Renz, Kira Renz, Treyton Renz, Harper Renz, Sean Burd, Noah Renz and Jacob Enck; a brother, Berdon "Cork" Renz of Deshler; and a sister, Judy Werner of Carleton.
His funeral was held on Saturday from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Jonathan Jensen officiating.
Pallbearers were Cory Renz, Bret Renz, Zachary Renz, Clint Werner, Barry Renz, John Burd, Gerald Simonson and Larry Judy. Honorary pallbearers were Katie Burd, Danielle Renz, Nathan Burd, Madalyn Renz, Kira Renz, Treyton Renz, Harper Renz, Sean Burd, Noah Renz and Jacob Enck.
Interment with full military honors was in the Spring Creek cemetery at Ruskin,

"Larry" Dailey
The funeral for "Larry" Dailey, 50, of Wahoo will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
He died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at his home.
Dailey was born May 29, 1953, in Wahoo. He attended St. Wenceslaus Elementary School and graduated in 1971 from Bishop Neumann Central Catholic High School, both in Wahoo. He married Mary Haba on May 21, 1977, in Wahoo. He was a 23-year employee of the University of Nebraska Agricultural Research Development Center in Mead.
He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo and the Bishop Neumann High School Athletics Booster Club. He volunteered for many community activities.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, J. Kyle (and wife, Deb) of Omaha; a daughter, Kendra of Wahoo; his mother, Genevieve Dailey of Wahoo; a sister, Kathleen (Mrs. Charlie) Jelinek of Weston; five brothers, Dan (and wife, Kelly), Pat (and wife, Linda), Gerald (and wife, Jean), Tom (and wife, Stacey) and Terry (and wife, Lori), all of Wahoo; parents-in-law, Joe and Eddie Haba of Wahoo; two sisters-in-law, Jody (Mrs. Rex) Gittins and Kristy (Mrs. Don) Fritzinger, all of Wahoo; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The Revs. Charles Townsend and Rudy Oborny will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and continues one hour prior to service time at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery in Wahoo.

Fritz Grueber
Frederick H. (Fritz) Grueber, 88, the son of Walter and Anna (Mohrman) Grueber, was born in a farmhouse on Dec. 13, 1926, south of Byron in Republic County. He died Thursday at the Rosebrook Care Center at Edgar.
He attended school in Byron, graduating from Byron High School. He was a veteran of WWII and served on the USS Lexington in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was an excellent handyman. He worked well with metal or wood. His cedar chests were a big attraction of the Carol Joy Holling annual quilt auction. He served on the school board of the Highland District 66 school and was known as Mayor Fritz of the Carol Joy Holling Lutheran Camp.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Janet Green on April 16, 1952. This union was blessed with four children.
Fritz was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on May 17, 1991; and a brother, Gene.
Survivors include his sons, Brian and Clark of Nelson, and Paul of Carbon Cliff, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Boyd Anderson (Anne) of York; and eight grandchildren, Laurel, Bill, Karl, Ahren, Gabriela, Adam, Hannah and Sarah.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating.
Visitation was held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Laurel Uhler, Bill Grueber, Karl Grueber, Ahren Grueber, Gabriela Grueber, Adam Grueber, Hannah Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Dan Laughlin and Kevin Uhler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Gumaer, Ron Meyer and Ali Claycamp.
Interment will be in the Spring Creek cemetery at Ruskin.
Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson is in charge of the arrangements.

Harold Brown
Harold Eugene Brown, 84, was born April 27, 1930, at Smith Center to Clifford V. and Zetta M. (Fisher) Brown. He died Thursday at Rolling Hills Health Care, Topeka.
He attended public grade schools at Scandia, Wichita (Plainview), and Rural Mercer School in southern Republic County. He attended Concordia High School, graduating from Scandia High School in 1950.
On Aug. 27, 1950, Harold was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Henderson at Belleville. They lived in the communities of Belleville, Scandia, Haviland, Kinsley, Burr Oak and Courtland.
Harold was a retired service station owner and attendant. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and attended the United Methodist Church, Courtland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clifford; four brothers: Arlie, Bob, Glenn and Jim; and one sister, Violet. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Courtland; four sons, Doug Brown of Texas, Sam Brown of Courtland, Scott Brown of Bismarck, N.D., and Dale Brown of Great Bend; one sister, Delores Freed, of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funerals are planned for 3 p.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Topeka, and 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Courtland with Pastor Kathy Aeillo, officiating. Interment will be at the Riverview cemetery, Scandia. Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jennifer Healey
Jennifer L. (Berry) Healey, 41, of Hampton, Iowa, died last Wednesday at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. She was born Aug. 25, 1973, to Thomas and Linda (Varrelmann) Berry in Hampton, Iowa. Jennifer graduated from Hampton Dumont High School in 1991. She was united in marriage to Daryl Healey on February 21, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nev.
While living in Superior, Jennifer was the first women to join the Superior Volunteer Fire Department and Superior Elks Lodge. She was an avid golfer and had many friends in the Superior area. Jennifer worked for local insurance agencies before returning to Hampton where she worked at Franklin County Farm Bureau. She was an active member of the Hampton Chamber of Commerce and The Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, where she was Ambassador of the Year in 2013 and also was Main Street Volunteer of the Year. She enjoyed being outside, working in her flower garden and sitting on her patio with Daryl.
Survivors include her husband, Daryl Healey, of Hampton; a son, Taylan Healey; a daughter, Gracelyn Healey; parents, Thomas and Linda Berry; a brother, Steve Berry, mother-in-law, Doris Healey, of Superior; stepchildren, Andrew Healey of Superior, Shane Healey of Omaha, Mrs. James Dalrymple (Stephanie) of Colorado Springs; and step-grandchildren, Hunter Healey, Isabelle, Gabrielle and Kaniel Dalrymple.

Mary Ohmstede
Mary Marie Ohmstede, 93, died last Wednesday at College View Assisted Living in Hastings. She was born March 22, 1922, and raised on a farm in Northbranch, one of 10 children of Iva (Lamb) and James Silsby.
She attended Burr Oak and Guide Rock high schools, graduating from Burr Oak. During WWII, she worked with her sister, Madeline, as a shipyard welder in Washington state and earned money to put herself through nursing school at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, where she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing. Mary then moved back to the area and worked at Mary Lanning Hospital, Brodstone Memorial Hospital and Webster County Hospitals, ending her nursing career as a school nurse for E.S.U. No. 9.
On May 8, 1949, she was united in marriage with Lewis Ohmstede, who preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2004. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church until she moved to assisted living in April 2012. She enjoyed playing and watching golf and followed University of Nebraska football. She was a den mother for the local Cub Scout troop for several years.
Her children recall her as a "first responder" for all the car accidents at the intersection of highways 78 and 136 and community members seeking her opinion about a health concern. Even after moving to assisted living, she considered herself part of the staff, looking after the residents who needed physical assistance. She only stopped nursing when she physically was unable to assist others, after her 93rd birthday.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and seven siblings, Doyle Silsby, Thelma Pierson, Ferne Harris, Belle Kandelin, Glendora Paxton, Madeline Pinkston and Boyd Silsby.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Ohmstede and wife, Bonnie, of Florida, Mark Ohmstede of Guide Rock and daughter, Jan Ohmstede, of Colorado; grandchildren, Jodi Dowden, Jason Parker, and Lacey Ohmstede Vickery; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Gabriel and Jayde Dowden, and Madeline and Cecelia Vickery. Also surviving are sisters, Berniece Harris and Edythe Francis and husband, Harold, all of Superior; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Her funeral was held Tuesday at Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with The Rev. Warren Schoming officiating.

Mary Harris
Mary Lucille Harris, 90, of Courtland, died Saturday at Republic County Hospital in Belleville. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, on a farm northwest of Studley, Kan., to Rachel (Stithem) and Henry Niblock.
Mary married Sylvan Harris on May 24, 1942, in Moreland and they moved to Wichita. In 1946, Mary and Sylvan moved to Plainville, where she worked at the hospital and then the nursing home. They moved again in 1967 to Courtland. She began cooking at the local school and worked there until retiring. Mary liked taking care of the grandchildren and spoiling them for their parents. Her favorite pastimes besides her grandchildren were cooking, playing cards, dancing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvan, in 2011; sisters Elsie and Alice; and one brother, Junior. Mary will be remembered by her sons, Dennis Harris, Minneapolis, Kan., Floyd Harris, Downs; and Larry Harris, Solomon; daughter, Mrs. Dale Crumb (Peggy), Dodge City; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Duane Dechant (Marge), Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Don Niblock, Hoxie; other relatives and a community of friends.
Her funeral was held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Courtland, with Pastor Kathy Aeillo officiating. Burial was in the Courtland cemetery. Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, assisted the Harris family with these arrangements.

Mary Gebers
Mary R. Gebers, 93, died Saturday in Englewood, Colo. Mary was born July 6, 1922, on the family farm near Webber to James and Hazel Rhoads. She grew up on the family farm in Kansas, going through the dust bowl and the Great Depression during her youth. Mary was involved in church and liked music and singing; for many years later in life she was part of a singing group that performed at nursing homes.
Mary retired as a payroll clerk from the Federal Aviation Administration after 27 years of service. Mary is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Adams (Rosemary); grandchildren, Levi Adams and Angela Hunze; great-grandchildren, Bobby and Rachael; sister, Lois Winterbottom, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dennis Gebers; and her sister, Norma Zoltenko.
