Conel Buscher
Conel "Joe" Buscher, 60, Superior, formerly of Grand Island, died last Wednesday at CHI Health St. Francis, Grand Island.
A private family service will be at All Faiths Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will be at Parkview cemetery in Hastings.
Mr. Buscher was born Oct. 14, 1955, at Hastings, the son of James and Delores (Fischer) Buscher.
Survivors include his children, Jimmy Buscher, Lisa Carpenter, Ben Buscher and Micah Buscher; his brothers and sisters, Cody Buscher, Kerry Jones, Kelsey Scoggins, Dana Jones and Torrey Jones and his friend, Brenda Hoskins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wesley.
Joe was raised in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Northwest High School in 1973. He attended Kearney State College.
He worked as a chef for various restaurants and owned Micky Finns Sports Bar and Grill in Grand Island. Some of his enjoyments included Husker football, Nebraska High School wrestling and Husker wrestling.
While living in Superior, he had helped with food preparation for events at the Elks Lodge, VFW and Vestey Center; Lighthouse Nazarene Church and Webber Methodist Church

Lois Winterbottom
Lois Winterbottom, 90, died Jan. 28.
Lois was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Jewell county to James Augustus and Hazel Rhodes.
She worked as a secretary for McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) for 44 years.
She moved to Leisure World from Long Beach in 1983, where she maintained a lifelong passion for gardening, travel, having fun and playing games, especially cards and bingo.
Lois was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Mallonee and Robert Winterbottom.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Yvonne Mallonee.
Burial well be in Hardy.

Jean Zmudka
Jean Disch Butler Zmudka, 82, of LaSalle, Ill., died Feb. 29, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru, Ill.
He funeral was held Friday, at St. Hyacinth Church LaSalle, Ill., with the Rev. Carlson officiating. Burial was in the St. Hyacinth cemetery, LaSalle, Ill.
Jean was born July 16, 1933, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Raymond and Hazel (McLaughlin) Disch Butler. She married Joseph Zmudka on July 2, 1954. Two children were born to this union, Thomas Zmudka and Jolene Zmudka Behrends.
She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church and Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary. She worked at J.C. Penny as a sales clerk for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, of LaSalle, Ill.; a brother, James and his wife, Ferne Butler; and a sister, Betty Butler, all of Superior; a grandson, Mathew Zmudka of LaSalle; and a granddaughter, Amber Behrends Fitzpatrick of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Hazel McLaughlin Butler; a son, Thomas Zmudka; a daughter, Jolene Zmudka Behrends; brothers, Richard Butler and Robert Butler; and a sister, Dr. Judith Butler.

Jay Burton
Jay . E. Burton, 84, died Sunday at the Blue Valley Care Home at Hebron, Neb.
He was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Hershey. He attended grade schools in several small towns in Nebraska and graduated from Hardy High School. Jay attended Fairbury Jr. College and later in life, Colorado State University, in Fort Collins, Colo. He joined the Marines in 1951 and served in Korea. He was discharged from the service in 1954.
Jay then took a job in Geneva as a television repair man and later, opened his own shop. He met his wife, Loretta, in Geneva. They were married in 1956.
Jay and Loretta had two sons, Michael Burton of Peyton, Colo., and Timothy Burton, a major in the Army, now serving in Maryland. He was blessed with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jay liked to travel and his work took him all over. Jay moved with his wife to Colorado in 1962 where he worked for a time for Colorado State University in research.
He started his own aircraft radio business in Ft. Collins. His business was bought by Sea Air Airlines in Anchorage, Ak., in 1984 and he was moved by Sea Air. He worked for Sea Air until they closed. He then worked for Raytheon on Amchitha, an island in the Aleutians for four years. He was working for the Federal Aviation Administration as an avionics inspector where he retired in 2004 and moved to Nelson. In retirement, Jay chose to remodel an old house, having learned the trade from his father.
Jay was a member of Mensa since 1963, a member of the United Church of Christ in Nelson, a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
There will be a celebration of Jay's life at a later date and a memorial service will be held.

Ronnie Russell
Ronald Samuel Russell, 73, died March 3 at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, where he had resided since May 2000. He was born to Henry S. and Gertrude Hancock Russell Oct. 20, 1942, in his grandparents' home at Randall.
Ronnie, as he was known, and his family lived in Randall until he was five years old and then moved to Mankato when his father accepted a job with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Ronnie attended school in Mankato and at the age of 15 illness hit him. Much time was in the KU Medical Center running tests. It was found he had a crippling muscle disorder, with no known cure.
This didn't stop Ronnie from enjoying life. He used his bicycle for transportation to make trips around Mankato visiting with friends. It was an effort for him, but he never complained and always had a smile for those he met. Much time was passed at the barbershop visiting with the guys. After his mother died, Ronnie and his brother, Roger, took up house keeping until he was admitted to Hilltop.
Times were special for Ronnie, as he especially liked visiting with his grandparents and family in Randall. His love was riding his bicycle, watching ball games (especially KU basketball), listening to music, and in the summer being in the wheat field watching the combines run. Ronnie liked his candy and his favorite was peanut butter cups, although he wouldn't turn down cupcakes. His favorite drink was Dr. Pepper.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
He is survived by his aunt, Opal Brandon, Resident Care Center, Beloit; cousin, Thelma Shelton, Jewell; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral was held Monday at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit. Cremation was chosen. A private family memorial will take place at a later date. Schoen Funeral Home and Monuments, Beloit, is handling arrangements.

Donald St. John
Donald Eugene St. John, 71, Salina, Kan., formerly of Jewell, Kan., died March 6, 2016, at Salina Regional Health Center. Don was born March 13, 1944. He married Jane Marie Henningsen on Aug. 26, 1967. To this union was born two daughters, Maria Ann and Gabrielle Marie.
Don owned a service station, worked in construction, welding and packing plants.
Survivors include: wife of 48 years, Jane; daughter, Maria, and husband Danny, Salina; three grandchildren, Dameon and wife, T.C., Christopher, Courtney and husband, Steven; two great-grandchildren, Camryn and Skylee; three brothers and three sisters; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Gabrielle; parents, and three brothers.
A funeral will be held in Jewell, Kan., at Kleppinger Funeral Home, 409 Broadway, on March 9, 2016, at 10 a.m. with burial in Wallace cemetery.
A coffee gathering will be held at the Club House of South Winds in Salina, Kan., March 9, at 6 p.m. for all who wish to come.

Rayoma Sykes
Rayoma Deloris (Lowery) Sykes, died on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the age of 96 years, in Geneva at Heritage Crossings Nursing Home.
Rayoma was born on April 9, 1919, during a blizzard to Mona and Virgil Lowery on a farm east of Oak, Neb. She attended Sunshine Valley School and Oak Elementary School until she entered High School in Davenport, Neb. She graduated from Davenport High in 1938.
Upon graduation, she attended Peru State College during the summer of 1938. The following fall Rayoma began a teaching career in a rural school near Deshler. She also taught at Blue Valley School near Oak, Neb., and in Oak Elementary. Since she loved to dance, Rayoma met Arthur Sykes at a dance in Oak and after a short courtship, married him on June 28, 1942. Within a month, Art was drafted into the service during World War II and she lived a short time with him in Georgia and Colorado before returning to live in Oak, Neb. Arthur and Rayoma were married for 67 years.
The couple first lived in Oak with their daughter, Jeanette, and then moved to a farm a mile north of Oak where they farmed for a number of years. In the late 1940s they moved to their farmstead near Davenport where they farmed for nearly 40 years. Upon retiring, they built a new home in Davenport and lived there until 2008 when they moved to Hebron where they resided at Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living Center until Arthur's death in 2010. In May of 2011, Rayoma moved to Heritage Crossing Nursing Home and lived there until her recent death.
Rayoma devoted her life to being a farmer's wife and more importantly a mother. Her dedication to her children was her main priority. Family always came first.
She always provided love and devotion even after they left home to begin their careers. She was well known for her cooking, especially her pies.
Rayoma was active in Davenport's Woman's Club, Christ Lutheran Church Women's Organization, was president of the PTA and band mothers, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 70 years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and served on many committees over the years. Rayoma loved to dance, fish, camp, play cards and visit with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. She was instrumental in the planning and building of Davenport's Community Center.
For many years, she baked and decorated beautiful wedding, birthday and anniversary cakes for friends and relatives. She also loved to quilt, cross stitch and crochet.
Rayoma was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; infant daughter, Jeanette; her parents, Mona and Virgil Lowery; sisters, Wanda Biltoft and Doris Athenhan-Degner; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son, Dean, his wife, Theresa, of Kimberling City, Mo., their children, Patrick of San Francisco, Calif., Becky, her husband, Justin Conley, of Omaha, Neb., and great-grandchildren, Lucy, Norah and Miles Conley. She also is survived by her son, Robert, of Crete, Neb., and a brother, Wendell Lowery, and his wife Carol, of Davenport, Neb. Also surviving are many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. from the Christs Lutheran Church in Davenport, Neb., with The Rev. Kristen Van Stee officiating.
Music was congregational hymns, "In the Garden," "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."
Visitation was held on March 11, 2016, from 2 to 5 p.m.
Pallbearers were Justin Conley, Patrick Sykes, Keith Fisher, Tim Lowery, Colton Lowery and James Keim. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Lowery, Joe Keim, Alvin McCartney, Gilbert Poppe, Phil Sykes and Larry Biltoft.
Interment was in the Davenport City cemetery at Davenport, Neb.
Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church.
Condolences may be sent to Megrue-Price Funeral Home, 750 N. Commercial, Superior, Neb., 68978.

Gary Roe
Gary Johnston Roe, the son of Glen and Verla (Vale) Roe, was born Feb. 5, 1940, in Superior, Neb. He died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his home in Superior, at the age of 76 years and 27 days.
Gary attended and grduated from Superior High School where he especially enjoyed participating in the FFA program. After his high school graduation he attended Burlington Railroad Telegraph School, and earned his associate degree in computer science from Central Community College. He was a 45-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Superior.
Gary enlisted in the United States Army on Nov. 1, 1961, at Omaha, Neb., and was honorably discharged on Oct. 30, 1964, earning the good conduct medal, and expert rifle and the carbine marksman medal. He was a member of the local VFW and American Legion organizations.
Gary was united in marriage to Velda Lee on Dec. 27, 1961, at Weeping Water, Neb. To this union three children were born. He was employed at New Holland, Mid-America Dairymen and Reinke Manufacturing.
Gary liked working on automobiles, going fishing and he especially enjoyed camping with his family, whom he always put first in his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregg, on Dec. 2, 2013; and an infant son, Grant.
He is survived by his wife, Velda, of Superior, Neb.; daughter, Joni Anderson and her husband, John, of Superior, Neb.; three grandchildren, Garett Roe of Hastings, Neb.; Kara Roe of Superior, Neb., and Breanna Roe of North Platte, Nebr.; one great-grandson, Jace Roe, of North Platte, Neb.; a brother, Roger Roe, and his wife, Carol, of Superior, Neb.; a sister, Carol Ann Garman, and her husband, Terry, of Scandia, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral with full military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Dorothy Smith officiating.
Recorded music will be "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," "Class Of 57," "Little Brown Church," and "Live Like You are Dying."
Book signing will be today (Thursday and Friday) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to go to the family. Condolences may be sent to Megrue-Price Funeral Home, 750 N. Commercial, Superior, Neb. 68978.
