Jeannette Emanuel
The funeral for Jeannette H. Emanuel, 94, of North Bend will be 10 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in North Bend.
She died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Jeannette Krenzer was born June 2, 1909, in North Bend. She lived most of her life in the North Bend area. At the age of 17, she taught school at Lakeside in the Sandhills, then taught in rural Dodge County schools as well as at Morse Bluff and Rogers. She attended Wayne State College and received her degree in elementary and secondary education from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont in 1950.
She married Rudolph Schroedter on Nov. 16, 1935. He died May 5, 1940. She married Bernard Emanuel on Dec. 2, 1955, in Fremont. He died Feb. 2, 1990.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women at North Bend. She was active at the North Bend Senior Center and in several card clubs. She did volunteer work at Birchwood Manor in North Bend and for the blood mobile.
Survivors include: a son, Bill (and wife, Barb) Schroedter of West Point; a daughter, Dora Kay (Mrs. Larry) Aldrich of Estherville, Iowa; a stepson, Kenneth Emanuel of Reno, Nev.; four stepdaughters, Bernice DeVore and Celine (Mrs. Dick) Papa, both of Fremont, Pat (Mrs. Leonard) Kavan of Morse Bluff and Rita (Mrs. Joe) Woita of North Bend; a brother, Charles Krenzer of Fremont; 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Don Botic will officiate Saturdays service. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery in North Bend.
Memorials have been established to United Presbyterian Church in North Bend and North Bend Senior Center.

Robert Lackey
Robert D. Lackey, 76, of Fremont died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Lackey was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Douglas. He grew up and attended schools in Elwood and Waverly, and graduated from high school in Ashland. He moved to Lincoln in 1945 and returned to Ashland in 1946. He moved to Fremont in 1949. He was a depot clerk at the Burlington Northern Railroad until retiring in 1988.
He married Donna L. Thiessen on Jan. 21, 1946.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks.
Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Michael (and wife, Debbie) Lackey, Bruce (and wife, Kathy) Lackey and Scott (and wife, Jill) Lackey, all of Fremont; a daughter, Sandi (Mrs. Larry) Larsen of Fremont; a brother, Wayne Lackey of LaFayette, Ind.; a sister, Darlene (Mrs. Charles) Olsen of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and two sisters.
The graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial cemetery in Fremont with the Rev. Mark Grorud of First Lutheran Church in Fremont officiating. There is no visitation.
Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Barry
The funeral for Hazel A. Barry, 94, of Fremont will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.
She died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Hazel Root was born April 1, 1909, in Fremont. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1926 and began taking classes toward her teaching certificate at Midland College. Her first year of teaching was spent teaching grades K-8 in a one room school at Harrison in 1927, then at District 35 in Valley from 1928-30. She taught at District 51 in Valley from 1931-35. She married Charles Barry in 1936, and they farmed south of Fremont. In 1955, she began taking college classes at night and during summer sessions for her teaching certification. She received a bachelor of science in education in 1964 from Midland. From 1955-71, she taught grades K-8 at District 65 in Colon and from 1972-75 she taught grades K-4 at District 119 in Fremont. She taught a total of 30 years in rural schools. After retiring in 1976, she was active in volunteer work until becoming ill in March 2003. Her spouse preceded her in death in December 1965.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, evening Business and Professional Women, Fremont First Garden Club, Prairie Piecemakers and Dodge County Historical Society. She worked in the auxiliary at Fremont Area Medical Center and guided tours at May Museum. She was a 75-year member of First Untied Methodist Church and was active in Builders Class, Mary Circle and United Methodist Women, as well as a quilting group, crafts and volunteering twice weekly at Children First Preschool. She also attended a weekly morning Bible Study at First Lutheran Church and took part in a Scrabble club.
Survivors include: a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Pat) Keim of Helena, Mont.; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont and one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to First Untied Methodist Church.

Leigh Hoetfelker
The memorial Mass for Leigh H. Hoetfelker, 62, of Hooper will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont, 3400 E. 16th St.
He died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Hoetfelker was born Feb. 28, 1941, in West Point. He grew up at Snyder and West Point and was a 1959 graduate of West Point High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Aug. 27, 1959, to Aug. 26, 1963. He moved to Fremont in 1963 and was employed at the former Fremont Office Equipment, now Officenet, in the service department, then became manager of the service department. He was manager of the company in 1980 and in 1983 became president of the company. He moved to Hooper in 1977 and also farmed his entire life in the Hooper area.
He married Connie Wendt on Aug. 24, 1963, in West Point.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at Hooper and was past president of the church council. He was in various community organizations throughout the years. He loved his grandkids, and hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Russ Hoetfelker of Fremont and Gregg (and wife, Sheri) Hoetfelker of Hooper; four sisters, Camilla (Mrs. Denis) Westermann of West Point, Elmira Merrill of Wahoo, Marlene (Mrs. Charles) Parrish of Las Vegas and Oneva (Mrs. Wendy) Lummel of Bridgeport; a sister-in-law, Jolene Coday of Fremont; a brother-in-law, Doug (and wife, Logene) Wendt of Sheridan, Wyo.; and three grandchildren, Dylan, Derek and Riley Hoetfelker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Gertrude (Lennemann) Hoetfelker.
The Rev. Mike Eckley will officiate Fridays service. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. There is no visitation. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in Fremont.

Ernest Westergaard
Ernest A. Westergaard, 95, of Kent, Wash., died Sept. 28, 2003, in Olympia, Wash.
Westergaard was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Denmark. He married Opal Hansen on Feb. 2, 1938. He served in the U.S. Army following World War I. He resided in Arlington from 1946-69 before moving to Kent, Wash. He was a businessman, selling many things including wholesale eggs and furniture, and later worked as a carpenter. He retired in 1976. His wife preceded him in death in 1987.
He was a past grand master mason.
Survivors include: two daughters, Erna J. Eley of Ocean Shores, Wash., and Donna B. Westergaard of Seattle; a sister, Vera Lehman of Rockford, Ill.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orum. There is no visitation. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent is in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Konsel
Vernon Konsel, 77, of Howells died Friday, June 18, 2004, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, NE.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells.
Visitation and rosary will be held on Sunday with times pending.
Svoboda Funeral Home of Schuyler is in charge of the arrangements.

Zita Prorok
Zita M. Prorok, 64, of Valley died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Zita Kuntz was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Beatrice. She lived in Beatrice and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and school until she was a sophomore in high school. At that time, her family moved to Genoa where she attended Genoa High School. She married Duane Prorok on Jan. 4, 1958, in Genoa. They lived in Columbus for nine years before moving to Valley when their youngest son was 2 weeks old (1966). She was a full-time mom and was active in school and church work. She also volunteered for city activities, such as taking care of the city sign, helping with the senior center lunch program for 10 years and helping her children with their paper routes. An avid tennis player, she was a captain of a senior group for 10 years. This team won many awards and traveled to many out-of-state tournaments. After her children were all out of school, she kept house for other people for 15 years, including priests in the Omaha area. She was active until being diagnosed with cancer in December 2001.
Survivors include: her husband; four sons, Gregory (and wife, Linda) Prorok of Gretna, Phillip Prorok of North Platte, Ronald (and wife, Missy) Prorok of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Patrick Prorok of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters, Christine (Mrs. Mark) Jensen of Muskego, Wis., and Vicki (Mrs. Doug) Heeren of LeMars, Iowa; three sisters, Dorothy Thies of Albion, Catherine Nelson of Springfield, Mo., and Barbrann Barnard of Beatrice; two brothers, Paul Kuntz of Beatrice and John Kuntz of Lincoln; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Valley with the Rev. Emmett Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today at the church with a rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Leshara.
Reichmuth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louis Mastera
Louis "Louie" Mastera, 77, of rural Ceresco died Oct. 17, 2003, in his home.
Louis was born Aug. 23, 1926, at the family farm in rural Ceresco. He attended elementary school at District 40 in rural Ceresco. He married Alice A. Gall on Sept. 28, 1968, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Lincoln. He was a life-long Ceresco area resident, and he worked as a farmer with grain and livestock operation. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Davey.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Dan (and wife, Nancy) Mastera of Ceresco; a daughter, Ann (Mrs. Charlie) Tvrdy of Ceresco; four brothers, Frank Jr. (and wife, Mildred) Mastera, Alfons (and wife, Bea) Mastera, George Mastera, all of David City, and Ed (and wife, Darlene) Mastera of Schuyler; three sisters, Helen Nelson of Tulsa, Okla., Frances Styskal of Wahoo, and Mary (Mrs. Ray) Richardson of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Davey with the Rev. Kenneth Hoesing officiating. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and will continue Monday one hour before Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary and St. Patrick cemetery in Davey. Memorials are in care of the family.

Edward Coday
The funeral for Edward D. "Ed" Coday, 78, of Morris, Okla., formerly of Wahoo, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Rebold Manor in Okmulgee, Okla.
Coday was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Atkinson. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Atkinson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He entered active duty March 21, 1944, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He served as an infantryman in the 337th Regiment of the 85th Division in Northern Appenines and Po Valley. He was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant on June 3, 1946, at Fort Leavenworth. He married Ardath L. Fry on June 14, 1942, in Atkinson. The couple lived in Atkinson and Chambers before moving to Wahoo in 1969. As a young man, he farmed and ranched in the Chambers area before moving into town where he started his first repair shop. He worked as a mechanic at the former Anderson Auto in Wahoo. He was employed by the former Farmers Union Co-op in Wahoo and also worked at the former Kisler Motors in Wahoo before starting his own business, Codays Repair in Wahoo in 1974, which he operated until his retirement in 1994.
He was a former member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 82, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502 and Wahoo Council 1833 Knights of Columbus. While living in Wahoo, he was an active member of the Neumann High School Athletics Booster Club.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Dan (and wife, Lynda) Coday of Omaha; a daughter, Jeri (Mrs. Bob) Klabenes of Okmulgee; a brother, Mike Coday of Norfolk; three sisters, Margaret Bonenberger of Gering, Clara Wolcott of Omaha and Roseanne Standage of Shenandoah; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, a brother and three sisters.
The Rev. Rudy Oborny will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery in Wahoo with military rites and presentation of the U.S. flag by American Legion Post 82 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502.
A memorial has been established to Bishop Neumann Central Catholic High School in Wahoo.
