Amel Peterson
Amel Mons Peterson was born Dec. 20, 1911, in Dundy County, Neb., the third child of Alex and Lena (Robb) Peterson and they lived on a ranch.
Amel passed from this life at the Imperial Manor on Feb. 8, 2005, at the age of 93.
He received his education in county schools and graduated with an eighth grade education. He was a hard working man that trained horses, did haying, some rodeoing and was involved in cattle drives and all aspects of the cattle industry.
He was married to Ruby Eunice Douglass on June 28, 1937. To this union seven children were born: Amy, Connie, Larry, Gail, Neil Jay, Sharon and Kathy.
They ran a dairy farm north of Haigler, Neb. for a few years. The three oldest children were born while they were there.
His dream of being a rancher came true in 1942 when they purchased a ranch in the northwest corner of Dundy County. The four younger children were born while they were at the ranch. They ranched until 1962 and then he worked at the Lamar co-op until 1974.
After that they purchased the grocery store in Lamar which they operated until 1978.
Amel and Eunice moved to Imperial, Neb. in 1997 where he lived the remainder of his life.
Amel was a member of the Lamar Evangelical United Brethren Church while they lived in Lamar. After they moved to Imperial they placed their membership in the Enders Church of the Brethren in Enders, Neb. Amel was also very involved in organizing and supporting the Imperial Community Center.
Amel will be remembered for his wisdom, sense of humor, his love of gardening, his attendance at the ball games and his card playing abilities. He will also be remembered as a devoted husband and father.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Neil Jay; three brothers, Leigh, Carl and Elmer; a sister, Fern Dowlin; and infant great granddaughter, Faith LaMunyon.
Survivors include his wife Eunice of Imperial, Neb.; sons and daughters: Amy and husband Harlan Petersen of Hay Springs, Neb., Connie and husband John Buresh of Littleton, Colo., Larry Peterson and wife Gail of Imperial, Neb., Gail and husband Pat Wees of Boise, Idaho, Sharon and husband Charles Rogers of Estes Park, Colo., Kathy and husband Ron Riley of Lincoln, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson; one brother Hoyt Peterson of Minatare, Neb.; two sisters, Helen and husband Bob Brown of Imperial, Neb. and Dorothy and husband Harry Blecha of Wray, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Imperial Bible Church, Imperial, Neb. with Rev. Francis Baker and Martin Harmon officiating.
Organist was Mrs. Linda Varilek and soloist was Mr. Keith Buresh. Violinist was Mr. Jonathan Beverly.
Casketbearers were grandsons Steve Petersen, Darrell Petersen, Gary Petersen, Keith Buresh, Bruce Peterson, Nathan Rogers and Adam Rogers.
Interment was at the Crete cemetery, Champion, Neb.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dolores Greim
Dolores C. Greim died Feb. 9, 2005, at the Imperial Manor in Imperial, Neb. at the age of 75 years.
She was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Imperial, Neb. to William and Edna Ziegler.
She attended elementary and high school in Imperial.
Dee was married to Lester Greim on Aug. 29, 1946 in Imperial. They farmed in Chase County where she resided for 59 years.
Dee enjoyed gardening, cooking, the wonder of nature, art and she had a great love for reading.
She assisted Lester with a variety of farming activities throughout her life.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband, Lester Greim; son, Lonnie (Karen) of Boulder, Colo.; son, Scott of Centennial, Colo.; grandchildren, Christen and Matthew; brother, William Thomas (Pat) of Moorehead, Minn. and Carmen Jacobsen (Roger) of Dana Point, Calif.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to the Imperial Library Building Fund in Imperial, Neb.
Inurnment graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial, Neb. with Rev. Francis Baker officiating.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Davison
Helen Davison a long time resident of the Champion area, was born Jan. 21, 1910, to Alfred and Lottie (Lovenburg) Justice in Manhattan, Kan.
As a young girl she moved with her family to Madrid, Neb. where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Madrid High School in 1928.
Helen married Clay Davison on July 30, 1930, at Grant, Neb. and the couple made their home in Champion.
Helen clerked many years for the Imperial Auction Service and later became a cook at District #66 school, where she was employed for 26 years.
She passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2005, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. Helen was 95 years of age.
Helen had many hobbies including sewing, collecting antique glassware and she also loved to play pitch. She was also a member of the Women's VFW Auxiliary and Rebeccas Lodge of Imperial.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clay in 1986; four brothers, Gene, Leonard, Willard and LeRoy and sisters, Eunice and Edith.
Survivors include son, Larry Davidson and wife, Peggy, Canon City, Colo.; five grandchildren, Bob Davison, Ronnie Davison, JoDee Davison, Cathy Dewsbury and Connie Davison; six great grandchildren, David, Stefanie, Kristin, Lyndsey, Damon and Denise.
Graveside services for Helen Davison were held Wednesday morning, Feb. 9, 2005, 10 a.m. at the Lakeview cemetery, Champion, Neb. with Robert Davison officiating.
A memorial has been established in Helen's memory.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Amel Peterson
Amel Peterson, age 93, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, 2005, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include wife, Eunice of Imperial; daughter, Amy Peterson of Hay Springs, Neb.; daughter, Connie Buresch of Littleton, Colo.; son, Larry Peterson of Imperial, Neb.; and daughter, Gail Wees of Boise, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Imperial Bible Church.
Interment will follow at the Crete cemetery, Champion, Neb.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon, Feb. 11, 2005, 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial Community Center.

Dolores Greim
Dolores Greim, age 75, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 9, 2005, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Neb.
All arrangements are pending.

Nina Ruth Wood
Nina Ruth (Allen) Wood of Geneva passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at her home.
She is survived by husband, Arvin "Corky" Wood; daughter, Janette; sons, Dennis and Kim; and sisters, Marie Mefford and Lu Henson; nieces, nephews and cousins including Fern McCoy, John Monasmith, Don Monasmith and Joan Mathews.
A more complete obituary will follow in a later issue.

Otto Bartels
Otto Carl Dietrich Heinrich Bartels was born March 13, 1903, to Carl and Dorothea M. (Fortkamp) Bartels on a farm near Elk Creek, Neb.
As a young man, Otto moved with his parents and four siblings to a farm south of Enders, Neb. Otto attended school at Elk Creek, the Ough Divide, and St. Paul's Parochial School. He was baptized into the faith on April 5, 1903, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Elk Creek and confirmed in that same faith on March 19, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wauneta. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and participated in Walther League, the band and choir.
In 1936, Otto married Ida Helen Damrow and they made their home on a farm south of Enders. This union was blessed with six children.
Otto farmed for many years, first with a brother and then independently. Although they moved into the community of Wauneta in 1964, Otto remained active with the farm operation until well into his later years. Otto and Ida became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta.
Throughout his life, Otto had many interests, but he was most passionate about music. A self taught musician, he played many instruments. In later years, he primarily focused on his love for the violin and piano.
After a long, healthy and active life, Otto quietly passed away on Wednesday evening, Feb. 2, 2005, at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home. He was 101 years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Ida, of Wauneta, Neb.; son Wayne Bartels and wife, Donna, of Enders; son Dale Bartels and wife, Barbara, of Lewellen, Neb.; daughter Barbara and husband, Jerry Cooper, of Henderson, Nev.; daughter Lois and husband, Lee Glover, of Wauneta; son Allen Bartels and wife, Joyce, of Harvard, Neb.; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; sister, Elsie Becker and brother, Gustav Bartels and wife, Margie, all of Wauneta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betty Morgan; grandchildren: Guy Morgan, Kim Cooper, Ricky Dunham and Sarah Bartels; and siblings: Arnold, Frieda Crosson, Reinhold, Alfred, Walter and Reuben.
Funeral services for Otto were held Monday morning, Feb. 7, 2005, at 10 a.m. MT at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wauneta, with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating.
Songs chosen by the family were "In the Garden," a duet sung by Brooke Cooper and mother, Barbara Cooper, accompanied by Barbara and the congregational hymns, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Standing on the Promises." Organist was Berneta Steinert.
A tribute to grandpa was given by grandson Pete Bartels.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Carl Bartels, Mike Cooper, Robbie Dunham, Peter Bartels, Skyler Bartels and Zackary Bartels.
Interment followed at Riverside cemetery at Wauneta.
A memorial has been established in Otto's memory.

Edith 'Micky' Houston
Edith Marguerite Drabing Houston was born May 7, 1917, to John Franklin and Florence Emily Knight Drabing at their home south of Holyoke, Colo.
She was the fifth of six children. When she was very young her father nicknamed her "Micky," and this was the name she became known by to family and friends.
She passed away early the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home. She was 87 years old.
Her family moved to Imperial when she was small and she lived in Chase County all her life except for a year in Florida, and a year when she moved back to Holyoke, Colo.
Marguerite married Glen Houston on June 4, 1938 in St. Francis, Kan. They had no children, however, in 1963 Marguerite's sister Ferne and her husband Leland Banks were killed in an automobile accident, and the Houstons opened their hearts and home to the couple's surviving daughters, Linda and Vicki Banks.
Marguerite is preceded in death by her loving husband, Glen Houston; her parents, Florence and Frank Drabing; and her brothers and sisters, Ethelyn Irene, Glenn Worth, Albert Ivan, Doris Pearl and Ferne Lucille.
She is survived by her nieces, Linda Banks of Erie, Colo. and Vicki Fuhrer and her husband Keith of Newman Grove; her sister-in-law, Lourene Miller and husband Dewey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nieces, Marilyn "Orrell" Cosentino of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan Kuhen and husband, John, of Heartwell, Neb. and Betty Meek and husband, Clinton, of Peyton, Colo.; nephews, John Orrell and wife, Maxine, of Ogallala, Neb., Robert Banks, of Erie, Colo. and John Banks of Olathe, Kan. as well as many friends.
Marguerite was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Imperial, and in 2002 was recognized as a 75-year member.
She was an avid reader and was involved with Imperial Public Library since 1950. She began as an assistant librarian earning 50 cents an hour and also drove the bookmobile around Chase County. She served on the Library Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the library's first expansion. She was on the State of Nebraska Library Association and was awarded the 1977 Distinguished Trustees Award.
She was also active in the Chase County Historical Society, served as a Precinct Election Judge, was on the Chase County Community Hospital Board and on the cemetery committee.
She enjoyed playing bridge throughout her life and in younger years enjoyed square dancing with her husband Glen. She also loved spending time with her family.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Imperial with Pastor Murray Schmechel.
Organist was Mrs. Marcia Bauerle and singers were Irvin and Garneta Bauerle.
Casketbearers were members of the VFW Post #4688, Imperial.
Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial.

Thelma Mills
Thelma Mills, 80, of Greeley, Colo., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado Inpatient Unit.
She was born Jan. 11, 1925, on the family farm near Imperial, Neb. to Bertha A. (Hall) and Edward Klein, during a raging blizzard.
While growing up, her parents owned and operated several general stores in Champion, Lamar and Venango, Neb.
With a diploma from Chase County High School in Imperial in 1943, she headed to Colorado Women's College in Denver, Colo. to earn her associate's degree. She returned to Imperial to work in the bank striking up a relationship with high school acquaintance turned dashing young sailor, Ed Mills.
She married Ed on June 8, 1947 in Imperial, Neb. and began her new adventure as a Navy wife by promptly moving to Newfoundland. The transfers were many and often frequent with their children born along the way in Charleston, S.C., Imperial, Neb., Oakland, Calif. and Hastings, Neb.
Their travels included two years in Japan and over 30 moves around the United States in their 56 years together.
The family settled in the Eaton/Greeley area after retirement, wintered in southern Texas and continued to log many miles of wonderful travels, both domestic and foreign.
The last two years, she had been a resident of Garden Square at Westlake.
Ed passed away on Aug. 10, 2003 and they are once again reunited, no doubt playing a game of gin and planning their next adventure.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ed Mills.
She is survived by sons, Scott Mills and wife, Jill, of Buffalo, Wyo. and Kevin Mills of Eaton, Colo.; daughters, Pamela Mills and husband, Bill Ott, of Longmont, Colo. and Terri Burke of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, Arlyn Klein and wife, Kathleen, of Evans, Colo. and grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Mills, Krista and Ryan Burke and Garret and Mesa Mills.
Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Allnutt Eaton Chapel in Eaton, Colo. with burial at the Eaton cemetery.
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4 at Allnutt Eaton Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Garden Square at Westlake in care of Allnutt Macy Chapel, 702 13th St., Greeley, Colo. 80631.
