Mary Louise Safford

Mary Louise (Wren) Safford, 92, passed away on May 26, 2004 at A.J. Merrick Manor nursing home in Fremont, Nebraska. She was born in Homewood, Kansas July 1, 1911 and has lived in Fremont for 55 years. Mary Louise was a homemaker, taught school in Fremont for 7 years, and as a beautician, operated her own beauty shop for 28 years, retiring in 1980. She and her husband Francis, a long time Gambles employee, were married in 1937 sharing 57 years of happy married life. She was a faithful, long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Fremont.
She is preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1994; parents, John and Grace Wren; 2 brothers, Wallace Wren and Millard Wren and by her good friend Garvis Burrell. She is survived by 3 nephews, Lynn and Bruce Wren of Kansas City and Millard Jr. Wren of Lawrence, Kansas and by a niece Marilyn Nordeen of Ottawa, Kansas and many great nephews and nieces.
Services will be Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 10:00 A.M., at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel. Rev. Melanie Adams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial in Memorial cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Firsts United Methodist Church of Fremont or the Fremont Area Hospice.

Duane J. Bolden

Duane J. (Duke) Bolden, 81
Fremont - Died at Good Samaritan Nursing home in Scribner Thursday morning.
He was born October 21, 1922 at Swedeburg, Nebraska. He moved to Fremont with his parents and was raised here graduating from Fremont High School in 1941. He ran Carlson and Bolden Auto Service for 15 years and in 1972 started Bolden Excavating with his son Robert.
He married Blanch Mitties December 25, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. She died March 3, 2002.

Ronald Bolden (wife Carol) of Fremont
Robert Bolden (wife Jan) of Fremont
5 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren
Duane was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Fremont American Legion Post #20, F.O.E. Aerie 200, Fremont Contractors Association, Fremont Cosmopolitan Club, and was a member of the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years.
Services will be Tuesday June 1 at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Del Hutton officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, the family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. There have been memorials established to Salem Lutheran Church and the Alzheimers Association. Send condolences at www.lattindugan.com

Mildred I. Schreiner
5/23/1913 - 2/11/2004
Fremont - Died at Arbor Manor Nursing Home Wednesday February 11. She was born May 23, 1913 at Nebraska City, Nebraska and was raised there graduating from Nebraska City High School. She moved to Kearney, Nebraska and in 1938 moved to Wayne, Nebraska where she lived prior to coming to Fremont in 1980.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and has held several state offices in the Church. She was president of Chapter AZ of PEO at Wayne, Nebraska and a member of Chapter HK of PEO in Fremont. She also belonged to the WBCCI Airstream Club and Arbor Vita Chapter #92 Order of Eastern Star.
Mildred Vaughn married Raymond A. Schreiner July 28, 1935 at Nebraska City. He died in October of 1976.

1 daughter-Sally Sheppard of Fremont
1 son-David Schreiner (wife Linda) of Phoenix, Arizona
6 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren
Preceded by one son Ronald
Services: Presbyterian Church
Services will be Tuesday February 17 at 10:00 A.M. at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Richard Meyer officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Graveside Services: Wyuka cemetery
Graveside services will be at Wyuka cemetery in Nebraska City at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
There has been a memorial established to the Raymond Schreiner Scholarship Fund at Wayne State College.

David F. Matter
01/21/1932 - 4/27/2004
David F. Matter, 72
Fremont - Died at his home Tuesday morning. He was born January 21, 1932 in Austin, Minnesota and was raised and attended school in Lyle, Minnesota. David enlisted in the Army in July of 1949 and served in Korea with the 2nd Army Division from June of 1950 to August of 1951. He was honorably discharged at Camp Carson Colorado in October of 1952 as a Sgt. First Class. He returned to Lyle and in 1960 moved to Fremont and started Daves Woodworking. When he retired in January of 1995 he continued working for his son Dale part time.
David Matter married Georgia Testa at Lyle, Minnesota June 20, 1986.
He was a member of Fremont American Legion Post 20 for 52 years and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 for 42 years.

Beverly Martin of Austin, Minnesota
Sister in Law: Dorothy Matter of Austin, Minnesota
8 grandchildren: Derrick Matter (wife Joann), Nikole and Chas, Sara, Jake, Shane, Jadalynn, Shannon, Kayden

Services will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel. Rev. Gordon Larson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Veterans rites by the Fremont Honor Guard Fremont VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.

Daniel Charles Quinn

Daniel Quinn, 85
Fremont - Died at Fremont Area Medical Center Sunday night. He was born June 25, 1918 at Tilden, Nebraska. Daniel was raised at Elgin, Nebraska graduating from Elgin High School in 1938. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. After the services he moved to Arlington where he worked for Franzenberg Market as a meat cutter and later worked in Elkhorn, Nebraska, retiring in 1984. .
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 of Arlington.
He married Lorraine Lippold July 30, 1960 in Omaha.

Tustin, California - Died at Tustin California Tuesday April 20. He was born October 8, 1934 in Fremont and was raised here graduating from Fremont High School in 1952. He moved to California and then entered the Army in 1954 serving in Germany before returning to California.

Six neices and 2 nephews
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for Mental Illness.

Richard L. Lahr
10/26/1920 - 4/3/2004
Richard L. Lahr, 83, of Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Georgia died on Saturday, April 3, 2004 following a sudden illness. Formerly of Blair, NE, he was born in Valparaiso, NE, to the late John Paul and Marie Estelle Sears Lahr, on October 26, 1920. Mr. Lahr had lived in this area for the past 4 years. Mr. Lahr had been an insurance adjuster by trade and was a veteran of World War II. During the war he had been a pilot of A-20s and B-25s in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Lahr won the Air Medal for his service and was honorably discharged after the war and then attended the University of Nebraska. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont, NE. Mr. Lahr was a loving, caring and joyful person who loved life, his family and friends and was faithful to his church.
Mr. Lahr is survived by a son and daughter in law, J. Stephen & Sherrill Lahr, of Valdosta, Georgia, a granddaughter Lisa M. (Jeff) Williams, of Atlanta, a grandson Jeff (Stephanie) Lahr, of Atlanta, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Anne Lahr, two brothers and a sister.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont, NE. Memorials may be made to the St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont, NE.

Ann Ott

Ann Ott, 104
Fremont - Died at Merrick Manor Monday morning. She was born December 9, 1899 at Morse Bluff and moved to Fremont in 1925 where she was employed by Owen Printing Company until her retirement after 15 years. As a bowler she won city tournament singles and doubles titles a number of years and the state singles championship in 1940. Ann was a member of the Omaha World Herald Team of the Year in 1951 and in 1969 was selected as a member of the Fremont Bowlers Hall of Fame.
Ann Zakovec married Carl Ott on December 8, 1945. He died in March 2, 1975.

2 nephews-Denny Zakovec of Fremont
Robert Walla of Omaha
a number of great nieces and nephews
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel. Private family services will be held.
