Catherine Lummel
Catherine M. Lummel, 87, of West Point died June 28, 2007 at West Point Living Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Guild Rosary will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday and Public Wake Services will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday both at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Michael’s cemetery. Catherine was born July 5, 1918 on the farm near Aloys to Henry and Philomena Doerneman Dinslage and attended St. Aloysius School thru the 8th grade. She worked on the farm and for a few years in Omaha. She married
Joe Lummel. The couple lived in West Point and Catherine cleaned houses. Catherine moved to West Point Living Center in August of 2002.
Catherine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Guild. Catherine was a wonderful gardener who enjoyed caring for her flowers and vegetables. She was very fond of her parakeet “Dickie”.
Survivors include sisters Johanna Neesen and Helen Gentrup, brother Joe Dinslage, sister in law Theresa Dinslage all of West Point and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, on April, 18, 1994 sister Elizabeth Hunke, brothers Theodore and Leonard Dinslage, sister in laws Sophie, Mamie and Agnella Dinslage and brother in laws Hilary Gentrup and Walter Neesen.
Gertrude Pagels
Gertrude Anna Pagels, 93, of Grand Island, formerly of West Point and rural Bancroft, died November 2, 2007 in Grand Island.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft, with Reverend Jeff Warner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Gertrude was born May 14, 1914 at Beemer to Theodore and Lola Borgelt Ludwig. She grew up on the family farm and was a Beemer High School graduate. In the early years, she worked as a department store clerk in Omaha. On October 4, 1941, she married
Raymond Pagels. The couple farmed near Bancroft. Gertrude was active in the Zion Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choir. In September of 1982, Gertrude retired to West Point, moving into St. Joseph’s retirement Home in 1992 and finally to Grand Island in 1996.
Survivors include her daughter Darla (Larry) Wilton of Grand Island, grandchildren Jonathan, Laura and Joshua Wilton, sister in law Hermine Ludwig of West Point, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in by her husband, Raymond, in June of 1982, son LaMont in June of 1993, brothers Harry, Artwin and Martin Ludwig.
Tom Heimann
Thomas Bernard Heimann, 54, of West Point, died Monday, November 5, 2007 at his farm home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Mark McKercher as celebrant. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Boniface cemetery at Monterey. Visitation will be noon until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home and continue at the Church. Memorials may be made to Central Catholic Endowment.
Tom was born November 12, 1952 at West Point to August “Gus” and Mildred “Mickie” Wackel Heimann. He attended St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1971. He married
Lori Yosten in 1982, the couple later divorced. Tom worked as truck driver and part time farmer. He had been employed at West Point Welding, West Point International, Welding Construction and Fremont Consolidated Carriers. He was currently working at Gerhold Construction and Beed Transportation.
Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, and was passionate about following his children in their activities.
Survivors include daughter Geri Rose Heimann of West Point, sons: Joseph, Anthony and Brandon Heiman all of West Point, his father, Gus, of West Point, sisters; Sister Nadine Heimann of Grand Island, Patty (David) Hemmer of Lindsay, and Kathleen (Robert) Mulder of Lincoln, numerous cousins and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother.
Clara Throener
Clara Sophie Throener, 92, formerly of Dodge, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at West Point Living Center in West Point.

Clara was born November 16, 1915 at Souk Center, MN to Joseph and Kristina Stieren Krienert. She moved as a young girl to Osmond, NE, where she grew up and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. On February 10, 1942 she married
Charles Throener at St. Mary’s Church in Osmond. The couple farmed near Osmond until 1949 when they moved to the farm near Dodge. They retired to St. Joseph’s retirement Community in West Point in 2002.
Clara was a member of St. Wencelaus Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed her gardening.
Survivors include daughters; Sr. Patricia Throener of Petersburg and Mary (Larry) Auen of Sioux City, IA, sons; Joseph (Connie) of Norfolk and Charles, Jr. (Carolyn) of Dodge, grandchildren ;Thomas Auen, Regina Neuhalfen, Valerie Adams, Brian, Melanie and Michael Throener, great grandchildren; Madison and Cole Neuhalfen, Carter and Ashlynn Throener, Abigail and Anna Adams, and Olivia Throener, sisters; Helen Hetrick of Milford, IA and Loretta Krienert of Somanauk, IL, brothers; Joseph Krienert of Earlville, IL, Norbert Krienert of Osmond and Adolph (Margaret) of Snyder. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, Sr. in December of 2005,grandson Paul Throenrt, sisters; Sister Lauriana Krienert and Marie Throener and brother Vincent Krienert.
James Knievel
Memorial services for James Knievel, 79, formerly of West Point, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday Novemeber 18, 2007 at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. James died October 30, 2007 in Arizona.
Eileen Masilko
C. Eileen Masilko, 83, of West Point, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the home of her bother.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Catherine Eileen Masilko was born May 15, 1924 in Omaha to Edward and Catherine Hayes Masilko. She grew up in Omaha, attended Holy Angels grade school and graduated from Benson High in 1942. Eileen joined the Dominican Order of sisters in Wisconsin, working as a teacher in Catholic Schools, primarily in Chicago. After leaving the Convent she continued teaching in Milwaukee, WI and Clarkson, NE, ending up in West Point teaching at Guardian Angels until her retirement in the late 1980’s.
Eileen was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and guild. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s retirement Community and was an avid reader.
Survivors include her brother, Mike (Virginia) Masilko of West Point, sister Mary Dietz of Omaha, nieces and nephews Jim Dietz, John Dietz, Kate Rongish, Chris Walstrom, Tim Masilko, Larry Masilko, Richard Masilko, Eileen Welsh, Doug Masilko, Dave Masilko, Teresa Heller and Melissa Bosselman. She is preceded in death by her parents and a niece Diane.
Beth Heywood Peters
Beth Heywood Peters, 86, of West Point, died November 19, 2007 at Creighton Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Guild and Christian Mothers Rosary will be 1:30 p.m. Friday and public Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. Friday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Beth was born June 10, 1921 at Rogers, to Wesley and Pearl Maben Dunn. She grew up in the Rogers and North Bend area and graduated from North Bend High School in 1938. After graduation, she taught country school for a year. On November 21, 1942, Beth married
James Heywood at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Omaha. The couple farmed south of Snyder, where Beth was active with the milking operation. Following the death of her husband in February of 1994, Beth moved to West Point. It was there on June 16, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church that she married
Jack Peters. The couple lived in Schuyler until his death in December of 2003, when Beth returned to West Point.
Beth was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild and Christian Mothers. She was active at the Sunshine Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch and Sheephead.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Sutton of Phoenix, AZ, and Cheryl (Mark) Schlickbernd of West Point, son Larry Heywood, of Redding CA, step-son Larry (Carolyn) Peters of Schuyler, step daughter Patty (Bernie) Valish of Lexington, grandchildren Krista Corselli, Mike (Candise) Schlickbernd, Emily (Brandon) Kubela and Erica Schlickbernd, great grandchildren Kayley Kubela, Aloura and Mariah L'Africain, 6 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husbands James Heywood and Jack Peters and brothers Keith and Wayne Dunn.
DeVerne Smidt
DeVerne Dean Smidt, 73, of West Point, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at West Point Living Center.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Mount Hope cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire Department.
DeVerne was born January 15, 1934, at Wisner to Jesse and Olga Dostal Smidt. He attended West Point Public Schools. DeVerne entered the US Army in October of 1954. While stationed in England, he married
Marlene Jenkins in Birmingham on August 20, 1956. Following his November 1962 discharge, DeVerne returned to West Point. He was employed as a lineman for the Rural Electric Association and for the Nebraska Department of Roads. In 1972 he purchased Smitty’s Tavern. On October 13, 1990 he married
Betty Young. He retired in 2002.
DeVerne was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, 40 year member of the Volunteer Fire Department, VFW and American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of West Point, daughters Jacque (Monte) Nybo of Concrete, WA, Sharon (Valen) Neesen and Karen (Danny) Breitkruetz both of West Point, son David (Machelle Jacob) Smidt of West Point, twin brother DeVerle (Claire) Smidt of West Point, step daughters; Vicky (Kenny) Krupka of Beemer and Debra (Richard) Feyerherm of West Point, step son Scott (Paula) Young of Beemer, grandchildren: Christopher (Brooke) Neesen, Philip, Ashley and Jesse Neesen, Lacy (John Rowell) Smidt, Cole Smidt, Anthony (Amy) Schenck, Jordan and Amy Breitkruetz, great grandchildren: Parker Neesen, Cole, Mason, and Abigail Wheeler, step grandchildren, Troy (Ann) Streeter, Travis (Sherri) Streeter, Dustin and Derek Feyerherm, Angela (John) Thillander, Brittney Krupka, Kelli (Jamie) Fleetwood, Jaclyn, Grant, Reilly, Madison, and Hannah Young, He is preceded in death by his wife Marlene in December of 1982, son Dean in July of 2006, sister and brother in law Georgene and Ed Remm, and his parents.

Leo V. Siebrandt, 85, of West Point, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at West Point Living Center.

Leo was born December 6, 1921 at Beemer, to Herman and Anna Hansen Siebrandt. He was confirmed in 1936, graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School in West Point and was a 1941 graduate of West Point High School. On March 9, 1948 he married
Arlene J. Stahmer. The couple later divorced. Leo farmed his adult life south of West Point, retiring to St. Joseph’s Retirement Home in 2004. He loved the farm and was an avid outdoorsman.
Leo was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son Randy (Kayla) Siebrandt of West Point, daughters; Diane (fiancé Wayne Grulke) Miller of Omaha, Laurie Porter of Omaha, and Judy Burke of Center Ossipee, NH, grandchildren; Patrick and Jeffrey Miller, Eric (Tonya) Krutilek, Jennifer (Daniel) Irving, Matthew (Rebecca) Siebrandt, Timothy (Amy) Siebrandt, Pamela (Adam) Wermers, and Matthew Porter, great grandchildren; Kaylee and Kyle Krutilek, Katelyn Wermers, Braxton and Brooklyn Siebrandt and Jordan Irving. He is preceded in death by 3 infant siblings, parents, son Clarke in 1966, sister and brother law Margaret and William Harris and son in law Franklin Miller.
Brian Steffensmeier
Brian J. Steffensmeier, 40, of West Point, died November 30, 2007 at West Point Living Center.

Brian Joseph Steffensmeier was born December 14, 1966 at West Point to Herman and Bernice Buse Steffensmeier. Brian grew up in West Point and was a1986 West Point Public High School graduate. Brian followed in his family tradition of working as a truck driver, working for Steffensmeier Trucking, Crete Carrier and Zitner Trucking. Brian worked until his health would no longer allow.
Brian was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing the guitar.
Survivors include his mother, Bernice, sisters Carol Steffensmeier of Minneapolis, MN, Susan (Randy) Mejstrik of Omaha, and Sharon Braun of Wayne, brothers David (Joan), Larry (Debbie) and Mark Steffensmeier all of West Point, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father.
