Thomas Eschliman
The funeral for Thomas H. Eschliman, 86, of Wisner will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner
He died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1918, in Ericson to George C. and Nancy (Perry) Eschliman. He graduated from Scotia Public School in 1936. He farmed with an uncle prior to being employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps at Custer, S.D. On Jan. 30, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He served during the battles at the Aleutian Islands and had received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with One Bronze Battle Star, the American Defense Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and Three Overseas Service Bars. He was discharged on Oct. 7, 1945, and returned to the Wisner area working at the Wisner Dehy. He married to Betty B. Braun on Nov. 23, 1946, in West Point. He was employed by Merlin Anderson for many years, including helping at the Wisner Sale Barn. He retired in 1992.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5767 in Wisner. He had served as the district commander for the VFW from 1982-84 and had been honored as the honorary district chaplain in the early 1990s. He had also served on the Cuming County Veterans Service Committee for several years.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Russell (and wife, Betty Jo) Eschliman and Marvin (and wife, Linda) Eschliman, all of Wisner; a daughter, Joyce (Mrs. Leroy) Fischer of Fremont; three brothers, Cecil Eschliman of Wisner, George E. Eschliman of Omaha and Francis E. Eschliman of Twin Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Letha Dutcher of Greeley, Betty Zoucha of Stanton and JoAnna Hemmingsen of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, four brothers and a sister.
The Rev. Scott Evans will officiate Fridays service. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Wisner cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 5767 of Wisner.

Donna Gottschalk
Donna J. Gottschalk, 70, of Wahoo died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Wahoo.
She was born Oct. 17, 1934, in Manson, Iowa, to Edward and Pearl (Friesner) Gommels. She was a graduate of Manson High School. She married Bob Gottschalk on June 27, 1960, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
She was a member of American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502 Auxiliary, Saunders County Hospital Auxiliary, Joy Circle, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA) and Quilting Club of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: her husband; four sons, Craig (and wife, Kristen) of Colon, Kirk (and wife, Carrie) of Cook, Eric (and wife, Susie) and Kyle, all of Wahoo; a brother, Roy (and wife, Jo) Gommels of Mesa, Ariz.; twin brother, Darrel (and wife, Doris) Gommels of Fort Dodge; three sisters, Grace (Mrs. Gene) Bilstad of Callender, Iowa, Shirley (Mrs. Bob) Brown of Riceville, Iowa, and Joyce (Mrs. Duane) Ness of Bedford, Texas; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo with the Revs. Milana Joseph and John Cooper officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in Sunrise cemetery in Wahoo.
A memorial has been established to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Victor Heimann
The funeral for Victor L. Heimann, 94, of Snyder will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Leo Catholic Church in Snyder.
He died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, at Good Samaritan Home in Scribner.
He was born March 27, 1910, in Monterey to John and Justina Meister Heimann. He attended St. Boniface Catholic School. He married Emma Wiesen on April 22, 1936, in Dodge. The couple farmed northwest of Snyder until moving into Snyder in 1975. After his retirement, he sold feed at Golden Sun Feeds in Snyder.
He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church where he had served as trustee, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He had served on the co-op and rural fire boards.
Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Tom) Wordekemper of La Vista, Lorraine (Mrs. Gilbert) Ortmeier of Dodge and Virgene Retzlaff of Algonquin, Ill.; a son, Ervin (and wife, Arlene) of Snyder; a sister, Gertrude Heimann of West Point; a brother, Richard Heimann of West Point; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Rev. Mike Eckley will officiate Thursdays service. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today at the church. A wake service will be 7 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in St. Leo cemetery in Snyder. Those wishing to sign the register online may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com.
A memorial has been established to Good Samaritan Home in Scribner.

David McMaster
David C. "Skip" McMaster, 58, of Nebraska City died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at his home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Omaha to Collins Stewart McMaster and Betty Jane Shaffer of Lincoln. The family moved to Hooper when he was 2. He married Ruth Ann Rasmussen of Hooper on June 4, 1967. He was a 1964 graduate of Hooper High School, a 1968 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a 1972 graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He was a family physician at the Auburn Clinic from July 1973 until February 2001, and then at the Physicians Clinic of Nebraska City. He was a UNMC clinical assistant professor, serving as a preceptor to over 80 medical students. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on March 31, 2004.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nebraska City Baseball Association Board and Optimist Club.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Scott (and wife, Tracy) of Laurel, Md., and Brian (and wife, Vicki) of Kirkland, Wash.; mother, Betty of Hooper; a sister, Carmen (Mrs. Tom) Kirk of Manhattan, Kan.; a brother, Rob (and wife, Maureen) of Lincoln; parents-in-law, Ross and Alice Rasmussen of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Janice (Mrs. Roger) Belohlavy of Crete and Nina Kavich of Fremont; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A Celebration of Life service was held Oct. 29 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City with the Rev. Marsha Anderson officiating. Burial was in Logan cemetery near Hooper.

Jewel Allen
Jewel E. Allen, 59, of Lincoln died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004.
She was born May 19, 1945, in Newcastle to Perry and Eleanor (Blatchford) Millie. She was a homemaker and manager of a convenience store for 20 years.
Survivors include: her husband, Larry of Lincoln, and their children, Colleen (and husband, Ed) Doyle of Bloomingdale, Ill., Jonathon Jr. (and wife, Samara) Boothe of Fremont and Clint (and wife, Theresa) Boothe of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, 245 N. 27th St. in Lincoln, with the Rev. John R. Sullivan officiating. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the family.

Hilda Bowers
Hilda L. Bowers, 91, of Montrose, Colo., died Oct. 27, 2004, at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose.
She was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Osmond to the Rev. A. William and Lydia (Noack) Brueggemann. She graduated in 1930 from Fremont High School. She worked five years for Dr. Morrow, graduated from Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing and took graduate work at Ann Arbor, Mich., where she received her certificate in public health nursing. She moved to Benkelman and served as the Dundy County Public Health and School Nurse for five years. She married H. Lee Bowers on Oct. 1, 1944, in Fremont. She raised her children before returning to work at Hester Memorial Nursing Home in Benkelman, where she worked 16 years before retiring in 1980. Following retirement, they moved to Montrose. Her husband preceded her in death Jan. 29, 2004.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in both Benkelman and Montrose. She was a gold-star member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a lifetime member as well. She served as a 4-H leader, Blue Bird and Campfire Girls leader and Junior Legion Auxiliary leader.
Survivors include: three daughters, twins Karen (Mrs. Tom) Crumal of San Antonio and Kay (Mrs. Jim) Richardson of Rockdale, Texas, and Connie Trosper of Montrose; three sisters, Ruth Moritz of Stanton, Lydia Stuenkel of Fremont and Esther Hokamp of St. Louis; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Brueggemann of Long Island, N.Y., and Martha Bowers of Benkelman; and four grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a grandson and three brothers.
The funeral was held Nov. 2 at Zion Lutheran Church in Montrose with the Rev. John Mocko officiating. Burial was in Veterans Memorial cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction.
Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose was in charge of arrangements.

James Kucera
James W. Kucera, 85, of Stanton, formerly of Leigh, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in rural Leigh to Frank and Anna (Trojan) Kucera. He attended Stanton County Rural School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as technician fifth grade, Reconnaissance Company, 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served in overseas campaigns in Naples-Fogia, Anzio, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. He was part of invasions in Salerno (1943) and southern France (1944). He was stationed in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star. He married Lena Morfeld on April 10, 1947, in Leigh. They farmed in Stanton County until he retired in 1993. His wife preceded him in death Aug. 5, 1987, and he remained living on the farm until becoming a resident of Stanton Nursing Home in 2000. He remained a resident until his death.
He was a member of Leigh American Legion Post 302 and Clarkson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6419.
Survivors include: a son, Roger (and wife, Janice) Kucera of Leigh; four daughters, Jean (Mrs. Ron) Folken of Gladstone, Mo., Linda (Mrs. Deon) Tiedtke of Clarkson, Kathy Ueding of Dodge and Patti (Mrs. Gene) Kander of Stanton; three sisters, Ann Stepan of Stanton, Frances Benson of Newman Grove and Marie Hajek of Apple Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a sister and a grandchild.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Leigh with the Rev. Mel Wiese officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday and will continue one hour prior to service time, all at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic cemetery in Leigh with military rites by Leigh American Legion Post No. 302.
Leigh Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Landers
Kathleen Landers, 61, of Fairhope, Ala., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Fairhope after a two-year struggle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Prague to William and Helen Perk. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1965 with a bachelor of science degree in education and did graduate studies in music at the university.
Survivors include: her husband of 37 years, Michael O. Landers of Fairhope, Ala.; a brother, William Perk of Brainard; and two sisters, Carol (and husband, Alf) Polacek of Prague and Betty Shaier of Amann, Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Prague Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lonnie Eschliman officiating. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Prague National cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26148 Capitol Drive, Suite F, Daphne, Ala. 36526.
Kucera Funeral Home of Prague is in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Hank Novak
Henry L. "Hank" Novak, 79, formerly of Weston, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at South Haven Care Center in Wahoo.
He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in rural Weston to Frank and Bessie (Tesinsky) Novak. He attended a country school west of Weston. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning from the service, he became the third generation in his family to take care of the family farm. He was a member of Weston American Legion Post No. 307 and Wahoo VFW Post No. 4502.
Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Lucille Novak; two brothers-in-law, Ed Ourada and George Jonas; 11 nieces; four nephews; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Frank and Milo Novak; and sisters, Henrietta Ourada, Lillian Dvorak and Marcella Jonas.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo with the Vicar Chip Borgstad officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Weston City cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 307 and VFW Post No. 4502.
Memorials made be made to American Legion Post N0. 307.
