Vernon Fauss
The funeral for Vernon C. Fauss, 84, of Yankton, S.D., formerly of Hooper, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
He died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minn.
He was born June 5, 1920, in Randolph to Jacob and Mabel (Lueninghoener) Fauss. He grew up in Hooper and was a 1937 graduate of Hooper High School. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II from April 1, 1943, to Dec. 14, 1945, and served in France with the 14th Field Army Hospital. He married Ermagrace Jacobsen on Jan. 22, 1944, in St. Louis. After his discharge, he worked for Omaha Public Power District and lived in Omaha. He moved to Hastings in 1949 and worked for Nebraska Public Power District as a power system dispatcher. He moved to Watertown, S.D., in 1954 and was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation (now known as WAPA) as power systems operator. He spent 18 months in Fort Peck, Mont., before returning to Watertown. He retired in 1980. His first wife, Ermagrace, died Aug. 6, 1986. He married Charlotte Anderson Fauss on Sept. 24, 1994, in Hooper. The couple moved to Rapid City in 1994 and then to Yankton in January 2003. In 1994, he had a model shop from which he dispensed model airplanes, parts and his extensive knowledge of the hobby.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Watertown, a former member of Nemo Community Church in Nemo, S.D., and Cordes Lakes Community Church in Cordes Lake, Ariz. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 336, Academy of Model Aeronautics Association and life member of Elks Lodge 838, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 750, American Legion Post 17 and Voiture 773 of 40 & 8, all of Watertown.
Survivors include: his wife, Charlotte; six sons, Clyde (and wife, Jynnine) Fauss of Phoenix, Vern (and wife, Vivian) Fauss of Casper, Wyo., David (and wife, Ann) Fauss of Roseburg, Ore., Larry Fauss of Wahoo, John (and wife, Bonnie) Fauss of Tulsa, Okla., and Richard (and wife, Christine) Fauss of Louisburg, Kan.; a daughter, Carol (and husband, Charles) Gauker of Yankton; two brothers, Ray (and wife, Mary) Fauss of Seattle and Gerald (and wife, Marghi) Fauss of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Flo Fiveash of Spokane, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Jerri Fauss of Hooper; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother.
The Rev. Greg Hall of First United Methodist Church in Fremont will officiate Thursdays service. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of American Legion Post 18 of Hooper and the Winslow/Hooper VFW Post 10535. Burial will be in Hooper cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Nemo Community Church and Cordes Lakes Community Church.

Donald Lofgren
The funeral for Donald M. Lofgren, 80, of West Point will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Church in West Point.
He died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Beldon to Verne and Della Ayre Lofgren. He farmed with his father four miles east of West Point until his retirement and moved into West Point in 1970. He moved to West Point Living Center in 1996.
He was a member of Trinity Church in West Point.
Survivors include a sister, Lola Ruth (and husband, Merle) Gustafson of West Point.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
The Rev. Scott Evans will officiate Wednesdays service. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point with the family present from 3-5 p.m. Those wishing to leave online condolences may do so at stokelyfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in West Side cemetery, rural West Point.
Memorials have been established to the church and the cemetery.

Rose Hladky
The funeral for Rose I. Hladky, 76, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of North Bend, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.
She died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at her daughters home in Sioux City.
She was born Rose Julia on Aug. 5, 1928, in Seward to Martin and Bertha (Falls) Winciker of Tamora. At age 2, she was adopted by Joseph and Josephine (Kral) Krobot. She grew up at Schuyler and was a 1947 graduate of Schuyler High School. She attended Commercial Extension School in Omaha, a secretarial school, for two years. Before her marriage, she worked at the Foster Care Unit of Nebraska in Lincoln, then at Omaha Leather Co. and later for Schuyler Grain Co. as a secretary. She married Adolph Hladky on Oct. 8, 1951, in David City. After their marriage, the couple lived on a farm northwest of North Bend. She worked as a nurses aide at Birchwood Manor in North Bend for a couple of years and at Schuyler Nursing Home in Schuyler. She moved into North Bend in 1989 and had been living with her daughter in Sioux City for the past 2 1/2 years. Her husband preceded her in death May 1, 1985.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church at North Bend and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 Auxiliary at North Bend. She previously was very active in the North Bend Senior Center and was active in the Siouxland Alzheimers Association Senior Day Center in Sioux City.
Survivors include: two daughters, Kathryn (and husband, Thomas) Haack of Sioux City and Linda DeLancey of Omaha; two sisters, Betty Zonker of Delta, Ohio, and June McCartney of Lincoln; and an adopted granddaughter.
She also was preceded in death by a son, a son-in-law, a sister and four brothers.
The Rev. Paul Albenisius will officiate Wednesdays service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery, near Morse Bluff.
A memorial has been established to the Siouxland Alzheimers Association Senior Day Center in Sioux City.

Charles May
Charles B. May, 72, of Fremont died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Fremont.

George Fujan
George Fujan, 79, of Wahoo, formerly of Colon, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at South Haven in Wahoo.
Arrangements are pending at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo.

Clifford Johnson
Clifford L. Johnson, 93, of West Point, died September 30, 2006 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Steven Peeler of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Pilger officiating. Cremation will follow the services with burial at a later date at the Pioneer cemetery near Oakland. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home with family receiving friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Pioneer cemetery or Grace Lutheran Church. Cliff was born February 20, 1913 on a farm south west of Oakland in Burt County. His mother, Lydia Johnson died when Cliff was four. He was then raised by his grandparents C. Albert and Ida Johnson. He attended school at Rock School, rural Oakland. On August 12, 1931, he married Marion A. Hansen at Elk Point, South Dakota. Cliff operated West Point Rendering from 1939 until 1996. He was instrumental in the founding and operating of Grain States Feed in 1957 and Grain States Soya in 1958 until the late 1980’s.
Cliff was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his son Donald L. (Carol) Johnson of West Point, grandchildren Scott (Erin) Johnson of Lincoln, Carrie (Randy Brock) Johnson of Ashby, NE and Danny (Genene Hansen) Johnson of West Point, great grandchildren Eric Johnson, Kylie Johnson, Trenten Dohmen, Kristy Johnson, Matthew Brock, Aleasha LaCroix, Amanda Brock, and Gregory Johnson, half brother Howard Larsen, half sister Shirley Anderson both of Albuquerque, NM, brother in law Milfred Hansen of St. Charles, MO, sister in law Bernice Hansen of Arlington. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marion in May of 2000, his parents and a half brother Ivan Johnson.

Richard Burger
Richard Allen Burger, 65, of West Point died Thursday, January 19, 2007 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Brotzman officiating. Burial will be in the Beemer cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Richard “Dick” Burger was born January 29, 1941 at Palisade, Minnesota to Jacob and Olive Poole Burger. Dick grew up in Castana, Iowa. The family moved following the death of his father, to Walthill in 1957, there he was a 1959 graduate of Walthill High School. In September of 1978, he married Marie Gurntke and moved to West Point. Dick worked as a government meat inspector for 34 years retiring in 2004. On December 9, 2003, Dick received a kidney transplant.
Dick was member of Elkhorn Valley Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed fishing, air boating, hunting and antique tractors. He and Marie were very much involved in raising some of their grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Marie, of West Point, step son Harilos (Monica) Gurntke and step daughter Tanja Nasa, brother John “Jim” (Norma) of Scribner, grandchildren Chelsea, Aaron, Brendon, Courtney, Nikiy, Tyler, Elijah, Matthew, Mike, Jacqueline, Michelle, and Georges. He is preceded in death by his parents and step father, Rueben Wenger, daughter Faith and sister Olive “Rose” Jenkins.

Bertha Samuelson
Bertha Amelia Samuelson, 101, of West Point, died January 23, 2007 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Don Olson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Bertha was February 25, 1905 in West Point to F. William and Elise “Lizzie” Pates. She grew up on a farm. On January 3, 1923 she married Arvid J. Samuelson, Sr. at a Presbyterian Church in Omaha. The couple farmed in Cuming and Burt Counties near Lyons and Bancroft, retiring to West Point in the late 1950’s. Bertha then worked at the West Point Living Center.

Bertha was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Woman’s Club, and was a Red Cross and Hospital volunteer. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, especially Sheep Head and Pinochle, and was a wonderful baker. Swedish Pastry was her specialty.
Survivors include daughters Lucille (Dennis) Poledna of Omaha, Ina (Harold “Deke”) Welding of West Point, twin sons Arvid, Jr. “Sonny” (Imogene) of Wakefield and Arnold (Mila) of Mesa, AZ, 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and 2 great great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arvid, on January 6, 1962, sisters Rose Albrecht, Ida Zahnow, and Clara Pates, brothers Edward, Robert, Arthur, Herbert, Rudolph, and Edwin Pates, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

Father Leo Kreikemeier
Reverend Leo A. Kreikemeier, 88, of West Point, died January 23, 2007 at West Point Living Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey, west of West Point, with Most Reverend Elden Francis Curtiss as celebrant. Public Wake Services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Central Catholic or Guardian Angels Endowments. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and continue at the church. Father Leo was born November 19, 1918 at Monterey to Bernard and Bertha Meister Kreikemeier. He attended grade school at St. Boniface Catholic School, high school and college at Conception, MO, graduated from the Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, MO and was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest on September 18, 1943. He served as Associate Pastor at St. Cecilia Cathedral and St. Rose, both in Omaha and as Pastor of St. Anthony, Platte County, St. Rose, Hooper, St. Lawrence, Scribner, Sts. Peter and Paul, Howells, St. Philip Neri, Omaha, St. Patrick, Tekamah, Holy Family, Decatur and St. Joseph, Platte Center. He retired to Marianna at Cedar Bluffs in June of 1991.
Father was instrumental in the founding of Knights of Columbus Councils in Howells and Platte Center and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. In his retirement, He looked forward to his weekly card game of Sheephead with his friends.
Survivors include a sister Bernadine (Eugene) Pieper of Gary, SD, brother John B. (Virginia) Kreikemeier of West Point, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Gertrude Diekemper and Theresa Sellhorst, brothers John, Herman and Joseph.

Carol Brester
Carol Ann Brester, 57, of Dodge, died January 27, 2007 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
Public Wake Services will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Franklin Dvorak officiating. There will be a 3:00 p.m. Tuesday Christian Mothers Rosary at the church. Private family funeral mass will be held with burial at St. Wenceslaus cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Memorials may be made to Dodge Rescue or St. Wenceslaus Altar Society. Carol was born May 21, 1949 at Fremont to Joseph and Marie Koehler Vacha. She grew up on the farm and attended country school dist. 36 east of Scribner, and Scribner High School. She was a 1967 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Omaha. She worked at the Valley View Country Club in Fremont before marrying David Brester, September 11, 1971, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner. The couple lived in Dodge where Carol was a homemaker until they purchased the Merry Martini Lounge in 1993.
Carol was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Alter Society and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking.
Survivors include her husband, Dave, of Dodge, daughters Rhonda Brester of Omaha and Renee (Chad) Bayer of Howells, brothers Michael (Cheryl) Vacha of Hooper and Roger (Carol) Vacha of Scribner, mother in law Milada Brester of Dodge and 3 granddaughters Chelsea, Courtney and Carly Bayer all of Howells. She is preceded in death by her parents.
