Margaret Trautman
Margaret Marie Trautman was born Nov. 29, 1918 in Eskridge, Kan., the daughter of the late Carl Smith and Marie Kurtenbach Smith.
Margaret was the fourth of seven children. Margaret moved with her family as an infant to Imperial, she attended Imperial Grade School graduating in 1938 from Imperial High School.
Imperial was Margaret's lifetime home.
Margaret was baptized and was a confirmed lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Imperial. She was an active member of the St. Patrick's Altar Society.
Margaret was also very active in the community with volunteer service at the Imperial Community Center, helping with various activities at the Imperial Manor, along with being a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Margaret's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, gardening and baking for family and friends. Margaret was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and Denver Bronco football fan.
On June 14, 1939 Margaret married Harry Trautman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial.
Margaret and Harry were engaged in the grocery business for several years before becoming owners of Trautman's Drive Inn for approximately a quarter of a century from the early 1950's to the mid 1970's.
Margaret continued working at the Drive Inn when she sold it to Dr. Burns Bowers, continuing her employment when it was later sold to Dick and Peggy Smith.
Margaret was active in local business long before becoming co-owner of Trautman's Drive Inn. As a young adult she worked in Norman & Peterson Appliances, Adams-Einspahr Drug and later Adams Drug.
Margaret retired in October 1989 after serving over 50 years in the Imperial community.
She passed away Friday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2004 at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Neb. She was 85 years of age.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Harry Trautman, parents Carl and Marie Smith, stepfather Elmer Archer, sister Minnie Conarty, brother Vernon Smith, sisters Erma Jones and Helen Claney.
Survivors include two sisters Nonie Hamel of Imperial and Trudy Nelson of McCook; brother-in-law Jack Claney of Imperial; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Rosary was said Monday evening, Sept. 20, 2004, at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial was Tuesday morning, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. with Father Greg Pawloski of St. Patrick's Catholic Church officiating.
Music was provided by organist Marcy Nesbitt and soloist Ron Moritz.
Casketbearers were Jody Bopp, Wayne Jones, Max McGarr, Jack Claney, Russ Mann and Gary Nelson.
Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial.
Memorials have been established to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Imperial Community Center.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd Pflum Jr.
Lloyd Arthur Plfum., Jr. was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Lincoln, Neb., to Lloyd Sr. and Burneta Pflum.
He started his life in Wauneta, Neb. and later moved to Enders with his family.
Growing up he attended Chase County High School where he was active in sports and education and graduated in 1955.
Lloyd brought his family to Imperial, Neb. and farming soon became his passion and lifelong career.
On March 17, 1957, he married his lifetime friend and wife, Donna (Roedel) Pflum. From this union four children were born: Kaye Lynn, Kim Nanette, Charles Robert and Kelly Ann.
Lloyd's priority was his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A person could always be ready for a warm smile and small talk with "Pflummer" down at the parts store or coffee shop. Many have heard or been a part of one of his numerous stories or jokes.
He enjoyed the community and had an awesome love of his family.
Always a sports enthusiast, Lloyd was a sideline cheerleader for Chase County and a devout Husker and Raider fan.
Lloyd was reunited with his father, mother, son and other family and friends, in the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, when he passed away at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
He looks down on us and smiles as he awaits the time when we can once more feel his warmth and love. Truly a great man has left this earth, but his memories will always remain in our hearts.
Though his life was cut short, many say goodbye to a man who has touched their lives in so many ways. The Lord will now be able to enjoy his conversation and laughter.
He was very proud of his motorcycle and recently at the 2004 First Annual Chase County Fair motorcycle show his bike won first place which he was truly proud of.
Preceding him in death were his parents and son Charles Robert.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Imperial, Neb.; daughter Kaye Eskew and husband Greg, Imperial, Neb.; daughter Kim West and husband Garth, Stratton, Neb.; daughter Kelly Pflum, Lakewood, Colo.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister Jacqua Schmick and husband Jerry, Loveland, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday), Sept. 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. MST at the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial with Pastor Bob Frank officiating.
Music was provided by J. Gordon Christensen and Pat McNair.
Casketbearers were Don Bernhardt, Steve Leibbrandt, Jack Welch, Don Banks, Ernie Heskett and Jeff Pribbeno.
Honorary casketbearers were Pete Dillan, Joe Cruise, Mike Weatherly, Arlyn Cox, Bob Kluender, Larry Hand, Carl Woofter and Dr. Jeff Kasselman as well as grandsons.
A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donna Marie Spady
Donna Marie Spady was born in Imperial, Neb. on Aug. 5, 1921, to Harry and Emma (Brady) Mathews. She was the second of three children. She attended grade school in Champion, Neb. and later attended high school in Imperial, Neb.
She married Harold Spady on March 19, 1939, at Chappell, Neb., and to this union, five children were born.
They lived west of Imperial in the early years of their marriage, then moved to the South Divide where they lived until 1948. They purchased a farm northwest of Imperial where they lived until Harold passed away in 1996.
Donna then sold the farm and moved into Imperial where she lived until her death on Sept. 8, 2004, at the age of 83.
Donna enjoyed swimming at Champion Lake in her early childhood years with friends and family. She was a wonderful cook and looked forward to family gatherings.
In the early 1960s they moved to town for a brief period of time to manage the Texaco Gas Station & Cafe where she was able to put her cooking skills to use.
Harold and Donna enjoyed square dancing in the early years of their marriage at various farms in the area. They enjoyed camping with the Over the Hillers after Harold retired.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards with friends. Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting which she put to good use making afghans for her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family.
Donna's faith in God was very important to her. Although physical limitations in recent years made it almost impossible for her to attend church, she continued to find her daily Bible reading a source of much strength and comfort.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents and one brother, Calvin.
Survivors include sons Garry and wife Sharon of Imperial; daughter Dawanna Greeley and husband Gary of Imperial; Dwight of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Lennie and wife Teri of Imperial; and Kyle and wife Dana of Enders; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister Theone Draper of Imperial; one brother-in-law Kenny Spady and wife Virginia of Ogallala and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Imperial, Neb. with Pastor Murray Schmechel officiating.
Music was by The Haven Quartet.
Escorts were Bradley Spady, Troy Spady, Jeremy Spady, Adam Spady, Jonathan Spady, Stephanie Spady, Kerry Weiss, Karl Spady, Jarratt Spady, Matthew Spady, Nicholas Spady, Jennifer Johnson, Emily Spady, Jami Greeley and Shawn Spady.
Interment was at Mount Hope cemetery, Imperial.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Egle
Memorial services for Robert Egle will be Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at the Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet, Neb. at 11 a.m. CST.
A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers.

Jorene Olstyn
Jorene Olstyn, sister of Don Newman of Imperial, died unexpectedly on Aug. 25, 2004, at her home in Roseville, Mich.
Ms. Olstyn had visited Imperial in June, along with another sister Kay Shepherd of Warren, Mich.
She worked for St. John's Hospital in Detroit and was 56 year old.
Besides her brother Don Newman and his wife Melody and her sister Kay Shepherd, she is survived by her son Clayton, his wife Renee and two granddaughters Madison and Paige; nieces Lori Carlson, Jill Wojcik, Rebecca Sabo and their families, all of Michigan, Jennifer Morgan and family of Richmond, Va.; and one nephew Nicholas Newman of Norfolk, Neb.

Robert 'Bob' Olson
Robert Albin "Bob" Olson, 83, of Oshkosh died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 at the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.
He was born on March 22, 1921 on the family farm southeast of Oshkosh on the South Table to Albin and Lillian (Ballinger) Olson.
He attended District 13 school and grew to manhood on the south table area except for a couple of years in Turloch, Calif., during the height of the depression.
His family returned to live on the Charley Olson farm and he attended and graduated from Garden County High School.
In October of 1942, he entered the United States Army Air Force where he served with the air transport command, Alaskan wing. He was honorably discharged in November of 1945 at the rank of Sergeant.
During the war, Bob and his dad bought the Archie Wynes ranch south of Oshkosh. He lived there for a short period of time.
On Jan. 5, 1947, he married Audrey R. Waltman in Broadwater. They made their home at the Cy Kemplin farm northeast of Oshkosh.
In December of 1948, their son Jim was born during the period of the '49 blizzard. That same year they purchased the Fred Mohler ranch from Charles Hayd.
In 1951, a daughter, Barbara Jean was born. They continued to reside north of Lewellen for the next 42 years. They pursued their love of raising cattle and horses on the edge of the Sandhills.
As their health failed they moved to Oshkosh and later to the Riverview Assisted Living in Lewellen and finally to the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh where he entered into rest surrounded by his friends and family.
For many years he served on the Garden County Fairboard and the Ash Hollow cemetery board. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, VFW Post #5379 and the Shaw Jepson Legion Post.
He particularly enjoyed his grandchildren and spent a great deal of time with them teaching them his love of life and the great joys of nature around them.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Jim and wife Carol of Oshkosh; daughter, Barbara Jean and husband Harlow Hill of Wauneta; grandchildren, Lora Joann and husband Shawn Lake of Morrill, Jana Kay and husband Trevor Schwartz of Minatare, Hadley Wade Hill of Imperial, Jennifer Ann and husband Moe Moffat of Oshkosh, Peter Robert Olson and family of Oshkosh; great grandchildren, Bailee and Beau Lake and Kelsee Moffat; sister, Norma and husband Pat McGinley of Oshkosh; brother-in-law, Dale and wife June Waltman of Oshkosh, Gilbert and wife Doris Waltman of Lebanon, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Dennis Waltman; niece Peggy Waltman; and grandson, Wesley Hill.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Coffey officiating.
Interment was in the Ash Hollow cemetery near Lewellen with military honors.
Pallbearers were Troy Carlson, Larry Peterson, Dennis Allen, Pat Thelander, Mike Waltman and Pete McGinley.
Honorary pallbearers were Pete Olson, Hadley Hill, Harlow Hill, Moe Moffat, Shawn Lake, Trevor Schwartz, and all of Bob's long-time friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the church and to the Garden County Health Services Foundation.
Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh was in charge of arrangements.

Billy Baker
Billy DeWayne Baker came into this world at his Aunt Grace and Uncle Ray Clausen's home at Ragan, Neb., on Jan. 30, 1934, to Clyde and Pearl Baker.
Later Pearl and the children moved to Hamlet, Neb., where they attended school
In May of 1937, Pearl married Ben Myers and the family moved to a farm southwest of Hamlet where Betty, his older sister, and Bill attended country school.
Added to this union were Alvina in 1936 and Wesley in 1944. All the children later went to the Palisade school where they continued their education.
On July 14, 1954, Bill married Gloria Jean Singley at Champion, Neb. Their first home together was Art and Grace Jones' north of Benkelman, Neb. From there they moved to Kansas, Colorado and back to Wauneta, Neb., in 1964 where they would remain until their deaths.
Bill was a transport truck driver for most of his life. He retired from the Wauneta Co-op in 2000.
He passed away Monday eve-ning, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, Neb. He was 70 years of age.
Bill had many hobbies including hunting, fishing and camping. He especially loved to assist his son, Will, in farming.
Survivors include: mother, Pearl Myers of Imperial; daughter Laura Lee Carfield of Haigler; son William Baker and wife, Vicki, of Wauneta; son Randy Baker and wife, Karen, of Wauneta; daughter Teresa and husband, Alan Taylor, of Venango, Neb.; son Daniel Baker and wife, Darcy, of DeWitt, Neb.; 13 grandchildren: Tim and Tom Steinbeck; Christopher Jussel; Chris, Jeremy and Justin Baker, Katrina, DeWayne, Billy and Sean Baker; Jessica Taylor; and Logan Baker; seven great grandchildren: Kristen, Logan and Jacob Jussel; Kortney and Seth Steinbeck; Ethan Owens; and Gabriella Baker; sisters: Betty and husband, Mark Weston, of Henry, Neb.; Alvina and husband, Dallis Breese, of Wauneta; nieces and nephews: David Weston, Debra Boro, Sue Breese, Jerry Spencer, George, Jean and Leslie Myers, Betty, Larry and Judy Myers and Brenda, Robert and Angie Singley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Myers; wife Gloria; brother Wesley Myers; two sisters-in-law, Linda Myers and Mary Singley and a grandson, Danny Jo Jussel.
Funeral services were held Friday morning, Aug. 27, 2004, at 10 a.m. MDT at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta with Pastor Judy Dye officiating.
Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Lucille McBride, and soloist, Mr. Kenneth Smith. Music selection was "Life's Railroad to Heaven"-Patsy Cline.
Casketbearers were Laura Lee Carfield, William Baker, Randy Baker, Ron Clausen, Teresa Taylor, Daniel Baker, Don Clausen, Mark Weston and Dallis Breese.
Honorary casketbearers were all the grandsons.
Interment was at Riverside cemetery, Wauneta, Neb., with Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta in charge of arrangements.
