Janice DeVries
The funeral for Janice DeVries, 72, of Mead, formerly of Fremont, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Arbor Manor Living Center in Fremont.
Janice Jones was born June 6, 1931, in Ainsworth. She grew up and graduated from high school in Ainsworth. She lived in Sidney from 1955 until moving to Meadow Grove in 1958. She then lived in Lexington for four years and at Mead from 1964 until moving to North Bend in 1965. She lived in Leshara for one year and then moved to Fremont in 1967. She worked at the former Jacks Cafe, Tommys Sinclair and Campbell Soup Co. She previously operated a bait shop on west Military Avenue and also had a day care in her home. She had been living with her daughter in Mead for the last two months.
She married Robert Hartgrave on Feb. 8, 1951. They later divorced. She married George E. "Bud" DeVries on Dec. 29, 1975, in Vermillion, S.D. He preceded her in death Jan. 20, 1999.
She was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Fremont.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Hartgrave (and Lynette Winters) of Mead and Jack Hartgrave (and Chrystal Hass) of Mead; six daughters, Roberta (Mrs. Dan) Havelka and Karen Greaser (and Ron Sladek), all of Mead, Teresa Hanneman, Debie Mumm and Linda (Mrs. Ed) Cordell, all of Fremont, and Anna Foster of Omaha; a sister, Lila Jean Hayford of Mead; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, her twin sister and a brother.
The Rev. Jane Denison of Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to Preferred Choice Hospice, 1104 S. 76th Ave., Suite A, Omaha, NE 68124.

Randy Ernst
The funeral for Randy Ernst, 52, of Omaha will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Schuyler.
He died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Ernst was born March 9, 1952, in Columbus. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Schuyler and was a 1970 graduate of Schuyler High School. He worked as a commercial heating and cooling technician. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam while in the U.S. Navy from 1970-74. He married Maribeth Duschanek on May 11, 1987, in Juarez, Mexico.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sheetmetal Workers 3.
Survivors include: his wife; his mother; a son, Matt (and wife, Cindy) Ernst of Columbus; a stepson, Bradley (and wife, Stephanie) Raymond of Brechenridge, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Amy (Mrs. Jesse) Cole of Ririe, Idaho and Julie Raymond of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Anita Ernst of Schuyler and Elaine (Mrs. Jim) Williams of Bellevue; a brother, Allen (and wife, Kak) Ernst of Schuyler; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
The Rev. William Mattfeld will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home South Chapel in Schuyler with the family present from 5-8 p.m. Visitation continues from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Schuyler cemetery with military honors given by McLeod Post 47 of the American Legion and Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W.
A memorial has been established to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Svoboda Funeral Home in Schuyler is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Havelka
The funeral for Joseph B. "Joe" Havelka, 84, of Wahoo will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Saunders County Community Hospital in Wahoo.
Havelka was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Zvole, Moravia (Czechoslovakia). He had been a resident of Wahoo since 1926 when he moved from Moravia as a child. He attended St. Wenceslaus Elementary School in Wahoo and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1937. During the early 1940s, he was employed as a maintenance worker at the Benedictine Sisters Convent and Academy in Lisle, Ill. He was owner and manager, along with his brother, Method "Matt" Havelka, of the Wahoo Hotel from 1945-60. He was a former employee of the maintenance department of Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo until retiring in 1984. In addition to his regular employment, he also did small household jobs for many elderly neighbors and friends. He often was consulted by genealogists to translate old documents and records that had been written in the Czech language when Saunders County was first settled.
He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
Survivors include a sister, Kamila Rothscheinova of Lednice, Czech Republic.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
The Rev. Rudy Oborny will officiate Saturdays service. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and continues one hour prior to service time at the church. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus cemetery in Wahoo.
A memorial has been established to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Wayne Jarman
The funeral for Wayne W. Jarman, 85, of Wahoo will be 10 a.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
He died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Arbor Manor Living Center in Fremont.
Jarman was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Nowlin, S.D. He was raised at Timber Lake, S.D., and graduated from high school there in 1935. He then attended Mankato Business College in Minnesota for two years. He married Anna Kay Watts on June 29, 1939, in Hiawatha, Kan.
After their marriage, the couple lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, until 1951, in South Dakota for two years and in Cedar Bluffs from 1958-65. They then lived in Dodge City and Wichita, Kan., then returned to Cedar Bluffs for a time, moving to Blair in 1975 and to Wahoo in 1986. He drove petroleum tank trucks for Farmers Union Co-op. He had resided at Arbor Manor since June.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Nov. 14, 1940, to Sept. 18, 1945, in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.
He was a member of Wahoo American Legion Post 82 and was a former member of the Cedar Bluffs American Legion. He was a member of Wahoo Masonic Lodge 59 AF & AM and was a former member of Fremont Masonic Lodge 15.
Survivors include: his wife, Anna; a brother, Wesely Jarman of Huron, S.D.; three sisters, Darlene (Mrs. John) Spilde of Aberdeen, S.D., Isla Hoffman of New Ulm, Minn., and Eunice "Judy" Sperlich of Mitchell, S.D.; daughter-in-law, Lucille Jarman of Cedar Bluffs; brother-in-law, Floyd Spilde of Aberdeen; two grandchildren, Scott Jarman (and fiancé, Michelle Johnson) and Michelle (Mrs. Terry) Gurciullo; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Paige, Alex and Tat Gurciullo and Taylor, Justin and Ashley Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Jessie (Martin) Jarman; a brother, Merideth Jarman; and a sister, Irene Spilde.
The Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate Mondays service. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic service at 4 p.m. conducted by Wahoo Masonic Lodge 59, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Masonic service is open to the public. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo with full military honors conducted by Wahoo American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts.

Eugene Fujan
The funeral for Eugene Fujan, 60, of Wahoo, formerly of rural Weston, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo.
He died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at his home.
Fujan was born Aug. 16, 1943, in rural Weston. He attended District 68 School in rural Saunders County and attended East Butler High School in Brainard. He was diagnosed with diabetes at age 12. He lived west of Weston until moving to Wahoo in 1996. He married Beverly Duffek Mach on Feb. 22, 1996, in Las Vegas. He was a farmer and had worked part time at Metromail in Lincoln. He also was an escort driver for George Niemann of Dwight while moving trailers. He had worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Saunders County and was employed at Great American Appetizers in Wahoo. He had been a supply clerk at Swift & Co. in Omaha for the past 5 1/2 years.
Survivors include: his wife; three stepsons, Jim Mach of Omaha, Brian Mach of Wahoo and Dan Mach of Prague; three stepdaughters, Sara Mach, Lori Mach and Tracy (Mrs. Tim) Gatewood, all of Wahoo; two brothers, Marvin (and wife, Mildred) Fujan and Jim (and wife, Margaret) Fujan, all of Wahoo; a sister, Elaine (Mrs. Leonard) Stepanek of Schuyler; and three stepgrandchildren.

Darlene Roumph
Darlene M. Roumph, 71, of Cedar Bluffs died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at her home.
Darlene McDonald was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Blair. She grew up in Blair and Kennard and was a 1949 graduate of Kennard High School. She married Donnie P. Roumph on Dec. 2, 1950, in Fremont. After her marriage, she lived in Fremont for two years and worked at the former F.W. Woolworth Co. store for a short time. She then moved to Cedar Bluffs. Her husband preceded her in death July 10, 1990. After the death of her husband, she worked at Arbor Manor in Fremont for 10 years in the housekeeping department.
Survivors include: a son, Scott (and wife, Julie) Roumph of Cedar Bluffs; three daughters, Cindy Dvorak of Fremont, Viki (Mrs. Garry) Johnson of Cedar Bluffs and Michelle (Mrs. Doug) Vyhlidal of North Bend; two brothers, Gordon (and wife, Sharon) McDonald of Omaha and William (and wife, Alice) McDonald of Fremont; a sister, Judy (Mrs. William) Goodman of Tracy, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Philip Nielsen of Sparks, Nev.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a sister, a brother, a son-in-law and twin grandsons.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs with the Rev. Ken Davidson of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Rev. Kent Freedman of Calvary Baptist Church in Wahoo officiating. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Cedar Bluffs with the family receiving friends from 1-3 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time at the church. A prayer service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials have been established to American Cancer Society and Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice Program.

Paul Launer
Paul "Pops" Launer, 75, of Grass Valley, Calif., died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, in Sacramento, Calif.
Launer was born July 19, 1928, in Fremont. He married Mary Rogers in 1993. He worked 38 1/2 years for the federal government. He worked part time at a baseball park.
He was president of Ponderosa Senior Bingo Club.
Survivors include: his wife; six stepdaughters, Ronna Brand of Las Vegas, Raelene Coleman of San Diego, Ronice Morgan of Maui, Peggy Andis of San Bernadino, Bonnie Wilks of Hysperia, Calif., and Vickie Baggett of Crescent City, Calif.; five stepsons, Rick Bundschuh of Kauai, Hawaii, Randi Bundschuh of Sunset Beach, Calif., Robert Rogers of Plymouth, Calif., Terry Rogers of Grass Valley and Jim Rogers of San Bernadino; two sisters, Marge Schlapfer of San Diego and Betty Walkenhorst of Reno, Nev.; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Dec. 29 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.
Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Henrietta Cerv
Henrietta "Curly" Cerv, 95, of Weston died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Weston. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a memorial service conducted by American Legion Post 308 Auxiliary, both at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in St. John cemetery in Weston.

Lillian Swoboda
Lillian Swoboda, 93, of Wahoo died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Saunders County Community Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Kenneth Schulzkump
Kenneth V. Schulzkump, 89, of West Point died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at West Point Living Center.
Arrangements are pending at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point.

Agnes Fiala
Agnes "Agie" Fiala of Wahoo died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Regional Health Center in Lincoln.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.
