Ethel Jane Petersen
Ethel Jane Petersen, the daughter of Nels C. and Tina (Jensen) Nelsen was born on July 22, 1924, at rural Hardy, Neb. She died on Dec. 29, 2015, at the age of 91 years, five months and seven days.
Ethel Jane was baptized June 19, 1925, at Bethany Lutheran Church by Rev. J.C. Carlsen. She was confirmed May 28, 1939, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy by Rev. Frank S. Delo. Ethel Jane attended grade school and high school at Hardy, graduating with the Class of 1941. She also had the honor of attending Girls' State her junior year. Jane worked with Dr. Leigh in Hardy as a dental assistant.
She was united in marriage to Hartley Petersen on June 9, 1946, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy. This union was blessed with five children. Jane was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 60 years. She was known for accompanying various choirs, small groups and soloists. It was not uncommon for Jane and Hart to stop their farm work in midday to attend a funeral as soloist or accompanist.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church Women and Bethany Altar Guild. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed working side by side with Hart on the farm. She delighted in her grandchildren, caring for and playing with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley, in 2007; and her sisters, Ruth Braun and Fern Christiansen.
She is survived by her five children, Beverly Wemhoff and husband, John, of Platte Center, Neb., Roger Petersen of Hardy, Neb., Rosann Gettis and husband, Tim, of Hillsboro, Ore., Arlo Petersen and wife, Ava, of Ruskin, Neb., and Wayne Petersen and wife, DeeAnn, of Nora, Neb.; 15 grandchildren, Theresa Mitchell and husband, Kenneth, of Columbus, Neb., Brian Wemhoff and wife, Mindy, of Columbus, Neb., Barbara Johnson and husband, Christopher, of Platte Center, Neb., CM1 Paul Wemhoff of Pass Christian, Miss., Jessica Kohout and husband, Nick, of Clatonia, Neb., Derek Farnstrom and wife, Christy, of Hebron, Neb., Kyla Petersen of Lincoln, Neb., Paige Petersen of Lincoln, Neb., Gregory Gettis and wife, Amy, of Beaverton, Ore., Alison Gettis of Hillsboro, Ore., Eric Reinsch and wife, Sidnee, of Ruskin, Neb., Andrea Petersen and husband, Bret Sleight, of Elkhorn, Neb., Emily Petersen of Omaha, Neb., and Amanda and Daniel Petersen of Nora, Neb; 13 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jane Johnson of Platte Center, Neb., Alyssa Wieser, Abbi McDonald and Colton Wemhoff of Columbus, Neb., Mackenzie, Bailee, Caiden and Amelia Gettis of Beaverton, Ore., Hannah and Jacob Kohout of Clatonia, Neb., Riley Farnstrom of Hebron, Neb., and Wade Reinsch of Ruskin, Neb. Three sisters-in-law, Janette Lubkemann of Ankeny, Iowa, Bonita Bakker of Middleton, Wis., and Marilyn Meyer and husband, Marvin, of Omaha, Neb.; one brother-in-law, Lyle Petersen and wife, Beverly, of Blue Hill, Neb.; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, Neb., with Pastor Christine Hjelmstad officiating.
Music was "Precious Lord Take My Hand," "Jesus Loves Me," "In The Garden" and "Because He Lives" with Dorcas Judy as organist.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Brian Wemhoff, Paul Wemhoff, Dylan Johnson, Eric Reinsch, Daniel Peteresen and Gregory Gettis.
Interment was in the Spring Creek cemetery at Ruskin, Neb.
Memorials are suggested to go to Bethany Lutheran Church or Parkview Haven Nursing Home.

Maxine Hall
Stella Maxine Hall, the daughter of Edmon and Mary Alean (Knight) Montgomery, was born on July 17, 1931, on a farm in Jewell County, Kan. She died on Dec. 31, 2015, at her home in Superior, Neb., at the age of 84 years, five months and 14 days.
Maxine attended Sweet Hill Country School and graduated from Montrose High School. On Nov. 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Frankie Dean Hall in San Pedro, Calif., and to this union was born four children.
During her lifetime she spent the majority of her younger years in Jewell County, Kan., until moving to Superior after her marriage, raising her family. On Nov. 2, 2008, she was baptized at the Superior Church of Christ by Pastor Jim Stark. She was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary, serving as local and state president, and was also a member of the Brodstone Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, camping, craft work and attending local auctions. She was proud of being the head cook for the Superior school system while they still served "real food." Her pies and cinnamon rolls were well known throughout the community. She was a clerk for the Montgomery and Hall auction services.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Phyllis Doyle, and two brothers, Richard (Slim) and Marvin (Andy) Montgomery.
She is survived by her husband, Dean, her children, Edmon Hall and wife, Paula, of Panama, Neb., Debra Harris of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Jacqueline Albertson and husband, Rick, of Republic, Kan., and Sandra Nelson and husband, Kendall, of Formoso, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Maranda Bradfield, Laura Harris, Jill Hall, Joshua Hall, Tisha Johnston and husband, Perry, Jared Nelson and wife, Tricia, and Jason Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Paden Johnston and Isaac Nelson; sisters-in-law, Jeanice Montgomery of Guide Rock, Neb., Bernice Montgomery of Superior, Neb., and brother-in-law, Joe Doyle, of Superior, Neb.; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Neb., with Pastor Jim Stark officiating.
Music was "In The Garden" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain," sung by Maranda Bradfield and Laura Harris. A postlude song, "The Gambler," by Kenny Rogers was played. Carlita Price was organist.
Visitation was held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2015, from 9 a,m, to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Maranda Bradfield, Tisha Johnston, Joshua Hall, Jason Nelson, Jared Nelson, Laura Harris and Jill Hall.
Inurnment was in the Rosemound cemetery near Hardy, Neb.
Memorials are suggested to go to the Superior Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary.

Anna Kay Jarman
The funeral for Anna K. "Kay" Jarman, 83, of Wahoo will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
She died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.
Anna "Kay" Watts was born July 20, 1920, in Pisgah, Iowa. She married Wayne W. Jarman on June 29, 1939, in Hiawatha, Kan. The couple lived in Council Bluffs until 1951 when they moved to South Dakota for two years. They then moved to Cedar Bluffs in 1953 until moving to Dodge City and Wichita in 1965. She was a licensed practical nurse and was employed at Howards Home in Dodge City. They returned to Cedar Bluffs in 1971, moved to Blair in 1975 and then to Wahoo in 1986. She worked with youth at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Bluffs. She moved to Arbor Manor in Fremont in June 2003 and to Good Samaritan Center in Scribner on July 31, 2003. Her spouse preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2003.
Survivors include: a daughter-in-law, Lucille Jarman of Cedar Bluffs; two grandchildren, Scott Jarman and fiancee, Michelle Johnson of Cedar Bluffs, and Michelle (Mrs. Terry) Gurciullo of Maxwell; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Paige, Alex and Tate Gurciullo and Taylor, Justin and Ashley Johnson.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Watts; a son, Leonard; a daughter, Heather; two brothers, Jesse and John Watts and a sister, Harriet.
The Rev. Don Botic will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 2-3 p.m. Visitation continues from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Neolin Taylor
Neolin Drexel Taylor, 85, of Topeka, Kan., died on Dec. 28, 2015.
Neolin was born on Oct. 5, 1930, in Woodston, Kan., the son of Lewis and Estella Taylor. He married Opal Conn on July 30, 1950, and they spent 65 happy years together. He is survived by his wife and four children: Verna (Gary) Napier, Topeka; Drusilla (Dan) Emmot, Beloit; Bruce (Pam) Taylor, Gardner; Trudi (Rick) Lee, Big Pine, Calif.
Neolin's passion in life was his ministry at the First Baptist Church in Mankato for 13 years following retirement. Although he was an only child, his family surpassed expectations, giving him 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom had a special place in his heart.
The family greeted friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Mankato with services at 10:30. Burial followed at Mount Hope cemetery, Mankato.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 625 East South Street, Mankato, Kan., 66956.

Lois Woods
Lois Maxine (Luckey) Woods was born on the family farm south of Glen Elder, Kan., on April 12, 1927. She was the eighth of 10 children born to Weldon Wilbur and Florence Pleasant (Deeds) Luckey. She died on Dec. 28, 2015.
Lois attended Antelope grade school, Glen Elder. She had her first job as a sophomore in high school, doing housework for a woman from 5 a.m. to midnight with no breaks, seven days a week. As a junior and senior in high school, Lois worked so that she could stay in Glen Elder and graduate with her class in 1944. She had fond memories of working for Mrs. Frank (Ethyl) Humes. Lois also worked for Ethel's daughter, Jeanette, and husband, Wilson Neff, at Neff's Grocery Store after school and Saturdays 8 a.m. to midnight.
After graduation, Lois moved to Salina to attend Brown Mackie School of Business. She worked in the office as well as at People's Cafeteria to put herself through school. In the spring of 1945, she was recruited by Production Credit Corp., Beloit, to become their secretary. That fall she went to work for the Beloit Farm Bureau Office. She then went to work for the Mitchell County Extension Office.
Lois met Rex Woods in the spring of 1947, and they were married Sept. 7, 1947, in Beloit. Since Rex was attending the University of Kansas, they made their home in Lawrence. Lois put Rex through school by working as the only secretary for three lawyers. One was a former Kansas attorney general, one a Lawrence city attorney and member of the Kansas House of Representatives, and one was a criminal lawyer and state senator.
In 1950, she and Rex moved to Salina where Lois was a secretary for a lawyer until the day before her son, Rod, was born. She typed at home for the next five years. After her youngest child went to kindergarten, she went back to work. She worked for Rex until the 1970s.
After she and Rex got a divorce, Lois became the receptionist at Kansas Technical Institute and worked there through the transition to K-State-Salina. She worked there until her retirement.
Lois liked playing bridge and played into her 80s. She believed she stayed healthy because of her daily trips to the YWCA at 6:30 in the morning to do aquacize. Maintaining her home and yard and doing her church's newsletter were her favorite pastimes.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Lawrence and Noel; sisters, Blanche, Medora, Nola and Bernice; and daughter, Pam Nowak.
She is survived by her son, Rod, and wife, Sue Woods, Belleville; daughter, Terri, and husband, Steve Melby, Mankato; seven grandchildren, Christina Nowak, Kelle, and husband, Bob Hull, Bethany and husband, Clay Cass, Ericka and husband, Clint Berry, Aaron Melby, Ryan Woods, and Hillary Woods; three great-grandchildren, Jace, Torah and Tyler Hull; brothers, Francis and Weldon; many, many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral for Lois Woods was held Saturday, Jan. 1, 2016, at 2 p.m. from the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kan. Pastor Dennis Beckmann officiated. Pat Grout was the pianist. Pallbearers were Ryan Woods, Bob Hull, Clay Cass, Clint Berry, Dean Sandlin, Mitch Morgan and Jon Weisbecker. Honorary pallbearers were David Nowak, Chrissy Nowak, Kelle Hull, Bethany Cass, Ericka Berry, Aaron Melby, Hillary Woods and Rob Morgan. Interment was in High Prairie cemetery, Glen Elder, Kan. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at the Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The family requests that memorials go to Lois Woods Memorial Fund. Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com. Melby Mortuary, Mankato was in charge of arrangements.

Ella Marie Madison
Ella Marie Madison, 92, the daughter of Chris and Dagmar (Feldt) Tordrup, was born Jan. 29, 1923, near Hardy, Neb., the fifth of seven children. She died Dec. 19, 2015, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland, Ore.
She graduated from Superior High School in 1940. In 1947 at Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, she married Richard Madison. Three children blessed this marriage.
She was a homemaker and also volunteered for more than 25 years at Oregon Health.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Andrew, Carl, August and Gilbert; one sister, Ina Fairless; and her husband, Richard, in 2008.
Survivors include her children. Lewis of Bremerton, Wash., Lynette of Sherwood, Ore., and James of Atchison, Kan.; a sister, Margaret Hanson of Sheridan, Wyo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives; and friends.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Evergreen cemetery in Superior, Neb., with Pastor Breen Marie Sipes officiating.
Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to go to the American Cancer Society.

Rosemary Doxon
Rosemary Doxon, 95, died last Monday at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit. She was born April 5, 1920, to John Edward and Grace Virginia Woodard McKelvey in Kansas City.
Rosemary and her family moved to a farm in the Miltonvale community when she was young. She graduated from Clay Center High School. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, with her sister, Ruth Phillips, and worked in a factory making parts for the military. They later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she attended nursing school. Following graduation, she worked in obstetrics at the Miami Valley Hospital for a while and then returned to Beloit and lived in the Nurses' Home at the Beloit Community Hospital.
July 6, 1949, she married Harold Conley, and during the 1950s she served as a registered nurse at the Beloit Community Hospital. They moved in 1959 to Phillipsburg and then Boulder, Colo., where she continued her nursing career.
Harold died in 1964 and she returned to Beloit and served as the school nurse. When the nursing program at the North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School began, Rosemary taught the first LPN course and continued teaching until marrying Lyle Doxon in 1971 in Formoso. During their married years, she practiced her nursing career at the Jewell County Hospital in Mankato. She retired in January 1985 and Lyle died in 1986. She lived in Jewell until moving to Beloit.
Besides her career as a registered nurse, Rosemary genuinely lived her faith and was a devout member of First Presbyterian Church in Beloit. Rosemary had great knowledge of the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, sisters, Juanita Bohning, Ruth Phillips and Bell Gruver; one brother, Edward McKelvey, and two infant siblings, Geraldine and Newton McKelvey.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including Darrell and Shirley Conley who have served as her caretaker.
Her funeral was Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit, who was intrusted with the arrangements. Pastor Deb Hadachek lead the services. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery, Beloit.
