Betty Schliemann
Betty Arlene Schliemann passed away Feb. 19, 2006, at her home in Upland, Calif.
Betty was born in North Platte, Neb., Oct. 30, 1928.
She was active in her church and with her community.
Betty is survived by her husband, Hal, of 57 years; daughter, Roxann Bane (spouse Dennis) of San Jose; son, Jon Dana Schliemann of Upland; daughter, Juliann Perdue (spouse Maxie) of Riverside; plus one granddaughter and six grandsons (Christin, Ryan, Trevor, Kyle, Willie, Hayden and Chaz).
She will join her grandson Jeffrey.
Betty married Harald (Hal) Schliemann in 1948 and they relocated to California in 1954. Betty and Hal moved to Upland in 1963.
She retired from Lockheed in Ontario as a Classified Documents Librarian in 1991. She also served a term on the San Bernardino Grand Jury.
Betty loved people and she loved to travel. She not only hosted foreign exchange students from Brazil, Norway and Finland, she welcomed everyone into her home. Betty had the brightest of smiles and will truly be missed by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life Bible Fellowship Church, 2426 N. Euclid Avenue, Upland, CA 91784.
Arrangements entrusted to Cucamonga Mortuary.
Memorial services were held on Feb. 23 at the Life Bible Fellowship Church.
Interment was on Feb. 24 at Riverside National cemetery.

Ronald Peckham
Ronald "Terry" Peckham, 59, of Holyoke, Colo., died at his home in Holyoke on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006.
Terry Peckham was born July 19, 1946 in Lincoln, Neb. to Earl and Rose Peckham.
He attended school in Holyoke, Colo. and had worked for Holyoke Co-op for many years as a maintenance man and was an avid hunter for pheasants and large game. Terry also enjoyed fishing; his favorite place to fish and camp was Enders Lake. He also enjoyed rock hunting.
He was known to his family as a "Gentle Giant," he looked forward to family gatherings especially around the holidays.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary Peckham and Lanny Peckham. Survivors include brothers, Larry Peckham of Denver, Colo. and Randy Peckham of Elco, Nev.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 27 at Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, Colo.
Burial will be at a later date at the Crete cemetery in Champion, Neb.
Memorials can be made to the Terry Peckham memorial fund in care of Larry Peckham, 2431 South Newberry Court, Denver, Colo. 80224.
Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Zech
Leo Eugene Zech was born Nov. 7, 1929 to Paul and Lydia (Wagner) Zech of Imperial, Neb.
Leo was baptized, Dec. 8, 1929 and was confirmed by Rev. Herbert Schulenburg at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial on May 28, 1944. Leo's Confirmation verse is Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile."
Leo attended school in rural Chase County and was employed at Midwest Sales and Service for 10 years and Case for two years as a mechanic.
Leo was a bachelor with a wonderful personality. He loved homemade bread and Skippy peanut butter. Woodworking was his passion and he made many beautiful things. He also enjoyed gardening.
Leo went to be with his Lord on Feb. 21, 2006 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Neb. at the age of 76 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Lydia Zech; nephew, Duane Greim and brother-in-law, Melvin Greim.
Survivors include sister, Arline Greim of Omaha, Neb.; nephew, DeWayne Greim of Omaha, Neb.; great nieces, Amy and Lindsey Magdanz; special friend, Marla Kramer of Grant, Neb.; and many cousins and friends.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial.
Pallbearers were Ivan Ekart, Richard Mueller, Clinton Nordhausen, Kermit Kuecker, Mike Fanning and Dave Oxford.
Honorary pallbearers were Gilbert Greim, Art Wagner, Bob Ahrens, Dave Magdanz, DeWayne Greim and Jim Wagner.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Cards may be sent to Carol Greim, 13308 Hascall Street, Omaha, NE 68144.
Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial was in charge of arrangements.

Victor Papen
Victor L. Papen, 70, of Augusta, Kan. passed away, Feb. 14, 2006.
Victor was born in Lamar, Neb. on Sept. 6, 1935, the son of Virgil Clinton and Geneve (Monasmith) Papen.
He retired as a maintenance manager at Gateway Inn, Liberal, Kan.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Michael "Sonny," Mannheim, Germany; stepson, Richard (Katherine) Crowe, Fresno, Calif.; stepdaughters, Leah Weston, Salem, Mass.; and Toni McEnaney (Roger Burns), Grandview, Mo.; brothers, Russell (Elaine), Mt. Home, Ark. and James (Lorraine), Rose Hill, Kan.; sister, Kathryn Widener, Haysville, Kan.; sister-in-law, Carolyn Papen, Tulsa, Okla.; four step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert N. Papen; stepson, Joey Halvarson; and step-grandson, Kevin Le.
Services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at Christ Lutheran Church, Augusta, Kan.
Burial was at Kechi cemetery.
Memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Christ Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.

Leo Zech
Leo E. Zech, 76, of Imperial, Neb. passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Survivors include one sister, Arline Greim of Omaha; nieces, Joan Magdanz and husband David of Houston, Texas, and Carol Greim of Omaha, Neb.; and one nephew, DeWayne Greim of Omaha.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, evening from 6-8 p.m. at Liewer Funeral Home.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
Liewer Funeral Home of Imperial is in charge of arrangements.

Caroline Cole
Caroline C. Cole was born March 18, 1925, in Wilmington, N.C. and passed away Feb. 10, 2006.
Caroline graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington in 1943.
She worked as a civil servant where she met her husband of 49 years, Victor Cole. She and Victor had six children from coast to coast: Pamela Gardner in North Carolina, Ken Cole, Patty Sullivan, Penny Heaton and David Cole in Nebraska and Vickie Regen in Oregon.
She and Victor moved their family from Imperial, Neb. to Albany, Ore. in 1962, where she resided until 2004 when she moved to Portland, Ore. to be near her children.
Caroline is survived by her six children; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Lucille Richmond
Lucille Richmond was born on Aug. 31, 1921 at Lodgepole, Neb. She was the youngest of three daughters born to George and Dora Hein Whitefoot.
Lucille grew up in the Lodgepole community where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1939.
After graduation, Lucille moved to Sidney, Neb., where she worked until 1942 when she moved to Grant, Neb., where she owned and operated a cafe.
Lucille was married to Floyd Richmond on June 27, 1943. They lived for a brief time at the Richmond farmstead southwest of Grant before moving to their farm northeast of Grant.
In addition to helping Floyd, Lucille worked for many years as a clerk for the Sullivan Department Store and later the Aten Department Store. They lived on the farm until 1976 when they moved to the north edge of Grant.
Floyd died in 1982 and Lucille continued to maintain her home and yard until 2003 when she moved to the Westview Retirement Center.
Lucille had surgery at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Neb., on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Complications developed from the surgery and she died at Great Plains on Friday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2006. She had reached the age of 84.
Lucille was baptized as a young girl at Boelus, Neb., and had been a long time active member of the Grant United Methodist Church. She had also been a long time member of the Sawyer Extension Club.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by one sister, Irma Kreider.
She is survived by her son Bill and wife Carmen Richmond of rural Grant and her daughter Jo Ann and husband John Benge of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren, Tonya and husband Jeff Olsen, Ryan, Angela and Curt Richmond, Bonnie and husband Larry Wiecht, Shawn and wife Amy, Brian and Danny Benge; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Reilly and Jensen; one sister, Phyllis Maline of Cozad, Neb.; other relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Sally Ruggia-Haden officiating.
Music was provided by Donice Holaway and Lori McCloskey.
Casketbearers were Ryan Richmond, Curt Richmond, Jeff Olsen, Shawn Benge, Brian Benge, Danny Benge and Larry Weicht.
Interment was in the Grant cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Lorance
Helen Beatrice (Tatum) Lorance died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Neb. at the age of 101.
She was born Aug. 31, 1904 at Waverly, Neb. to Joseph Earl and Lena Leota (Hughes) Tatum, and attended school in Waverly before moving with her family at the age of 14, to her family's farm south of Madrid, Neb.
After a short time, Helen moved with her family to a farm south of Wauneta, Neb. It was near here, at a local barn dance, that she met her future husband, Willis Lorance. They were united in marriage on Aug. 18, 1926, and to this union that would last more than 63 years, a daughter, Norma was born.
Helen and Willis lived on their farm 10 miles northwest of Stratton all of their married lives. Being a homemaker and a farmwife was something Helen was very proud of. She was an excellent cook and especially enjoyed baking pies, including her specialty, green tomato pie.
When Helen wasn't busy helping with farm chores or raising her daughter, she and Willis could often be found at square dances and folk dances throughout the area. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stratton.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Joseph and Lena Tatum; her loving husband, Willis; brother, Harry Tatum; sisters, Wilma Romine and her husband, Chester, and Lillian Walgren and her husband, Leslie; Cleo Harrison and her husband, Elmer.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma Thomas and husband, Robert of Stratton, NE; two grandchildren, Rita Crose of Loveland, CO, and Mike Brown of North Platte, NE; six great-grandchildren, Barret Brown of Omaha, NE, Blake Brown of North Platte, NE, and step-great-grandchildren, Trevor Larsen and wife, Jennifer of Omaha, NE, Tiffany O'Day and husband, Terry of Santa Monica, CA, Tara Layman and husband, John of Centerville, VA and Tammy Larsen of Santa Monica, CA; two great-great-great grandchildren, Emma Layman and Teagan O'Day.; sister-in-law, Ruby Tatum of Julesburg, CO; and numerous other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. (CST) at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with Rev. Brian Fong officiating.
Organist was Marjorie Redfield and Beth Kollmorgen was pianist. Vocalist was Sandy Thompson.
Casketbearers were Scott Walgren, Rex Walgren, Ed Harrison, Don Harrison, Garth West and Franklin West.
Interment followed services at Rose Hill cemetery near Stratton.
Memorials may be given in her name.
Arrangements were under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Stratton.

Mildred Lattimer
Mildred Irene Zajic Lattimer entered into eternal peace at her home on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Funeral services were held on Jan. 25, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, Idaho. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell, Idaho.
Mildred was born on Jan. 27, 1923, to Vencle and Elizabeth Kudrna Zajic in Red Cloud, Neb. She had one brother, Ernest and five sisters, Albie, Evelyn, Edith, Elsie and Bernice. Mildred was raised and educated in Imperial, Neb. After graduation, she taught school for three years.
Mildred met and fell in love with Donald L. Lattimer, also of Imperial. They were married on June 20, 1944, in St. Francis, Kan. After the birth of their first child, Darrell, they moved to Caldwell in 1949 to live on a dairy farm. Their second and third children, Richard and Donna, were born while they were living here. Donald's work later took them to California and Nevada. Upon returning to Idaho, they started a logging business in Emmett. In 1960, they moved back to Caldwell where Donald worked for Dairymen's Creamery and Mildred worked for Crookham Seed Company until her retirement.
Mildred and Donald loved to fish and to grow the most gorgeous and bountiful gardens together. In 1979, they purchased their dream home in Nampa, which they were able to enjoy together for a short time before Donald's passing.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, brother and four sisters.
She is survived by her three children, Darrell (Kathy) Lattimer, Richard (Kathy) Lattimer and Donna (Bob) Turnbull; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Power; along with many nieces and nephews.
