Arthur Emanuel
The funeral for Arthur G. Emanuel, 56, of Dodge will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge.
He died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
He was born March 26, 1947, in Dodge. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Grade School in Dodge and was a 1965 graduate of Dodge High School. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. College in Wahoo. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1967 and served until 1975. During this time, he was stationed at Mount Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha and spent a year in Osan, Korea. He was a veterinary technician and later a food inspector while in the service. He married Kathleen S. Finegan on Nov. 28, 1970, in North Bend. After marriage, they lived in Idaho, Omaha and then moved back to Dodge where they lived to the present time. He farmed and was a carpenter. He did finish work and custom crafted furniture.
He was current vice president of the Dodge School Board, current chairman of the American Legion Baseball Committee, member of American Legion Post 122 of Dodge and of the Holy Name Society. He had served on the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Parish Council and St. Wenceslaus School Board. He was a past 4-H club leader, past baseball coach and was a member of the Dodge Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathi; three sons, David (and wife, Sarah) Emanuel of Wahoo, Michael Emanuel of Lincoln and Nicholas Emanuel of Dodge; a daughter, Katy Emanuel of Dodge; three brothers, Martin (and wife, Margie) Emanuel of Steens, Miss., John (and wife, Darlene) Emanuel of Pittsburgh and Allen (and wife, Luanne) Emanuel of Fort Calhoun; five sisters, Esther (Mrs. Robert) Maloney of Seattle, Eileen Lanners of Denver, Ruth (Mrs. Larry) Cada of Lincoln, Amy (Mrs. William) Gaylor of Seaside, Calif., and Doris Christensen of Omaha; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
The Rev. Dennis DeGuzman will officiate Wednesdays service. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the church with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. A prayer service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Humlicek Funeral Home in Dodge. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Catholic cemetery in rural Dodge with military rites by Dodge American Legion Post 122.

Harold Tweedy
The funeral for Harold W. Tweedy, 71, of Leshara will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Mead.
He died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at his home.
Tweedy was born in Center. He attended country schools near Center. He went to work at an early age to support the family when his father became ill. He married Arbus "June" Pritchett on May 5, 1952, in Vermillion, S.D. In 1958, he broke his neck in a car accident and was not expected to walk again, but he did and went back to work. He lived in the Bristlow area before moving to Saunders County in 1960. He was a longtime manager of Brown & Brown Alfalfa Mills at Leshara until retiring in 1992.
Survivors include: three sons, Calvin (and wife, Lori) Tweedy of Emerson, Melvin (and wife, Tammy) Tweedy of Concorde and Fred Tweedy of Leshara; two daughters, Susan (Mrs. Steve) Lawson of Washington, Iowa, and Joan (Mrs. Bill) Griff of Leshara; three sisters, Darlene (Mrs. Marvin) LaCroix of Yankton, S.D., Delores LaCroix of Crofton and Sharon (Mrs. Lawrence) Kaiser of Ceresco; two brothers, Kenneth Tweedy of Wahoo and Richard (and wife, Norma) Tweedy of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.
The Rev. Lyle Person will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Leshara.

Norman Gustafson
Norman D. Gustafson, 89, of Mead died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1914. He graduated from Mead High School and the University of Nebraska. He was a vocational agriculture instructor and farmed north of Mead for more than 40 years. He was active in his community, serving in leadership in roles on various boards including those of Mead Covenant Church, the board of education of the Mead School, the Farmers Co-Op board, the Saunders County Soil Conservation Service, Covenant Cedars Board, Covenant Home Board and Morningside cemetery Board. During his life, he traveled to five continents, 46 states and more than 50 countries.
He married Myrtle Rand, who died in 1962, and Veo Teel who also preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 2002.
Survivors include: a son, Mark (and wife, Diane) Gustafson of Mead; two stepsons, Dayton (and wife, Marilyn) House of Scottsdale, Ariz. and R. Gene (and wife, Rhonwyn) House of San Francisco; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Paul) Spjut of Westminster, Colo. and Gay (Mrs. David) Brown of Carmel Valley, Calif.; two sisters, June Turner of Carmel, Calif. and EuJane Johnson of Pebble Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Covenant Church with the Rev. Lyle Person officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Spjut. The service will be preceded by burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside cemetery in Mead. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home in Wahoo.
Memorials have been established to Evangelical Covenant Church of Mead or Community Service Scholarship, Mead Educational Foundation in care of Bank of Mead.

Shirley Meese
Shirley V. Meese, 79, of Wahoo died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Lincoln.
Shirley Rezac was born March 22, 1924.
Survivors include: two daughters, Laurie (Mrs. Ken) Sieg of Lincoln and Kathy (Mrs. Mike) Stolarcyk of Whitney Point, N.Y.; two sons, John Meese of Brecksville, Ohio and Jim (and wife, Vickie) Meese of Exira, Iowa; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bernice and Ralph Meese Jr. of Wahoo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church in Wahoo. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home in Wahoo with family present from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Sunrise cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the church.

Rosie Tomek
Rosie Tomek, 86, of Wahoo, formerly of Prague, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Haven House in Wahoo.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Donna Lorenz
The funeral for Donna Lorenz, 71, of Fremont, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of The Nazarene in Fremont.
She died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
She was born March 10, 1932, in Council Bluffs. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. She worked as an executive secretary for Carl A. Anderson after high school. She then owned and cooked at the Longbranch in Leshara for 18 years. She also ran Grove Motel and cooked at Sportsmans Bar in Venice. Donna, or "Captain Jelly Bean" as some would call her, was a hard worker and was very kind hearted to everyone. She would hire local children from Leshara to help at the restaurant and would then take them to Worlds of Fun. She had lived in Valley and Leshara before moving to Fremont, where she had lived for the past 12 years.
Survivors include: two daughters, JoNel (Mrs. Les) Oerman of Herman, Tammy Biskeborn of Fremont; a son, Kevin Babcock of Fremont; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
The Rev. Tom Shaw will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Valley. Family will receive friends between noon and 2 p.m.
Memorials may be made out to the church.

Edward Bartek
Edward J. "Ed" Bartek, 82, of Wahoo died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo.
Bartek was born Oct. 25, 1920, in rural Weston. He attended elementary school in the rural Weston area. He married Marie A. Fiedler on Sept. 24, 1947, in Weston. He farmed in the Weston and Wahoo areas most of his life. He was a sales representative for Standard Feed/Chemical Company in Omaha from 1980-2000. He had lived in Weston before moving to the Saunders House in Wahoo in 2000. His wife preceded him in death April 10, 1981.
He was a past member of St. John Church Choir in Weston and Saunders County Czech Singers.
Survivors include: five sons, Lee Bartek, Doug (and wife, Joni) Bartek, Ron (and wife, Cindy) Bartek, and Kevin Bartek, all of Wahoo, and Greg Bartek of Omaha; six daughters, Janette Peetz, LuAnn Bartek and Mary Beth Bartek, all of Omaha, Laurie Bartek of Mesa, Ariz., Donna Bartek of Gardiner, Mont., and Chris Bartek of Stamford, Conn.; two sisters, Rose Benes of Lincoln and Lorraine Kremlacek of Prague; a brother, Milo (and wife, Rosemary) Bartek of Ithaca; two sisters-in-law, Delores Bartek of Weston and Dr. Jean Bartek of Omaha; and three grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with the Rev. Rudy Oborny officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and will continue after 6 p.m. at the church and until 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. John cemetery in Weston.
A memorial has been established to the Region V Foundation/Wahoo Program.

Effie Kahler
Effie V. Kahler, 83, of West Point died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Plainview Manor in Plainview.
Effie Marlow was born Dec. 23, 1919, at Bonilla, S.D. She grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1938. She married Harold Kahler on April 16, 1943. While her spouse served in the military, she worked at clerical service jobs at Victorville, Calf., Fort Sumner, N.M. and Chanute Field, Ill. Air Force bases. After his discharge, they made their home in Norfolk where she was employed in the Office of Price Control. They then farmed at Stanton before moving to West Point in 1951. In 1960, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. W.W. Nyquist in West Point before working as clerk of the Cuming County Court in West Point in 1961. In 1973, she was appointed associate county judge. She retired in 1985. She moved to Plainview Manor in 1997.
She was a member of Trinity Church, Evening Guild, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Plum Creek and Nebraska State Quilters guilds and West Point Womens Clubs.
Survivors include: her husband, Harold of West Point; two daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. Dennis) Vossberg of Plainview and Bonnie Kahler of Kearney; a daughter-in-law, Rose Kahler of Omaha; four sisters, Genevieve Pribyl of Woolsey, S.D., Eva Seda and Laura Filsinger, both of Norfolk, and Vera Hubel of Chambers; and four grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Church in West Point with the Rev. J.C. Browne officiating. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point and one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary rites will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in West Point.

Nate Pullen
Nate C. Pullen, 13, of Omaha, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in a motor vehicle accident, 11 miles east of Sterling, Colo.
He was born Feb. 26, 1990, in York. He attended Elkhorn Middle School.
Survivors include: his parents, Ed and Julie Pullen of Omaha; a brother, Cody; half brothers, Sean Burnham and Matt Pullen; a half sister, Megan Pullen; grandparents, Gail Nordlund and Dr. Harold and Judi Nordlund, all of York, Virginia Pullen of Fremont, Bob and Marge Pullen of Scribner; a great-grandmother, Esther Frandsen of York.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Presbyterian Church, 333 S. 204th St., Elkhorn with the Rev. Dwight T. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the church. A graveside service will start at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood cemetery in York.
A memorial has been established to the Nate Pullen Memorial Fund.
Heafey- Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler Mortuaries, West Center Chapel, in Omaha is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Benes
Lillian M. (Mrs. Anton) Benes, 92, of Wahoo died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery in Wahoo.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Dolores Clausen
Dolores A. Clausen, 90, of West Point died Friday, April 18, 2003, at West Point Living Center.
Arrangements are pending at Stalp Funeral Home.

Donald Maher
Donald W. Maher, 85, of Hooper died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Utica Community Care Center in Utica.
Arrangements are pending at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
